RIP Scott Bigelow

September 1, 1961 - January 19, 2007
I can't believe I'm doing this topic...
Wrestling gimmicks come and go, there are the good ones, there are the bad ones, the ones we love to cheer, the ones we love to hate, the ones we'd love to never see again, and then there's the unforgettable ones that will never be duplicated. Gimmicks that are so original they succeed in leaving a lasting impression upon the fans no matter what ridiculous storyline the individual is involved in. These are the individuals that get brought up in conversations about wrestling in a "remember that guy!" way, and it's not really a question because no one can ever forget them. Bam Bam Bigelow was one of those individuals.
"The Beast from the East" simply had a unique presence about him, from the unmistakeable flames tattooed around his skull to the incredible agility he possessed at such a large size. There haven't been many 350lb+ wrestlers that incorporated the top rope into their finishing manuever. And who could forget the tale of Bam Bam gallantly rescuing two children from a fire, suffering burns over nearly half his body in the process? Perhaps that incident did the most to shed some light into the type of person Scott Bigelow was.
Throughout his in-ring career, Bigelow, was linked to some of the biggest names in wrestling, including teaming with Hulk Hogan and Kevin Nash during his WWF Title run as Diesel. Additionally Bigelow headlined Wrestlemania XI with NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor.
After the WWF, Bigelow had great success as one of ECW's top guys, even holding the ECW World Championship for awhile. Bigelow wound up finishing his on TV in-ring career in the WCW, holding the hardcore title. Unfortunately Bigelow never held WWF gold.
Bigelow's passing adds one more name to the ever-growing list of professional wrestlers that have simply died far too young.
It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we say goodbye to Scott "Bam Bam" Bigelow.
