I've been living off my 8gb card pretty well. Have Pokemon X, A Link Between Worlds, 3D Land, Tomodachi Life, DK Country, Mario Golf, and Dual Destinies along with 10~eShop/DSiware games. I have about 2,000 blocks left too. Upgrading to a 16gb soon though, so hopefully that helps me ride this out.
Just go to a 32GB when you do, it's only going to be a couple dollars more.

I just started ALBW on Hero, its a kinda tough. It get any easier soon?

Thanks for the advice, folks! Sounds like I'm getting 3D Land.

Are any parts of it tough without the 3D?
My eyes don't work quite right (if you're curious, it's called non-binocular vision) and I generally can't see 3D. Not in the theater, and not on the 3DS - it's just a blurry mess. There are a few isometric puzzles designed with 3D in mind, and there are a few levels where I can imagine the added sense of depth would have made them easier to navigate, but I made it through the entire game without 3D and didn't have any major issues.

Can you see 3D in real life at least? Like if a Lion is charging at you will you know which way to dodge?

Oddly enough I have 20/20 vision in my right eye, I can see quite well. Thankfully I've never had to test it out on dodging a lion but I don't think it would impair me ;)

In real life, it's only a problem with reflexes + depth perception, such as hitting a baseball, catching a football, etc. Driving at night in the rain also sucks because it's much harder to judge distances in such poor lighting. I wish I had known why I was so awful at sports and the like when I was younger, it would have made things like gym class a lot better.

Hopefully the future of technology isn't in glasses-free 3D (or 3D at all for that matter) because I will be Shaq-Fu'd.

Does anybody know if the digital version of Fire Emblem: Awakening gives Club Nintendo coins? It doesn't show it in the eligible products list on Club Nintendo but it seems odd considering Ocarina of Time is older and gave coins. I want to grab it when it's on sale next week but if it doesn't I'd rather grab Mario 3D Land before its sale ends and then buy a physical copy of FE.

Any games you purchase on the eShop give coins, I believe.

Nintendo would be VERY smart to do a "register a system, get some eShop credit" sort of promotion right now.

I have no reason to believe that they will, to be clear, but it would be very smart.

I got SMB3 because, it didn't feel like a complete (currency conversion based) rip-off...and it was actually cheaper than in the US :V

40 MXN in case you're wondering; that'd about 0.50 USD cheaper than the US price.

And, that's the only game I got because 3D Land costs 400 MXN...which is a lot more than 20 USD.

Seriously, 3D Land costs 10x of what SMB3 does in MXN, in USD, it's only about 6x more. I got a big enough backlog until the next first party sale so, I'll be ok :V

Picked up Punchout and SMB3. I almost fell for their trap of discounting SMB2 along with those two gems and bought it too, but then I remembered I fucking hate that shitty game.

Dude! SMB2 was so misunderstood. At the time it was like the the Van Gogh of video games. I'm a fan and look forward to playing through it again.

And you can't get mad at me because go Yanks!

Yeah, it's not even an SMB game other than how it was reskinned. Really is a classic and wound up influencing the current games and how those characters play now.

I thought so as well but Super Mario Bros 3 didn't give a registration survey. It's in my to-do history but it never gave coins. When I checked the eligible games list it wasn't on there. That's when I decided to check if Fire Emblem was there but only the physical version shows as giving coins.

All the other first party games show both physical and digital version giving coins so I dunno. I'm assuming it's just an oversight since even third party games give coins but it'd be nice to know for sure.

Virtual Console games don't give a registration survey (3D classic games do though). You should get a post-play survey for SMB3, but it's normal that you didn't get a registration survey for it. Dunno about the Fire Emblem thing.

Could not agree more. SMB2 is awful. Just...awful. As a kid I couldn't exactly articulate why, but even then I knew something was off. It's between that and Mario Sunshine as my least favorite in the entire franchise. Which is crazy since both are followed by arguably the best entries. SMB3 is still unbelievably amazing - glad to finally have it back in portable form.

When I was about 7 years old, I had rented SMB2 from the local video store. I made it up to the first fight w/ Birdo and had NO IDEA you could stand on the eggs she spits out or use them as a weapon. It just... made no sense that a projectile like that wouldn't hurt you to come in contact with it - not at 7 anyway.

I kept dying and must have went back to it a few times before I finally figured it out. I remember I got so frustrated I even asked my mom for help!

It's interesting how much SMB2 has influenced the franchise given that it wasn't originally a Mario game and hasn't aged incredibly well. I'm just surprised they put it on sale while it was still available for free through Club Nintendo.

Actually, I remember hearing that Doki Doki Panic WAS originally intended to be a Mario game. That plan was thrown out the window for some reason and the game was retooled, then when they had their doubts about Lost Levels in America they came back to that game.

Let's hope the new 3DS supports XC spec so we can have 64GB+ cards.
Yeah; I'm actually running out of space on my 32GB card. I suppose if worse comes to worst I can delete all of the demos and videos I downloaded - I have every demo available and every video that wasn't part of some exclusive giveaway.

Damn it, you're right, I can't get mad.

Influence is one thing..being fun to play is another. Thankfully, like Breakfuss said, they more than made up for it with SMB3. I hope anyone here isn't saying 2 > 3.

Mom's all WTF do I know about video games, how do you even hold this thing?
Oh, she *knows* how to hold it, trust me.

Thanks for the heads up. Picked up a new micro SD for my camera and using that 16gb stick for my 3ds.

I don't know if this is the right thread, but it should be close enough.

When do the awards for Club Nintendo change?  The current prizes state "Through Sept. 7th", but it's already the 8th.  Any idea when they actually get around to updating the coin rewards?

This is the thread you're looking for:

Short answer: Club Nintendo rewards are not always updated on the day they are supposed to be.

You guys were killing me! I had to switch to digest mode!

It seems like they usually update the day after they're supposed to... like in the middle of the day. So I generally just plan to check two days after they're supposed to be updated. And then feel annoyed if it's stuff I already have or sad if it's stuff I don't want.

Let's hope the new 3DS supports XC spec so we can have 64GB+ cards.
I don't think it will. :( I think their main beef is that Microsoft has a patent on NTFS or XC or someone does or something or other, so they have to stick with FAT32. Or something. Which is why the 64GB cards do work, if you format them for FAT32. (I know, we have heard some people say they cause problems, but some people have problems even with 32GB and smaller cards, so who knows.)

Today only: SanDisk 32GB Micro SD $15.99 / regular SD $14.99 free shipping for you prime members:
I just bought one a week ago. :( Now it's cheaper. It got lost in the mail, oddly enough, and it looks like that was actually a good thing in this case. If it's delivered today, I will get it free (they already refunded me); if it's truly lost, I will order another today at this price.

SMB2 was a cultural phenomenon here. I think I was about 6 or 7 years old myself. It was the first NES game I bought. I remember taking money out of my savings account. A friend of mine got it for his birthday, and we beat the entire game during his party. He started crying and sent everyone home. I never managed to beat it myself, and frankly, I never questioned the fact that it was bizarrely different from Super Mario Bros.

Even parents knew something was up, though. I distinctly remember being at Target with my mom, and she and another mom began talking about it. "It doesn't even have your score at the top of the screen."

How would you like to be the guy who directed the Doki Doki Panic version and then had your game entirely reskinned into a Mario game? Bit of a shame. For what it's worth, though, I think SMB2 is great and has aged well. It is definitely the strangest Mario game, though, and the actual Super Mario Bros 2 (what we call "The Lost Levels") is probably the second strangest Mario game in history.

Hopefully the future of technology isn't in glasses-free 3D (or 3D at all for that matter) because I will be Shaq-Fu'd.
If it's any consolation, I hate 3D movies in the theater, have no 3D technology at home, and play my 3DS with the slider off 99% of the time. I guess the New 3DS might change that, but I dno. It just doesn't do anything for me. I wish the 3DS had just been a 2D system at twice the resolution instead, but I know they thought it was going to be a life-changing gimmick and stuff. (Dear games industry: it is about the games, as has been said for years and years.)

Ugh, Lost Levels...  I hated that game. lol

To this day, it remains the only Mario game that I have never beaten.  Every once in a while, when I was growing up, I would start it up and try to go through it.  Yeah, it never happened.

You could probably do it now with VC save states.

When I had endless free time as a kid, I plowed through it on Mario All-Stars. At the age of 9 or 10, that cart alone was amazing to see the NES games redone in 16-bit, and the Lost Levels were amazing. I don't have the patience for that game anymore because it loves to say "fuck You!" every chance it gets, between the poison mushrooms and the warp pipes that send you BACKWARDS in the level progression.

I still can't believe my 10 year old self beat it. It was well ahead of it's time... in addition to fucking with your entire sense of what to expect from a game (like the aforementioned things), it breaks the 4th wall as much as an 8-bit game could at the end.

Remember in SMB1 how lots of the Bowser castles have a specific path you have to go through, and it *dings* when you do them correctly? Lost Levels does that to a whole new degree, with one exception. The final castle LOOKS like that's what you're supposed to do, but really it's just the same platforms repeated over and over for about 30 repetitions. There's no wrong way to go through it, you just have to run through it was quickly as possible. Miyamoto was feeling especially sadistic when he made that game.
