If you want portable fighting games I suggest you get them on a vita. From my personal experience the fighting games on 3ds have no online community. But if you just want to play solo then SF4 is worth the price just don't play with 3d on.

Man for the longest time I was voting with my wallet, by not buying anything from the eShop. Nintendo's online systems are terrible compared to their competition. Them finally unifying the handheld and Wii U eShop and these sales finally made me crack. I still wish they linked purchases to the account and not the system. Also, I wish they had cross-buy like PSN has seeing as I picked up the Wii U Mighty Switchforce games.

Hopefully Nintendo will continue to make baby steps.

Edit:Also finally picked up Liberation Maiden.

I also agree that SF is much better on a console.

Although if you are looking for a casual experience, the 3DS can be fun to mess around with.

The reason I sold my physical copy was because I didn't want to wear down my dpad/circle pad and the game is also a little outdated compared to the console version.

I have it and coincidentally the person who I share a house with happened to have it, we usually play it over the 360 version for whatever reason and the Street Pass stuff is goodness. For 10 bucks, definitely worth it. The graphics arent great, but solid for the 3DS.

Also, I had a question.

Someone mentioned the Cave Story Club Nintendo Coin amount in Eshop compared to the others, now how do you collect on those? I downloaded Galaxy Force 2 on Xmas Day and it says its worth 5, so when/how does that become redeemable? I am realllyyy considering getting Cave Story should I get this confusion cleared up,

You login to the Club Nintendo site, sign-up if you don't already have a CN account, link it to the 3DS, and do the surveys for the games you've purchased to get the coins, which usually takes a day or so to show up.

I had taken these steps previous to posting here, the survery never showed up as a "to do" and doesnt show up as a missed opportunity for coins. Maybe because Cave Story has been awhile the coins will show up sooner? I'm only 20 coins away from gold! lol

What does "awhile" mean? You bought it during this sale or a long time ago? The eShop downtime might have messed with Club Nintendo survey for more recent stuff, but it should appear eventually since everything you can purchase on the eShop offers coins as far as I've seen.

I bought Galaxy Force 2 a little under a week ago, I meant to say maybe because Cave Story has been on the Eshop for awhile it would not face the same problem. Yeah, the servers for the shop have definitely been put through its paces and them some this last week, thought about that being a factor.

Thanks for responding Tanuki.

SF IV anyone? How is it for 3DS?
Have to agree with what option said. I also found it a bit distracting that the backgrounds are just still images and that the NPCs never move. Fighting games are much better suited to consoles IMO.
I'm not feeling how the backgrounds are still images, either. Like pieces of paper, cardboard cut-outs.

However, I think the Vita would run the hell out of SSFIV. The same way Vita does Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed(which is missing a lot in the 3DS version).

Well, considering that AE has been discounted a lot (especially on PC) and that Ultra is coming out summertime next year... It all just makes buying SF 3DS for $10 (for a previous iteration you cant upgrade) not worth it at all.

Even if you have something like Intel Integrated Graphics 3000, you can still run the game fine (not highest settings of course) and have a better experience IMO.
Yeah but does the PC version let you unlock figurines and create a squad out of them, which go on to battle other players' squads?!

;)

Just joshing with ya! We can all get along!

I don't believe there are demos. If you type 'demo' into the eShop, you'll find all the demos. Every single demo is not listed under the Demo area on the home screen.

Sorry a little off topic but... does anyone know when that $30 Fire Emblem/SMT4 eshop promotional credit expires? I still have it but don't know what to spend it on. I'd rather just save it for later.

I'm surprised it didn't already expire. If you've already redeemed it I doubt it'll ever expire.

I thought that expired months ago? Not sure, new 3DS owner.

Yes the promotion expired months ago, but I had entered the code into the ehop back then and the $30 credit is still active. Does that credit expire? I was not sure since its promotional credit and usually these things have a use by date.

If you didn't enter the code into the system then it was supposed to expire but not once you got the credit on the system.

Debating on Steamworld and Mudds... Played both on PC for a few minutes and liked them, but I just realized I have Mudds on my iOS devices since it was free awhile back. I'm not expecting a super long game, but is it worth buying on sale for the 3DS or is it super short and I should just enjoy it on iOS?

Wow, so I ended up buying Shin Megami Tensei IV and Soul Hackers. I have been playing SMT IV today and it is amazing, I love it. I was wondering if Attack of Friday Monsters is worth the price even when it's not on sale? I don't have the funds for it right now but if it's good enough I would pick it up later. It's only like 2 dollars more.

I think Attack of the Friday Monsters is worth the full price. However, it is a very unique experience that not everyone will enjoy.  If you are looking for gameplay, you won't find it here. If you like the art style and what you see from the trailer interest you (setting/story), then go for it.

Thanks for the reply. I think next time I get happen to get another nintendo eshop card I will probably end up getting that game.

Ummm...any opinions on Swords and Soldiers, Ikachan and NightSky? Anyone? Anyone?
Swords and Soldiers is a very decent RTS/Tower Defense game. If you're into the genre, you can't go wrong.

NightSky is an okay platformer with physics as you move a ball through a beautiful world of a maze. It's made by the same person who created Knytt Underground.

I haven't played Ikachan, but I hear it's a very short game. For the price, you can do worse.

But it's also on just about every other platform and the 3DS version has some terrible reviews. For example the PC version is $2.49 on Steam right now and should run on just about anything.

If you type 'demo' into the eShop, you'll find all the demos. Every single demo is not listed under the Demo area on the home screen.
It certainly shows more demos, but I don't think it shows "all" of them. For instance: typing demo in search doesn't show the Monster Hunter 3 demo, just a tutorial video for it. I really wish they had a master browse option on the eShop.

Who else knew that EDGE was released the day after Christmas for the 3DS for $1.99? Probably no one, since the eShop was all but dead that day...

Can anyone recommend a RPG for someone who generally doesn't play or care for RPG's? After finishing Find Mii, I found I wanted to give a real one a shot.

Ummm...any opinions on Swords and Soldiers????
http://www.nintendolife.com/reviews/eshop/swords_and_soldiers_3d

"it shouldn't come as a surprise that the single-player only approach of Swords & Soldiers 3D is a disappointment. Much more disappointing, however, is just how badly that single-player experience is marred. The frame rate is terrible, the controls are about as poor as we could possibly imagine, and numerous unfortunate design choices intrude on any fun that could be had. Having Swords & Soldiers on the go should have been an easy war to win. Instead, we advise you to beat a hasty retreat."

I haven't really played any RPG's, though no to Pokemon. I think the last RPG game I might have played was Golden Sun on the GBA.
Well, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn was released a few years ago for the DS. And if you're looking for a more traditional approach, Dragon Quest IX for the DS is a good one. Also check out Final Fantasy: the 4 Heroes of Light. One of my favorites.

Granted, they're not on sale, but I don't know what exactly you were looking for.

That's hard. Pokemon might be the most accessible...but Chrono Trigger is amazing and the story...what an excellent game.

I haven't played a SMT game (I'm not counting Persona games) since Nocturne many moons ago...Is there any reason I should feel hesitant towards SMT IV? Would Soul Hackers be a more economic choice to get my SMT kicks? I'm stuck between choosing polish and saving some cash for nostalgic old-school style/setting.

I would recommend SMT IV to you then. Then you can not only enjoy it but say how much different it is from SMT 3
Did you unlock the special stages? Those really inject some challenge into it. I loved 3D Land. I wouldn't call it the best 3DS game, but it's still damned good and easily the best 3DS platformer.

Dragon Quest IX is an excellent starter, but will spoil older rpgs for you. However, I'm also biased to that series because my first rpgs were Dragon quest i , ii and iv on the NES. Also, I wasn't into strategy rpgs until I played (mentioning it again) Ghost Recon Shadow Wars. That led me into Fire Emblem Awakening which is my favorite game at the moment.

Edit: There is a demo of Awakening on the eshop if you want to give it a shot.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... You can't start someone off on DQ or grid-based strategy as their first RPG - you gotta ease them into it... Not offer up something that starts up slow & boring or has a difficulty spike.

Pokemon would be best, but that was ruled out.

Unfortunately the bulk of the 3DS RPG's are sprawling JRPG's that you just have to dive into. If this were PS3 or Steam we were talking about here then recommendations would be much easier.

*Edit*

Noticed he said he played GS, DQ might not be such a huge leap after all - even if I find the series incredibly boring. However, I'd still feel weird offering up a DS game... Is Denpamen an RPG? Sounds like he's just wanting to relieve an RPG itch and something bite-sized would probably be the best bet for that.

I know you said no already to Pokemon, but unless you have a really good reason for not wanting to play Pokemon I think you should start there.

Aside from that your best bet is probably to go back through the regular DS library. Maybe Chrono Trigger?

When someone says "rpg" my mind goes to turned based/grid based combat rpgs (usually jrpgs) . If he finds that boring, then rpgs aren't for him. Shadow Wars is easy to understand and eases you into the genre, like I said it was my first strategy rpg. I had only played turned based before that game. Also, Dragon quest is a classic and ix is the most modern and newbie friendly of the bunch.

I still stand by my recommendations. Denpamen is an rpg of sorts, but I found it very easy, almost too easy. I felt that it somewhat played itself, without leaving you much choice in commands. Probably good for an absolute beginner, but if he's played golden sun, he can play DQ.
