Central Park is hiding a secret. Built as a safe haven not for the people of New York but for something else entirely, the vast parkland has been protected by generations of guardians while the most expensive city in the world reached skyward on its fringes. Now the truth can no longer be contained, and paranormal investigator Edward Carnby finds himself inexplicably cast into the eye of the storm as over the course of one apocalyptic night he must uncover the earth-shattering secret behind Central Park. New York will never be the same again.

 • Exhilarating gameplay: Get ready for blockbuster action, tense exploration, dangerous driving, and vicious fights as hero Edward Carnby fights to survive one apocalyptic night to uncover the earth-shattering secret behind Central Park.
 • Intense story: Taking cues from blockbuster TV dramas, the story is told in a TV season-style to deliver pace and intensity throughout, keeping you hooked with action, plot twists, and cliff hangers.
 • Chapter select: Creating the first game that everyone can finish, the innovative DVD-style chapter select lets you move on if you get stuck, with the grand finale reserved for those who finish a certain amount of the game.
 • Improvisation: The new level of environmental interaction is based on real world rules where anything you could do in real life, you can do in the game. Use your imagination to create unique tools and devastating new weapons.
 • Immersion: Prepare to plunge into the heart of the action in real-time with full movement control, in-game inventory system, on-body damage, healing system, and physiological effects.
 • Pyromania: Unique physics and light rendering are applied to the realistic-looking fire which propagates realistically across all flammable surfaces. Fire is a valuable ally, but can become your worst enemy.
 • Photographic rendering: Experience a lavishly detailed game world with advanced cinematographic effects including depth of field, camera focus, numerous light sources, and High Dynamic Range effects.

Impressive...

I hope theres a side quest/area where you can kill Uwe Boll. That man is impossible to forget about whenever the name Alone in the Dark appears. Just hope the movie image didn't rub off on too many gamers, not that I'm expecting this title to fly off shelves.

I'm just glad I never saw it.

I saw it with a good friend and we were literally alone in the dark! It was just me and him in the ENTIRE theater. It was a experience I'll never forget

*ahem* Hope this game turns out good.

Got some major Condemned-like "holy-fuck-it's-dark-and-i-can't-see-the-shit-that-is-coming-at-me" vibes from that trailer... Guess this is going to be another "can only play during the daytime" game for me.

I stumbled upon the trailers for this at IGN 2 weeks ago and have been thinking about it since. Looks great. The fire will actually light other things up instead of somehow staying in one spot.

That tech demo looks pretty cool. But I'm kind of tired of "flashlight" games. Didn't like that aspect of Doom 3, and I think overall the concept is a little tired. I'm not sure I will slog through AitD and Condemned 2, but maybe one.

I think it is cool that you can use items like a chem-lite and combine them with sticky tape to make a makeshift light on the ceiling in dim lit areas. The ability to use random props is cool too. (Swords on the wall)

i've been interested in this game for awhile now. I just hope they do something new/different with it.. the whole shooter genre has felt stale since playing bioshock.

Nice DEV Q and A.

This is interesting though.

Another achievement is linked to whether or not the player skips. We want everybody to be able to finish our game, so one of the other new features we've added is the ability to skip sections using a DVD-style menu if you get stuck, but always at a cost, and achievements is one way to reward players who don't skip.

So you can now fast-foreward past a part if you are a stupid shit?

This should please the 12 year old girls and non-gamers this game is looking to try and target.

Sounds sexy

Hopefully atari won't screw this game up like they did with bullet witch and driver 3. This game is actually looking really good.

Okay that video is freaking sweet. I love how the right analog controls the object. Cant wait for this one.

Man, this game has alot of great ideas, especially for a survival horror title. May have to pick this up now since easily got my interest. Just need a demo though to seal the deal.

admittingly, I thought this was a game for "Are You Afraid of the Dark?", the old Nickelodeon kids series. I just totally forgot the real name until now... I'm glad I was wrong. :)

Sticky tape, sticky tape, sticky tape, sticky tape, sticky tape, sticky tape, sticky tape, sticky tape, sticky tape, sticky tape, sticky tape, sticky tape, sticky tape, sticky tape, sticky tape, sticky tape, sticky tape, sticky tape.

Nick Cannon is hilarious!

New tech demo up. I just can't say enough about how excited I am for this game. It's got hints of dues ex in the design with that do anything to advance approach. I just love the freedom they're giving to the player. Easily one of my most anticipated titles at the moment...
Whoa shit! That's fucking sick. I remember the orignial true survivol horror game Alone In The Dark on the PC...used to scare the shit outta me, and the graphics weren't that great...I can only image how I'll have problems sleeping after playing through this one ;)

New gameplay vids up:

I think I'm the only person I know who thinks AitD is going to be obscenely awesome. Come on guys, you know Atari is due for a good game...

I've heard from industry insiders and playtesters that the wiimote controls are perfect and crazy immersive like nothing before...but playing the game in anything other than glorious HD might be difficult for me.

Anyway, that helicopter part looked pretty epic.

Ed Carnby looks like Stuntman Mike from Death Proof.

Only complaint I can make from those videos is melee looks a bit clunky, but everything else looks awesome.

You control the object you hold with either the wiimote or the analog stick depending on your console of choice. So you can manipulate the analog stick/wiimote to move objects with gentle interaction (such as safely moving aside exposed power lines in a sewer channel) or rapid movement for a quick bludgeoning. The game is trying desperately to take that whole "full body awareness" thing to the next level for greater immersion in gaming.

I really hope they succeed. Pair that with a perfected sandbox like GTA4 should be and I can promise you I would never leave the house again. I mean could you imagine the realism? The only thing that could top that is VR.

...What the hell ever happened to VR anyway?
any higher quality trailers out there? Youtube resolution sucks the ass

That song sounds like it's from Ghost in the Shell....

Ok turns out that this is an old E3 Trailer from 2006

Now - this - would be an amazing endeavor - if not just for nostalgia sake.

Collectors Edition Announced:
aloneinthedarkspecial.jpg

Taking advantage of our suspiciously piqued interest for the game, Atari has announced and detailed a special edition that will release along side the standard package. Included in the over-sized box edition is the game (duh!), making of documentary, CD soundtrack (8 tracks), art book and a figurine of in game hero Edward Carnby.

While no price has been confirmed for the special edition, this package would be a steal for an extra $10. Here's hoping the special edition price-point doesn't dim the lights on our bank account when it releases this summer.

Meh...If I get the game I'll go for the regular.

How you interact with the objects in the game and the mix of different gameplay is very impressive but the DVD style section skip seems a little weird to me, this game is looking very good so far. Never played an Alone in the Dark game before and I guess I'll know if I'm actually interested in picking it up next month when it gets released.

i've been watching this game for a while, hoping that it will live up to its potential. guess we'll know in a month.
on a side note, for gamestop/ebgames daily deal today (5/27) you can get free overnight shipping (usually $10). on top of the $10 discount, free t-shirt, and free soundtrack, i just couldn't hold off pre-ordering any longer. fyi, the coupon code is 'alone'.

I'm hearing that it has bad controls, a wonky camera, clipping issues and you can only kill enemies with fire. ONLY with fire. You have to drag enemies to fire if there's none around so they'll die. That sounds really, really bad.

Went from a OMG BUYBUYBUY to a "eh, maybe I'll rent it".

//edit: Holy crap, impressions keep getting worse and worse. Excuse their bad english, some are from other countries where it's already out..

Exactly, you have another scripted car escape mission. Of course is full of bugs. There is some creatures like bats that chase you and get sticky to the car and broke it, so you have to run away (it doesn´t really matter how fast you go, they always catch you) and to get rid of the creatures you have to ram yourself into others cars. Yes, you have to crush your car against other cars and if you miss one you better hit a tree or something because the bats-like will kill you if you don´t. AND you can only use the car you have. It does not really matter that they are other cars in the road in perfect state, you have to use just that one.
So, you get killed by the bats or you wreck your car trying to avoid them.

Did I mention that you better complete it at once or you have to do it from the start?

I was so excited for this game, but it's a complete and utter shambles.

The controls are just awful, the voice acting terrible, the puzzles are downright stupid.

Stay away from this game people!

I would go as far as saying it's unplayable.

Graphics : Good but not outstanding. This is the only good thing about it

Sound: NO atmospheric sound, no spooky noises. Just boring. Imagine the sound when playin enter the matrix.

Length: This game is short! Im over half way through this after 3 hours. The episodes are tiny, and you have no idea when they start. Its just a small game!

Controls: Now alot of you have mentioned how bad the controls is and yes they are damn well right. You are tossing up whether to press the action button or jump button as they change completely if your driving a lil forklift truck or running around in 3rd person or 1st person. Seriously the first person aiming is bad, you could shoot in the general direction an your unknown if you hit or miss your target. The driving is unsensitive where its just forward and reverse. Practically this game's controls is just broken.

Final Thought: If you like to play extremely bad games, made by companies who are new then feel free to waste your time and money on this junk. I am not kidding this game has been the worst ive played all year long. Maybe worst ever. 3/10 pure for graphics
