Somewhat of a reputable site, found it on Pricegrabber.
I found MS Brand XBOX360 VGA Cable & Component Cable at SEARS for $5.87 Each. Should i buy it or not?
The VGA if you have an hdtv that takes vga would be a HELL YES. It makes everything (movies and games) look SO ridiculously good on hdtv. And besides, vga is the only way you could possibly get 1080p on hdtv without hdmi. I wouldn't bother with the components anymore... unless you got a core system and it didn't come with the components. Still, go for the vga.

I got a spare set for that price.

When I go to Atlanta for long periods of time, I take along my 360. I don't have a HDTV at home, so I take along the HDMI cable and the spare component set. It was an outstanding deal for me.

Seconding this -- the VGA cable is awesome. I use it and I prefer it over the component cable. The colors weren't as saturated at first -- looked a little washed out -- but the picture itself seemed sharper, and after I adjusted my TV a bit the colors look fine.

To clarify what was said above: I'm pretty sure games will still output at 1080p over component, but you won't get DVDs and HD-DVDs to upscale/display at 1080p, only at 480i/1080i.

Also, FWIW GameStop is selling its house brand of multi-console component cables for $15 new, and I found them pretty good -- I use it for my Wii and PS2.

With component cables, you'll get games and HD-DVDs at 1080p, but 480p max on DVDs.

I got the official VGA cables and I honestly preferred component over it. The colors look faded, even after adjusting some settings, whereas the colors over component were nice and vibrant. Though it sucks that component can't upscale regular DVDs past 480p.

Back on topic, $9.99 is a great price.

same here component was better for me than VGA

Just a buyer beware:

If that pic is from their merchandise, they are NOT first party. There are knock-off's out there that come in identical packaging as official MS brand, with a weird font.

I got a set of VGA's that came in that same packaging, and looked legit, but lacked the hologram decal on the cable itself, which was made from a cheaper plastic.

um.. what?
the max resolution supported is 720p.
wiki it
FYI, i actually use VGA and its hooked up to my monitor. it does indeed make games look great, but component is a better choice if you have an HDTV.

Okay, just ignore my post then. That pic you posted, if you look closely at the packaging, is a knock-off. :D

Um... that would be incorrect. I think that Microsoft knows what they're talking about when it comes to pc stuff.

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360vgahdcable/

If you check your dashboard settings, you can jack the vga resolution up to 19xx X 13xx or whatever that max resolution is now. I'm running my 360 on a Sharp Aquos 46" LCD tv and it looks incredible versus the components. All regular dvd movies are up-converted to 1080p as well, versus the 480p limitation that the components have.

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360componenthdcable/

And for that matter, if you have a desktop pc and have a vga connection, do you run your monitor in a max resolution of 640x480? That wiki article is talking about that concept of VGA, not that actual VGA connection (which includes ALL those resolutions on that chart in the wiki article), but last time I checked this very pc I'm typing on is running through vga at 1600 x 1200 (that's like 1200p) so I supposed that vga is MUCH more capable than just maxing out at 720p?

You might use vga to play through your computer monitor, but I don't know of more than a handful of computer monitors that have component inputs. In my case, my tv has a great vga in on top of the multiple component ins so I exploit that to play games and watch dvds.

"Please delete my double post. Post from the OP is fine!!!" is what I should have written. I realized later that we could delete our own posts from within the "Go Advanced" edit function and when I came back to do so I saw the OP, rightly so, thought I was dissing his post when I wasn't. I had written it poorly so it came off as a criticism of him which was not my intent in the least. Again, my apologies to the OP.

cocheseUGA, on the other hand, has a feeble insistence on typing untruths with no sane logic or reasoning behind these incomprehensible actions. If you get your kicks from that, so be it. Please enjoy the fantasy world in which you most obviously live.

:D

Sorry for the mix up.

P.S. I left this post so cocheseUGA doesn't continue lying and say things like he had corrected me or any other cockamamie imaginings his decrepit mind may conjure up.

This is what the cables themselves can do:

S-video: 480i games, HD DVD and DVD
Component: 1080p games, 1080i HD DVD and 480p DVDs
VGA: 1080p games, 1080p HD DVD and 1080p DVDs (upscaled from 480p)
HDMI: 1080p games, 1080p HD DVD and 1080p DVDs (again, upscaled)

Don't listen to anyone else who tells you differently. What you'll see on your monitor/TV is up to what the TV will accept, but that's what the cables will do.

Thank you CocheseUGA, a man of brains that knows his technology. Like my sig says right?

So I bought what are the cables that are out of the box?
I bought the premium system when it came out before all these elites and arcade packs...
please delete
wtf? you mean delete your double post?
seriously why are CAGs shitting on eachothers posts so much lately? This deal is meant for anyone who bought a core system or maybe the new Arcade bundle and wants to upgrade.

the TRU price is on 3rd party brand, not OEM. Which has one important factor, the 3rd party cables usually don't support 480p, so people who have SDTVs or EDTVs are kinda screwed.
EDIT: okay, i'd consider this resolved, thanx for the clarification Alex.

Hmm....after reading around...sounds like I need to update my component cables and get me the VGA ones. I want to output 1080p on my TV...

No, he posted completely false information that I subsequently corrected.

Thanks sandrokstar! I ordered pelican copnent cables for about the same price and they didn't work, these are OEM, and that's even better thanks!
I ordered them on Gaminglagoon and free shipping USPS Parcel.
OEM FTW!

You didn't correct anything, never have, and never will. Jeez, I deleted my post before you had even posted. Why are you such an ass? If you had "corrected" anything why did you not quote my misinformation, like I have seen you do many times before, to have some proof for your claim??? Because there was no misinformation. I just wanted to delete a double post. You are definitely the most abrasive and temperamental person on the CAG forums. Lighten up and leave people the hell alone.

You sure do live up to your name with your wannabe investigative skills and cop-like countenance.

Get a life.

Still your best and only bud,

Alex

Yes, I meant delete my double post. After reading it I can see why you thought what you did. Sorry for the mix up. Your post was perfectly fine!

No one here is abrasive. I was just trying to correct the misinformation given in this thread about what the xbox360 component cables can do compared to the vga cable. But clearly truth is sometimes a kick to the mouth so people have to edit or change their posts to defend themselves or hide their misinformation. Way to show immaturity and start calling people names.

I was not addressing you. I specifically quote the person who was talking smack to me having quoted him specifically. So why are you responding in his place?

By the way, I had the conversation about component vs VGA a long time ago in this thread: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118740&page=9

Which is from February of 2007! Scroll down to post #162 and #166 and look at the dates of when they were written and last edited. That should lay to rest all of the horse manure about me not knowing what I am talking about eventhough I did not want to do anything other than delete a double post and made no comment pertaining to the difference between VGA and component here.

Sincerely,

Alex

*carefully dodges the drama as he enters the thread*

Thanks for the deal, OP, my roommate has wanted component cables since we just got a new tv, so this will make a good xmas gift.

You wonder why half of CAG has him on their ignore lists. The only drama is what he creates. You, and everyone else saw that he had incorrect information posted, which is why I had to post myself.

He wants to think he's witty or can edit posts and not have any one else see what he's posted, let him. He had the wrong info up until well after I posted the info from xbox.com. But, whatever makes him think he's special.
