I saw plenty of those opinions, which is part of why I found the game disappointing. There's nothing wrong with form, but there has to be more to it than that to make a good game. Don't get me wrong, ALBW is very well executed, but it has so little else going for it that it's hard for me to see why people got so excited about it. And again, the idea of getting any item in any order is nice on paper, but in practice it just kind of strips dungeons of the sort of solid design direction that's been the hallmark of most Zelda games. It feels like Zelda-by-the-numbers, which means a solid game, but a forgettable one.
It is a good remake of ALttP and all, but the whole mechanic getting the items in any order really does make the dungeons feel one-note because the progression only depends on one item. Add that to the dungeons having been shortened and over-simplified versus their ALttP counterparts and, with two execptions, all of the dungeons feel like the first dungeon in a more challenging game. But, aside from the rote dungeons and lazy hero mode, ALBW does do a lot right that recent Zelda games haven't. Though I'm probably the only person that still felt that the beginning of the game was taking too long; seeing that I had trouble staying awake through it.

"Let's say you have a hypothetical $50 to spend at the estore. You already have Super Smash, PokeX, Mario Golf and Super Mario Bros 3.

What do you grab? Bravery or Fire Emblem worth the hype? A Zelda game? Anything else? Any Virtual Console gems? Save it for something upcoming? Any list online that tells future VC games?"

Going off my list of games:

Yumi's Odd Odyssey (Sale candidate but you missed the big sale)

Pushmo

Crashmo

DK94 if you couldn't bum one from the CN coin rush minigame

Mole Mania

Rabi Laby 1-3 and Witch's Cat (For puzzle game masochists)

Dr. Mario Express

Mr. Driller Drill til You Drop

Gunman Clive 1 and 2

Gunvolt and Mighty Gunvolt (Sale candidate but you missed the big sale.)

Dark Void Zero

Ace Attorney 5 or the Ace Attorney Collection (Sale candidates)

Digital versions of real games:
MH4 (Sale candidate but it will be a while)

Luigi's Mansion (Sale candidate but missed the big sale)

Style Savvy Trendsetters (Doubt the sale candidacy but who knows)

Etrian Odyssey 4 (Sometimes is on sale for $15)

Stuff you could get elsewhere but may want on the go:
Cave Story

Retro City Rampage

That will stretch $50 to the breaking point and beyond. But, at the same time, a lot of that is cheap so you can score a lot of game within the bounds of that $50. That is a lot of time-consuming grind in EO or slightly less time but more compact meaty fun with Cave Story, DK94, Mole Mania, etc.

does anyone know if eshop codes expire?  I know codes via Club Nintendo promos had expiration dates, but not sure if they actually did expire.  I have some codes from GS preorders and other places.

Soo.. The trozei games are worse than shuffle? I'm starting to chafe under the freemium restrictions and am thinking about getting the last one. Maybe I should just wait for Puzzle and Dragons instead?

Puzzle and Dragons is a very decent game of these types of games. Wait for that.

I find it pretty funny that the DKC trilogy is back on the OG Wii Virtual Console now. Did we ever get an actual reason for its removal??

I played Shuffle a lot from the time it came out, and sometimes, yeah, the restrictions are annoying. For the past two days or so, I didn't play it hardly at all because I got into a new game. And by new, I mean I'm finally playing Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift. This game is pretty great.

Anyway, Shuffle is kind of like a mobile game you come back to. It would be better on our smartphones, but hey. And yeah, I hope to have Puzzle and Dragon day one, but I'm not preordering until I hear something that confirms no in-app purchases on the level of typical mobile games.

There better not be any IAP on a $39.99 retail game. Nintendo even lowered Mario Golf to $29.99 when they decided to do DLC so I expect them to do something similar to Puzzle and Dragons if they go the IAP way.

I'm surprised more information on P&D isn't out yet, but it should be any day now. The game comes out in just a couple few months, I believe.

The problem with the other Trozei games is that you are either under a strict time limit or you need to complete lines in a certain way to find specific Pokemon. And one puzzle can have as many as 10 Pokémon on it. Shuffle not only simplifies it, but adds the power ups and Mega Evolutions, which helps out a lot.

Thanks. I just want the same gameplay but without all the horrible free to play stuff. There just hasn't been any good puzzle RPGs since the original Puzzle Quest.

I posted about this earlier, but I like your post better. Mine was the lazy link only version.

I almost bought Shantae the other day for 3DS. Has anyone played this yet? I know it's gotten great reviews, but I want to know what my fellow CAGs think. It's likely to end up like any thing I pick for 3DS right now though and take a back seat to MH4U.

It's a relatively short metroidvania-lite. I picked it up the last time it was $15, and have since finished it (weird, I know). I like it, though it's not without its annoyances, and I feel like WayForward's writing style may be getting a little tired. Overall good, though perhaps a bit overpriced.

Another week of disappointment from the eShop. Compared to PSN and XBL, these sales are terrible. Anything worth getting is rarely discounted more than 25% off on the eShop. I would like to see more sales on VC games, Nintendo titles, and generally just more discounts on games that are worth getting. I don't know about you guys, but I don't know anyone rushing to buy Penguins of Madagascar or any of today's discounts for that mater.

At 75% off Mighty Switch Force 2 is something I will pick up since I have the first game and enjoy it enough to own the sequel at that price, but deals like this are so few and far between on the eShop it's sad.

Just in case you don't realize it, today's Wednesday, so this isn't the day for big sales or new releases or whatever. You'll have to wait until tomorrow to make your complaint reach its maximum impact.

You're talking the 3DS/Wii U one, right? Not the original Game Boy Color game or the DSiWare one? I assume you mean the new 3DS one.

Anyway, I absolutely love it. I'm not sure I'd really consider it a Metroid-clone sort of thing (I refuse to say Metroidvania :p ); it isn't really as open or mappy or exploration-oriented or "get power up to open more of the map" as Metroid, although all of that is still there. To me, it is just a really darn good platformer with a dose of RPG-lite and some story thrown in for good measure. I feel like stuff like this doesn't come around very often, and to me it has more merit and personality than the majority of Metroidvanias out there (minus the real ones, i.e. Super Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night).

No, it's not perfect, and yes, I'm drinking the Kool-Aid, and yes, I am drunk upon nostalgia, but, again, stuff like this just doesn't come very often. I actually love how the lower-resolution of the 3DS (as compared to 720p or whatever) makes it look kind of older than it is--yet, it has BEAUTIFULLY drawn art and such great animation and sprite work. It reminds me of how games would have looked if we hadn't stumbled into excruciatingly ugly 3D in the 32-bit era.

If I haven't sold you on it yet, it is probably not your game. :)

If anyone wants to split the cost of Mario vs. DK with me, PM me. (When you purchase the game, you get a DL code for the other version. So instead of paying $20, we'd each pay $10.) Also include which version you'd prefer to have.

Just purchased OlliOlii, and despite that it says you get the other version free only if you pay full price, you do in fact get both at the "special introductory price" ($8.49 instead of $9.99). Glad Nintendo got this one right! (reposted from Wii U thread, for obvious reasons)

Ending Soon:

Tempted to get Space Lift Danger Panic, but it seems there are 40 levels, each which can be completed in about a minute.

I wonder if I can get anyone to do a cross buy of OlliOlli with me. I assume with cross-buy, someone buys the game on Wii U and gets a code for the 3DS game?

So is MH4U worth picking up? I have 3 on the wii u but never got too into it mainly due to time and other games catching my attention. What little I played I did enjoy. I enjoyed 4's demo, but does it still take a long time to get into it?

Not for me, I bought the game on Wii U and it showed up as free for me on the 3DS. No code involved.
Good to know. I didn't know how the cross-buy system worked. I don't really need the temptation to get OlliOlli anyway. Honestly, it looks like it would infuriate me more than be fun. But reviewers say it is addictive. Needs a demo.

If you're cool just watching other people play it, you can always catch it on Twitch. That's how I learned that it isn't a game for me. :)

So... Is there any good reason they priced Tipping Stars at $20? I feel like, unless they packed it to the brim with content, their main reasoning was because they knew they were selling two copies of the game.

At a $10-15 price point I'd be heavily tempted, but for $20 I'll just wait for a sale.

Also, OlliOlli is serious fun and addicting. I loved playing it and the sequel is a lot of fun, too.

Is the 3D effect good/worthwhile for OllieOllie?

I can see good potential being 2D on 2D backgrounds, but if it hurts framerate that'd majorly screw with timings etc...  Already have it on PS systems but tempted to pick up again to support devs if the 3D is good (same reason I get the Mighty Switch Force games on 3DS over WiiU, the 2D sprites pop nicely in them)

Because Nintendo?

The cross buy thing is probably just their way of getting to charge that much for it. Probably would be $15 still if they sold them separately.

Who else is particularly bummed that olliolli2 is also not on 3ds/Wii U? The original is incredible but I already played it on Vita for $2.

Well, there's that reasoning you wanted. You answered your own question lol. This is Nintendo in a nutshell. This would've been $10-15 without the crossbuy.

Yeah, I was mostly just wondering what people who bought it thought... I mean, I know there were both retail & downloadable titles in this franchise, just wondering what this new one felt most like. I'll almost never pay over $15 for a downloadable game, but if this was more(content wise) like the retail versions then it's a little closer to bargain price than overpriced.

Still, I'll be waiting for the first sale.

I am. Just captured the evolved Kanto starters.

BTW, use the code 20150007 to get 2 free Mega Starts.

Yeah you were correct I was talking about the new one for 3DS and Wii U. I think I will pick this up, I have heard nothing but good things and your input seems to be in line with that.
