I'm new to the 360 and I just got kicked off of XBL about 30 minutes ago. I haven't been able to reconnect since, so I called M$ and they told me some people may be experiencing outages, but they're not sure when service will resume.

Have any of you folks been hit with this outage? And has this happened before, or does this happen often with the XBL service?

Yeah, an outage makes sense, this rarely happens tho. I can't connect either. Usually if you do a network connection test, and pass everything up until "Xbox Live", it is probably something on MS's end.

dude i was going to come here and post about this. it's the weirdest shit ever. I can connect to Xbox live when im on the dashboard, once i pop in a game it disconnects me, go back to dashboard i can connect fine, again pop in any game it disconnects me. Play a demo, it disconnects me. Once im disconnected i can't sign back on unless i go to the dashboard. Can't play Oblivion because my content is locked thanks to DRM, fucking god dammit.

Talking about demos- I was signing in to download the Crackdown demo (since it's $20 on Amazon) and it was 50% done and it signed me out! Bastards better have this thing up and running before the Amazon deal runs out. :bomb:

My dad was having trouble earlier, my cousin in Ontario, Canada was having this issue too. I havent had any issues yet...

its worth 20 bucks, just do it.

Definitely worth $20. I had the most fun just running around and jumping from building to building.

I am back on. I was having problems too. I also recommend Crackdown. The add-on stuff is awesome. Harpoon gunning dudes to a car and driving around with it doesn't get any more fun. Well it does, but that is one of my favorite thing to do.

i've had my 360 for a week. and i just now decided to sign up for live. i am driving myself crazy trying to figure what is wrong with my setup. i tried to sign up during an outage. just great!

goddamn, it fucked me over. i was at the last stretch of one shot one kill in COD4 on veteran and this happens. now i'll probably have to start from the beginning...

Saw someone link to the xbox.com/support page above, but the message reads as follows:

"Status:
Users may be unable to log into Xbox Live. Our engineers are currently investigating and are working to resolve this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience."

Just in case anyone was about to go ape shit and reset their routers or anything.. just remember to not hold down that reset button and erase any settings :)

And just before anyone else says it:
0h no3s!! Teh haXX0rz g0t Xb0x L1v3!!!!!!!

Funny thing, I can't play DivX/.avi files unless I'm connected to Xbox Live. I guess the 360 has to hit the live servers to put the Divx drivers in a cache or something at startup?? I have screeners I'm trying to watch damned it!

Just buy it. For 20 its well worth it. one of the best games ive played all year.

You can still play games on your Xbox, but you can't play games online or Arcade games if you've had a 360 red ring because of the stupid DRM stuff. I really hate not being able to play arcade games offline.

its because the free codec is locked to your gamertag because you probably moves your gamertag or hard drive to another console at one point. A way to fix this is to create a silver account, play an avi file and it will download the codec to your console, then you can watch all your stuff offline on your other account.

god damn do i love DRM

yeah this is gay. my friend who lives in the same city as me has been playing for like 6 hours but I can't sign in. My other friend signed off and got back on later and is playing right now. My two other friends (same city!) are playing COD4 and Halo 3!
Grr.

Oh joy, now I can't play online after burning a 48 hour trial code. Not that it really matters; I've got a decent stash squared away. But Live being unusuable on a wintery Saturday night... I'm really glad I've not paid any REAL money for this kind of service.

Figures the day I get my xbox back, and I can only sign in to live as a "silver" member. Any time I go to any game that has multiplayer support, I either get knocked off of live, or I get "Please sign in with an Xbox Live multiplayer accessible account."

My gold account doesn't expire until Mayish.

Well, at least we're paying for a service that goes down randomly, and links every goddamn thing you buy or download to its unstable networks, so your console is effectively shut down whenever microsoft feels like randomly fucking up the service you're pouring money into them to, at the bare minimum, keep up.

signs....at least this wasn't a holiday weekend for me where i was planning on playing a lot of games online with my friends...oh wait...

I was playing and playing for awhile. Decided to end my game and play a video. The live connection kicked through right then.

Yay for MS servers! They sure know how to break and fix with incredible timing.

I've been down for around 3 hours now. Can't connect to Xbox Live at all. Connection testing gets success for everything except Xbox Live... talk about a pain in the ass. This is a holiday weekend, with probably one of the highest periods of traffic (a Saturday night).. this isn't scheduled maintenance, somebody fucked up.

I know it wouldn't do any good, but has anyone called it in? I'm curious as to what their outsourced help line is saying :) Might be worth a free month of Live or something. I'm a paid member until 2010... they better not have deleted a table of user accounts in a database and lost that info.

Somebody overloaded the Xbox Live servers with porn. That's usually the cause of these kind of things.

Edit - it's back up and running. bizaah.

...maybe. Halo's matchmaking thing wont retrieve info, but i am connected to xbox live.

Thank god I found this thread.

I just got back from college and was trying to figure out why my network bridge wouldn't pass the "Xbox Live" test. I was going nuts.

Ya, I just got back from college and was used to the contest problems due the college firewall. Now, I get home and Xbox Live just wont connect. It was driving me nuts until I saw this.

Figures it would go down tonight. It's the last night I'll be able to play for a week and I was *just* starting to get better at CoD4... Hopefully it'll be back up by the time I get around to signing in.

Yeah, I have the same issue.

Dashboard, I can connect to LIVE. Play a game, disconnect, play XBLA, disconnect....go back to dashboard...CONNECT. weird.

Been playing some of the laggiest TF2 matches for a few hours. Finally just kicked me and wouldn't sign back into live. At least I know it isn't an issue on my end.

first my wife hands me divorce papers and moves out..second i find out she has been cheating on me..so i am alone at Christmas....NOW MY fuckING X-BOX LIVE DOESNT WORK!!!! WHY GOD WHY?......sorry..i am very drunk right now

outage makes no sense,.... i can sign in with my crap one month that i never play on, but it takes like 3 tries to get it to connect , and w/ my other account i get no luck and cannot connect wtf

Haha, I was wondering what's up. It was down earlier, and I just turned on my 360 again and still down. Good thing I only wanted to play Puzzle Quest.
