Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

Yeah...honestly it's cause I'm not sure I'd ever get around to playing it. I'm trying to quit buying games that'll go in the "permanent backlog" category these days. My account has ceased to be a source of pride for me and is now more of a question of whether I should get therapy or something...
but think about your great great great grandchildren who live to be 300 years old, with your library they'll be set. So in a way you're providing a better future, if only you could remove bad rats from your library.

Everyone is trying to convince you to buy more games and feed your addiction. Don't know if I'd call that free or a good deal.

Oh, and you should totally buy more games. It's not about playing them, it's about having the ability to play them.
Drink, Drink, Drink!!!!! oh wait, wrong addiction. ;)

huh what lol

Purchasing Groupees BMX and Humble Worms now...

That is a very good point about my family tree. I'd better go buy some more games. And I actually don't have Bad Rats!

So, I know there's a place for people who want to buy into 4-packs, I just don't remember where it was. Looking to do so for Payday 2, can someone point me in the right direction?

I'm not sure on this, I know digital doesn't match Target though.

Good news. We're getting Steam keys for AC4 :). We'll start taking preorders on them either tomorrow or next week.

Cheers,

Tony
Wait - I thought UbiSoft was done w/ supplying you Steam-keys?!?

Okay, so are you also getting UPlay-only keys on AC4?

I do not want to deal w/ some form of UPlay and also Steam DRM.

Not that I'm buying AC4 anytime soon, mind you.

I still want/need AC3 + Season Pass.

EDIT:

I still wish you'd sell an AC3: Season Pass that was UPlay Only, BTW.

Aw time to buy GW2 and try it out! Seems like an awesome game.
They've had two free weekends within the past few months, and the price has dropped to that on occasion as well. GW2 is pretty popular, but playing it for a few hours just didn't hook me at all. I found the skill system to be boring and the quests and combat to be rather dull. You might want to wait for the next free weekend and try it out rather than dropping the cash on it.

Did you try different races/professions? I got bored with some professions and races but found enjoyment with others. I'm not playing it atm but easily got my $150 worth (CE) once I found a couple of professions and race combos that I liked.

No, just the one character. Some hunter class, IIRC--I had a bird that would fly out and attack my enemies.

I started out with a norn thief and got bored around level 40 or 50. I quit for a few months and then started a new asura guardian and was interested enough to level all the way to 80. It was a condition build using the blue-fire-breathing skill from a scepter/focus set. Fun times.

IMO, the game does offer some variation from the different races and professions. It's still easy to get burnt-out though if you level fast or get into the achievement-grinding mode. Not everyone's game, that's for sure.

Amen.

I think it's silly for Amazon DVG to sell a Steam-version of AC3 and Season Pass...

...yet ONLY sell UPlay-version of AC3 base game.

Also, Amazon DVG only sells Steam-version of AC3 Deluxe; they don't sell UPlay-version of AC3 Deluxe.

That means, if I bought UPlay-version of AC3 base game from Amazon DVG, I'd be forced to have to take my business elsewhere just for the Season Pass.

I'd rather give Amazon DVG my business, for numerous reasons.

I think it's great Tony worked his magic for Steam-version of AC4.

If Tony really worked some even more miiracle-like magic, maybe he's get UbiSoft to bloody disable UPlay in the Steam-version. ;)

There's no need for 3rd party DRM in Steam-version, since Steam DRM's normally stacked on top of other DRM.

It should be a requirement from Valve for Steam to NOT allow 3rd party DRM in their Steam-versions, in most instances.

You should give me your business when I sell the AC code that comes with an Nvidia card.  I'll beat Tony's best price by $5! Just so we don't totally cut him out of the loop I'll take Amazon credit~

They sell Steam version of it because there obviously a huge demand....you are in the minority.so..I guess you gotta either roll with what the cool kids like or shop elsewhere.

I go w/ the prices and/or the version that I prefer to puchase - I think you know this, by now, by what I say, type & post.

If U-Play version of AC3 base game is certainly cheap enough to suit me, I'll certainly will buy it from Amazon DVG. And if I have to b/c Amazon DVG just won't carry AC3 Season Pass Uplay Version, I will go ahead and buy that Season Pass elsewhere. It's that simple.

I'd rather not. I'd rather Amazon DVG carry AC3 Season Pass. But if they don't, won't - whatever, man. I'm sure I'll wind up buying other things from Amazon DVG, as usual.

Honestly I didn't even read your post. I just figured you were whining about two layers of drm.

It's more than that.

Amazon DVG carries a basically an incomplete version of AC3 UPlay-version - namely b/c they only sell AC3 base game for the UPlay version.

They DO NOT sell a AC3 Season Pass UPlay-version.

Also, they don't even carry AC3: Deluxe UPlay-version.

Yet, Amazon DVG does indeed right ahead and do sell Steam-version of AC3 base game, Season Pass, and even the Deluxe Edition.

Is there anyway to activate a key thru the Steam website or Android app?

Otherwise, I wonder if I can install Steam on my work computer . . .

The Android app is... Too limited. It can't even list all the games on sale or any other tab from the catalog. Can't remember the last time it got an update.

I don't know about the website, but I won't have hopes on it. Valve is focusing on the win/mac/Linux client 100%
