The old thread hadn't been updated in quite some time, so I decided to make a new one. If you happen to see a sale not listed in the OP, go ahead and post it and I will be sure it's added. The same goes for anything listed that has expired as most sales have no set time frame, let me know and I will remove expired sales. Thanks!

In addition to Google Play, Castle Doombad is on sale for .99 at Amazon, and they're giving away 30 free coins with purchase.

I used my $5 credit on this since I have everything else I want:

http://www.amazon.com/Crescent-Moon-Games-Mines-Mars/dp/B00IZTYOSW/

Seems like a promising game. Hopefully what Steamworld Dig tried to be. I passed on Terraria since I have it on Steam.
Mines of Mars is a procedural atmospheric mining game that is inspired by games like Metroid and Motherload.
You mean two games that I really like? Sold! Thanks for the heads-up Fox.

Just once I believe and it is/was a $5 app credit (expires end of July), not 500 coins.
App store credit IS 500 coins same as $5.

I was on my Kindle Fire immediately after getting my e-mail and I purchased a pinball table within Zen Pinball HD. I chose to PAY with my coins balance.

My coins balance remained the same after the transaction. The $5 credit (500 coins) is depleted first before it takes from your coins balance.

It's all detailed in the Digital Orders invoice.

Edit: My coins balance eventually went UP by 60 with the Bonus coins I received for the in-app purchase.

I didn't see any mention of the free credit in the descriptions so I didn't bother getting those game. Besides, I'm at 3100 coins so I'm in no hurry for more.

Juice el Savior, you can use credits to buy coins but you can't buy credit with coins. It only works the one way.

BTW, the Amazon app and the purchases download soooooooooo slow on my tablet compared to Google Play.  The only way to finish a download with Amazon is to go somewhere with free Wifi.

Any recommendations for a cheap (less than $100) kid-friendly tablet? Something that runs Amazon apps pretty well.

Actually need another kindle, but don't want to spend that much for something the kids are just going to play with and possibly destroy.

I can't for the life of me figure out how... I just tried to purchase coins and it never prompted me with payment options and I got an email stating that my card could not be charged...

Are you trying to buy coins through the app or the website?

Website: Typing "amazon coin" without the s brings it up on the first result. It's also hidden among links in any purchase page.

Amazon appstore: Touch the upper left corner and then tap "amazon coins".

BTW, Comixology is having a 20 days of free comic books promotion. Thanks, vicktor, for posting about it in the Free Comics thread:

http://comixology.tumblr.com/summerreading

It works on the app as well. However, you have to search for the book (the first one being Detective Comics 871) to find it for free.

I guess this promo credit hates me... I bought jet grind radio and it spent my last set of coins. Not that I'm complaining... I have gotten gta sa, ff4, jet grind radio, and terraria for free... amongst others...

Hopefully I can use that promo credit somehow

There isn't a way to combine coins and credit though is there?
I had a FREE coins balance -- and a $3 App Store credit when I bought GTA: SA so that I could get the 2000 coins bonus.

Here are the payment details of that particular Digital Order . . .

Item(s) Subtotal: 699 coins
Promotions: -300 coins
----
Total Before Tax: 399 coins
Tax Collected: 33 coins
----
Total for this Order: 432 coins
<<< I selected to PAY with COINS!!!!

YOU CAN COMBINE YOUR COINS BALANCE WITH YOUR $ APP STORE CREDIT!

My $3 app store credit came from the $0.99 Chopin: Piano Works (VoxBox) MP3 ALBUM and it was still working today as my brother got the same $3 earlier this evening.

He bought the MP3 album with the $1 MP3 credit he received for downloading/installing the Amazon App Store on his Android device.

Free App of the Day - Anka

Let me know how you like it. It's semi-recent and cool looking. I don't have a tablet yet, which is how I would probably prefer that game, but maybe I will get one soon.
I will. Tbh, I only have access to an Android device every so often (I need to get a tablet too) but the next time I do, I'll try it out.

Hisense sero pro. 75 bucks at newegg. Perfect 7 inch tablet for kids and adultw.
$75 isn't too bad. There's a lite version for $50. Wonder how that would work. All I really want it to do is just sort of be a backup kindle fire. So that other kids can play their apps on it while one kid is hogging the Fire for his video watching.

The lite version i $35 after rebate, but from what I've read, the Pro is the one to own because it has better hardware in it. Not really sure of the specs entirely, but if the lite was able to run most games I'd prefer to save money too.

I almost bought some sort of kid-friendly tablet at Fry's for $75 over Memorial day. The saleslady told me it had about a 50% return rate, so I left it there. I'll see how big my paycheck is after holiday pay for yesterday and then decide. If I could just get a regular kindle fire for under $100 that would be great too.

Warehouse deals has been posting old Kindle Fires, used with no warranty, for around $70ish for the 7 inch HD. If you don't mind taking a risk (and their return policy is pretty generous) that's the best place to go. Those are the with ads ones though.

So I'm seriously considering a tablet and have it down to a few choices:

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D02AGU4/sr=8-2/qid=1401225522/

Hisense Sero 7 Pro:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834738002&cm_re=hisense_sero-_-34-738-002-_-Product

Archos Gamepad:

Tuvva PowerPlay:

http://www.amazon.com/TUVVA-Power-Play-Gaming-Tablet/dp/B00GH5E9VI

Any thoughts on these?  The Samsung looks to be the most underpowered but is a trusted name/well reviewed.  Hisense I've heard nothing but good things about and has a Tegra 3, but I notice it seems to have charging issues/wifi issues on some units, which I guess wouldn't be an issue if I get a good one.  It only has a 30 day warranty on refurbs.

The last two are sort of gimmicky.  The Tuvva honestly just looks like a re-skinned version of the Archos, with a few more features, but it has more positive reviews.  I've had a Archos before (years ago before tablets were even a thing) and it ran into issues a year or two after purchase.

I know the Nvidia Shield is down to $200, but that's about twice I want to pay and the 5 inch screen is not appealing at all to me.

Get the Sero 7 Pro. The Samsung is well reviewed, because it is a quality tablet for browsing and non-gaming stuff, because it's... well, Samsung. Very underpowered. No comparison AT ALL to an ipad original mini. But I have actually played around with a Sero Pro, and it's much faster, so as long as you get a good one, you'll be set.

I have a Tab 3 I got for free from AT&T. It's aight, for free.

I have a Tab 3 7.0 and can not recommend it. It's my fist and only Android tablet and in comparison to my gen 4 iPad, it falls fairly short. For the size, I'd rather have a iPad mini with Retina. I mean the Tab does what a tablet needs to do (play games, surf the net, etc.) it's just that it does it slower and visually less appealing than some alternatives. I wouldn't own it were it not free.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'd been eyeing the Sero Pro 7 for months now so I went ahead and got it since this is the lowest I'd been able to catch it. I had $75 in rebate cards from my last system upgrade and will get the other $10 back in a rebate as well so not free, but at least already paid for. It has the best specs/features for the price and goes for twice as much new. Here's hoping I get a good one. I think the only thing I read somewhere was that it doesn't allow you to move apps to the SD card? It shouldn't be a issue I don't think. My phone is the same way, but it only has 2GB onboard memory so most of that will be freed up once I uninstall Simpson's Tapped Out.

I was looking at the Galaxy 3 Pro 8.4 that came out a couple months ago. I'll also be using it for work at times, but it seems like a great option if a little pricey (though I have almost enough Amazon credit to pay for it.)

Agreed.  It's come to the point where I'm more interested in productivity apps than these "runner" or "hidden picture" games that seem to keep appearing.

If there is an app that lets me text or call people through my tablet (especially for free), I'll be thrilled.

You can text people for free through Google voice.

There's Ring.To which you can get a free number with by registering through GrooveIP. Google Voice is superior for texting, but with the GrooveIP/Ring.To setup you can also make free VOIP calls to any US number. I recommend getting a free Google Voice number and using the GV app for texting and forwarding voice calls to the Ring.To number for free calling via GrooveIP.

The Hangouts iOS app added free calling months ago and Google announced it would be coming to Android as well, but so far they haven't and the date that the framework which allowed third party apps to take advantage was set to disappear has come and gone. Perhaps we'll get some news and maybe the updated app at Google IO which happens at the end of next month. When that happens I expect Hangouts will be the go to option for free voice and texting.

Any suggestions for a controller for the Nexus 7 (2013)? How's the PS3 controller? Or should I get something else?

Sorry for the double post and the lack of a link, but the Sero Pro 7 refurb from Newegg is now $79.99 with a $10 rebate... 5 bucks cheaper than the last deal they had.

DAMN IT! Well, I guess it's only $5, but still.

Edit:

Well it seems this thing qualifies for their Iron Egg price match guarantee, though they don't make it clear whether they match their own prices. Submitted a price match request anyways with hopes they give me the $5 so I can use it for something. Maybe a backlit keyboard for playing in the dark.

Double Edit:

And they just issued me a $5 GC for the difference. Sweet! Thanks for posting that ltrain23, otherwise I would have never known. $69.99 for a tablet like that is a steal!

I was before the TI calculator phase, but I still carried a HP 48G. The superior calculator.
RPN for life.
QFT.

The first thing I install on any Android device is Droid48. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.ab.x48

Scurvy Scallywags released on Android today. Free with IAP. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beepgames.scurvyscallywags

If you're a fan of Ron Gilbert, you've already got this installed.

My highest recommendation for the Amazon app store is the Wolfram Alpha app.  This is an incredible bit of software, really.  Use your coins for it.  It is just remarkable in its simplicity and usefulness.
