I know a few people have asked about the framerate on Bit.Trip Saga, but I was just wondering if the eshop version is better performance-wise than the cartridge version, which has been widely reviewed as having annoying performance issues, especially in Runner.

I have a preference for physical...but I've been eying this one since playing Runner 2 on my ps3, and if the digital version performs better, I'll probably bite for $5.

I have plenty of digital games on mine too so I am a bit worried. Nintendo says they are shipping it back to me right now so I'm hoping all my games are still on it.

Dear goodness, Zero Escape is the series name. Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors is the first game, Virtue's Last Reward is the second game.

From what I've heard, if it's an easy fix you'll get your original console back. If it's a hard fix they will do a system transfer so you won't lose any games, but your saves and possibly your Streetpass data may be gone.

wonder what happens to the games that CAN NOT be Transfer do they give you credit to rebuy them

Seems odd, because when I did my own system transfer, I certainly didn't lose any save data or streetpass data... The only thing I'd wonder is if a Nintendo-done system transfer counts as one of the five. (It shouldn't!)

Anyway, sure hope you get your 3DS back with everything in tact. I bet you will.

should I buy Bit.Trip? would rather play it on the Vita but oh well
I ended up biting, and it's totally worth it. The 3D isn't that great and doesn't add that much, though, and it does seem to tax the game a bit and cause some slowdown...but it plays great in 2D so far. And since it's not out on vita, it's totally worth the $4.99 for the 3DS version (unless you'd rather have the wii version, which has extra content and added difficulty levels...which might be a plus since these games are pretty tough).

I figured I'd answer my own question for anyone else wondering. I grabbed it from the eshop, and the digital version has the same performance issues I've seen described in reviews of the physical.

Most of it did play fine in 2D, but even in 2D, level 3 of Bit.Trip Runner has slowdown/stutter in a lot (if not most of) its stages...as in enough to occasionally trip you up and be frustrating. The music moves smoothly, just not the video, so it's not game breaking, and it's still easy enough to get through the stuttering parts (which seem to happen in the same areas) by just trying to see what's ahead and timing your moves to the music. But, yes, the issues are still there.

I wish Vita had this :( would be sooo awesome on an OLED!

guess I should get this.. but I would hate playing it on the 3DS hardware those buttons and controls ><

The old, tired argument about needing the second analog stick.
eh noap. haha that's not what I meant.
The Vita's Dpad and buttons just feel more comfortable/better built than those on the 3DS.
just a preference owning both (both are great in their own right)

guess I should be getting it (Bit.Trip.Saga) i mean

I'm really enjoying how my new XL feels.  People kept talking about the build quality being lower, but it seems to me to be higher-quality all around, including the d-pad and controls.  I did not like the original 3DS much when it came to its hardware, but I really like my XL.

Animal Crossing wore out the B button on my 3DS, so I'm waiting for a sale on an XL to show up so I can upgrade and finally start some of these eShop games I've been neglecting because they put important stuff like jump on the B button that makes them unplayable for now.

The thing about the Vita's OLED is that 2D games pop and look great on that screen, so the Bit.Trip games would look great on that.

got to be careful with online games some of them will not transfer to a new system. I know i have 7 games i was told i would not be able to transfer to a new system.

any thoughts on Mutant Mudds? :D
It's kind of frustratingly hard, but it's worth it anyway just because it's such a neat design. It's really a lot of fun. Just... kind of frustratingly hard sometimes. (Some people will love that, I know.) I don't remember what I paid for it. It must have been on sale previously for me to buy it.

Wow you must really hammer your buttons! Or just had a bad B button? And you're right about the OLED--even retro games look so nice on it. Wonder if the new Vita's LCD will compare.

What the heck were they? I have an embarrassing amount of games, and they all transferred except that stupid golf game (which I'd already deleted anyway).

Well, I think what's most important is that you hold on to the old 3ds until you get the new one since there's no proper account system. All games should be transferable.

As I said, it's thanks to Animal Crossing, where I mashed B a lot to speed up text, exit menus, and run around. That game can be brutal on the B button since so much is tied to it.

Agreed. I enjoyed playing it and sometimes running into a wall at times as I figured out a good way to approach some of the later levels.

As a heads up, the Wii U version is also on sale for $6.99 if anybody here would be interested in that. I'm not sure if it has any additional content over the 3DS version.

I'm always using the R button to speed up text. I hope my R button doesn't poop out. That's not as vital as a B button, though, at least.

For AC, I've switched to using the touch screen for most of those functions to spare my B button. It's great for speeding up text because you can just tap anywhere. I also don't run on grass, so that limits B wear too.

My R button crapped out while I was playing Zelda OoT 3D because of all my "Z" R-targetting. Sent it in and it came back like new.

Mutant Mudds is also coming to the Vita soon (although I don't think a release date has been given yet) if anyone prefers multiplatform games on the other platform. I doubt I'll double-dip, but I enjoyed it enough on 3DS. And yes, it gets pretty damned hard. If you didn't grow up playing unforgiving platformers, then you might not have the patience for this one. I grew up on 8-bit Mega Man, so I felt right at home.

I grew up getting pissed off at unforgiving platformers, and to this day, I still get pissed off at unforgiving platformers.  :)

The 3D in Mutant Mudds is pretty neat.  I rarely, if ever, both with 3D, but yeah, kind of neat on that one.

I can imagine it would look pretty great on Vita, as we discussed above, at least on the OLED version.  It will inevitably be $3 for PS+ at some point, and I will double-dip.  Why do I do that?  Don't get it.  I wonder how many cheap ass gamers are also hoarders and double-dippers.  I am all of the above.  Thankfully only a digital-hoarder these days at least.

i know crystal adventure on the DSIWERE side does not transfer

I know puzzler world 2013 does not transfer

not sure on the rest call nintendo up and they should give you a list

Wow, weird.  I wonder what the deal is with that.  I hope they get an account system set up soon.  Really prefer how Sony does it, even though their download list makes me want to punch myself in the crotch.

Actually, some of the games (in particular the pong-like ones) have touch screen controls that work really well and are more precise. Others use buttons (Runner pretty much has the same d-pad/button layout as the ps3 version of Runner 2).

I, too, like my 3DS XL, though. The layout/placement is pretty solid. The buttons are a little clicky, which maybe got on my nerves at first, but now I'm used to it...and it's almost a help in things like Bit.Trip Runner, where the extra tactile sensation/noise almost seems to subconsciously help a little in keeping time with your button presses.

Mutant Mudds is almost always on a shortlist of must-have eshop games (along with pushmo, etc.). You guys have successfully dissuaded me, though, lol. Not a masochist.

OP title says $4.99. Haven't been on the E-Shop to know which one's correct, but thought you should know. Thanks for the great threads ;)

The hardest part about Mutant Mudds for me was the time limits. There would be a few jumps you'd have to time absolutely perfectly, and if you miss them more than 2-3 times you might run out of time on some of the later levels. I agree with Frisky, though, it's more trial and error than anything.

It's annoying how far back you go when you die, too.

Then again, same thing happened to me in Paper Mario Sticker Star last night.  Spend 40 minutes exploring a level thoroughly just to die right before getting to the end.  Not much annoys me or ticks me off more than that.  Really neat game in so many ways yet when compared to Paper Mario on the N64/Gamecube...

Do they end after like 6 pm PST or something? Bit.Trip Saga is $14.99. I just redeemed my SMT IV + Fire Emblem Awakening code for it.

I think I'll just pick up the Castlevanias on the Virtual Console then.

Have you played Castlevania (NES) and Castlevania: The Adventure (GB) before? (Assuming you mean them since they're the only ones on the 3DS VC) They're not exactly the best of the series. Just a warning in case you haven't played them! If you like them, then no worries. Don't want you to miss out on the deal and then buy games you don't like besides. As long as you don't buy Mirror of Fate! :p

I wish they'd get the Japanese version of Castlevania III on the 3DS eshop. Oh man. The US version would be okay too, but the Japanese version has such better music (opposite of Castlevania II, where it's the US version with the superior music technology).

(Sorry, get jabbery about Castlevania.)
