Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

I want these to be actual real things so badly you have no idea: http://kotaku.com/pokemon-vs-gundam-1776188632

I could get behind a halfway decent Voltron series.

Actually, I'm getting flashbacks to the 2002 He-Man series.  Where watching the 80's version as an adult made me cringe, but putting a bit more mature writing/acting into the show made it rather enjoyable.

So I'm watching the latest episode of Ushio and Tora. I don't understand why they allow 180 degree personality flips that are completely illogical just to drum up drama in a show. Was pretty entertained by this season up until now -_-

Clannad isn't going to turn into another School Days is it? I hated School Days.

I'm not into Pokemon but that Dom Venasaur looks cool. Not sure what Gundams the Charizard and Blastoise are modled after.

I'm torn. Do I watch JoJo or play Uncharted tonight?

I never watched school days, but I will warn that some people choose to end clannad after story like 2 eps before the end. but I don't think it is like school days as if I recall school days
everyone is just randomly murdered.
I at least know it involved a nice boat :p

School Days Spoilers

Only 2 characters I recall die. The last 2 episodes take a dark/ scandlious turn. And yes, the ending is quite shocking, but that doesn't mean it's any good.

No, Clannad is nowhere near the dark, blood-stained turd that was School Days.

Charizard is modeled after one of the Veigan MS from Gundam AGE while Blastoise is the Guision's first design from Iron-Blooded Orphans

Last episode of RE: Zero was great. A lot more depth to the plot now. Can't wait for next episode.
Good to know. I plan to watch it tonight.

Last night I watched a few episodes:

JoJo ep. 6-7 - This series is getting very unique with the stands. Very different than Stardust

Tanaka-Kun ep. 5-6 - Why do like this so much?

Kanebari ep. 4-5 - What the hell is Mei doing? Still good episodes.

Finished brotherhood. I still prefer the 1st series. Brotherhood did make more sense (but that could be due to me already seeing the 1st series) and have a "better" ending though.

spoilers:

I wish mustang was still blind and the fuhrer at the end. Instead he got his sight back and grew a molester mustache.

I would have killed Selim (but maybe they wanted to leave it open for a movie/ova).

Pretty obvious that's she's having some mental issues that's making her act rash. It's clearly setup in episode 5 (not sure why so many people are missing that).

Whoever her brother is and whatever her history is, she was shaken up by that one dude and now she's showing her teenage angst.

I get it, but she was the most calm, collected character thus far. Then she goes awol & making a bad choice just cause some old dude said a few words. I call bullshit writing on this one.

Lol...try watching Ushio & Tora and watch the personality flip there. That one is definitely bullshit writing. It's hard to tell yet since the story is so early whether this is just a drama-creation factor or if there's something deeper. I'll reserve judgment ;)

I watched 14 minutes of the first episode of Ladies vs Butlers... that's 14 more minutes than anyone should ever watch of Ladies vs Butlers. I have no problem with ecchi or harem humor, but that was plain bad.

I would think the title would have tipped you off ;)

Finally read that Sarada mini-series from Naruto. Loved the character, enjoyed it way more than I thought it would. Haven't caught the Boruto movie yet though. Haven't read anything Naruto since the series ended plus this...is the series definitely done now or does Kishimoto want to do more with their kids? I recall him saying he wasn't completely done when the series ended but this Sarada and Boruto stuff might have been what he was referring to, yes? I wasn't big on seeing him do the "follow the main's kids plot" many series do when they bring a series back but I love Sarada, Boruto is alright even though he's a carbon copy of his father and that other kid is interesting too so wouldn't mind another mini-series or something with them.

The Boruto monthly manga just started up last week. It's drawn by one of Kishi's assistants and written by the co-writer of the Boruto movie, but will be overseen by Kishimoto. It's starting out with a re-telling of the Boruto movie, so you don't need to watch it (though the manga version leaves out a lot of little character moments in the interest of speeding things up). It's pretty divisive so far for two main reasons. One, the art style has a LOT of the characters looking off-model, especially Sakura, Hinata (who apprently became flatchested in the timeskip), and Sasuke. The other reason is
the story starts out with an older Boruto facing off against an as-of-yet-unintroduced rival character in the ruins of a destroyed Konoha with Naruto implied to have been killed and the rest of the village slaughtered, KO'd, or otherwise unable to fight.

There was also a one-shot manga done by Kishimoto a few weeks ago detailing the origins of Mitsuki (the third guy with Boruto and Sarada).

Imma just ignore the Boruto manga until I can marathon read it.

Naruto is probably sealed or something like that. It is totally bullshit if they just kill him off like that after all the shit he went through.

The worst character in Boruto is Cho Cho. Seriously. Fk her.

UQ Holder please.

Oh, I seriously doubt the implication is accurate.

ChoCho might have more screen time though, since at the very least Kishimoto loves her. She got so much screen time in the Scarlet Spring story because Kishi and the assistants all loved her. Then again, ChoCho had 0 dialog in the actual movie.

Is Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers something I should watch? I remember seeing this a few years ago in Japan and thinking it looked weird. Like they're making The Avengers Pokemon or something.

Log Horizon is done for now. Doesn't really bother me since S2 was bad. Still gonna miss jacking into the database.

I've only seen one episode, but it is pretty much what you described. Kids go around the world to collect Marvel heroes who are stuck on DISKs and defeat comic book bad guys. It's a pretty standard fare toy commercial so far.

I did enjoy Gundam Build Fighters and that was pretty much a Gunpla commercial. Maybe I'll watch a little of Marvel Disk just for shits and giggles.

It's kind of hilarious but I seem to really enjoy Hundred. It's not a great or even good anime....feels so 90s with cliches and overreacting and blah blah blah. It is something a bit different than over dramatic stuff (which I'm kind of getting over....I already dropped 2 or 3 this season with too much dumb drama), or cute girls being cute...which is alright in small doses. It's likely my 3rd favorite or so this season haha.

My first favorite is Netoge....just entertaining as heck. Re:zero is also being watched though i'm behind a few episodes. Don't really watch a lot of anime each season anymore.

Damn, this week's episode of Pokemon was probably the biggest Downer Ending the franchise has done. Ash loses his Gym Battle badly, gets depressed, runs off into the middle of the snowy woods in the middle of the night, and the final shot is completely silent as it just shows Ash completely sullen in the middle of the woods. And after more stupid Pokenchi crap, the preview is also completely silent until the "Next time..." stuff.

I mean, the preview clearly shows that Ash will get over it by episode's end, but it's weird seeing him so depressed and it's treated far more seriously than his other two "down in the dumps" episodes.

Can't wait for the dub to "fix" this by playing music over the final scene.

I'm a few episodes into Hundred but had to put it on hold to catch up with Asterisk Wars. They're the same damn show. And like you said, I can only take it "in small doses". Only so much of "high school battle anime cliched up to the wa-zoo" I can take.

For this season I'll recommend Flying Witch & Tanaka Listless if you enjoy light easy going shows. Kabenari of the Iron Fortress if you want some good action.

I'm going to check out an episode of Netoge tonight. It sounds interesting. I could use a dumb rom/com

Suprisingly Netoge doesn't always adhere by the tropes...it's pretty cool. There is some moments that will make you sigh about how stupid they are, but generally it's pretty good and high quality and pretty funny and touching too.

I told you not to bother with Hundred! lol. I enjoy Asterisk Wars more since there's more action/drama and less fan service than Hundred. Hundred is like, 75% fan service and 25% shitty action.

I know, I should drop Hundred. But I only watched the first two. I was just curious. The fan service is obviously more blatant. But I don't know if one show is better than the other. Even Asterisk War is just okay. It's a show I've seen a dozen times before.

I actually enjoy Hundred cause of the fan service. I mean the characters are blatantly obvious like one girl being in a bikini and saying since you saw me in one wear this and they show a speedo. These characters don't mess around with showing affection for the main character haha. It's so corny and silly. As I said before, it feels very 90s, more fun than anything but some serious stuff now and then.

So I am trying to watch Psycho Pass again. I've seen the first episode twice in the past. I just finished the third episode.

I like the setting and idea. But the characters and faces are lame to me. I am going to give it a few more episodes I think.

Also, has anyone seen a movie called Mind Game? The animation looks really wild and funny.

Psycho Pass is great and also disturbing. Hopefully you make it farther :) I agree the faces are meh but the story is interesting.

Dragon Ball Super 43-44 : The Pan episode was good. I like seeing Piccoyo as a nanny. I always liked his relationship with Gohan as being more of a father figure than Goku. But Monaka needs to just go away. I hate the character and just don't find his presence funny at all.

My Hero Academia 7-8: This show is a slow build but I still like it. I understand you're supposed to hate Bakugo but he's just badly written and unreasonable. Wouldn't be surprised if he turned villain.

Kinaiver 6-7: I'm enjoying this one more and more each week. It reminds me of Kokoro Connect a little.

Funny that. In the current manga arc, the villains kidnap Bakugo and try to recruit him to join them. This was his response.

Is the Parasyte anime deliberately bad? I just saw the episode where the main character confronts his Parasyte-controlled mother and by god the animation is so wooden and it sounds like the voice acting (dubbed) is matching it. It's pretty funny tho.

May want to spoiler tag your parasyte comments there lol. I watched the sub and I was happy with it. There are some ridiculous story things in that anime, but it's good overall I thought.

Yeah I'm also hoping Monaka goes away. He played his dumb part as a comedy side routine. The only part about the Pan show that bothered me is they all would have died in space period if that happened. It's even a pivotal part of the Freeza saga near the end of it where Freeza can survive in space and Goku can't. Oh well, guess they forgot their DBZ history when writing up that episode.

Agree on Kiznaiver, it's growing on me, though I'm still not sure I'd recommend it to anyone. Agree on MHA, it's entertaining, but really slow.

I was also confused why they could breath in outer space too. And Goku was fighting with Beerus in space earlier in the season. I guess they threw that rule out. A couple other things that bother me about the series:

Pan flying like a boss at such a young age when Goten could turn SSJ but couldn't even fly. That kinda bothers me.

Wouldn't Goten & Trunks have aged physically at this point? They still look like they're 8. It's been a few years since Buu was defeated and Videl getting pregnant and having Pan. I'd say at least 2-3 years so they should be at tween age now.

Watched Gundam Orgins III last night. Can't wait for the next one.

LOL! I was wondering about Goten and Trunks too. I guess they won't change their art until a bigger time jump happens like DB GT? So Gundam Origins is good? I saw that and wasn't sure if it was meh like Thunderbolt.

Netoge is great. I didn't think anything was wrong with Parasyte. However, I've been a fan of it for over a decade, so there is a bit of a bias there.

Origins is better than Thunderbolt. Screw Thunderbolt

Thunderbolt is OK, but feels really pointless. The fact that it's getting a great dub while Build Fighters gets stuck with the shitty Animax dub saddens me greatly.
