any recommendations on a passive 3d projector? do they exist?
My understanding is that to do passive 3D with projectors is to use 2 synchronized projectors with polarizing lenses and something to split the signal streams. I just started looking into doing the same.

I don't think passive ones exist but my epson has awesome 3d and the glasses are nearly the same size/weight as the passive ones.
I strongly agree! My Epson projector creates a phenominal 3D image - much better than I get in theatres with passive lenses. I cannot argue with a 120" wide 3D image either! If you go projector, use a real screen or a screen paint like Screen Goo to get the best quality image. Shooting the projector on a white wall will work, but is far from the best presentation.

For three years I've had an Epson 3D projector shot onto a plain white wall without a screen or any fancy projector paint and I can't imagine the picture quality being any better, just my $.02.  I do have the white portion of the wall framed with some wood I painted black, though, so I assume that helps.

This projector talk raises my spirits O:)  Thanks. I don't have a place currently to put one but it's nice to know that it sounds like it will be a feature in the foreseeable future.

I felt exactly the same way...until I painted the wall with Screen Goo. I used a Sony projector for about 5 years and then the first year of my Epson projector on a plain white wall and was very happy. While the Epson projector did a great job on the white wall, the image really 'pops' after being painted. Next time you are at a movie theatre look at a screen when they are not running an image on it, which may be tough since they seem to run ads constantly. You will see that the screen is not white and the contrast helps create a much richer color depth. Once you use a surface made to project on you will have a tough time going back - especially for 3D. All of this said, a projector is a great 3D experience whether you use a dedicated projecting surface or not.

i got a LG mini beam 550

https://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-PH550-Projector-Bluetooth/dp/B019O6MVJI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1484091419&sr=8-4&keywords=lg+minibeam+projector

its pretty sweet projector for the price. in summer when sun sets i can cover my shed side for a movie while having a fire going.

led bulb so last pretty much the life of the unit. 550 lumens works perfect for me for the use.
That's cheaper than even the lowest end 3-D TVs cost.

it really is a fun toy. i use it more then i thought i would since its simple and fast to setup to use on a whims notice. just grab it, usb stick and my little blue tooth speaker 5 minutes and im outside watching shows. at nights the colors really pop. i was worried the 550 lumens would not be enough but i can get a screen size around 12ft tall bye 19ft long. and still very watchable. if i had a bigger wall i sure i could go bigger.

ya it played all sofar with no problems but have not tried a 3d movie off the stick yet.

it also has a tv turner in it so with a small antenna you can watch football anywhere. the battery last for 1hr give or take. but can plug in outlet.

Yup just got that email too. Free shipping threshold is $25 FYI
If you select "Join the Club" found in top right corner of page and enter your email address you are sent a one time use code that gets you 30% off and free shipping. This makes the $9.99 movies $6.99 each with free shipping. If you already have a Fox Connect account you will need to use a different address to get the code - like a throw away email service - but you can use the code on an existing account. The email came almost instantly so check your junk mail or promotions folder if you don't get it right away. I got Book Of Life 3D for $6.99 shipped and my daughter is pretty excited!

Now if I could just round up a smoking deal on Star Wars: The Force Awakens 3D...

Vr Headsets are 3D anyone know if you can watch 3d blu rays on a ps vr or htc vive? if so hope for the future with better screens in them!
I tried to watch on my Galaxy S7 and it sucks. It's like fisheyed 3-D and is really hard to trick your brain into not seeing double most of the time. All of the games and documentary shorts made specifically for the format look great though. I know it's lower end VR but i'd assume i'd be much the same moving up the line. Until something is specifically authored for VR i wouldn't bother.

Amazon has The Stewardesses for $15.99. While it's only about $3.50 off its previous price, this is a special interest Blu-Ray that's more likely to go out of print than be found much cheaper than this.

Made in the early 70s, soon after the Production Code, which put all sorts of limitations of what could be shown in films, was lifted. Not a great film, but it's got some pretty hardcore fans, and it's almost guaranteed to be different from anything else in your 3-D collection.

It Came From Outer Space, a 1950s sci-fi 3-D film, which has a hyperlink on the Stewardesses page, is also a good deal at $9.29 (as of this moment).

They could be doing what they did with The Force Awakens. The US 3D listing didn't show up until months after the standard 2D home release.
Yeah, but with Force Awakens, nowhere had it in 3D at all until the collector's edition release later last year. Other regions are getting Rogue One right off the bat. That's what kind of leads me to believe we might be getting screwed on this one.

Zavvi has the Region Free 3D set containing both Avatar and Titanic for about $15 US. Using the code HVDAY12 during checkout drops the price so the net cost with shipping stays just under $15. Just make sure not to change regions to US if the site asks or you won't see the deal.
It looks like this code has ended, but there is a new code: WELCOME. This code may only be available for new customers so you may need to setup a new account to get the deal. If you don't see the deal or get an error that the item is not available change the region to UK (click flag in the upper right of the window).

Amazon has pricematched too (none of my area Best Buy's have it in stock) but won't ship until Feb 28. I went ahead and ordered, Movie itself is meh but can't beat that price for what i hear is good 3d

I saw Rogue One in IMAX 3D as well as 2D (for Dolby Atmos) and the 3D effects in it weren't stunning. I wouldn't be that worried about trying to get it in 3D on release.

Everyone is different, but I actually quite enjoyed Rogue One in 3D. It didn't have much 'in your face' 3D, but was much more atmospheric. I felt it was similar to much of Prometheus where the 3D was used a lot to give you a sense of depth as opposed to having things jump out of the screen at you. I would prefer a 3D version for home and am hoping they will make it available in the US so I don't have to pay the premium to import it.

For me it's the principle of the matter—if it was released in 3D in the theater, that's how I want to own it on Blu-ray. Just like how I don't want to buy a TV show that orginally aired in HD on DVD

Force Awakens 3D Bluray may be the best technical 3D film behind Avatar or Gravity. It's ridiculous how natural all the added depth is and it brings tremendous value to all the epic action and set pieces. Rogue has quite a few as well that should stand out if it was done well in the theatre.

Yes, the battle at the climax was helped immeasurably by 3-D, as did the scenes featuring long drops, such as the scene where they physically obtain the Death Star plans, and scenes on top of the base the plans were kept.

Awesome, if the April 4th release rumor is true then hopefully a steelbook edition is announced shortly. Zavvi is sold out at this point and I assumed there would have been an announcement but hopefully it all goes live soon.

From what I've read, BB, Target, and WM will be the only US retailers you can get the 3-D version, and each has its own perks. BB is steelbook, Target has inserts featuring the cast members that can be swapped out, giving you a choice on who is featured on its cover, and an extra supplemental disc, while WM has a foldout cover featuring the robot, and two plastic discs that are part of a larger collection.

Minions 3-D is $11.99 on Amazon right now. Glad I didn't get the 2-D only version offered over BF period. For those who don't have them, the previous two Despicable Mes are $14.99.

Picked up Minions 3D at Best Buy yesterday, still had a lenticular slip which was nice

Went to Target at lunch and they had Suicide Squad 3D for $20.99 and Star Wars The Force Awakens 3D for $24.49

SW: TFA is off the chain on my LG OLED. I remember seeing this in the theater in IMAX 3D and the 3D quality was meh. The disc on a high end OLED display has AMAZING depth and detail.
