Games that activate on Origin

Per MysterD's suggestion:

Here's the Steam Key Activation Page List.

NOTE: This list is incomplete so if you're unsure you still want to ask in the thread.

I'll be posting this a few times in this thread. I also post this regularly whenever people ask about activation limits with Amazon Game Downloads:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_200205020_times?nodeId=200205020&#times

How many times can I download my games or software?

You can download an unlimited number of times for personal use. To re-download, go to Your Games and Software Library through the "Your Digital Items" link at the top of the screen and click the download button.
Can I download and install to multiple computers?

For video games: Each game manufacturer has a different policy on how many installations are allowed with each product key. If you run out of installations for the product key you originally purchased from Amazon, please contact Customer Service and we will happily provide you with another key at no additional charge. You can install an unlimited number of times for personal use, however additional copies of the game for friends or family must be purchased separately.

Nice deal. I was considering picking up Sins of a Solar Empire Trinity since it was on sale for $10 but I've had my eye on this game for awhile so I think Sins will have to wait :)
Wow, that's an old Steam video - Steam looks much better and slicker, these days. :p

You can now also activate a non-Steam game from clicking on lower-left hand corner where it says "Add A game".
Then, "Add A Non-Steam game".
Then, you get that drop-down box that scans your PC for EXE files and games [like your vid shows].
And you can add from there.

Guys who use Steam, you might want to keep this link bookmarked - this is the [often updated] Official List of Steam-activated games.
Thanks for posting this MysteryD! Much more helpful than mine :).

Let me know if you pick it up and you like it. The thread over at the Slickdeals site has a couple people with gameplay questions that I don't know how to answer because I've only played "The Legend".

Luckily this gives me a great excuse to do some "research" tonight :).

Cheers,
Tony

Great price on King's Bounty. Already have it through Steam from the summer sale. Although I haven't gotten to it yet, I played the demo of Armored Princess and liked it enough to get the pair of games, Legend and Princess. Seems great for HoMM fans!
Just a note on my experiences with Darkspore.

Darkspore: frustrating as heck to install/run correctly. Has trouble finding the server, trouble connecting to the server if it manages to find it, and the thing seems to believe my firewall is ALWAYS running unless I turn off my entire protection system. I added exceptions for this game, but it says "noooooo u." Not to mention I can't alt-tab on my Laptop. I'm going to try installing on my desktop and see how it fares here, but so far I'm unhappy with my purchase because of this extremely poor optimization. Please don't tell me I wasted 12$...
Just wanted at add to this since it sounds like the issues you're having are related to Internet connectivity problems: if you're running any fully-updated version of Windows that's XP or later, you ABSOLUTELY DO NOT NEED ANY OTHER FIREWALL OTHER THAN THE OS's BUILT IN ONE. I can not stress this enough.

Really awesome price on a good set of games. I already have these - they have to be some of the most frequently discounted pc digital games in history, but I'm sure I probably paid $5 a pop for all three of them.

I would recommend to anyone with a passing interest or who played the HoMM games back in the day like I did.

Slight derail: I run fully updated versions of Windows 7 Professional, both 64 bit. I only have two firewalls- my router's built-in one and my computer's. I tried adding exceptions for Darkspore on both of them and when that didn't work, I tried disabling both of them while I try to play the game. Still having issues after disabling, and a few quick google searches lead me to believe the game is just poorly coded. A quick check of error code 73003 and just other network connection problems will show thousands of people having the errors I'm having despite following suggestions like disabling their firewalls and what not. I've managed to play the game (by play the game, I mean log in and have the option to start the tutorial) maybe twice since I bought it and I've tried about 50-60 times. :/

Back on topic: King's bounty looks really good. How's the level editor in game? I enjoy custom levels and what not, so if there's some cool user created content I'll check this out.

You put far too much faith in Windows firewalls. Replacing it with a better software-based firewall isn't that bad of an idea as they're usually better at what they do and a little more straight forward to use. You don't necessarily NEED to install a different software-based firewall, but then again there are a lot things you don't need.

More on topic, great deal Tony! I already of the King's Bounty games, but if I didn't I'd be picking them up here.

Sins of a Solar Empire is good, but it has no SP campaign.
The Demo actually forced my hand to make me buy the game, back when Sins first came out.
I was actually aggravated the timer on the demo went out and went out and bought the game, hehe.

If you ain't played Sins yet, give the demo a shot.

I haven't got around to getting The DLC or Trinity Edition.

I've heard the level editor is fun, and it looks like there is still a lot of community around it. Check it out and let me know what you think:

I have the exact same OS and use only the OS's built in firewall, and the game--both the demo and the Amazon Digital Download version--work flawlessly for me. The only reasons I'm defaulting to it being related to your needless router firewall are: 1) the system requirements are pretty lax for being a recent game; and 2) because the game connects to EA servers every time it boots in order to check for patches/updates, which seem to be released on a rather regular basis to keep up with balance issues.

Still, sorry to hear that you can't figure it out; and it sucks if there's a lot of other people reporting the same issues. I was going to make a comment about said scenarios being why I play fewer games on my rig these days, but seeing as the HUD completely disappeared in my PS3 copy of Deus Ex - Human Revolution and I'm still waiting for a patch so I don't have to start over (PC version already got one), it's apparent that not even the consoles are immune to this kind of sh*t anymore.
Looks a lot like Heroes of Might and Magic series, which I really miss playing. For $5, I'll check it out. Thanks!
Let me know how you like it! I'll be playing tonight too. I'm sad that this is distracting from my time with Warhammer 40k...

Well, it didn't literally force me to go buy it. :p
The game was back then on sale at Best Buy for $25 [not long at all after game's official release], so I tested the [timed] Demo out.
I was really into the demo of the game and whatnot, around 1 hour, I think it was....and the demo's time-clock ran out.
I liked what I played and wanted more, so I went and bought the game.

tried the demo @steam, and i liked it. purchased, downloading/installing was smooth, this is my first time buying a digital game from amazon.
thanks for the awesome price.

stalking this forum for some time now, and this is my first post :D

I gotcha, I was trying to work through, in my head, how a demo forced you to buy a game...i had images of popups and autoclicks in my head lol.

Got my copy. Downloading now :) It was between this and Sins and i've noticed Sins of the Empire - Trinity has gone on sale on the past. So I can just wait for another deal and pick it up then.

That's pretty ironic, I knew I seen this game somewhere. Sorry for the off-topic post, but it's on sale at Impulse for $9.97. Not sure if that's a biting price, but Amazon will probably price-match it, or there will probably be another digital distribution site putting it up for sale for less than that haha...

EDIT: It includes the original game and the two expansions for it, Entrenchment and Diplomacy.

So it seems like there is no way I can play the game perfectly fine with my firewalls enabled and ports forwarding correctly? I'll just have to be really careful about trying to play this game and remember to change the security back EVERY time I attempt to play. /le sigh Thanks for trying to help. I just don't understand why this game in particular hates my firewalls so much. I've only had issues with maybe 2-3 games of my huge Steam collection, but even they will eventually work with my firewalls on. This is making me a sad panda. :(

Time to do something entertaining to make for up for the dreary I brought today.

Hey everyone, thanks SO MUCH for bringing this up. We're working hard over here to get the Platinum Edition back up, but until then, we've put the individual games on sale a la carte for some smoking hot prices.

Let me know what you think and I will let you know as soon as we have the Platinum Edition back up!

I also have a fun announcement/deal specifically for you guys to help with (if you're willing). Stay tuned :).

Cheers,
Tony

Nice!

I also noticed that you guys are now offering the Kings Bounty: Game of the Year Edition for $4.19. Any difference from the Platinum version?

Thanks!

Platinum Edition includes King's Bounty: The Legend, the prequel for King's Bounty: Armored Princess.

was playing this game for some hours now (patiently waiting for my Dark Souls from Amazon) and very well worth it for the 5$ i paid.

I've put about 2 hours into it so far and glad I picked it up..this is one of those games that can soak ya in quickly :)

Thank you for your post, these King's bounty deals are fantastic. I already own the first game and the others look very interesting. I would bite on the games I don't already own, but unfortunately the DRM on them seems very restrictive. I do understand that this in not the fault of Amazon, but of the publisher.

My feedback would be that $4.19 is a price that makes pulling the trigger a no brainer, but since the game can only be installed an X number of times, doing so would not feel "right" - like I get to play it for a while but have to give it back later. For me it's a psychological roadblock and not a monetary one, I cut my teeth on an Atari 2600 and am used to putting the cartridge in the slot whenever the mood strikes.

I am going to keep my eye on this slot to see what other deals come up. I've taken advantage of some of the other offers posted here and would certainly be interested to see what comes next.

FYI: From Amazon Game Downloads Help Section:

Huge amount of content in the KB series (naturally since the battles tend to take a bit) -- expect 100+ hours total and you can easily exceed that.

So the(KB) version on amazon still has the 3 install limit yes? Amazon's website doesn't say a thing about activations, but the reviews mention it.

Oh man, I'm such a sucker for all of these $5 PC games! Really enjoying my new PC.

Tony, think Amazon could change the downloader so the download window pops to the front when downloads are finished? I was just wasting time on my computer for the 4 GB download to finish when I decided to click it to check progress and I found out it finished.

Purchased Kings Bounty Platinum! Thanks Amazon guy (or girl)!

EDIT: Just found out about the activation limit. I should have read a bit more. The reason I generally purchase on steam is to avoid the hassle of having to de-activate and re-activate games. I'm not sure if this limit is from Amazon or from Kings Bounty (I think the KB folks are responsible), but it's something I'm not pleased about. This happened another time when I bought something from somewhere other than Steam and it became a problem, as I have three computers I regularly play games on.

I see that amazon can send you a new key, but it's still nicer to not have to think about activations, get new keys, etc. Hopefully Amazon will make this painless.

Side note - Huge amazon app store user, and I've already ordered a Kindle Fire. I'm also a Prime member! Amazon is my favorite place to buy things and I'd like to to be my favorite place for games as well!

On occasion, you'll find that on Steam as well if you look closely at the requirements. I like that Amazon is up front about taking care of you as a customer even if the publisher imposes draconian DRM like that.
Silly Nesrie, DRM problems are for un-awesome companies. Amazon and Tony have got you covered. ;)
Heh, I am a big fan of Amazon and Tony, it's the publisher I don't trust and guess who Amazon get's their keys from. I'll pass for now. Tons of games to get without limits of any kind.
