Just now getting back into playing my 3DS and dang, I missed the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy sale. I have no desire to play it on my iPad, so I guess I'll wait.

I say it every time, EO4 was so good it convinced me RPGs weren't entirely a grindy trashy genre of random chance, skinner box bullshit, and iterating through obvious copy-paste strategies in every snoozefest of a repeated fight.

$10 is a steal.

SMRPG was my first RPG, and the boss fights definitely were not copy paste. The bad guys tended to fuck with your characters or the game interface itself, which always throws you off your game.

Yaridovich and the pirate shark were the only ones who did that that I can recall, and the shark if you didn't get told by your friends at school or didn't go online and see everyone say don't kill the last minion.

But a high performing SMRPG party was just Hyper Jump/Ultra Fire, I forgot Bowser's attack, Geno's star shot thing, and Princess Psych Bomb or heal or items. There was nothing sophisticated to it, especially in random combat.

I loved it, of course but I was like 6 or 10 or something at the time. Between then and EO4 I had played a bunch of other Square crap, a bunch of Bioware crap, the Fallouts (THE Fallouts, 1 and 2. Not that I don't enjoy 3, NV, and 4...), countless runs of Nethack, and more than I can count. Just a bunch of games where combat feels like a means to an end or a low rent lift of something another game has done better.

It could be my shit taste but the EO series is the only one I have played that has really taken turn-based RPG combat and turned it into something elegant and compelling using just the basic parts of the genre and just executing them so well I never thought it possible. It's not even really a new thing. It's like I just walked out of a shit modern art museum and entered the Sistine Chapel or something and thought "Wait... you can use paint, the SAME paint, to do... that?!"

Yaridovich didn't screw with your interface. He was just strong and could split in two. Bowyer disabled either your Attack, Special, or Item buttons, Croco stole your items in Match #2, Dodo kidnapped one of your party members, Jinx had several insta-Kill moves, and both Bundy and Kalamari could make your fighters scared and cut their attack in half.

And Ultra Jump/Ultra Flame are pathetic attacks. The Super versions are far superior. Bowser's specials were weak as hell and he didn't really work for boss fights. Geno Flash did do a ton of damage and was the most powerful attack the gang had. Psych Bomb was decently powerful, but Princess was better used to heal endlessly, especially once she got the Lazy Shell armor.

Super Mario RPG is my favorite video game ever and I will defend it until the end of time.

I rarely buy digital content or DLC for my Nintendo titles largely because their management is terrible still. How the DLC is tied to your Wii U and 3DS is just stupid especially for those of us with multiple consoles.

That being said I had a quick question I believe I already have the answer to. Shantae is on sale for $10 both on the Wii U and the 3DS. I would have to buy BOTH versions, $10 x2 to be able to play it on both consoles? I cannot just buy one of them and have access to that title on the other console?

And Bundt was a tricky boss in general, not being HP-based. With all those and some unexpected boss rushes in the tail end of the game, SMRPG got pretty creative, even if it was never particularly difficult.

You are correct, sir.

There's a Cross Buy list of titles for Wii U and 3DS in the OP and Shantae is not on that list.

It's times like these I'm tempted to sell my 3DS out of spite for Nintendo's horrible eshop sales. I'm not going to, of course. But the temptation? Oh, it's there. I assure you it's there!

Just bought Shovel Knight physical copy from BB daily deal. $15.99 after GCU. Now it's great deal especially when you've got some e-cards with discount.

I kinda wish I had known that a physical Shovel Knight was coming so I could have waited for that. But I guess I do get bragging rights for backing the Kickstarter.

I actually have never played them - H thinking about picking up the trilogy. I just don't like buying digital with Nintendo since the games are tied to one system at any point in time...

Insert obligatory "If you don't own Ace Attorney yet, buy it yesterday" comment.

These AA games are digital only anyway. The DS versions of the trilogy games are the only physical copies but you would be missing out on the upgrades.

They're also available on iOS but I'm not sure on the pricing.

The website means nothing. The eShop price is the correct price.
Yea, they're messing with the website. It first said 14.99 for me.. so I saved outta Adventure Bar Story and went to grab it. The eShop said $20... which while good wasn't the $15 I was pouncing on. Went back to the web site and it was at 29.99. So I just shrugged it off, said "oh Nintendo" (because they'll never get into the correct decade as far as anything with them goes), and bit on 19.99.

Since you can't buy through their website like Sony or MS allow, the website prices are probably updated manually by one Korean intern sent in with a printed out spreadsheet and instructions on how to edit HTML through Notepad.

Nintendo.

Are these the lowest price it has ever been for both Phoenix Wright games?
I may bite on it since I never tried them.
I believe that Dual Destinies has been this price before but not lower.

I'm not sure about the trilogy, though. It was only released a year ago so the odds are against it.

Considering the Phoenix Wright games and Monster Hunter 4. Do you guys recommend the digital or physical version for MH4?

I am picking up Shovel Knight.
Really hoping for Xenoblade, but hey can't win them all.
Anyone have any other recommendations for someone who never really got into Phoenix Wright?

But you can? (not sure if it's only/all first-party games or decided on a game-by-game basis)

You can, but only certain first party or AAA titles. You get a download code, which you can apply right away to set up the download without ever touching your system.

MH4 is criminally addictive, repetitive, and grindy. I think it's largely mediocre with some bits of brilliance and still clinging to a lot of MH1's trash design and I still put probably close to 200 hours into it.

You need the ability to cut it off. To excise it from your life like an all-consuming MMO cancer.

Get physical. So you can SELL it and cast it and your save off into the void and ensure you will never ever be tempted by it again.

I also made money selling it.

As someone who's a big fan of persona and smt, is Persona Q worth the $20. I'm not a fan of the EO gameplay, but I've heard a lot of praise for it.
The gameplay is pure EO. Weaker mechanics than standard EO but it is all dungeons and map drawing. But the presentation is ace, pure Persona with loads of dialogue, spit polish out the wazoo. Definitely a work of love for the fans. You can crank it down to ez if the battles get to you.

The fourth dungeon of five has some really trashy tedious puzzles but the rest of the game works.

Yeah, I think you'd like it just for the Persona stuff. You can play it on easy and turn on auto mapping if that stuff bothers you. The combat's pretty solid either way.

Lol 2DS's.

What they need to make is translucent New 3DS plates for each game. (Like the awesome ORAS ones)
I mean I wouldn't buy a 2DS at this point personally (though a N3DS in that form factor could be interesting) but I think they really nailed those and have a quality that evokes various Game Boy models.

I've heard the 2DS is extremely comfortable to hold. The only real drawback (if you don't count no 3D) is the fact that it can't fold.
It is. I really liked my 2DS but got rid of it because half my games are digital and Nintendo's dumb about digital and multiple systems still.

I'm guessing there's very little chance that Zelda II will ever go on sale?  Nintendo doesn't really seem to like to do first party sales like ever.

*sigh*  It's the last (available) Zelda I need for my 3DS Zelda Collection. (stupid Minish Cap being locked for founders(?) only.  Also, where the hell is my Link To The Past on 3DS?  It's a crime that doesn't exist.)

They had a bunch of the zeldas on sale last year I think. Usually corresponds to some anniversary. Haven't seen many first party sales like that this year though.

Oh wait, I am probably thinking of wii u
