An Incomplete List of the Clearance Games at TRU updated Sept 2

CAGiversary!
Here's some new clearance starting Monday September 3. It looks like it could be YMMV. One store has Elder Scrolls IV dropping to 29.99 while another will drop it to 29.98. I have no idea why. So again it could be YMMV.
Does that game suck that bad?
Well...its very mixed.

It's been at that price for months, and months, and months.

It's cheaper at Circuit City ($8.96 or $9.xx, forget which) and has been for some time, too.
Mine in Evansville, IN has a bunch of some splinter cell game for 4.98 or around that. They still have suikoden tactics for 10.98 clearanced but I have seen 3 price drops on it in 4-5 months and since they still have alot I'm waiting for another.
Dammit I went the the Evansville IN branch on Monday evening. The assistant was still placing the stickers on the reduced games and she said they had no Splinter Cell 4 in stock for PS2 - I ended up with The Sopranos (which they seem to have about a dozen copies off) otherwise they seemed to have bugger all.
Does that game suck that bad?
I ended up buying it a while back. It's not a bad game, just an average one, kind of like Final Fantasy Tactics, but not quite as good.

I also couldn't really understand the storyline too well. I think it's sort of a continuation of Suikoden IV, which I haven't played yet.

I got an LE soundtrack with it too...

Managed to score a copy of Phoenix Wright at the Colerain Avenue Store (Cincinnati) (I hate being out of town and internet dead when deals break). I wish I could report that they had more copies but it was pretty much impossible to tell. They threw all clearance games into a bin and I estimate there were between 150-200 in there with no organization. I really could have used a shovel.

Slightly on-topic:

Holy crap, Lumines is SELLING for $60+ on eBay now.

I just picked one up a little while ago, I'm going back for the other copy tonight. Normally I wouldn't horde/flip, but AFAIK, I'm the only CAG with 40 miles from here.

So...what's the reason for you to horde/flip?
So...what's the reason for you to horde/flip?
Tsk tsk tsk, don't you pick on spooge. He's the guy who sent me a bunch of games during an old TRU clearance and I'm sure he lost money doing so too.

In that case, if he's helping fellow CAGs, he's forgiven

Picked up:

DS----------------------
Nanostray
Tomb Raider Legend
Tony Hawk Sk8land
-------------------------

For a total of (w/tax) $21.60.

Not a bad deal at all. Nanostray got some pretty good reviews.

It isn't going to last...there are exactly 100 copies of it on ebay at the time of this posting. Some have 5 hours left and no bids at 99c. $60 is at the high end, which probably is what prompted a lot of people to put theirs on ebay hoping for the same. Much like putting PS3s and Xbox 360s on ebay on launch day, the price will wear off pretty fast.
i wonder if the "hack" was found on an awful game if people would want that all the sudden...
This has already happened. Back when the original copies of GTA:LCS were the key to hacking certain firmwares the price shot up on those too.

That game was painful to play on the PSP, as evidenced by the much lower sales of its sequel. I'm glad I can finally get rid of it. I don't mind keeping Lumines as it's actually a good game that's tailored to a portable system.

GTA: LCS is hardly an awful game.

Picked up six of the DS clearance games, bringing my grand total of DS games purchased this week up to 18. Taking bets now on when I'll actually get to playing any of these...
Is Suikoden V dropping to $9.98?
9.48 at the store I went to today. They had 3 copies.

Pocket Racers ftw??!
Too bad my softmod-exploit Mechassault isn't worth anything. Then again, I only paid like $2 from EB.

Its because it has been discovered that you can use an original Lumines game to downgrade your firmware on your psp to play homebrew and much more. At least that is what I read.

I know. I just wasn't expecting the prices to jump THAT much. They already seem to be levelling off in the $40 range now.

My TRU had a few of these today while I was there looking at the $10 Ds games. Picked one up for $13 and threw it up on ebay and sold it in about an hour for $40. So basically I got my three DS games for free. :D

Open Season (GBA) might be one of those hidden gems for $9.98. The Gamespot review basically said it was a bizarre cross between Metal Slug and Super Mario Bros, and it got a fairly respectable score.

Took advantage of the B2G1 DS deal and got these -

Bust A Move DS
Nanostray
Tomb Raider Legend

$19.96 total

I've wanted Nanostray for a while, and was interested in Bust A Move DS, and after that, Tomb Raider was the last DS game that really stood out between what was left (several copies of Dino Hunter and X-Men: The Official Game and various kiddy and casino crap). Thanks benboxer!

Was out at a TRU on monday looking for some 9.98 psp games and noticed a huge stack of Lumines in the clearance bin - didn't think twice.
Then on Wednesday i saw this surge on eBay - needless to say I took another trip that nite.

It's $45 shipped used. Amazon sells it for $25 new, but "Ships in 4 to 6 weeks."
Can't you get them off of Amazon still for like $30?
is the rage for lumines still going on?

if so i think ill head to tru today...might as well score an extra $20 for these game purchases

Prices have levelled off, it seems, but they are still going for about $40

Picked up Tony Hawk American Sk8land (DS) for ~$7 after a $3 coupon.

It is ranked #20 in DS games on metacritic & seems to be a pretty fun game. My TRU had about 2 dozen of them.

I guess someone's already responded to this, but...HUH?!? Liberty City Stories was regarded as the most refined version of Grand Theft Auto by everyone I've ever talked to. They fixed the "on foot" controls to the point where they were almost functional

It was the first game in the series I could actually progress in, though I did eventually quit just because I hate the characters you're playing in those games.

I've never heard ANYONE claim it was painful to play. Certainly less so than the older games.

I figured lower sales on the sequel (if they were lower) are probably because the novelty of being able to experience that on a portable wore off.

I saw $10 Zelda as well. I'm almost tempted to pick it up again, though I doubt I'd want to play through it again. It's my favorite 3D Zelda so far (though I haven't played through that newest one).

My TRU said they just got a whole bunch of games for the clearance bin. Turns out it was pretty much 30 copies of GT4 and nothing else...

Maybe "awful" was a bit too much, but I was quoting somebody else there. I still think most gamers found LCS ultimately a little disappointing.

I've played through all 3 of the main console GTA games and enjoyed them. I hated LCS on the PSP. I haven't played the PS2 version, but that's not what I'm talking about.

The PSP just doesn't seem to be well suited for a game like this. The 3D graphics were not very smooth and the PSP's screen seems to blur worse than usual on this game. I also find controlling 3D games with the PSP's single analog nub to be problematic.

I have no problem with the game's content, but I couldn't play it past the first island due to the controls and graphical issues. When it first came out everybody was ecstatic because it was 3D GTA on a handheld, but after playing it for a week or two I think most people were wishing they were holding a PS2 controller instead of the PSP's controls. Rockstar soon answered this call with the console version.

I think that the lower sales of GTA:VCS show us that GTA on the PSP just didn't work as well as everyone hoped.

But the point I was trying to make is that this game sold really well, and the market was flooded with used copies that nobody really wanted (as it was selling new in some places for $19.99 within a few months). When the hack appeared, the used prices on ebay shot through the roof.

Well, like I said, I, and everyone else I've ever talked to about it like LCS better than the earlier Playstation 2 games. The PSP's screen does have a slow response time (relatively speaking), but it didn't affect this game, and the graphics were silky smooth.

The controls on foot were pretty bad, but much better than the earlier games.

It's called an opinion, let Lord Alfred have his, you have yours. No need to turn this into a LCS/psp discussion thread.

Personally, I've always preferred the console versions of GTA(namely since I don't yet have a PSP, I can't bring myself to pay $150 or over for a handheld) and I never had a problem with the controls in ANY of them.

I actually quit playing LCS on PS2 after a month because I wanted to move on to some of the rest of my backlog I've acquired thanks to CAG. At this rate, I'll never be done with all the games I still have sitting unplayed.

Nice haul:

Lumines II (PSP)
Rumble Rose XX
Call of Duty 2 GOTY
Legos Star Wars 2

Got an extra 30% off too on everything, so I only paid $35 before tax.

Whoa -- Legos Star Wars 2 is 9.98? For what system?

And how'd you get 30% off?

No no no, Legos SW 2 was $19.99 (for the 360),but with 30% off it was $14 so I thought that's cheap enough to warrant a purchase.

The TRU was closing I think, 30% off ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. All sale final though (no returns).

I got Justice League Heroes of the PSP for $10 yesterday! :hot: I even risked passing on the cheap PS2 version in case I could get it for cheap on the PSP

Great find! The reviews werent great but who cares? Im a superhero WHORE. This game is fun as Hell.:applause:

I thought all TRU stores that were closing would've closed a long time ago, much like the Kmart/Sam Goody/etc/etc/etc stores which were listed in threads here on CAG up to two years ago.

Closest store to me that closed was about 20ish miles away, later became something like a Big Lots, which later on ended up closing up itself.

Well maybe I was wrong about the closing, but they have those yellow signs that says Inventory Clearance and 30% off all items (and no refunds, all sale final, they mark this in the receipt) leads me to think that this TRU is closing. Plus, it is a pretty crappy/rundown TRU.

I stopped in the Milford, CT TRU today and picked up:
Suikoden V (last one) for ~$10
Rayman Double Pack ~$7
Sega Classics Collection $3.70
Phoenix Wright $9.98
Nanostray $9.98
Tony Hawk's American Sk8land - Free =)

On the whole, I'm pretty happy with this.

Showed up to this clearance days late, since I've been so busy with my move, and got the last and only copy of Syphon Filter Dark Mirror for PSP - the only game I wanted.

It was in the glass case, no clearance stickers, guy told me "Man, I'm surprised we're finally selling it, it's been in the case since forever".

Score! He was kind of shocked when it was only $9.98.

Also, it was the only one in the store!!!

Theres a ton of Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney games at the TRU in Naperville, IL if anyone is still looking for it. Think I saw a guy there with a list in the DS aisle, maybe a fellow CAG.

My cashier guy was confused. I also saw it in the shelf but he couldnt see it for the life of him.
"5th shelf next to Surf's up"
*He pulls out Surfs up*
"No, to the right of it"
*Pulls out Splinter Cell*
"No, to the left of that"
*Pulls out Surfs Up again*.....

He finally got it though.

I also found some more Lumines I there, FFXI, Death Jr 2, and Me and My Katamari for 8.98. Not a bad haul.

Just found out about this today, and luckily found the three games I had my eyes on the most - NCAA Football 07 (XB), Lumines II, and Gunpey (PSP) - at the local TRU. Yay.

I picked up Tony Hawk Sk8land (ds) Tomb Raider (ds) and True Swing (ds).

I wonder how much field-testing TRU invested before discovering the absolute worse way of selling games, i.e. by throwing them all in a 4-foot deep bin.
