The old thread hadn't been updated in quite some time, so I decided to make a new one. If you happen to see a sale not listed in the OP, go ahead and post it and I will be sure it's added. The same goes for anything listed that has expired as most sales have no set time frame, let me know and I will remove expired sales. Thanks!

I would not recommend the $17 Moga Pocket unless you absolutely have no other choice. It's analog only with no real d-pad which makes controlling many retro games unwieldy. If you can afford an Nvidia Shield, get it. I'm enjoying Crazy Taxi, Final Fantasy III and Virtua Tennis on it at the moment.

Guardians of the Galaxy: The Universal Weapon on sale for $1.99, down from $4.99.

We’re celebrating Guardians Weekend with limited edition pricing! Get Guardians of the Galaxy: The Universal Weapon for $1.99 this weekend only, then go see Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy in theaters!NO IN-APP PURCHASES AND NO INTERNET CONNECTION REQUIRED TO PLAY

Amazon Really wants me to use up these coins with all this price matching they're doing, dont they?

Amazon's Free App of the Day today is Steve Jackson's Sorcery!

Basically, it's a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure game with RPG elements, based on a series of CYOA gamebooks that were popular in the UK. The sequel, Sorcery! 2, is also on the Appstore for $5.00 (500 coins), and it supports save data from the first game, so it might be worth checking out after finishing this one.

I've been playing this recently and I really like it. The only bad part is the combat, which would be way better if it was JRPG style or something. But playing a game in which you imagine most of the visuals is really cool.

This is a beautiful game. The CYOA books were only popular in the UK? I remember playing one called Lone Wolf. I think there's an Android game of that but it looks very action-y, something I do not want on Android.

So excited by this. I hope it doesn't take long for the dev's latest game, 80 Days, to make it to Android & the Appstore (those coins will expire some time...) Storybook+geography just sounds great.

Edit: oh, rymdkapsel is half off, $2. It's not even on Amazon, so no matching for coins.

There were likely some series of CYOA books that were popular in the US, but this one in particular is probably more well-known in the UK. Chances are, if you said Steve Jackson in the US, the first person to come to mind would be a different Steve Jackson.

I picked up Sorcerry. I've had my eye on it , but $5 was too high of a price for me.

When I think if Choose Your Own Adventure, I think of the books I got from the library in the 80s.

So what would be the best controller to get to work with a tablet? I've got a 10.1 note 2012 which still has great specs compared to a lot of stuff. I'm more interested in platformers and the like so I think something witha solid d pad is important but I don't know if most default to analog when created with controller input on android. I.E is d pad inmportant? What apps are important for configuring controller support?

Btw that inside UFO book is clearly subliminal advertising for cigarettes.

Personally I'd recommend a DS3 for the D-Pad, as well as the fact there are already apps to let you use it on Android. It would also work on PC, if you play any games on it (or see yourself possibly doing so in the future).

I'm in the same boat as Sweetja. If it's something like the Xbox or PS3 controller, I'm in.

And I refuse to root my tablet so I will not download an app that says I have to in order to use it.

Theoretically I could. I know cryogen makes 1 step rooting now for popular devices. Mine is old enough most bugs should be worked out. I just have a crapload of data on mine and it's a hassle to backup. I would rather avoid it.

Hrrmm reading that would suggest that for most apps that natively support a controller, that sixaxis app wouldn't be necessary. Unless I'm reading that wrong, but it seemed to say the controller popped up under the bt devices in his emulator.

I can't comment on that. But Mac OS X 10.6.x and later have native DS3 support and BT-pair like any other BT device. (With MiJ/BetterDS3 you pretty much need a dedicated BT dongle due to the way the driver works.)

Oh Ashes. I appreciate the help but Macs are a foreign entity to me. I even convinced the university to buy me a top of the line pc because I couldn't be bothered to print out a list of mac keyboard shortcuts. Well that and for some strange reason the one feature I needed on a pc software only existed in the windows version, despite it originating as mac software. I blame spend it or lose it budgets for the actual decision to spend the money though.

I've rooted Samsung phones without having to install a new ROM so in theory it should work for tablets but I'm not familiar witj all the models and never tried.

I still have my fire sale HP Touchpad, rooted with Android installed of course and after all this time I still haven't found a compelling reason to buy another tablet.

The Shield one looks nice but realistically I hardly play the old portable Shield.

Lol my work pc at the time begged to differ. God I love it when an it guy says just tell me what you want don't worry about a budget. Then asks are you going to be doing any work from home. Too bad I couldn't say yes to that.

Some have already been mention but consolidated so it is easier and not to miss something. Swiped from Androidpolice.com again.

Also Amazon has price matched Google Play:
Out There $1.99 from $3.99

*sigh* All the Kindle Fire tablet 'exclusives' (even when the same games were being sold on Google Play that worked perfectly well on other devices) were annoying enough, but now they are doing Gary Busey Box exclusives? Really Amazon?

I guess they think some little 8 bit pixel game is enough to sell their box because it's Flappy Bird.

I have a FireTV. It works really well, and if you already have Amazon PrimeTV  you can cut the cable and get by with just streaming.

(If you had Netflix or Hulu)

I think everyone and their brother has 6 devices at least that support Netflix. We'll probably be seeing toasters with Netlfix soon.

The main draw for me of the Fire TV is as a sort of Ouya alternative, but I want to kind of wait and see how it develops.

i seen a toaster somewhere that can stream netflix (no joke, freaking thing had a tv in it ) Price was insane though i think 200 or 300

So is Out There worth 199 coins? Looks pretty interesting.

I also have a Fire TV. I like it much better than the Roku 1 XS I never upgraded from. Looking forward to more games being released with Fire TV support (looking at you, Wayward Souls...).

Tony the Amazon rep seemed to like it. Of course he posted that on the pretty much dead (for on topic posts anyway) Amazon PC DD thread.

(Edit: sorry for the big ass font. I just noticed that. I posted from a phone originally)

I'm glad we've started talking about choose your own adventure books, my favorite one was the Himalayan Mountain one, I think you were looking for a hidden temple or something.

Also, obligatory relevant App mention. Has anyone played "Out There"? Definitely has a strong CYOA feel.

...

Cheers,

Tony

So Out There is finally on sale, after the "sale" Sticker had been placed on the logo days ago. Wow.... Wasnt it just on sale a couple weeks ago? I know we discussed getting it & I asked if it was like FTL or Star Command. EIther way, Im picking it up, I have the coins, I know I'll get more & I missed the sale last time around.

Out There is great.  It's a randomly generated space exploration game. Very difficult though, death comes quick and easy.

Probably the wrong place to ask, but does anyone have an Nvidia Shield? I've gotten TV out mode to work, but I can't get any volume even though I get video. Any thoughts?

The Nvidia Shield or the Nvidia Shield Tablet (that was released last week)? I got the latter over the weekend and have no issue with sound on my TV. Make sure the volume is not muted on the actual tablet.

Now that I've given them a chance Tyrant Unleashed and Cabals don't seem that bad. Maybe they will scratch that card game itch.

Deadman's Cross has really grown on me too.
