Animal Crossing: City Folk - Gen. Discussion and info

Turnips are 246 this morning - if anyone wants in, let me know. I plan on watching the Winter Classic, but I'll gladly open up my gates in the meantime :)

Want an increase in rare items? Come to Avocado - my town - and plant one flower. How simple is that? :D

If anyone wants to drop by later on, you're more than welcome. All I ask in return is that, if you do get something cool (and rare) later in the month, you let me know so I can swing by and purchase it for myself. Also, if you've got any extras of the Nintendo-themed items (or space-themed, to satisfy my nerdy, aerospace engineering major side), I haven't found any yet, so I'd love a few donations. ;)

I'm going to try to send my Wii in for repairs tomorrow. I'm not sure how long it will be gone. Probably a couple of weeks :cry:

I found the limit of the friends list: 32, so had to pair it down and took out some older ones I had from the OP and tried to put in everyone who seems to be interacting here recently. Soon I'm going to have to reduce it by at least one more as well, so get me added soon to save your spot! :^)

Well, you don't really have much to worry about considering that so far I've only got two people on my list who added me, one of which isn't in the OP, Paul, who I visited last night - thanks Paul! - and FILLER 2001. I also saw Romeo/oemor there - thanks for the handy hygiene advice on the way out, but please add me! Somebody else was there too who I'm forgetting.... Actually it was my 12 year-old nephew at the controls most of the time, though I was directing him somewhat.

turnips are 120. Hope someone comes close to beating knox this weekend.

I think the "rare items" charm means spotlight items at Nook's. I did one of those last month.

These are the different charms I've figured out so far:

"rare items" - spotlight @ Nook's (it might also be gyroid related, but I think it's spotlight items)
"lost items" - Mario items from every balloon you pop
"ancient rewards" - 5 fossils instead of 3
"protection from swarms that fall from trees" - no bees

Even though town charms are good for the the whole month, the effects only last about a day after you do them, so you have to go back to the town to do them again.

5 fossils? I thought I read that AC:CF doesn't have a predetermined amount of fossils each day?

I kind of miss that, as it was much easier to do all my "chores" for the day.
 
I've always found 3 per day. Sometimes some are hard to find like when they put them in places I don't normally walk like behind the town hall.
 
i most definitely always find 3 a day & if you don't find it that day the fossil will be in the same spot till you find it

lilboo do you hit up on the d pad to look up? helps sometimes when fossils are hiding behind stuff
 
I do! I have found shit hidden behind trees and houses before.. but sometimes I just can't seem to find more then 1! :lol:

I'll add you guys, but of course it means 2 others have to go. The problem is I think I got rid of all the non-hearts earlier... So now it's just people who don't seem to play any more, which is harder to determine.

As for the shirt thing on New Years, is that new? I've never heard of that one. If that is a carry-over from the last games then, well, I guess that's what is kind of cool about this game - you keep finding out about new events even after playing for so long.

So, weird thing on New Years Eve. As I was running around doing some cleaning and getting extra poppers, I kept seeing huge river fish. Ended up catching a pike and TWO stringfish! They also seemed way easier to catch that I remember from the GC game - nothing like the Coelacanth.

The Brawl disc reading error problem took me a week or so to get back a few months ago

Yeah - that was awesome - thanks Knoxx and Romeo for all that fruit, and damn, even a pinball machine. Wow. At some point I'll make it up to you guys. Of course I got back to my town and realized I'd mailed my shovel to my son, since I'd just gotten it and we only had one, so I had no shovel to dig up the tree stumps for the fruit planting. Oops. Hopefully Tom's got another one tomorrow, otherwise my son will have one in his mail.

Yeah, they seem to be pretty quick with repairs. It's super bubble wrapped and taped all around. Ready to go in the mail tomorrow.

Did you get the arcade machine I sent you? I wasn't sure if you had that one yet. It used to be in Harry's house, so wash your hands after playing with it :lol:

Maybe...I'm on COX also, so that's comforting to know that it was prolly the source, not my router/setup. I think Romeo left the King Tut masks.

I haven't figured out what game is in my cocktail cab...or even if it IS a real game. No clue.
 
Did anyone get Japan's newest DLC item yet?

The "spinning top" (or just "top") was released on 1/1/09.

Looks like it can be ordered from the catalog too, from what I've read. I don't have one. Just wondering if anyone else does have one.

Gothic, Majora's Mask can be obtained via Tom Nook's point system. It's something like 5,000 points though.

Yeah, I hate how my list has filled up so fast. This is crap. I thought Brawl's 64 slots was bad but both Mario Kart and Animal Crossing's lists are a joke. I can't really add anyone else since I already have everyone cross registered on my list. I can't imagine it takes up that much space to store one friend code. I hate to beat a dead horse by complaining about Nintendo's online implementations, but Nintendo likes to keep pouring salt into the wounds by making absolutely no improvements whatsoever.

Today was a good day - I paid off my second mortgage (the 120,000 bell one), and found a green pipe floating by on a balloon. :D

How many of you guys use the mic? I haven't set it up yet (mostly because I don't want anyone to hear my idiot family talking baby talk to our dogs), but probably will when I'm back up at college. Does the mic capture everything, or is it a press-to-talk setup?
 
We have WiiSpeak but haven't really been able to use it yet - nobody on the other end has had it. We can speak to them, but one way like that isn't satisfying. There is no push-to-talk - it is either on or off and that's it, at least in AC. Note, though, that you can tell if it is in use because a light glows on it when so. If everybody else has voice chat turned off the light won't glow and then it isn't sending sound.

I'd love to try out two way use some time. Just let me know when.
 
Mic is definitely a "pick up everything all the time" deal - just ask any CAGs who have played when my kids were around ;). I've had it muted on my last few sessions though. It is a nice feature, though, as crunhewy pointed out, that the light goes off when the other players are all muted. At least you know no one else is listening at that point.

And just to be clear, you can turn it off and on pretty easily - but you do have to go into the friend menu to do so. It isn't too hard - when the kids started fighting or whining or something I'd jump in there as quick as possible and mute...
