Atlanta CAG Thread, v2.0
Crazypanda, I believe it is THIS Thursday at 7 at the Discover Mills Dave and Busters.
I'm in Atlanta now and that's the plan. I might not be there until about 7:30 myself, though.

I just need to figure out where this place is ;).
I think they may be closing out a bunch of them at once, because the one in the one on North Decatur Rd. (Publix shopping center) is having their going-out-of business sale right now as well.

Can't say as I'll miss 'em.
I know I'll miss them. I've gotten a bunch of games in the B1G1 sales and considering the credit I had before they changed the trade-in process most of those games were much cheaper for me. $5 and 7.50 for games in great condition (granted, sometimes that is hard to find) is one of the cheapest deals left now that Sears and Kmart won't go below $10 anymore. Even if the chain doesn't go under, the more stores the better for those sales.

Maybe we should compile a list of closing stores. The one on the corner of Club Drive and Pleasant Hill is closing as is the one on Steve Reynolds in the Kroger plaza behind ToysRUS. I thought one would stay open to cover that area, but maybe there is another one close by. I know the one on Dogwood off Five Forks has no closing signs up. Any Gwinnett CAGs know if the one on 124 across from Walmart, the one across from the dollar theater in Lawrenceville or the Lawrenceville one off 316 just past Sugarloaf are closing?

You guys have fun at the get together. Was gonna try to make it, but I've picked up a virus and don't feel much like doing much fo anything, in fact I'm worn out from all this typing already. . .
The BB in Kennesaw on Barrett Parkway is closing as is the BB in Woodstock at 92 & Trickum.

Going, going...
I just passed by the one on Trickum today. Should have stopped in. Was too busy canceling my Crysis 2 pre-order at GS.

Sorry, been kinda busy with too much IRL stuff this week. But I'll be there tonight. YAY!!

It's ummm... exit something on i-85. If I'm smart enough to notice when I head out there today, I'll update the thread.
You guys should come to the D&B in Marietta. It's a lot closer to Atlanta than Discover Mills.

http://www.daveandbusters.com/Locations/Default.aspx?search=30066
It's also bigger and closer for me. Buuuuuut...
1) io is way closer to the D&B at Discover Mills. Trust me on this.
2) The shindig is tonight, too late to go changing plans now.

Get together tonight at Dave & Busters in Discover Mills mall. Starts around 7~7:30ish. See y'all there.

So this is Jillians isn't it? my room mate keeps telling me there's no D&B in Discover Mills..so which is it?

Yup. I think Jillian's and D&B must have merged, at least in some markets? Oh, and in true 'cheap ass' spirit, I wanted to point out that by registering at the D&B website they'll e-mail you some sort of coupon within 24-48 hours. I just did it, but no telling if it'll arrive in time to use it tonight. --Andy
So this is Jillians isn't it? my room mate keeps telling me there's no D&B in Discover Mills..so which is it?
According to the D&B website, they took over Jillian's.

5900 Sugarloaf Pkwy
Lawrenceville, GA 30043

Interesting to note that some D&B locations are 21 and up only (unless you're with a 25+ guardian). But this particular location is 18 and up. Not sure if that's an issue for any of our folks.

I'll be trekking up from my office in Sandy Springs/Smyrna and am already dreading the traffic. But it will be worth it to FINALLY see an Atlanta CAG meet up happen after years of false starts. If anyone is interested, I know an awesome ramen joint up near here in Suwanee. Much better than the food at D&B (and probably cheaper). Very otaku/gamer appropriate! Could meet there beforehand or head over after. They're open til 10:00 (last orders at 9:30).

Wish I'd thought to pass this info along to Cheapy & co. to promote on the latest CAGcast. Oh well.

its exit 108 on i-85. there's a cool pokemon black & white trailer in the parking lot. XD if I could figure how to post the pic I took from my phone, I would.

I believe the reason this is all ages is because its in the mall, and they may not be permitted to be age-exclusive.

see you all soon!

hope that doesn't turn out huge on the site, its hard to tell on the phone.

just realized that aside from me and Io and neo, most of us won't recognise each other. maybe we try to meet around the bar?

everyone get there safely.

sounds great, tybee.

We had fun.

I believe the full roster was me, Gwen, El Gray, Tybee, Robotechnology, and later on Neocisco and Animemaniac14.

Animemaniac14 - I kept telling Gwen that "Cid" was on the way. I guess I just look at your avatar and XBL/PSN IDs and think of you as Cid rather than Animemaniac14. So yeah, Gwen, that's who I meant ;).

As far as I know there's no Dave & Busters anywhere near me, nor any place really like that at all, so it was fun to play some arcade games after so many years. In recent years, I've been too much of a cheapass to play arcade games that cost more than a quarter, but with the D&B funny money it's hard to tell what you are spending. That Namco pirate game was a blast, though. Those crabs HAD to be a giant enemy crab reference.

And Neo was only 74,200 tickets away from taking that PS3 home - so close! Let's see... after another 90-100 CAG meetups he'll have it!

Don't forget all the panhandling I'm going to do. :)

Really great to meet everyone and shoot the breeze, as well as a few pirates, terrorists, WWII fighter planes, etc. Nice to know all the ATL CAGs are as cool IRL as they appear on the Interwebs. I always think of Animemaniac14 as "Cid" too. Your avatar is TOO EFFECTIVE.

That pirate shootin' game was definitely the best thing I played. I'd go back for that alone. The Typhoon roller coaster simulator was surprisingly enjoyable as well.

All in all, a great night. Look forward to doing it again. Now that we've affirmed that no one is an axe murderer, maybe we can meet up at somebody's place, bring a lot of extra controllers, and have an old-fashioned throwdown.

In Real Life... I get it now! #-o

In other news, I'm looking forward to making great progress on Prof. Layton Unwound Future on my 8 hours of flights today.

Eager to hear your thoughts on that one. I loved all the miniquests in Diabolical Box, especially the tea making. I've got Unwound Future sitting on the shelf, but all of a sudden Pokemon White/Black is calling to me. I played the hell out of Pearl/Diamond. Thought I was done, but apparently not.

It was great meeting everybody. I called it a night at 10:15 and apparently missed a few of you. Mark your calendars now for 3/29: the idea was thrown around of seeing the so-bad-it's-good "The Room" at the Plaza Theatre next time they show it. I think they play it once a month, and I always threaten to check it out....

great time, was terrific to meet and see two of you again.

ah ha! now I know why I couldn't place you animemaniac. you were talking about things that were absolutely familiar, but in my mind I kept asking myself, 'cid? cid? who is this cid guy?' which is actually a relief that Io got the name a little fuzzy, my medication actually gives me slight mental blocks at times. I'll be talking with someone and then in the middle of a sentence, I either forget what we're talking about or their name.

are you sure about the axe murderer statement, Tybee? I think I scared el grey off towards the end. or possibly, the entire time. :giggle:

I would have posted sooner but my new laptop which spent two years in its box in my room, decided that it wanted to kill its lan card this morning. gotta take to micro center to see if they can fix cheap so I can just sell this thing. as many problems as my old hp has, I prefer it to windows 7.

one more post and then I think I'll have remembered everything.

Io, have a safe flight.

Neo, the guys name who worked at the comic shop before moving on to target was chad something. forgot his online name, but it had a number in it. when I can connect via laptop, I'll show you the picture.

I believe gravity has unusual effects on me. I remembered neo as being around twelve feet tall, and he wasn't. I must have Just been really short when I saw him in cc. Io thought I was around twelve feet tall and as he saw last night, I'm not.

some people yo-yo with weight, I yo-yo with height.

Damn, I missed the CAG ATL meet up! Oddly enough, I felt the need to check the forums a few days ago as it has been a few months since the last time I came onto this site. Never got around to logging in until this morning.

@dkeller and anyone who doesn't check here regularly. under thread tools, try Unsubscribing from thread and then resubscribing and choosing email alerts for like, once a day or so. you'll have an email rundown of any new posts from the day. so you can see whats up automatically.

Wait, is this Chad a person in the Woodstock area? This sounds like one of my friends therefore I suppose I would know him, too ;)

I used to be rather active on these forums, but became overly busy with finishing school and other events. Last time I got on CAG was back in November of last year.

The minigames in Unwound Future are pretty good. There's one where you have to direct a car to pick up various objects and end at a certain point. It is on a grid and all you can do is place a limited amount of arrows and jump tiles down and then you set the car loose and see if it makes it to the end. This seems similar to a game I remember in one of the other Layton games though I don't remember which.

Then there's another where you have to get a parrot to a platform at the other side of the screen by having it bounce on ropes that you stretch between pre-defined points in each puzzle. This one is pretty difficult but it is pretty satisfying when you solve it.

Then there's a less interesting one where you place stickers into a story-book that is full of blank words (each word corresponds to a sticker of course). You get stickers from solving puzzles in the real game so it takes a while to put the stories (there are 3 of them) together.

The story in the main game is pretty good, too, though I'm not quite to the end yet. I made some progress on the plane, but I got kind of tired after our long night Thurs, then a half-day in the office, and finally that long drive to the airport, followed by 8 hours of flights ;).

I also just started Dragon Age Ultimate Edition for the PS3 last night after you guys inspired me to get it going. In fact, I'm gonna go play that a bit right now!

Another Blockbuster report: the one at Crossville/Hwy 9 is closing. There are a few decent deals to be had on some recent releases (LBP2, TFU2, New Vegas,) as the used games are 30% off already.

Blus are still just 15% off, and they don't have pricing stickers on them, so it's kind of a hassle to decide what you'd want to buy without taking them to the desk.

Sounds like the hamster minigame in Diabolical Box where you had to get him to lose weight by creating the longest possible path for him using various objects to attract and repel him on a grid.

Played a lot of this over the weekend. Let me know if you need any guidance. This is the best place to start: http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_Age_Wiki

I recommend playing as a mage for maximum enjoyment (although the mage origin bit at the beginning is kind of a bore), but other classes are fine. As a rule of thumb, you're going to want your party to include a damage/area of effect mage (either yourself or Morrigan), a healer (Wynne), a rogue who can unlock chests/doors and disarm traps (I prefer Leilana and focused on her bow skills, but Zevran as a dual-wielding melee character can work too...or vice versa), and a melee tank (I alternate between Alistair and Shale, but your dog can serve this purpose early on, and later Sten or Oghren also fit this role). Obviously, if you play as a different class, you'll be the rogue, healer, or tank. Much like Mass Effect 2, you'll likely have a go-to squad, but will want to swap in story-relevant characters at certain points to hear their dialogue and sometimes effect different outcomes.

Oops, well, I started out as a Rogue because I wanted to be able to open chests and stuff and I guess I didn't realize you could use other characters to do those things. I was thinking it was more like Oblivion where I just had my own character. Oh well, I like using bows anyway. What I have really been missing early on is a healer - I lost all three of my support characters in the Wilds at one point and had to slowly pick off the rest of the darkspawn from long range with my bow and just a tiny piece of health (and no potions left).

I don't think I've gotten to the point where I can pick and choose characters though - it just keeps putting me with different people. I just finished the Gray Warden joining and am fighting my way up that tower place.

Yeah, you're very early in the game still. The way you add party members is a little more organic in this game. You pick them up "Wizard of Oz" style as you progress through the main quest. The guy you're with, Alistair, will be one of your permanent companions. If you did the dog sidequest before the battle of Ostagar, you'll pick him up as a companion soon as well (there's a second way to get him if you missed that bit, but I forget what it is), and also Morrigan. Once you're given the option to move freely around the map, you'll probably want to visit The Circle (the mages' tower) first and complete that questline. That's where you get Wynne (at the beginning, so she'll be available to help you most of the way through, and you'll need her). Having her in your party is pretty much a necessity unless you're a mage who takes on a ton of healing spells or you make Morrigan play WAY against type. You can also give Wynne a couple of good offensive spells but primarily her job is to keep everyone else alive.

Let me know once you get a few more party members and I'll give you a quick and dirty primer on managing their tactics.

Dog quest - you mean getting the plant to heal the dogs?? I did that but it hardly seemed like a quest and Alistair wasn't really involved. I pretty much did all I could before heading on to the tower. I didn't have any quests left and no one would say anything new to me. I'm not too far along that I can't go back a bit though if I missed something important.

Anyway, off topic here... To get it back (somewhat) I found out today that we don't have the budget for another trip for me (and in fact, did not have the budget for this last one either) - confusion between different parts of the company there. So I don't know if I'll be coming back to Atlanta or not. We'll see...

Sounds like you're fine. The dog will join you once you start moving around the map.

Sorry to hear that, but now those of us who were there last week can lord it over everyone else's head. WE met the great and powerful IO. ;)

Incidentally, I poked around the Decatur Blockbuster last night and it looks like they're still pretty early in the clearance. Most blu-rays were only 10% off (at least, those in their cases ... I'm not interested in the disc-only ones so didn't look at those). Not much better on video games or DVDs. I think the biggest discount I saw was 30%.

Ah, you meant the dog joining your party? I had that from the start since I did the human noble origin. I didn't realize you didn't get him automatically with all origins.

Now I'm at that weird dream part of the Mage tower. I had to stop there last night as that is damn hard when I'm in there by myself and have to fight multiple enemies. It was really nice having the healer for the tower part, but now that I'm alone it is much harder. Still, the game got much better there than it was in that opening area.

As for my trip, it appears to be back on again ;).

Ah, I forgot about that. Yeah, I believe that's the only origin where you start with him. Otherwise you have to help him in that Ostagar mini quest and then after everything goes down, you come across him in a random map encounter fighting a bunch of darkspawn. After you help him, he recognizes you and you have the option of allowing him into your party.

Ah yes, The Fade. Mages get a little experience there in their origin story. Might be worth your while to track down a walkthrough for that part as there are a TON of permanent stat bonuses you can find during that part (like 10 or 12), but most are pretty well hidden. But it will really help you strengthen your character.

As for my trip, it appears to be back on again ;).

Cool. Keep us apprised.

Two more closing Blockbusters:
Lawrenceville(?) on Riverside just off 316 is closing
Atlanta in Ansley Mall on Monroe also closing

Has anybody locally spotted "DC Universe Online" [PS3] dropping at their Targets? The main Target clearance thread acts like it is happening, so I've been positively haunting my favorite location (N. Druid and Briarcliff RD) without success. I was there last night, and they still have 4 copies at full price in the case. I've never tried an MMO, but I love the idea of making my own superhero and running around Gotham. --Andy

It's a really good time. I used to play MMO's on the PC, but I like play games in front of my big TV with the kids hanging out. DCU works well on the PS3. If you can get the game for a reduced price, it is even better.

Oh yeah? I'd snag a cheapish copy, too, if I could find one. Ring the alarm if you see it +1, Andy (or anyone else).

I played the PC beta a bit, and it WAS cool.
