 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

I do not regret a single dollar of the money I spent buying Fairy Tail Parts 1-11.

Sadly it looks like Right Stuf is going to have a summer sale starting tomorrow. I was hoping for a decent studio sale to cross over with the Sentai one. I guess it's time to see which shows make the cut.
Am guessing it's going to the usual summer sale where everything in stock is 32%,but they usual kill the deal by marking stuff up.

Any opinions on Jormungand and Shana? I know Shana has a gazillion seasons and extra crap while I've heard little to nothing about Jormungand.

Her name is koko and she is loco I said OH NO....

Overall I found Jormungand to be a decent series. It's a decent action series, and the plot isn't terrible... plus the two seasons seem to cover most of the manga (including ending at the end of the manga) so there is at least that.

I personally prefer black lagoon, but if you liked black lagoon there is a good chance you will like Jormungand.

As for shana.... I need to try to watch it again... I have tried 3 times and gotten distracted 3 times lol... it's not that I find it bad, just nothing about the first 5 eps or so really draws me in.

either way my recommendation is watch some of it, I believe you can watch some of it on funimation's site, and at the very least you can watch it as an elite member which you can sign up for a free trail of (make sure to cancel and turn off auto renew though)

The first two episodes of Shana are really good, but then it starts getting more and more awkward as her and the male protagonist start falling in love.

Oh, and a lot of the villains are creepy. Not visually disturbing, but their actions and mannerisms have an odd, sexual undertone.

I still ended up watching it and enjoying it enough that I'd watch the next season (though I've yet to buy it), but it's just weird in that way.

I hope there's some good acquisition announcements at AX this weekend aside from Aniplex announcing they got SAO 2... Maybe they'll reveal what the Sailor Moon Blu-rays will look like. I really want Escaflowne on Blu to come out. It's one of my favorite series. Oh and heck, how about a Bebop update?

First season of Shana is good. Second season is an alright romantic comedy. Third season is a cluster fuck of characters taking turns repeating really long names.

Shana is good. Only 3 seasons, so not like Bleach or Naruto-long. Jormungand is good, but not Black Lagoon good. Would wait for the two parts to be combined and offered for like $30.

I watched both and they were ok. Struggle to be interested in buying DVDs over Blu-ray.

Hello, opinions on Ranma 1/2? I know its considered a classic but I never got around to seeing it so I'm a little tempted to pick up the blus at Right Stuff since its at $36.00 a set after the coupon. Ive seen a few episodes on Hulu and like it so far but I just want to see who here recommends it and why. Also, is the ending as bad as ive read on some places that it is? Thanks

If you like episodic comedies, you will love Ranma (except maybe some Seasonal Rot near the end). Ranma is no closer to finding a cure or solving his Love Docahedron in the final episode than he is in the first.

If you want actual story progression...pick somebody other than Rumiko Takahashi.

Just going off Inuyasha she seems to really like dragging shit for a long as she possibly can. I am giving Ranma a chance since that seems more comedy based.

I've really liked what I've seen so far, picked up the first two sets on a blind buy. Good mix of comedy and action.

I can't believe they price adjusted something listed as "more arriving soon." That wouldn't qualify for the current sale.
True, but in my Orders section it says "Reserved For Your Order" so technically speaking it is in-stock for me lol. Too bad it didn't say that for Toradora!.

I ended up picking up Gunbuster vs. Diebuster: Aim for the Top! GATTAI!! for $60. I've been meaning to pick it up and seeing the counter on it finally pushed me to it.

Does anyone remember the price of Bunny Drop pre-sale?
I want to say $54ish

I enjoy the first 3-4 seasons but after that it just starts feeling to samey...

oh look it's the same plot that was used there they just replaced Group A with Group B but are running basically the same exact story...

to eventually where it feels like they have only 4-5 formulas that they use replacing minor details and just copy and pasting over and over again... I am not sure how the manga actually is, but i have a feeling it might just be poorly done filler stuff that really drags the series down after season 3 or 4.

on the plus side it's so episodic that you can basically drop it at any given point and have as satisfying of an ending as you will get :p

Well, she DOES like making long series (she has 4 manga series with over 40 volumes, I actually think InuYasha is the shortest of the four), but InuYasha is the first time she tried a straight-up action series. As such, she ended up keeping a lot of her comedy staples (static cast being one of the bigger ones) when they didn't fit.

I think InuYasha's biggest problem was keeping Nataku front and center the whole time. If she had "killed" Naraku back when Kagome first showed off her power and then brought him back at the end, the story would have been a lot better.

Anyway, as for Ranma, think of it like the Japanese equivalent of The Flintstones or The Simpsons or an early 90's sitcom.

Well then, heck with it.  I went ahead and picked up Bunny Drop for $49 ($44) and both parts of Wagnaria for $76.  Usually the in-stock sales are best suited to buying NIS titles.

Also, for everyone that didn't buy it up in a panic when it went oos, you could save another $5 on Ground Control to Psychoelectric Girl.

Yeah, I was all into InuYasha when I was a teenager. And I've seen the sets for sale @ $13 on several occasions but I could never buy them for this very reason. I've never finished it but I read last chapters of the manga and just thought "welp, that could've been done a hell of a lot sooner."

Indeed.

I grabbed the Nyaruko PE, and finally cracked, and picked up KamisamaKiss Goddess bundle since it's on the weekly sale list, and it's eligible with the code, so why not. :p

The first three InuYasha sets are totally worth owning, as they move at a nice pace and they're fairly entertaining. One of the best anime soundtracks ever, too. After that, things sorta peter out, and there's little plot progression until the very end. But yeah, the first 70-ish episodes are surprisingly good - $13 per set is a steal.

The show is good if you have a half or hour to kill, but it's not a show that I would say is worth owning. It's good for like 30 episodes and then it really starts to became repetitive as all hell. Also was it really necessary to Inuyasha and Kagome yell each other's name every 5 seconds?
