Aw well.  Maybe I'll get Mega Man Dr. Wily's Revenge anyway.  Look at that hideous cover art.  "Americans can't understand Japan.  I know what will get them to buy this game: terrible cover art."

Never mind.  Booted it up and regretted purchase within seconds.  If this is not the worst Mega Man game in history, I can't imagine what would be worse.

Mega Man X is awesome.  Mega Man Dr. Wily's Revenge is even worse than I remember.

If you've been fortunate enough to never had played the old DOS version consider yourself lucky:

I actually like Dr. Wily's Revenge, but Mega Man 5 for Game Boy/Super Game Boy  is the best one on the system. Wish that would hit Virtual Console. For the 3DS, less NES game and more Game Boy/Game Boy Color games. Game Boy Advance games wouldn't hurt, either.

Oh yeah!! I did play that, but I was too young to realize it was awful. Can't believe how excited I was. There used to be these steps inside my grade school when I went there, and I remember jumping down them pretending I was Mega Man, super excited to get back home and play it. Probably played 10 minutes and switched to something decent instead. :p

The new deals for today:

101 Penguin Pets 3D - $2.99 - 40% Off - Ends 1/13

Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge - $2.00 - 50% Off - Ends 12/18

Monster Shooter - $4.00 - 43% Off - Permanent Price Drop

Just checked the Wii U eShop. Apparently, they're having a 2 day 2 dollar 2 games thread 2day, LOL!

Today and Tomorrow, 2 games will be on sale for 2 dollars each. Today, its Mega Man X on Wii U for 2 bucks, and Mega Man Dr Wily's Revenge or whatever on 3DS for 2 bucks.

I don't know if these two will be on sale tomorrow, or if 2 different games will take their place.

2 Bucks for Mega Man X! Tell your friends!
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/301518-wii-u-eshop-deals-1216-mega-man-x-2-until-1218-edge-rush-199-each/

Just so you know, there's a thread just for Wii U eShop deals.

I was gonna be like, wellll, do u like mega manz??

But then I was like, nah, why bother? JUST SAY YES. In my opinion, X makes classic Mega Man seem kinda lame. BECAUSE X IZ SO AWZUM
See, I thought I recalled that but I was never really into Mega Man and there's as many bad games as good all with vague similar names so better to ask.

Yeah, that's fair enough. I guess even I'm not really sure. I know Mega Man 2, 3 and 5 are good. Don't even know about 4. 6-8? No idea. 9 and 10 seem good.

I can vouch for X, X2 and X3, though. The Zero games on DS are great, too, and my favorite. But X has a special place in my heart.

Still think Dr. Wily's Revenge is terrible. :)

Can anyone who has played Starship Damrey help me? I'm trying to unlock the second "profile".

I put the ring on the right desk (confirmed by the scene in the ending), yet I still didn't unlock that profile. I'm kind of confused now.

Great game. There's just something magical about the original MM X, though. (For me anyway, but that's nostalgia for ya.)
So you've become one of my new favorite posters over the past few days... I believe the "randomly burst into laughter over Jesse_Dylan's posts" count is at 4 or 5 right about now. :bouncy:

Dang, I bought my kids a Wii U for Xmas and it's still in the box in the back of my closet. I need to pull it out and get it setup anyway. Mega Man X for $2 is great motivation. That game is awesome.

Looking at the 3DS eshop games online, it looks like I may justify my purchase of a 3DS just through some of the old classics I no longer have but would love to play again (or for the first time).  Lots of old Zelda and Mario stuff to play through.

Definitely pre set up wii U before wrapping it up. I hate it when I get a new system/new game and have to sit through the setup/update.

Whelp. I'm counting down the days until I'm showered with eShop credit. In the meantime, I'm compiling my must-buy list:

Crimson Shroud

SteamWorld Dig

Cave Story

LoZ: Link's Awakening

Starship Damrey

Attack of the Friday Monsters!

Am I missing any other eShop must-have exclusives?

I think if you guys are gonna get Phoenix, you should just support it and buy it to show Capcom Americans like it, or we'll never get one again. THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS. *throws wicker furniture and kicks a plastic cereal bowl*

It's probably not going to go on sale anyway. It's already $10 cheaper than it would have been if they'd had a physical release. What do you people want from me! Just pretend it's a retail game with a $10 discount that will probably never get any more discounts.
Except it's not already $10 cheaper than a retail game if you actually want the complete thing. It's $7 extra for all the DLC. Even if you don't count the seemingly useless costume pack, it's still $6 for the bonus case.

Also, it seems that we can't have nice things regardless. No matter how many people buy this game, Capcom still refuses to localize Ace Attorney Investigations 2 and is instead forcing the fans to do it themselves.

So yeah, I originally thought that I should just buy the game at launch to support it, but I really don't want to spend $36/$37 on a digital game. Especially when the company selling it clearly doesn't care about Ace Attorney fans anyway. I did order one $50 eShop card from Best Buy for 20% off, but I'm still going to try to stick it out and wait for a sale. I'm fairly confident that there will eventually be one, after seeing some of the more recent Capcom eShop sales (like the Resident Evil one).

If Capcom really wanted to make the game appealing and try to make up for not having a physical copy or localizing AAI2, then they should have made the price for the base game $20. That would have been an instant buy for me.

I really want to replay the entire series first anyway to refresh my memory on all of the details of the story and characters. It's been so long since I've played through an Ace Attorney game (almost four years for Investigations and something like five and a half years for Apollo Justice).

Aw, thanks! I was wondering if maybe I've gotten annoying. I have been thinking, though, that I need to break the addiction and stop spending vast amounts of time commenting about every little thing. Bad habits that began over the sales.

If he had it for the PSP, he could've at least tried it out before plucking down $2 on it to see what he thought of it.
Very true!

Probably. How about Pushmo and Crashmo? Probably still missing some. Darn good list, though.

I wanted to find some creative way to reply to things in context rather than just at the bottom, but I'm not talented enough! Oh well.

I can tell you're bitter, and, this is rude of me to say, but you're being a little irrational about this. Capcom would be taking it in the pants if they released a DS game at this point (re: AAI 2). The bonus case is just that, a bonus case. I'm not sure why you're mad you have to buy it if you want it. The fact is, if they had released this game at retail, it would have been $39.99 instead of $29.99. I'd personally be pretty happy if digital games were always $10 cheaper than their retail releases, but I know that's not the world we live in. We also don't live in a world where companies are going to make bad business decisions to please fans. Sometimes they won't even make good or neutral decisions to please us!

I'll say no more, and I do apologize for being rude, but I point my finger at you, I say "HOLD IT!", and I raise an objection. I think this is a cop out, and if we want to send a message to Capcom, we only have two messages we can send: 1) "we don't care about Japanese games" by not buying it, or 2) "we will buy Japanese games!" by buying it.

It is too complicated to try to work out a way to send them any more complicated messages than that; it's a sad binary, either buy or do not buy, that gives us the choice of only two responses.

I understand your reasons somewhat, and to each their own, but I'd rather feel happy and hopeful than bitter and sad. I spend enough time feeling bitter and sad over Dragon Quest. :)

I'm replaying all the previous games first too, by the way, despite having bought the new one day one and being really really tempted to play it!

Best regards!

Definitely.

Glad to see Crimson Shroud and Friday Monsters on there though!

It is hard not to be bitter. How often do you hear a company say thanks to strong fan support we are localizing x title? Ys maybe? Class of Heroes (unfortunately)? Ys is probably because of the strong relationship between xseed and falcom (as in im sure there are other projects that they may expect to sell more but they have worked with them many times before so that is a factor).

Even games that are popular among jrpg fans don't always get localized and we hear some bullshit about maybe we will localize x game if people buy y - that is a cop out and shows how little they think of us. And I for one do not support digital and purposefully wait for games, even the ones I want, to go on sale before buying them.

And another thing is someone buying used or doing a gameshare is doing so much more harm than someone who waits for a sale to buy digital. Someone buying a game digitally on sale is supporting the game/dev/whatever just like buying a new copy on black friday is.

And lastly the messages we can send to companies are not binary (buy/pass) and we have social media to thank for that. Obviously sales are hands down the most important but they check their facebook/twitter/message boards too.

Sorry bored at work.

I have a code for Starfox 64 3D if anyone wants to trade with me for an eShop code so I can hop on these sales! Of course, I'm open to other trades! Thanks :D

I know I sounded bitter. Maybe I am a little, but my main point is that I'd rather wait for a sale than buy the game at full price. It's not really just a binary choice. The third option is "buy the game eventually but wait for sale first."

Regarding the release of a DS game at this point, I disagree with you. Maybe a retail release would have been "taking it in the pants," but they easily could have released it as DSiWare, either as a full game or on an episodic basis. That way, anyone with a 3DS would have had access to it via the eShop and Nintendo could have advertised it on the eShop together with Dual Destinies. The problem is that they were too lazy to translate it. Instead, some dedicated fans are putting in the time and effort to translate it for free and when it's finally done, people are going to have to pirate the game to actually play it.

Also, I consider the DLC case to be part of the game. It's not like it's content that they made later on. They knew all along that it was going to be released as DLC shortly after the full game, so the idea that the game is $10 less than a retail release is pretty much an illusion. In my eyes, it's only $4 less. Episode 5 for the original DS game was also a bonus, but it still came on the cartridge and you didn't have to pay extra money for it.

Anyway, I'm done complaining now. I guess the bottom line is that I disagree with your assessment that the game probably won't go on sale and I'd like to try and wait for that to happen. I am a CAG after all. And I've read that it was already a best seller on the eShop, so Capcom should get the idea that people in the U.S. want these games with or without my immediate support.

what exactly are attack of the friday monsters, and Starship Damrey? I thought Friday monsters was an rpg of sort but the description is vague and the screenshots dont show much. Starship just looks like a survival horror game or something

I bought Crimson shroud a while back. Only other one im considering is maybe liberation maiden but its not really that big of a sale, iw as hoping for 50% off

Attack of the Friday Monsters is more of an adventure game from what I understand.

Well... more like a relaxing novel.  It tells a wonderful story and was a great experience playing it.  Gameplay wise, it is probably not satisfying for most gamers.  The card game is shallow, there is not much to do other than follow allow the story they want to tell you but let me tell you, it is a a fun and unique experience to chill back and play through.  It is only a few bucks, please get it! you may end up hating it, but if there is a possibility of it connecting with you, you would hate yourself for passing on it.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Rockman X Over went the opposite way (strong fan reaction kept it away).

Lack of account system, digital games going bye-bye when the 3DS dies, blah blah blah endlessly rehashed complaints.

Hey guys, just got my 3DS and this is my first foray into th eshop so I had a question, are these sale prices good enough to be considered "must gets"?  Interested in tthe Guild series games but think I might be spoiled by some of the insane psn discounts that pop up - any info on the frequency and scope of deals in the Nintendo eShop would be dandy

Crimson Shroud & Liberation Maiden have been on sale once before, I don't think the other Guild games have. Past frequency & scope isn't a very good barometer here since Nintendo's only recently started picking up with the sales, but I doubt they'd go on sale for much less, so if you have the money and you want 'em, get 'em. The $2 Mega Man, on the other hand, is obviously cheap enough to be a must-get.

Ok cool, I had no idea about the workings of the Nintendo 3DS store (I've gotten one or 2 things for my Wii U in its eshop but don't really keep up with it) so I think I'll probably just get them since I don't have many games on the system right now and these seem like pretty fair prices. Thanks for the response.

Oh my gosh, I don't know if I can reply to everything, but I am OCD and hate leaving anything without a reply if it's addressed to me!

Don't be sorry. Don't be bored either. You're totally right, of course, that buying used is about like not buying at all, as it contributes little, if anything, towards the game. On the other hand, buying on sale not only supports the game; it also supports sales in general, which we like. It's that just those first week sales are so important (or maybe first month sales).

Sorry for opening up a can of worms and then kind of half-assing my replies. It's all fair enough, and it's fine if we end up disagreeing, too. The whole thing is really sad. Companies have products that engage our emotions, and they rely on this to sell them to us, but then when they refuse for business reasons to release the products, are emotions are still engaged and we're left hanging.

I think a lot about Xseed (I love them) and how they did Retro Game Challenge but wouldn't touch Game Center CX 2. Meanwhile, Game Center CX 3 is coming out now, and I doubt anyone will bring that over. It's horribly depressing since the first was one of my favorite games of all time, and the fan translation of #2 seems like it's just never going to finish. Ugh. Anyway, I have a hard time being mad at Xseed about any of it, though. These are businesses, and it's hard to fault them for running like a business. Especially with Xseed, when they do take risks and work pretty hard to do what they can. Legend of Heroes: Tales in the Sky is an example of that. The first did not sell that well but has done okay long-term (though I doubt they made much on it). I think they're hoping the Steam release will help. They are actually a bit crazy, business-wise, to be doing chapter 2, but I hope to heck it sells so we can have chapter 3 as well.

Well... more like a relaxing novel.
Great description of Friday Monsters! It reminds me of a mix of a jRPG and a 90s PC adventure game, however, then subtract the RPG combat/stats/leveling (for the most part) and also subtract the inventory, puzzle solving, and diaglogue trees of the adventure games. Odd that what remains is so extremely compelling. It is definitely a visual novel, or "relaxing novel," and can be likened to the first PSP Corpse Party game that Xseed released here if anyone is familiar with that, althoguh this is of course not a horror game...

Picked up Mega Man: Dr Wilys Revenge, good deal at $2.
If you like punishment, frustration and sadness, you will get a lot of it for only $2! (Sorry, I'll stop harping about it now.)

Well I guess the art is fine judging by the art book but I don't like chibi character models at all. Its what turned me off from FF4 for the DS and I love that game.
(re: Bravely Default art style) Just pretend the characters all have deformities. I have to do this with real-life people all the time. I'm doing it with you right now. Doesn't mean I love you any less. Maybe more.

What ruined FF4 DS for me was how rudimentary and awfulllllll the 3D was. Gosh I couldn't stand the graphics of those DS RPGs. I know I can't preach at you much for disliking the character art when I universally disliked such a wide swath for simply being ugly. I'm so thankful the 3DS can handle 3D since that's what companies insist on using. DS could have had so many great-looking 2D RPGs, or with pre-rendered backgrounds, whatever, but nooo, they had to do hideous real-time 3D.

I'm probably going to jump on Mega Man. I bought Mega Man 3 NES a few weeks back, kinda regret it because it's tough.
Well you're going to regret Dr. Wily's Revenge too, then. It's not even a GOOD Mega Man game (where as MM3 is).

Wiley's Revenge was a decent first attempt at a Mega Man game on the original GB. It holds up enough in the areas that count - it controls well and the large sprites still look good, almost identical to their NES counterparts. The only complaint there is that the size of the sprites make the action kinda cramped at times, but that's true of all the GB Mega Man games. I would say that MM:WR is a better and more playable game than Mega Man 1 on the NES, since the latter suffers from some design flaws that make it unnecessarily difficult.

I grew up on 8-bit Mega Man so I'll probably get Wiley's Revenge for the nostalgia and cheap factor. And to those lamenting the difficulty... you don't get Mega Man games in spite of their difficulty, you play them because of their difficulty. For $2, it's an easy impulse buy, but I agree with someone who said previously that MM5 on the GB is truly where it's at. I still have my original cartridge (CIB, I'm pretty sure) from when I was about 8 years old and it's still an amazing game.

Am I missing any other eShop must-have exclusives?
According to everyone everywhere: Pushmo.

I need confirmation, though. While it looks ok, I'm having a really hard time pulling the $7 trigger on the game. Even while watching an absolutely glowing Youtube review telling me why I NEED to buy it, I keep thinking how much I don't care. If there was ever a game that sorely needed a demo, it's Pushmo.

Simply put, if you enjoy puzzle games then you need this in your life. If you don't like puzzle games, (light)platforming, or have no heart - then perhaps this game isn't for you.

Kind of treating this as a general 3DS thread to ask a question: other forums seem to have a negative opinion about Paper Mario Sticker Star. Is it just that bad or were the changes too jarring for people (I can see no experience or team members being a bummer).

This would be a present for someone who enjoyed the Wii Paper Mario but, not having played either, I'm not sure what changes, if any, there were between the two. And if liking one would translate to the other.

The back up plan is Animal Crossing since he already has Zelda but doesn't want to play the new Pokemon games. Unless there's just a must have game that I'm missing.

Pushmo is excellent and probably the first I'd recommend of all eshop games. I caught it on sale, but would have gladly paid full price.
