Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

Started and finished the Time of Eve manga. I didn't enjoy it as much as the anime but it was okay.

Also started reading Kids on the Slope, enjoyed the anime. Been reading while having the soundtrack for the anime play in the background.

I am trying to find the Pluto manga to buy, hopefully I can find it cheap somewhere.

Holy fuck was that a good episode of Dragonball Super. First time I ever thought that watching this show. Like, seriously, everything was great from beginning to end.

My only qualm is a minor one.
I wish they didn't fill in the aura for Kaio-ken. It always looked better with a clear aura and red highlights.

Your best on Pluto is to wait for a Viz sale on Rightstuf,or find a cheap bundle on eBay.

I'll admit, DB Super ep. 39 was pretty cool. Too bad it's the last fight of the tourney arc.

I always wondered why Goku never used the Kaio-ken technique after turning SSJ after his fight with Freeza. I don't remember it ever being addressed in the show. I know it takes a great toll on his body but Goku's not the kind of guy who would care about that. And my boy Vegeta gets left in the dust again.

I imagine it's because most of Goku's fights now are really drawn out, and Kaio-ken burns through his chi/energy super fast, so he has to conserve.

So I read some speculation that Chihayafuru will have a season 3 in 2017 (the person made it sound confirmed but there's nothing official to point to), which makes sense given that they are going to be riding high on the movies and there will be enough of the manga out to proceed without worry. Making me wonder if I should hold-off on re-watching until closer to end of year.

Ok, I'm still not bought into Macross Delta. The girl with the heart-shaped boner keeps freaking me out. Her singing also reminds me of Ranka from Macross Frontier. Maybe all amateur singers have a similar voice? Not a lot of range to her voice I guess. Anyone else watching this show? Curious what others think.

I'm at episode 177 of Gintama and it looks like it's heading into a serious arc. These are always really good. I'll probably binge it tonight.

I'm pretty much caught up with the Spring shows this week. Anything good you guys think I might be missing?

I think you're watching the good ones so far. DB Super, Re: Zero, and Kabaneri are all good. MSG Unicorn is good if you like MSG. High School Fleet (Hai Furi) is pretty interesting so far if you want to give it a go. I kind of want to give it a few more episodes to see how it's going to play out before fully recommending it, but I like it so far. I want SOMEONE to watch Macross Delta to see if you feel that it's as cringeworthy as I think it to be.

That being said, I did catch up on DB Super and I agree with Dnukem, it's the best episode yet. Classic DBZ. Was really happy to watch it. Obviously if you hate DBZ, then it does nothing for you, but DBZ fan boys like myself love it. Also caught up on second episode of Kabaneri and that show looks like it might be pretty amazing. Only two episodes, but I am digging it.

Watched the first two episodes of Ajin today on Netflix. Now this is the kind of anime I am definitely going to like - no comedy at all, thank you. The animation looks similar to Knights of Sidonia, as it's the same crew I believe - but it also appears to have been at least partially rotoscoped, as well.  'tis OK, I love unique animation styles - a nice change of pace.  I'll probably watch more eps tonight... hopefully the story stays interesting and doesn't fall apart later on...

It doesn't became a shitty space harem like Knights of Sidonia of that's what you're implying. Series works well due to it's morally ambiguous cast of characters, and having a memorable villain like Satou.

Yeah, I wasn't too thrilled with the direction the second part of Sidonia went, it went from serious to a little too cutesy. Didn't get to watch any more Ajin, mowed the lawn and pulled some weeds instead - yay. Maybe tomorrow night.

JoJo part 4 is finally getting into more fighting. Looking forward to Friday night JoJo fights even more now.

I applaud Gintama ep. 188 & 189. The show has always varied in quality but these kind of episodes really stick out. Perfect blend of comedy and feels. #188 reminds me why Hasegawa is the best character in the show. A homeless drunk loser with a heart of gold. And I kinda teared up at the end of #189.

Hai Furi continues to be interesting in episode 3. Big Order got better in episode 2, has promise. Actually lol'd at one segment of it. Curious where this show goes.

Ah good ole Hasegawa. Ginatama is just amazing. All they have to do is play that damn sad melody and the waterworks gets to running. It doesn't last though especially when their setting you up for some hilarious punchline. Hook line and sinker everytime. :D

RE: Zero is still doing well, though this last episode I guess was a "meet all these new people and what they are all about" episode. The ending was interesting though. Not sure what happened though....making me curious as to what direction they are going to go with this.

So I'm not the only one in this thread watching Gintama. That's good to know. Are you caught up or still trucking through like me?

Dragon Ball Super isn't bad anymore. I'm really looking forward to next week.

I'm at episode 218, im still trucking on. I don't recall what episode Gintama made the switch to HD but it was about that time I stopped watching. I recently have picked it back up. :D

You're just a little farther than me. I'm around #194. I'm guessing they made the HD switch around 200 since I'm still in SD.

Let me know if you watch any stand out episodes that I should look out for.

The end of the last DB Super episode made me laugh..."that's not my hand your touching!" lol

Why doesn't the King of the Galatic Empire wear some freakin' pants? Or maybe he want's people to touch it.

My Hero Acdemia ep 3-4 was good. Is this really only going to be a 12 episode season? I'm thinking maybe they should've held off a couple years so they could make this a longer run.

I think the success of One Punch Man and the popularity of the manga (especially in the West) sped up the decision.

Going to start Noragami (season 1...) tomorrow. Looks fun and I would like to keep the entertainment upbeat/action-y for a little while.

they have enough content to do a longer run. they easily could have done a 26 episode run, heck at the rate they are adapting stuff they could have done a 50 episode run.

I have a feeling it's more likely that Bones is just on a split cour setting now as pretty much all of their shows are split cours now.

Watched a shit ton of Gintama last night. Episode 202 was the 16:9 switch. It really helps knowing a little Japanese while watching this show. The captions do a good job but a lot of puns will fly right over your head. Soooo many butthole and scrotum jokes.

Flying Witch [EP 1-3]

I'm a sucker for shows that take place in the country side. I needed something super chill this season. And the backgrounds are simply gorgeous.

Yeah, I've been enjoying that show too. Kind of curious if it's going to stay laidback or have a twist somewhere in the story. Imagine there's a twist...but we shall see!

I don't know. I hope it remains a laidback slice of life. I like that the "witch" aspect isn't the main focus of the show. It reminds me of Non Non Biyori a little.

Oh really? Im sold then. Non Non Biyori was cuteness overload. The backgrounds and the sounds of the cicadas was so chill. Almost makes me want to settle down and have kids.... nah. :D

Then you will like Flying Witch without a doubt. Very low key, simple fun show. Enjjoy

Dub cast for My Hero Academia was announced. Justin Briner (Mikela in Seraph of the End, Alfonso in Garo) is Izuru, Chris Sabat is All Might, Luci Christian is Ochaco, and Clifford Chapin (Kirito in Psycho-Pass) is Bakugo.

Watched the two seasons of "Heaven's Lost Property." I enjoyed them - except for the Tomako scenes. Not sure why she was a reoccurring character. One time would have been fine for me.

Good story, very funny at times. I wish the movie was also on Netflix.

Tried to get into RWBY, but stopped after 10 min. Not a fan of the animation at all.

Hmm I found the latest episode of RE: Zero to be a bit confusing and weird. Hopefully it will become clearer in the next episode. Also starting to wonder if this is going to start getting old soon...

Are you talking about the reset aspect? I'm only 3 episodes in. I plan to catch up tonight if I'm not too tired. Watched the first 4 episodes of Tanaka-kun is always Listless. It's okay. Tanaka and Ohta are the best couple this season.

Picked up a decent amount of Anime at a $5 per paper bag sale today. Pics will be in the yard sale thread (link in my sig).

I also started/re-watching FMA brotherhood. Almost though the old material (on episode 16 or so), but it is tedious to watch without the emotion of the "original" series.

RE: Zero [EP4-5]

This got a little lighter. It's finally obvious that Subaru has major hots for Emilia. The reset reminds me of playing a video game multiple times. Subaru knows how to play the field more effectively each time but he gets tired of doing it.

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress [EP2-3]

This is the action anime of the season. I can totally see this airing on Toonami late nights.
