34 of the Best Modern Opening Sequences

moviewizguy

CAGiversary!
Ok. I've put together what I think are the best modern opening titles in a movie. Enjoy the clips below:
-Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nb8Wn2ZM48Y
-Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcyxSXRTwzI
-Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irkED1-Ep1s
-Part 4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpIgFI0MVXA
-Part 5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYMV645RZnA
-Part 6: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDkCoJu6o_k
-Part 7: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCKRYIj0dEw
-Part 8: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJyDOjtV5O0
-Part 9: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9XB53Ux5lk
Also, I had a little law trouble with Fox because I used some of their movies' credits and they wouldn't allow it so "Fight Club," "Daredevil," 'Thank You For Smoking," "Alien 4," and "The Day After Tomorrow" are off the list (unfortunately). Oh, and I didn't include any 007 movies or Hitchcock films because they'll probably fill up the whole list.

I watched a few of these and they suck out loud. Unless you have Eurotrip and Idiocracy on there you fail.

How could you not have Casino Royale? How?
No Shoot'em'Up?! Seriously, less then first 5 minutes and he crams a carrot down a guy's throat.
I think he's talking about opening titles sequences (ya know, the intro text, "Blah Blah Pictures Presents a Film by Blah Blah, Starring Blah Blah and Blah Blah - BLAH: The Movie"), not opening scenes.
I think he's talking about opening titles sequences (ya know, the intro text, "Blah Blah Pictures Presents a Film by Blah Blah, Starring Blah Blah and Blah Blah - BLAH: The Movie"), not opening scenes.
Even so, it's still great. Short, awesome, and to the point.

A book and washrag is nice and all....

But a goddamn carrot through the back of the head?! C'mon! He even shot an umbilical cord and the back of a guy's ponytail all in the first 5 minutes or so!

Even though a lot of those are kinda lame, I'm pretty sure the OP doesn't mean intro sequences but rather the "title scenes" --- ya know the opening credits of some movies where there is no plot taking place, just showing the cast and crew names w/ some kind of nifty animation happening.

Sorry? These are just the movies I have on DVD and obviously I have never seen every movie created and it's my opinion so...I really didn't like Planet Terror but I was thinking about it.

What? This topic is all levels and types of fail. Also, what are you actually talking about Opening Scenes or Title Scenes?

You should change the thread title to "36 Best Title scenes of my own collection of 50 movies."

You cant make a top 10 list (I know its 36) without having seen a large majority of all the content you are listing and taking ALL of it into account. Other wise its just makes no logical sense. And absolutely cant make one based solely on what movies you have on dvd. If you own all crappy movies of course your list is going to suck. Also please dont use the "its my opinion" defense to cover up your fail.

Also where the fuck is smoking aces at? (this is version 2 most people know version 1 with common's play your cards right over top of it instead of this music. I actually prefer this one.)

Geez, Soodmeg, no need to be so harsh. It's just a list of personal faves from his collection. Nothing wrong with that. He never claimed his list to be the end-all be-all; he very specifically said "I've put together what I think are the best modern opening titles," so this is simply an opinion piece. It is his opinion; that's not a cheap defense, it's a simple fact.

I was simply pointing out an issue of semantics, the difference between "opening scenes" and "opening titles," not attacking the guy, or his knowledge on any subject. I don't see the need to attack the dude.
I really didn't like Planet Terror but I was thinking about it.
Well, if you don't like the entire rest of Planet Terror (or Grindhouse for that matter), that's fine, that's your opinion. That doesn't bother me at all. But if you don't like this, then there is something seriously, seriously wrong with you:

Are you kidding me? I barely said anything to the guy. I asked him to clarify what he was talking about opening or title and said he should change his thread title to 34 of my own favorite openings. Then informed him of what he did wrong in making this thread. Like only selecting from movies he has owned....and unless he is rich as hell he couldnt possible own enough to make a legit list.

Jesus fucking Christ.

You guys are so hypocritical sometimes.

Oh, wow. We got some rude people on here. I have a collection of over 500 movies. You should be thankful (or not) that I actually took my time to do this because it was my first time trying to put movie clips on youtube since I've never done it in my life which took me a whole stressful three days. At least a thank you would be nice. And I limited the genre into modern movies with some oldies and I already did say it was my opinion because I simply can't make "the best" list if it weren't for my opinion.

If it weren't for my opinion and Fox legal trouble, Psycho, Fight Club, any 007 films, Se7en (which I do have on DVD, in fact, but it can already be seen on youtube so I didn't even bother putting it on the list for that reason), and several others. It was meant for entertainment.

Well, I actually loved Grindhosue (both parts). The credits never really...I don't know, interest me that much. Oh, gosh, it's a girl stripping with grainy filter. How....brilliant.

You barely said anything? It sounded a lot like bashing on my opinion, which is kinda weird. I wanted to make a list because I saw another video that compiled the best openings. If you don't like the list, why won't YOU do it? I obviously wanted to because I wanted to make MY list and I took 3 whole days to do it! And the openings and titles debate, it's clearly nothing different about these two words. It's an opening. It's a title. It's an opening credits. It's an opening title. It doesn't matter!

If I had to search through every movie made to see which are actually THE BEST openings ever made, I would never have done this project! You do it if you hate my list so much.
I don't feel like watching all of those, mind typing out a list of what they all are?
If yuo actually click on one of the links, it'll redirect you to the youtube page where you can see the list but if I must:

-Part 1:
*11:14
*12 Monkeys
*The Number 23

-Part 2:
*Blue Velvet
*Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
*Final Destination 3
*The Grudge (remake)

-Part 3:
*Death at a Funeral
*Dirty Dancing
*Elf
*Fantastic Four (extended cut)
*The Family Stone

-Part 4:
*Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
*Poseidon
*Pulse (remake)

-Part 5:
*The Kingdom
*Lucky # Slevin
*Mission Impossible
*Over the Hedge
*Panic Room

-Part 6:
*Lola Rennt (Run Lola Run)
*Sahara
*Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed

-Part 7:
*She's the Man
*Shooter
*Signs
*Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
*Spider-Man

-Part 8:
*Superman Returns
*The New World
*The Night Listener
*Vacancy

-Part 9:
*Willard
*Zathura

And if you guys are wondering, one of my top favorites on the list is "Vacancy." Watch that one in particular if you don't have the time to watch the whole thing. I think it's amazing.
You got to be kidding me?
Why should I be thankful that you made a list? I never asked you to do it. You did it on your own. But seriously? Are you that offened?

Also, welcome to cheapassgamer toughen up a little. Yes I barely said anything to you. Sorry I didnt bust a load watching stuff that you claim to be the 34 best things of all time when its clearly not. You posted it which makes it free to be liked or disliked, if you cant handle someone not liking what you did then dont post anything.

But. I really didnt say anything that should send you into a tiff. I think your list is completely lame (as did others) and I simply said that your whole thread title is wrong for what the content of the thread is.

And since you asked twice I wont make my own list because I actually work in Televison and Film. So until a client ask me to then you wont see me doing it.

I've been in CAG for quite some time and I have never met trolls until today. I guess I'm pretty lucky staying away from people like you, right?

Thanks for splitting it into 34 different clips so even if I cared I'd have to open 34 different youtube things instead of just 1 movie with all the clips in it.

Make an edit and incorporate "Hollywood drivel" into the title, plz.

Guys, guys please take it easy. He worked really really really hard on this for us. He slaved for 3 days straight just for us because he cares.

Also...hes a little sensitive so only say good things about it if you dont he will cry like a bitch and call you a troll. And you know how much we care about his opinion.

Well see now. You just made 3 friends today!

Oddly, my favorite of that bunch happens to be the shittiest movie: Final Destination 3. Truly excellent intro credits, I must admit.

Oh, my God. Are you kidding me? I did it because there was a hurricane that came to our state. In fact, it was called Hurricane Ike. They cancelled school for the whole week. What else should I do? Oh, I'll just try something new because I've never learned to put movie clips online in my entire life until now and yes, I spent 3 whole days (morning to night) to even try to figure the whole thing out.

And you think you're just so cool because you're bashing on me, right? You can't accept peoples' opninions, which is sad because you would like the world to revolve around you. In fact, I'm responding in a more mature way than you, which shows how incredibly childish and rude you are and that makes me sensitive? I guess so! It's not my fault you're an a-hole. You clearly have nothing else to say than to bash me so why bother posting here?

I don't agree with some of your choices, but nice effort. When you do these things, realize that movie tastes vary widely, especially among self-appointed movie buffs. You'll almost always get pompous responses, so you should do it for yourself more than random people on the internet.

Also, Soodmeg, Smoking Aces is an utter piece of shit. You get your own epic fail for thinking it belongs on any great list.

What, screw you Synergy. Your a Red Sox fan...I wouldnt expect you to know something good from a wet fart!

Smoking Aces was decent...I never said it was the greatest movie ever. But I think the intro to the movie is pretty damn good. I thought we were just talking about movie openings not entire movies themselves?

And movieguy or whatever. Quit being such a bitch. All I said to you was, this topic is titled wrong, opening titles and opening scenes are different and you should change it. I also find it funny that you say, I'm the one that cant accept peoples opinions. Seriously? I said I didnt like your list and you havent stopped crying about it yet. Why dont you take some of your own advice and just accpect that I dont like your list and move on.

You have to be related to The Mana Knight with the ability to over react like that.

007 isn't a Fox property. It's MGM/Sony.

Best opening scene in a movie goes to "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". I remember watching the movie for the first time in grade school and all the kids drooling for the candy on the TV screen LOL!

Best movie period goes to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

It has my favorite moral of a movie, ever: "Don't forget what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he ever wanted. He lived happily ever after."

Actually, I pick some of the movie titles because of creativity and originality and I knew I would get angry responses. I've done this several times (well, one other time, actually) so I wasn't surprised by the responses I have been getting.

I know. If 007 films were on there, it would fill up the entire list. They are famous for their opening credits so yeah.

Now that you guys have completely butchered my list (except for a few), what were some titles on the list that you guys liked? I mean, I'm curious because I put those films on there for a reason (to get known) because no one ever watch films like "The New World," "Lola Rennt," and "Vacancy."

Vacancy was kind of boring.
