I'm bored...would you rather dunk on someone bigger than you or block the shit out of someone bigger than you?

posterize someone bigger than you (carter 6'6" 220 lbs. posterizes alonzo 6'10" 261 lbs.):

block someone bigger than you (gerald wallace 6'7" 215 lbs. blocks shaq 7'1" 325 lbs.):

i voted for the monster block

Since I've only dunked on someone shorter than me, I decided to go with the sweet feeling of blocking someone taller. I'm sure a dunk feels great, but who knows...they could hit you in the balls.

I have blocked many people before...which is kind of odd because I usually block people with my left hand...yet im right handed ???

anyway I voted to dunk on someone...man if my fat ass can jump and dunk it on someone taller than me I will never stop talking about it.

I can't dunk, I can just barely touch the rim but I'm 5'10. The tallest person I've blocked was 6'3 I think. Maybe 6'2. He went up and I just jumped and put my hand up and got the bottom half of the ball. it was great.
Blocking a shot generates such an animalistic pleasure/grunt from me that I just can't deny.
this is true...everytime i block a shot i want the ball when we get the ball...so i can shoot and shoot it so hard that it ricochets off the backboard

Blocking is a good feeling, but the person you do it to just looks at it like its a part of the game.

If you dunk on someone hard then your showing them that you just kicked their ass in a sense, its the most personal thing against someone. So I'm for the dunk.

If the shooter is right handed , shouldnt using your left hand give you a better reach/angle.

Generally, yes.

I voted for the dunk only because I have blocked many people taller than me but have never been able to dunk. Now, if I was physically able to do both on a regular basis, I would probably go with the monster block.

I'm pretty average height, so I voted to flush it. I can block shots of people around my height, but no matter how short my opponent is I still can't get above the rim. The best would be if I could do one of the somersault dunks like some of the mascots.

Block. I am 6' tall and I was able to block a kid from my school that was 6'5". It was like a Ben Wallace powerful block and it felt so good. I can barely dunk, but I think a block is so much more fun.

I play basketball about everyday but have never dunked, but have blocked many peopel who are taller than me... so I rather dunk... since I never will be able to anyway.

Dunk since well, at 5'7 I cant dunk. I'd love to have that feeling of shoving it down someone's throat.

Well, I have done both when I was playing. When I was playing at PHCC before I screwed up my knee) I blocked a 6' 9" guy who was coming down the lane and tried to dunk on me and the team got more hype when I did that than anytime I dunked. Plus, it takes more balls to try a block someone's dunk than to try to dunk. Most people are too scared of getting posterized.

I loved dunking on people too though. We had an inbounds play in which I would curl off a screen, the inbounder would just throw the ball up in front of the rim and I would go get it. I got some good dunks like that.

Man, I miss playing basketball.

How'd that stop your game? You can still shoot right? That shouldn't stop you from playing. You'll just have to become adept at being a shooter beyond the key.

I did actually. Instead of being a post player/slasher I ended up improving my three point shot and specialized in that. I was always a decent shooter anyway, I just never shot outside much because I didn't have to. My jumping ability was never the same again though.

I didn't like playing as shadow of my former self though. I didn't rely solely on my athleticism. I had some pretty good coaches in high school (I played for Husky Hall at Martinsville), I believe he reitred as the winningest coach in Virginia AA state history. We also had Mel Cartwright who was an assitant at Maryland in the 80's. He came in an assisted some while I was playing in High School. I was snakebitten in high school too though.

I had a severe ankle injury in a pre-season game against William Fleming High in my junior year and I had a weight lifting accident with my knee my senior year. I didn't really get my knee strong again until my first year in college. After that, I got hurt just before the VCCS tournament. I managed to make the all-tournament team in 1997 but I was playing hurt and ended up making my knee condition worse. That was when I shifted to shooting three's but I lost almost all my dunking abliity.
I'd say dunk. It just looks like fun, and even when the hoops as low as it can go, I still cant dunk :(
It's definitely fun.

I think it won't be too long before a girl dunks on another in either college or the WNBA. Candace Parker at the University of Tennesee is an awesome player and might be the first to do it.

The San Antonio WNBA team had a lady who was like 7 feet tall and she never dunked.
There was an article in the recent Dime magazine about the Magic cheerleaders that use trampolines to dunk during timeouts at their games.

Damn, that sucks, man. But in your previous post you made it seem like you quit bball altogether. So you still play then? Or does your knee hurt too much?

Yeah, I have quit playing in any competitive fashion. I was told by my doctor that I have a degenerative condition in my knee and that is why I still have pain. I had to do physical therapy in 1999. It helped, (I used to have pain just walking up stairs). Now, the only time my knee bothers me is when I jump and that limits me too much. If by some miracle I can eliminate the pain while I jump, I'd love to play pick-up games again, though. Everytime I see people play I get the itch to get out on the court. It was my life from 5th grade to college so its hard to let go of it.

Damn dude. You can't even play pick-up games? That's harsh. That's like me giving up chasing after women. Completely harsh.

I'd rather block the bigger person!

I'd get all up in their face waving my finger like Dikembe Mutombo on a crack binge! White boy can jump!

:nottalking: lol

You guys are nuts I figured this poll would be 80-20 in favor of dunks. Dunking should be the easier winner in my eyes. It's been about 5 years but there is nothing like that primal feeling of hanging on the rim following a dunk. I have pretty long arms so I get quite a few blocks so maybe it has lost its zing a little bit. I mostly play pickup ball now where I'm either the tallest or next to tallest guy on the court so I don't get to posterize taller players

It doesn't surprise me at all that the block is winning. Gamers are inherently rebellious (yeah, yeah, a stereotype) and a dunk is more mainstream and popular. The other explanation is that alot of gamers are more in tune with the purity and the sanctity of things and defense is more pure from a basketball standpoint than the dunk. It's probably a combination of the two, but I expected this result.

I dunno man. I've done both & I think blocking is more fun. More than once I've blocked a dunk attempt so it's doubly delicious to catch someone in the air mid-dunk and slap it out of their hand. Sure, it's most likely a foul but the satisfaction that the guy's dunk was incomplete is all worth it.

i just think it's more because of satisfaction...i mean, yea you get a high off of dunking on a bigger man, but there is a satisfaction you get when you deny a bigger man a shot that he should easily win over you because of strength/size/height

I got my wrist broken blocking a dunk, maybe another reason i went the other way maybe. Also I barely dunked over someone because at the time i was 6"3 145 and if i was touched at I'd fly off away from the rim. Actually most of my serious injuries have been on the courts its a wonder I still play

I'm gonna say dunk, because not only do you get your points, but it just seems like the biggest part of the game these days, especially if it's for the final point...
However I still think the most memorable basketball moment of my lifetime is when J.R. Rider stuffed Patrick Ewing...
Being a Knicks fan is so frustrating...

Blocking takes skill even when ur a big guy cause you gotta use the right timing and judgement or else ur gonna get a peice of there hand and it becomes a foul.

Dunking can be done by any tall fattass 'shaq' with no real tallent just run up the court swetting and u dont even gotta jump just reach and push it in the top..tho ive seen some lazy players miss dunks and send the ball across the court its still pretty easy when ur that size .

Also must add alonzo mourning is the shyt and your not gonna dunk on him very much regaurdless of the video .

that's why the vid was awesome :D

Alright I voted for blocking. When someone blocks my shot I get really mad and feel like shit for a little bit and lose a little confidence on my shot. So I know when I block someone they feel the same way and they will respect your defence.

I would have voted for dunk if I did it like Vince Carter did when he jumped over that tall dude in the Olympics. That was amaz za zing.

EDIT:

Also I don't know about you guys but when I block a shot I really like to blovk it with power and send the ball 50 feet outta the court. A lot of my teammates tell me to soft block it and rebound it but I do the other way for intimidation. :)

blocking does not take as much as skill if you are taller. Because the one advantage is you don't have to leave your feet to get a block. I hardly ever fall victim to pump fakes because I only go up if it absolutely is a shot. And on some guys I can block it flat footed. i will say my favorite type of block is coming behind someone as they are laying the ball up and pinning it on the backboard
