Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

started Bakuman the other day. ep 7/25 so far its looking good.

finished

Strike The Blood

and

Shinmai Maou no Testament Burst (lots of oppai fondling lol)

anyone watching Assassination Classroom S2?

this season almost over it was good, as a whole i enjoy both seasons

I'm watching AssClass. Kinda sad to see it wrapping up but at least it's a show with an ending.

I wanted to try a new rom/com so I watched We, Without Wings. I got about 20 minutes in the first episode and just couldn't stomach it. I dropped it after the "cool guy" at the cafe. Smoking his cig, all girls want his "D", and him turning down everything from cute maid chicks & even just hanging out with his bros. fuck that guy. I hate the "cool guy" stereotype in anime & dont understand why they're so appealing. They're just handsome dicks that treat people like shit. I'd rather hang out with guys like Master Roshi & Hasegawa from Gintama.

Bakuman is great, you'll enjoy that series.

Yeah, We Without Wings is horse poop. I remember watching the whole thing a long while back. I don't know what I was thinking, must have been bored out of my mind. Rom-coms are kind of hard to find (that are good). A lot of them are blends of something else, like dating sim/visual games. If I recall, you saw Kimi ni Todoke (kind of more rom than com) and Toradora. I'll throw out some that are interesting, though I know you've tried/seen some of these:

1) Skip Beat! (you ever finish it?)

2) The World God Only Knows (I lol a lot in this show, though I don't think I'd call it rom-com necessarily)

3) Lovely Complex (def. rom-com)

4) Seto no Hanayome (really good one)

5) Sora no Otoshimono (not sure what to classify this as, but it's funny)

6) Kaichou wa Maid Sama (more rom than com)

7) B Gata H Kei

8) My Sister is Too Cute (Ore no Imouto)

9) My Teen Romantic Comedy Snafu

10) Golden Time (more rom than com)

11) Love Hina (infamous...)

12) Chobits (ehh, probably more rom than com)

13) Golden Boy (really more dirty comedy but...6 episodes or something so worth a go)

14) Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka

15) Hatsukoi Limited (probably more rom/slice of life than com)

16) Nyan Koi

17) Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun

18) Kamisama Hajimemashita (more rom than com)

19) Chuunibyou

20) Date A Live (not sure what to classify this one as...kind of a mash up of diff things)

Ok I gotta stop there lol. Didn't think I'd find that many on my list but apparently they are there. There are more that fit the dating sim profile that I tried to avoid since they usually don't have lots of comedy. Anyways, that's enough to research for you and check out :)

I finished reading Kids on the Slope last night. Had a great time reading it. Everytime I would read I would play the anime soundtrack which greatly added to it. I also like the manga ending more than the anime.

Now to properly start Pluto or start I am a Hero..

Just... shorten it to AnoHana...

That is way too long to read.

Honestly, I still liked Tari Tari better. Coming of life, more realistic scenarios, different motivations, and less bawling.
Finished Tari Tari today, really enjoyed it, definitely better than AnoHana. Yet again I'm getting reeled into the rom-coms. They're the perfect distraction from day-to-day responsibilities of being an adult. Also open to suggestions, going to check out the list starkillr posted.

Rodimus
i was skeptical at first in the beginning of the 1st season but i enjoyed it thru the end

thus far im enjoying Bakuman i can tell already im gonna enjoy if not all of 3 season but most of it i will

Wow. The writers blow it out of the park again in Pokémon. Ash is taking this harder than he did the 6-on-6 loss against Paul, even yelling at Serena, and while it feels like Ash and Greninja solved their problem a little bit too easily, it's a minor nitpick. What really helped were the details, such as Ash's other Pokémon being called out to help search, the various allusions to Ash's previous ventures, mostly in Kanto, to how his flashbacks only included Gen 1 Pokémon, to how the perfected Ash-Greninja form has some minor extra details. I also love how the writers managed to not only give Ash and Greninja development, but also gave some to Serena (and not entirely just ArmourShipping), Pikachu, and even Zygarde/Puni-chan. And hinting at the Kalos League makes me wonder if we'll get that before Team Flare.

Started Ore Monogatari this morning and it's adorable af. Looking forward to seeing where the story goes.
Enjoy. I really liked this one. It just oozes charm. You can't help but root for the MC.

Spoilers past episode 3:

Plus it's one of the few shows where the couple hook up within a few episodes, and you get to see a relationship develop as a couple rather than all that timid bullshit.

i almost drop it due me thinking it was gonna be one those typical romance anime. but i was wrong. i enjoyed it thru the end

So you watched everything? I like how everyone thinks Takeo is just some big ogre duffus, but without even trying he proves them wrong with his heart of gold. Meanwhile Makoto unintentionaly takes most of the credit for Takeo's deeds. But neither of them give a shit. And while I hate the "cool guy" anime attitude, Makoto (who did annoy me a little) proved to be a true, honest friend. Even giving time to open up to his shy, stalker. They had a good bromance going on. I'd really like to see more of this show.

Ore Mono is a really good rom/com that doesn't get flooded with cliches. And if anyone is on the fence about watching it here's a minor spoiler:

They actually kiss

Yeah the lack of cliches and unique characters make it shine. I'm thinking I underrated it in my list haha.

Oh and I shamelessly ordered the Emilia pre-order statue on Crunchyroll today w/ the 25% off sale. It looked pretty cool and is probably the only character from RE: Zero I'd get since the MC looks like a twat in that jersey.

Wow. It literally was the Wing promo with the terms changed. I don't know if I want to praise the nostalgia or criticize the laziness.

Also, JYB's Orga sounds really, really weird. I keep hearing Ichigo.

I would've preferred to watch this dubbed.

It really was a fun show so at least a good Gundam is coming to the Cartoon Network.

I never was a fan of Gundam nor any mecha shows at all, but I loved the story in IBO - so it's a Day 1 pre-order/purchase for me.  I seem to like these newer releases of Gundam, probably because of their modern animation styles that don't look like silly Saturday morning cartoons from my childhood, and their more mature themes - I REALLY liked Thunderbird, and with what little I've seen of the Origin series, it looks like I would probably enjoy that one too.

Lol, I never need to worry about having issues with English dub actor's voices, since I watch only subbed anime  - English dubs usually sound like fingernails on a blackboard to me...

Tanaka-Kun is Listless ep 7-8

Tanaka & Ohta continue to be the best couple. It's nice to see Tanaka actually make an effort for his close friend and take care of him for a change.

Up to episode 266 in Gintama. This show is so much fun. I watched like 8 episodes last night. I couldn't stop.

Latest RE: Zero is fun. One of my predictions was right, not that they didn't spell it out in the show, but hey, I like being right! The good shows this season are staying good.

Oh I also re-watched Clannad. That second season is so painful to watch. Really not an "upper" of a show. Still a great show tho. Ushio is adorable.

Since Hulu's getting rid of it in a few days, I started up Valvrave. Watched the first 5 episodes and it's pretty cool so far. I also have a feeling it's going to be one of those series where the shit hits the fan every episode from here on out.

not an upper :p

clannad season two is one of the established

it's alright for a grown man to cry at that shit

exceptions to the man card :p

it's along the other exceptions such as

watching your children die in front of you.

watching your wife die in front of you.

not all loved ones, you can't cry for mommy or daddy.

Clannad is one show I haven't watched that I think I need to. I see it keeps getting mentioned in this thread.

I'm watching Re: Zero tonight. I'm a few episodes behind.

Valvrave is an interesting show, you'll enjoy it. Too bad the BD are ultra expensive to buy.

Yea, was checking the physical release and it'd be about $100 for just the two DVD sets.

Got through the first half of the show (albeit not in order since Hulu decided to skip Episode 10 instead of asking if I was OK with "adult material."). Pretty damn good so far, though the whole "shit hits the fan every episode" looks like it applies more to Season 2 than Season 1.

EDIT: Finished the series. It was pretty decent, though the ending was obviously rushed and I don't think I'll be eager to watch it again. I was actually OK with the space vampire stuff, but once Runes and memory erasures cropped up, it started to get a bit much.

Stayed up way too late last night watching the second Gintama movie. Damn that was good. Awesome to see Shinpachi & Kagura age a few years. I think the begining was a bit slow but once it starts it's guuuud.

Finally watched One Punch Man. I watched the first episode when it started airing but didn't find myself that interested. Then for some reason lately I thought about it again. It was pretty great - very silly and some funny moments. Art and animation were great too (apart from some goofy looking characters). Looking forward to the next season.

Next up: Paranoia Agent.

Action scenes were always fun to watch and that last fight scene was gorgeous.

Watched the episode of Gintama were Hasegawa goes on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" which plays out like "Slumdog Millionaire". This show is gold at times. Fantastic episode. The one-shot episodic ones are the best. Plus it's got my boy Hasegawa as the main.

Nah. He didn't start to lose the majority of his memories until his fight with Cain. And even if Shoko didn't sell him out, the final battle would have played out largely the same.

Though the first Future scene pretty much confirmed that he would die in the end. Saki wouldn't be reminiscing like that if Haruto was still alive.

I finally finished Gundam: Thunderbolt and The Origin. Really like the Origin, some great stuff there. Thunderbolt feels like a MacrossxGundam mashup gone bad. It's all darkness, no light. Prefer a more complete story than whatever that was supposed to be, which I guess was "war sux".

almost completely finished with Bakuman series need 9 more episodes of S3. overall its enjoyable couple repetitive things

I was on the fence about Thunderbolt but I haven't see too much love for it. Origin is fantastic especially if you're familiar with the original series. I remember the basic story behind Char (or should I say Casvel) but this helps connect the dots. But even fresh eyes could get into this.

It's easy to see why Char would become obsessed with Amuro. Char seemly has all his shit together until little unexperienced Amuro arrives.

Thunderbolt's big problem is that it feels uselss. It's got cool action scenes and showcases some horrific aspects of war that the main series don't really touch, but the actual story is paper thin and the editing leaves a lot to be desired. None of the characters are particularly memorable or likeable, plus you could argue that it's extremely misogynistic.

There are 3 women in Thunderbolt. One appears for 10 seconds wailing over a fallen lover/sibling soldier who died in the beginning. The other two do nothing but complain about how terrible war is and one is so upset about being made a captain that she shoots herself up with drugs. And both main women cry in almost every scene they're in.

Just got done watching Girls Und Panzer Der Film. A little annoyed that the plot of the movie is basically a rehash of the series, but 2/3 of the movie being awesome tank battles made up for it. Immensely entertaining.

Twin Star Exorcists is finally starting to get more interesting. Not a slow build up, but wasn't sure where they were going with the plot.

For the folks here who have watched buckets of Gundam, what are the best series to watch that are out on Blu-ray or coming soon? I've seen MSG 00, AGE (ugh), and watching the current one on CR which I think is a re-master/re-hash G:Unicorn. Since I never watched Gundam until 00, I'm completely unfamiliar with what appears to be the main line story of Federation vs Zeon.

The mainline Universal Century story is Mobile Suit Gundam > Zeta Gundam > ZZ Gundam > Char's Counterattack > Unicorn > F91 > Victory > Reconguista in G

There are also three side stories (08th MS Team, 0080, and 0083) that take place either at the end of MSG or between MSG and Zeta. 0083 is the weakest of the bunch, but it's still a good series overall and worth watching.

Gundam X is its own universe as is Build Fighters, while Turn A pretty much combines every Gundam universe pre-SEED into one timeline.

I honestly don't think any of the current Gundam shows Nozomi has released are bad at all.

If you just want a show with no backstory, Turn A and Gundam X are great choices, though Gundam X had a short run so its ending is not all that fulfilling.

Zeta is often called the best series, though I would disagree. It was certainly one of the darkest before the turn of the century.

ZZ gets a lot of flak because it starts out very comedic, but it ends really well.

If you don't want to watch for Unicorn, pick up the current DVDs, as there's been no differences between the OAV and TV versions so far.

Build Fighters is just pure fun, but is exceptionally lighter than anything else in the franchise.

If you want to get into where it all started, pick up MSG, either the series or the movies. The movies are technically canon, but the series does still have some good moments. Just be aware that it looks and sounds incredibly dated.

Turn A has two movies that condenses the entire series. That's how I watched it. It does feel a bit rushed but I liked it.

Build Fighters is another good choice. It's strait up Tourney anime meets Gundam. Like Nukem said, it a lot of fun. And I'm pretty sure everything is officially up on Youtube.

And if you didn't see the recent Iron Blood Orphans that was pretty good too.

As for the main story if you really want just go in raw and watch from the first Gundam series which I they made into movies. But I think I remember the dub on those being really bad.
