Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

Anyone watched Penguin Highway?  I bought it but I'm hesitant to open it because of some of the weird material in the movie. (a kid grabs another kid's balls to win a fight) What's everyone who's seen it's opinions?

It's a great movie.

Are you saying you don't think its possible for someone to nut tap another dude to run away? Also, some Japanese kids do the Thousand Years of Death on each other.

Sounds right. I teach my kids to do the same if they're legitimately in trouble.

I was more wary about the kid's scientific fascination with his dentist's breasts, but I thought it was handled well.

The show is fun and well done, but about ten minutes longer than it needs to be. The third act is incredibly fun.

Dental assistant was lowkey awesome. Gave no fucks and called the boy out all the time lol

Has anyone been watching Kanata no Astra? This show is awesome lol. Not like, S tier awesome, but a solid B+. Nice couple of twists they threw in just now. Good way of mixing it up.

I know it's on Funimation now, I need to watch it, it looks entertaining. Too bad the stupid ass funimation app is a constant disappointment on ps4. (grumble grumble have like 10 shows on there I want to watch but can't grumble grumble)

Yeah it is. F*ckin thing sucks. I recently dropped it myself. But the only reason I was keeping it around was for Black Clover dubs and the occasional Dragon Ball episode.

Well, I want to get caught up on the One Piece dub, start watching the lost in space anime, watch fairy tail, and I forget the other one.

There's also Cop Craft, which is interesting/entertaining. Again, nothing spectacular, but worth watching. Lord Melloi Case Files has been very good too, esp. if you are a Fate fan.

I gotta say thanks for the Astra Lost in Space rec. I started watching and caught up in 2 nights. Really good show.

Started watching Cannon Busters on Netflix. The show is okay, but the OP is one of the catchiest tunes I've heard in a while. I can't get it out of my head. Been humming it for days now.

Has anyone looked ahead to the upcoming season? Holy shit is it amazing. So many continuations of strong franchises coming up. We have:

  • Psycho-Pass 3
  • 7 Deadly Sins S3?
  • MHA S4
  • Food Wars S4
  • SAO: Alicization 2nd half
  • Chihayafuru S3
  • High Score Girl
Some personal interests:

  • Fate/Grand Order Babylonia
  • Fairy Gone 2nd half
Also there are some random series sprinkled in that look like they could be interesting. Definitely won't be bored this fall....

Yep, for me personally there's a ton of shows I'm looking forward to including several you mentioned. Can't wait for more Food Porn, it's been too long. Plus there's always 2 or 3 shows that I know nothing about but end up enjoying.

But I probably wait till Netflix get High Score Girl. That was one of my favorite shows as it really bring me back to the glory days of arcades.

I'm really looking forward to Isekai Quartet, OPM S2, AoT S3, Gundam Origin series, and 7 Seeds that are late April or later in the season. There seem to be a lot of near porn type shows this season (relative to the usual), so if that's your thing, you can go watch those too. Let me know if any of you have seen the above or tried other shows and liked them!

Edit: Also, there seems to be an isekai type show that has a pretty garbage rating. Kono Yo no Hate de Koi o Utau Shoujo Yu-no. fuck that's a long name...I'm a sucker for isekai shows. I may also check out RobiHachi.

I've read 7 Seeds and while the art is not good the story draws you in. I was sad when it ended. I need more stories. I'm going to watch pretty soon the anime. I'm excited Tower of god is getting animated! can't wait for it!! it's about time!

The Yu-No show is absolute, utter garbage. I wouldn't watch it.

Yeah I think this season Kanata no Astra is the hidden gem. Looking forward to the last episode next week. Hopefully it has a great ending.

I'm a couple episodes behind. I think I'll let it finish then binge the rest next week.

Caught up with Vinland Saga. That's another great show this season.

Woo Hoo Food Porn is back. I think I'll wait a couple weeks then watch a few episodes of delicious anime food that causes exploding clothes.

Both the first and second episodes of Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE have been uploaded to the GundamInfo YT page.

I watched the first episode a few night ago on CR. I usually love the Gundam Build series but the first episode didn't do much for me. I keep watching but I have to admit I'm a little disappointed since I didn't care for any of the main characters or their Gundams.

First episode of the second arc of SAO was great. Looking forward to this one! MHA was basically a re-cap episode. ZZZzzzzzzzzzzz.

Yeah I watched both episodes and pretty much felt the same way. I completely missed the original Build Divers and wanted to give this a chance. It seems like they're really trying to tie it to the mobile game that just came out too. I didn't really care for any of the main characters either, but I liked the new Core Gundam enough. And Justice Knight Gundam is just a complete rip-off of Gallantmon from Digimon S3 IMO.

I'm glad I stuck with Black Clover. It's been a while since I've had such a strong pull to see the next episode of an anime in a while. I guess not since Shield Hero. Has anyone been watching anything this season they've really liked? Outside of the continuation series (of which there are many), I've been watching:

  • Babylon - something of a modern day mystery so far with a bit of a sci-fi quirk to it I think...or perhaps it's supposed to be a horror quirk, can't tell. Either way, fairly intriguing so far
  • PSO 2 - Nothing special so far...entertaining but I wouldn't recommend
  • Ahiru no Sora - Entertaining so far, not sure I would recommend yet, but probably worth a watch to kill time
  • Ascendance of a Bookworm - This has been pretty fun to watch and entertaining. It's pretty light and would recommend for an easy watch
  • Assassin's Pride (AssPride? lol) - This show is kind of derivative and dumb, it's not breaking any new ground. They have a Kirito clone with some loli-girl. It's a time waster so far, but nothing special.
  • Legend of the Galactic Hero - I know this is a continuation, but I really like this show. Sentai had some insane price for the old one, but I will happily spend my money instead on what will undoubtedly be a cheaper and higher quality (i.e. blu-ray vs story) version of that show when it ultimately comes out for this new version. If you haven't been watching this you should
  • Dr. Stone - The hyped show. It's good and worth watching
  • Fire Force - The art style is 100% Soul Eater. Presume this was done by the same mangaka. Either way, this show is good and worth watching
  • Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun - This show is a nice, very light comedy show. I've been looking forward to it on Saturday each week it's been out
  • FGO Babylonia - Rehash of the Babylonia arc from the mobile game. For some odd reason, this came out prior to the Camelot arc, which starts before this one. Kind of gives away a big spoiler in doing so. All they care about is $$$ instead of the creative integrity of the Fate universe. Watch it if you like Fate, it should end up being good. That being said I'm going to call out something from last season...
  • Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files - This show is awesome and from last season. If you enjoy the Fate universe, this is outstandingly well done. It would help to have watched Fate Zero before this, but not necessary. I'm more excited about a continuation to this anime than either of the FGO ones

Thanks for the write up. I would add a couple to my list but it's kinda full at the moment. But I'll go a head with my watchlist and impressions so far.

One Piece, My Hero Acdemia, Dr. Stone, Food Porn & Vinland Saga are still some of my favorites. I look forward to these every week.

  • Sword Art Online - It's been okay so far. I usually save this until there's nothing else on. It's fine, but I certainly don't look forward to it like the other continuations. The normal world element of the show is boring as hell, and that was a huge part of the last episode. Snorefest

  • Fire Force - I really liked this but I'm far behind. Saving to binge this one night. I'm still not done with summer's season.

  • Gundam Build Drivers - Only watched the first episode and I didn't care for it much. I may give it a chance later on. Not sure yet.

  • We Never Learn - I'm only a few episodes in and it's been fun but I noticed a lot more fan service this go around. I hope they get away from that a little more.

  • Are you the only one who loves me - This started out as a fairly straight forward rom/com but some stuff happens early on which changes the tone to become a bit more serious. I really like this show so far and loved how the mood changed. I would at least recommend watching the first 3 or 4 episodes if you're at all interested.

  • Welcome to School Iruma-kun - This was a pleasant surprise. This got me hooked by episode one and episode 3 is rather charming. It's stupid fun, but I need that every so often.

  • Didn't I say to make my abilities average in the next life? - (I'm really tried of the long ass names) - Not sure about this one yet. Only 2 episodes in and it can go either way. I'll stick with it for now

  • Ascendance of a Bookworm - I started watching this thinking I wouldn't like it but it hooked by the end of the first episode. It's charming and I'll stick with it.

Still haven't seen Chihayafuru yet. Thinking about binging this one. Also been watching Orange Road on occasion. I usually keep a couple older anime in my que. I'm 24 episodes in and it's been a nice chill show to watch after a stressful day.

As far as this season goes, I'm only watching Chihayafuru 3 and Psycho Pass 3. Nothing else has really caught my interest.

Last season I enjoyed Is it Wrong to Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon S2 and Demon Slayer. I was watching but dropped Fire Force because the fan service "joke" involving one of the characters just got old.

Hey guys, Havent been on for a while now. But i thought of something really fun and thought i might try it here.

What you do, is try and guess which anime/manga the

I recommend Chihayafuru, it has two seasons before this one, but I really love that show. Was very excited when this season came out and for some reason we got a double-header of episodes 2 and 3 yesterday. Looking forward to it! For Psycho Pass 3, I had to go back and watch the end of Psycho Pass 2 because I was thoroughly confused. With respect to Fire Force and that particular fan service, yeah, it's annoying. It legit detracts from the tone of the show and overall serious theme it has. However, the show is still pretty good and it hasn't gone too overboard yet on that aspect.

I actually enjoy it but this seasons been okay. Some parts in episode 2 dragged. I'm a few episodes behind, has it been picking up with the last couple episodes?
Are you watching from the very beginning of this arc or are you watching the new arc? Cuz the new arc is pretty much stuff happening every episode. Last one was pretty epic.

I'm keeping up so I'm on the current arc but only 2 episodes in. The real world stuff with the turtle island and Asuna was boring to me.

Ah, well, they kind of have to cover what's happening on the turtle for you to understand what happens "in game". It's not the most exciting part, this is true, but provides valuable context. I'm thinking the next episode will be quite epic. Probably worth catching up on when you have time to kill. Also the ED song is dope.

Holy crap....Babylon is DAAAAAAARK. I'm not entirely sure where they are going with all this either........that's probably what makes it so painful to watch. Dark plots for the sake of being dark aren't good -_-. I'll watch the next few and see where it starts to lead...but if this is School Days then it's poop.

I started watching Dragon Ball Z from the beginning even though I know the outcome of every fight, but I haven't seen the whole series yet. I did read the entire manga once, but that was a long time ago. I'm at the part where Goku and Frieza are about to throw down right after Vegeta told the story of the Saiyans.

I love the tension and build up in the show, even if in the uncut version Sean Schemmel kinda sounds like a terrible voice actor sometimes lol.

Like when Vegeta kills someone and Goku goes "heeey, stahp iiit."

Lol.
