Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

Mmm catching up on ANN unveiled some awesome news again. RE: Zero is finally getting a BD release by Funi. Too bad it's the usual season 1 part 1 nonsense, but eventually we'll get a compilation. Maybe when the next season comes out. Moar SAO anime coming out, doesn't seem like there's a date yet. Yay!
I understand it can be frustrating to only get half of it at a time, but it's still way better than in the past when a 26 episode series would be broken into 6-7 disks and those would all be like 2 months apart.

plus from a business standpoint it just makes way more sense to release it in two parts to start with. You have a much easier time getting someone to pay $50 twice months apart than you do to get someone to pay $100 in one go.

I am just happy they confirmed it in general. Now they just need to confirm Konosuba.

Oh I get the business rationale, that all makes sense, but I hate it as a consumer. Didn't realize Konosuba didn't have a release either, I want that too.

Just finished watching the latest Black Clover and Overlord. Both good episodes, Black Clover is finally starting to pick up some steam. Been enjoying the show minus the annoying screaming. Don't like how the shows are artificially shortened by always having this dumb intro/outro thing. Overlord is still good, but I sincerely hope they are expecting to do another 12-13 episodes after this. I love the character development, but with such few episodes this season I'm perpetually concerned.

Edit: Oh also, I genuinely hope they wrap up the World God Only Knows. Just re-watched that and it's so good! Has an amazing amount of depth for the premise.

sadly the odds to wrap up the world god only knows is even lower than something like the devil is a part timer getting a second season which is already almost zero.

Wold god only knows has three major strikes against it.

1. It's finished and finished more than a year ago (anime is created to sell things, dead series rarely are a point of interest for that)

2. It wasn't super popular (I like it, but it never did amazingly anywhere)

3. The anime studio that was making the series is DEAD... DEAD DEAD DEAD :( so who knows if another studio would want to take on their work knowing their might be some loyality to them, or if another studio even could.... I mean it's not beyond the realm of possibility that they bought the anime rights for the whole series for an extended period of time, and they could be floating in limbo until they expire :/

You have to read the manga after the last season. I wish it got animated.

Best gurl won at the end though.
Yeah I read the manga after the anime ended, which is why I want it animated. It's fantastic. Might go off and read it again actually...

I need to catch up with Black Clover. I'm 5 episodes behind. But I did watch some Overlord last night. Can't wait to see my boy Sebas kick a little ass.

yup... it's really a shame the series actually got good when it figured out it should remove... was it ellie (starting reaper girl) from the story around the goddess arc and remained good to the end. such a shame that we won't get more.

So I watched the first 5 episodes of Death March to a Parallel World. It's your typical trapped in another world anime.

Over powered MC, check

Almost instant harem, check

Most generic looking MC, check

With that said I like it. There's something about these shows that I like. I guess maybe the fact I don't have to worry about about anything. The MC has got everything in check. But an 11 year tried to get it on with him. Ewwwwww Also I don't like that they felt he needed to be de-aged to a high schooler. Keeping him 29 would've been a welcome change to these shows.

I heard bad things about that show so I whole-sale ignored it. Sounds like it's the usual vapid nonsense isekai. Grancrest War is still a firm "meh", which was reinforced by today's episode. The plot is so weak that they have to come up with illogical situations to push forward. I think this season of anime is telling when I'm finding myself watching episodes of older series I enjoy more than just about anything this season. Next season should be amazing with the quantity of amazing follow-ups we should be getting. One month til awesomeness.

If funimation wasn't dubbing a bunch of shows I don't think I would still be watching much from this season.

instead I am watching violet evergarden (netflix dub but still :p)

citrus (I really don't know why)

the teasing show

overlord (it's an odd season so far)

death march (this isn't very good)

candy show season 2

draling in the franxx

and of those the ones I would still be watching if there weren't dubs.

yup :p

I am still watching super and magus bride, but magus bride is more because I am watching it with someone else.

I really should catch up with detective conan.

I enjoyed what I watched of Death March. I'll caulk it up as a guilty pleasure I guess.

I did catch up with Black Clover. I switched over to the dub and my lord Asta is sooo much better.

Is it a simuldub? I'd switch to listening to that too lol

Today I learned that this is apparently a terrible time to try and watch anything on Crunchyroll.
Yeah basically sometime around 10-11pm EST, Crunchyroll becomes a disaster. I guess that's when west coasters or some other time zone jump on to watch DB Super. I usually catch it around 8:30 or 9pm and everything is fine. An hour or two later and I'm on VRV lol

So I've decided that outside of Tuesday and Saturday, I can pretty much skip the anime that comes out on all the other days. That's how weak this season has been. I dropped Boruto because it was just boring. Lots of "more of the same" and I just am not up for that again. Surprised the author decided to keep doing that. Yowamushi Pedal I dropped a while back because....well, it's just not that exciting. First time sure, second time? Meh.

Next season? We get:

* ReLife finale

* Full Metal Panic (finally!)

* SAO: GGO Spin-off

* Steins;Gate 0 (who knows, but it's Steins;Gate, has potential)

* My Hero Academia

* Food Wars

Depending on your interests, these may or may not excite you as well:

* High School DxD

* Amanchu

* Persona 5

* Tokyo Ghoul Re:

* Some kind of Fist of the North Star sequel/spin-off?

So yeah, I'm quite pumped for next season. May be more anime coming that hasn't announced yet, but this is all gold for me. ReLife, Food Wars, and FMP are probably the top 3 for me to watch.

I remember I loved ReLife but totally forgot most of the story since I binged it very quickly. All I remember is a 30 year old something going back to high school along with his younger body.

My Hero & Food Porn are my most anticipated since I know I'll love them. I'll check out most of the rest. SAO, Stirns Gate and Amachu are shows that'll be in my que for sure.

For some reason I can't get into a Persona anime. I tried with P4 and the P3 movies, but I guess since I played 100+ hours of the games I didn't need to watch a show about it.

I haven't played any of the Persona (but I own Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 I think lol), but I enjoyed the Persona 4 anime. The OP/ED had great music, so partly looking forward to that in P5.

Now that I think about it I did watch the first P4 anime, but didn't make it past the 2nd episode of Golden. It just got redundant. I agree the OP/ED were really nice.

P4 Golden the Animation is trash whenever the anime tried to shoehorn Marie into every important Character Event.

The final straw for me was when they had Marie stand in for Rise at the School Festival.

I rarely look ahead, because I don't follow licensing and such, but I did pop over to MAL and look at the Spring 2018 list. In addition to the stuff you mentioned, I was happy to see season 2 of Hozuki's Coolheadedness on the list. I'm also curious about Shiyan Pin Jiating, and Hisone to Maso-tan. So hopefully somebody picks those up (if not already).

As for FotBS, after seeing the preview it will sadly be a hard pass for me. I tolerated the animation style for Berserk because I was hungry for more of that show. I have no such connection with Fist of the Blue Sky.

despite liking soma in general I will likely skip the next season of it... the manga at this point did nothing but make me mad at how stupid and badly done the writing was :p

I haven't read the maga so I don't know, but any chance they could *tweak* it or maybe leave parts out? From what I understand they left some Shokugeki's out of the anime.

They could likely cut everything aside from like one thing and just move onto the current focused arc but they won't lol.

to be fair as far as I could tell people didn't mind the other side trying to cheat their way through matches in the last anime season, and that drove me nuts while reading the manga.

the cheating stuff works alright in a pure comedy like yakitate japan but in soma it just is a chore to go through for me.

I really like School Babysitters. It's just charming as hell. Sometimes they capture the kids reactions so well. I guess being a dad makes it that much more relatable.

Are you watching this one starkillr?

Nope, not a dad, so my impression of this was "stay away, reminds you of married friends who just talk about their kids" :p I did forget to mention that the 7 Deadly Sins new season was also worth watching this season. I'm feeling down though as I haven't had my infusion of DB Super since it's been delayed.

Yeah, that DB Super and One Piece missing this week had me itching for some shonen. Damn I love Super.

And I try not to be one of those parents. I only talk about parent stuff with other parents because I know you single guys get exhausted on the topic quickly. But School Babysitters is quite charming. I was actually laughing at some parts because the kids reactions are pretty accurate.

And I just beat Xenoblade Chronicles 2 so I can catch up on some Japanimation now.

Nice, I still haven't finished Xenoblade Chronicles 1 :(

XBC2 took me 180 hours and I did almost everything except leveling up all the characters to max. I was going to hold out I had enough and just wanted to finish it. Good game. Doing missions and side quests can be a slog. And the fighting system took me until the end to 100% completely understand it.

Back on topic. I got a couple episodes of Overlord, Place Farthest from the Universe, March Lion and Black Clover to catch up with.

Yeah I'd rather not talk about my horrifically large back log of gaming. Mobile gaming has sucked up all my free time >.< Kind of an interesting episode of Overlord today. Still annoyed that we have 3 episodes left until we either get an immediate follow up or multi-year wait :(

Way behind on my anime this season. I only officially dropped the whoever loves ramen anime (just didn't like it for 2 episodes or so I saw). Only caught up with Dagashi Kashi S2 (good enough but recent episodes have been forgettable) and Junji Ito (Love his stories but these are a huge hit and miss). Pretty much caught up with teasing anime (later episodes are nice). I will likely see some Darling and Death March (bored with Isekei light novels/anime though). Not an amazing season but OK so far.

I'm getting caught up too

Black Clover - It's okay. The animation has been horrible but the story well enough to keep me around

Laid Back Camp - Still charming. Nothing exciting but if you like shows like Sakura Quest, New Game or Shirobako then you'll like this.

School Babysitter - One of my favorite this season. It's funny and it's a nice show to watch after a stressful day.

A Place Further than the Universe - Kinda like Laid Back Camp, it's a charming show and you can learn some stuff about Antartica too.

Overlord - I wasn't 100% sold on the season at first but it's picked up and I'm liking it very much now.

March Comes in Like a Lion - This is a really hard one to recommend since it's not the most exciting show, but by golly is it a joy to watch. Great character development and I love the art style.

Darling in the Franxx - I need to catch up with this one. Only 3 episodes in. I like it but I just need some time.

One Piece, DB Super & Gintama are there too. But I don't think I need to recommend these to anyone. You either love em' or hate em.'

This last episode of Overlord was f-ing awesome btw. Loooooooooooved it. I am crying inside about there being only 2 episodes left.

The lat arc with Sebas and the human trafficking was intense. I don't remember this show being so graphic. But nothings gonna top Ainz Ooal peeping on lizard sex. Shame

In case folks haven't noticed, the finale for ReLife is on Crunchyroll.
Yes, I saw this was up. Plan on watching it soon.

EDIT: And I realized I never watched the OVAs so I got some catching up to do.

Same with the Mob Psycho 100 OVA. I was going to watch it last night but realized it's 100 minutes long. I thought it was a normal episode. I need more time with it.

Also watching Sevant x Service. It's been on my backlog for soooo long. I don't know why I didn't pick this up sooner. This reminds me so much of Working!!!
