Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts - Gen. Discussion & Info

Those achievements look pretty cool and creative. Thanks for the heads up, LP!

And I didn't know they were planning a demo. Even better! I may be able to convince my cousin to give the game a shot if he likes the demo.

$37 shipped with a potential extra $5 off from the BML promotion while still retaining the XBLA deal...tempting! I want demo now!

Just a heads-up, I had this in my Gold Box @ Amazon today...it's already marked down to 37 bucks anyway, the Gold Box discount brought it down to $35.14. May want to check to see if you have it in yours if you're interested in this but haven't preordered yet.

STUPID ASS XBOX. grrr. Since it's for Gold members only, I activated my card that I'd been holding on to. It says I'm a gold member, but I CAN'T DL BK. Says for gold only. Better recognize me soon! sigh

Really? I'm having a fuckin blast with it. I've already built like 10 different vehicles and I've only done one challenge in the game world. Is the multiplayer via LIVE? If it is, does anyone want to play later tonight?

With a pre-order, it essentially makes this game $25. And...that's probably what it's worth if the demo is any indication given the control problems. They're just so loose. Especially on the
Protect Clanker
Challenge. What a pain in the butt that was to complete.

Also, you cannot die. You can drown underwater, but Kazooie revives you every time. What the hell is that? This is a platformer for crying out loud. There should be punishment for screw-ups. But it honestly doesn't look like there's a way to increase your health.

Also, if you go back and play the demo a 2nd time, if you made a vehicle in your first playthrough, it's there in the 2nd playthrough.

The demo was interesting. I didn't play much of it but I can see the appeal of making the vehicles and trying to complete the challenges.

I didn't have any problems with the controls and given that the default tray vehicle is pretty much a piece of crap, it is not surprising that the handling on it isn't too great.

I look forward to playing the demo for a longer period of time to get a better feel for the gameplay.

I put this on a Christmas list so I won't be getting this for a while (if I get it at all).

I guess I was expecting something else. This game feels like Twisted Metal to me in a sandbox like environment. I was expecting a platformer with vehicular elements. From what I played, I wouldn't really call this a platformer even.

Though building vehicles is pretty cool.

I thought the demo was really fun, and I loved creating all the vehicles that I could. BUT, and this is a big but, what the fuck is up with no damage? Platformers need damage as KingBroly said.

So, can I use the gold 48 hour trial to download this? I have a silver account and there seem to be conflicting reports on the trial cards.

If you have a month trial, I believe that will be the only way.

this is weird. Here on CAG, the impressions are kinda so-so. On kotaku though, the impressions make this game sound like game of the year. Hmm.

Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie were two of the greatest games ever made. I remember playing Tooie a ton back in elementary school. I don't have the same level of expectations for Nuts and Bolts, but I'm hoping it scores in the high 70s to low 80s range.

Never played any previous banjo game. I had high hopes for this one, but then i saw that it was being built around building vehicles and got turned off. I tried the demo just to give it a shot anyway. Im a gamer that loves quality gaming. So when i fired it up, immediately, the graphics are amazing. Seriously, the engine they made for this game should be whored out for years, it looks so amazing and could pass for a kids show on tv, its so well done.

And thats about all i can compliment on this game. The controls are ok when you're just banjo, but the vehicles control like crap. The objectives feel like work rather then fun and you're mostly out collecting parts to build more vehicles to get more parts for your vehicles. Its a endless boring cycle. If they made the game a pure platformer, i think this could have been the best game on the 360 this year, but they absolutely destroyed the game with the concept of vehicles, building and fetching parts. Aweful.

Graphically its a 9.5/10. The rest is a 3.5/10. I wish it was something else, would have been day 1 for me.

As somebody who loves a good platformer and has been yearning for a 360 answer to Ratchet and Clank on the PS3 for a long time, I was very dissapointed in this demo. The game basically forces you to use the vehicles (complete with loose controls), and the on-foot sections are only in place to get you from vehicle-section-one to vehicle-section-two. This is not a platformer, and not a traditional BK-style game.

That didn't necessarily have to be a bad thing; trouble is, the game isn't as fun as it should be.

Also, technically, the graphics are great. However, the art style and world design are too busy and cluttered. My fiance (who loved the first two) commented as I was playing, "it looks like they tried too hard." I couldn't agree more.

Damn.

Tried the demo and didn't like it.

Reasons:
-Small, unreadable text (what's my objective?!)
-"Get used to 'em" or "start with the worst" controls on the car
--I'm thinking they would get better or you'd get more accustom to them as the game goes on
-Water meter depleted. Guess I died, but I stayed in the same spot when it refilled.
--No challenge seen if I can't die (if I only knew what challenge...)

Well I do like the music. And the graphics aren't bad.

Gets a big 'pass' from me for now.

OK, I don't understand the hate. I had a BLAST with the demo. The controls DO take some getting used to (being generous here) and I hope better parts = better handling, but that's the only thing I can rip on it so far. Graphics, music, style all = amazing (though I'm suffering a HEAVY blast of nostalgia right now). The gameplay is honestly just a step up from where they were going in BT, what with more minigames etc. I'd prefer an honest to goodness platformer BK style, and really do hope that somewhere down the road a true BK3 comes out, but I knew not to expect BK3. I knew to expect N&B, and that's what I got.

Some oddities:
1. Humba now looks less Native American and more like an Indian girl in one of my classes this semester...
2. Why'd they change Mumbo (and I'm pretty sure Bottle's) voices? New Mumbo annoys me. Eekumbokum!
3. Bottles has EYES behind his glasses now! idk why, but I lol'd at that.
4. Def. agree with comments that the text is WAY WAY WAY too small. what was that? Why are you talking so damned fast too?!
5. I lol'd at
Klungo. At the end of BT, he said he was gonna get a new job, and didn't he mention being a janitor?
hehe

To sum it up, I've got Little Big Planet to play, my Guitar Hero World Tour came in the mail today, and I STILL played THIS demo for almost 2 hours. Can't wait for the final game.

TEARS, I want to like it but I wasn't that into it. Maybe I'm just preoccupied at the moment. I'll try it again some other time.

I made a blog post with my impressions. I already paid it off. But clearly the pre-order bonus of the original Banjo for free seems to be the best reason for buying it.

Sure the demo has multiplayer but since it seems totally separate from single player (blueprint wise) I'm not entirely hopeful of what that means.

Thanks, was hoping to just be able to drive it around the overworld a bit.

Like I thought before, I'll be skipping this one over. I did like how the bird commented on how ugly Banjo was.

I enjoyed the demo enough to keep my preorder since it seems as good as most full priced games these days. I do hope there will be more traditional platforming in the full game though.

Rare is pretty foolish for making the text so hard to read. Yeah, I'm sure a game like that that will attract the youth, will have SUCH readable text on the cheaper SDTVs that kids and teens might have personal access to! C''mon, REALLY? And the silly tiny text even likes to move at it's own pace, when you're trying to squint to read it!

Anywho, I was never a fan of Banjo in the past, so I'm considering this game more now, since it would let me see what all the fuss was about. It's quite an attractive game, though I hate Banjo's square snout... the whole thing looks kinda Viva Pinata inspired, lol... which makes sense. I surely should get to the point where you can make your own vehicle... that'll probably be the make-or-break point for me.

ROFL, Grunty was RIGHT! (talk to her in town to see what I'm talking about)

This game is really fun, and I love how large and open the worlds are. A very good change of pace from the dark games this holiday. Definetly buying.
