▼ Read Me! FAQ ▼ Pre-Order $10 Program
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can I pre-order and purchase multiple copies of a
qualifying game and get multiple awards?
No. There is a limit of one (1) award per My Best Buy
member per game title.
What if I pre-ordered a qualifying game before I
saw this offer?
If you pre-ordered a qualifying game before seeing
this offer, you’ll still qualify for the offer as long as
your member ID is attached to the transaction.
When will I receive my $10 reward certificate?
For each qualified purchase, you will receive 500 My
Best Buy points (worth $10 in reward certificates)
credited to your account approximately 15–20 days
after street date or store pickup.
If I pre-order a game now using my GCU and the
game releases after my membership ends, will
I still get the 20% off discount?
- From BestBuy Support Forums (link):
For in-store pre-orders, I can definitively say that if
your GCU membership is expired when you
complete your pickup, you will not receive the 20%
discount. This is because in-store pre-orders are not
processed until the time of pickup, and we only
collect an up-front deposit.

Pre-orders made on BestBuy.com are not as cut and
dry as in-store, but it is possible to retain your GCU
discount on a title released after your membership
expires for these types of pre-orders. Reason being,
when you place your pre-order the GCU discount is
calculated up front, and we then pre-authorize the
discounted total with your bank. If all goes well, the
discount can be retained upon release, however,
there is no guarantee.

A sure way to lose the discount on BestBuy.com
pre-orders is if any modifications are made to the
order prior to release, but after your membership
has expired. These modifications could be updating
the billing address, changing the form of payment,
and others. This is because when a modification is
made it triggers another authorization on your form of
payment, which should recalculate the price if your
GCU membership is no longer active.

Depends on how confident you are in digitally owned stuff. If you feel like 20 years from now you'd like to see that game/steelbook sitting on your shelves next to your collection then I'd buy it. If you just want to experience the game then just cancel your preorder. There are certain games/series that I have bought the collector's edition and the digital version because I wanted to keep the collector's sealed.

It makes completely no sense, but from having some rare sealed Gamecube games or PS1 games: it's cool to see in your collection when there aren't many that exist anymore.

Has bestbuy stopped doing 9pm/midnight releases? I no longer see the landing page showing participating locations for nba 2k20.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned it yet in this thread, but Doom Eternal now also comes with a SteelBook.

I already had the game pre-ordered for the $10 rewards, so I checked and it didn't show that the SteelBook was part of the pre-order.  So, I canceled and re-ordered and now the SteelBook shows up on the order.

No need to cancel in case anyone is wondering, especially those that pre-order collector editions that sell out quick.

They are good about automatically adding bonus items to existing preorders. They send out an email saying they noticed an item wasnt in your preorder. If you preordered months in advance they add it like a few weeks before release.

That makes sense. If the don't add it to your order automatically, I'm sure you can contact customer service. In my case, it wasn't a big deal to cancel because it wasn't a collector's edition or anything.

Does bestbuy even do email gift certificates or anything anymore? I used to get them or coupon codes once in awhile in their mass emails but I haven't gotten one in a long time. Think I might unsubscribe from them because all I get now are 2 or 3 emails of the same stuff a day.

The page is back and they've added Borderlands 3. When I went to get Mortal Kombat 11 at 9pm the night before release my closest store told me they were no longer able to sell it at 9pm. I showed them the gaming events page that clearly said ANY store could sell at 9 and they still denied me. Their forums had posts from others with the same problem but a friend went into a different store and got the game with no problem. Really hoping it doesn't happen again with Borderlands.

Yeah I was shut down at 9pm for NBA 2k20.

Is anyone going to attempt to get Borderlands 3 tonight at 9 pm?
It's on the list on their website...it should be available. Follow up if anyone knows: can you get OTHER products releasing tomorrow, namely Star Wars Pinball for Switch? That one isn't on the list since it's an obscure release but wondering if others have gone in for say, Call of Duty, but we're actually going for something else releasing the next day.

Anybody else's Borderlands not ready for pickup yet? I have a feeling they're gonna screw up again like they did with my Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Took them over a week and 3 phone calls to get my early edition preorder...
Super excited for BL3... so of course issues gonna happen.

I'll go back to gamestop as my main for preorders after gcu expires. So much more reliable on preorders and CE conditions when ordered in store.

I wouldn't necessarily make that assumption. Lots of people ordered the Kingdom Hearts PS4 console at Gamestop and it got cancelled out from under them as I recall. I've had them "run out" of preorder bonus items before (yeah, I'm sure the employees took them). And that's to assume Gamestop even exists for that much longer, they are closing a bunch of stores by the end of the year with rumors of it accelerating after that. There are issues at pretty much every major store, which is yet more evidence people need to stop preordering games since they cannot even uphold their end of the whole deal.

If your pre-order is for a special edition, I'd make sure to go early. And if you see one on the floor grab it before pickup just in case they didn't set yours aside. A lot of times they don't do that until the morning prior (from what I have seen) as it triggers the pickup email so cannot do it before closing and people just want to get home the night before. If someone doesn't check that when they get in, they might put it out by mistake before checking how many need to be claimed.

I was actually able to get my copy as well. I kept reading on twitter and the forums that people were getting denied.
It's just baffles me why they continue say you can go to ANY store at 9pm the night before release when that is clearly not the case. Simply changing the wording on the site to say "call your local store" or actually listing the stores that are participating like they used to do would eliminate the problem.

Also got my BL3 $10 already. My game is out for delivery, though with UPS in my area, it probably will come so late that I won't be able to start until tomorrow.

Btw, the season pass is now up on PSN for $50. Glad I got the SDE from BB with GCU for $80, making the pass $32 and a side bonus of the deluxe dlc and steel case.

Yeah, I normally don't buy "Gold" editions but I got the SDE. Pretty nice deal with GCU especially since I believe the SDE goes up to $120 MSRP next week.

Actually got my BL3. Got a text and email sorry not available for pickup, but app said order ready. Went by and they had one to snag. Bestbuy just trying to mess with me today :)

They just sent stock to stores at the last minute for some reason. Mine got the game Thursday morning for a release less then 12 hours later...

The store where I got the game told me they were still waiting on their shipment Thursday morning as well. I assumed the clerk was misinformed until your post.

You have any insight as to why the 9pm release events are handled so poorly? A Best Buy customer service rep posted that a memo was sent out informing stores that they should all be participating in the early release for Borderlands but people were posting that their stores knew nothing about the memo.

That's easy - some people check the memos and some don't. Most stores also having gaming as part of six departments now, so being able to check things like that isn't always possible.

Well the store manager or a manager on duty should be doing that every day in a properly run store if the clerks aren't doing it or are too busy. Not reading the memos can lead to a lot of dissatisfied customers as is evident on the Best Buy forums.

They did post about all the 9pm releases but I'm sure most "sales" employees don't check that stuff or even know it's there.

Our store had sold out of BL3 when I got around to picking up my pre-order. Still debating returning and waiting for BF but I'm not sure that it would be much cheaper than GCU + $10 rewards. :whistle2:k

I pre-ordered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - Xbox One since I still have GCU and used my $10 BL3 pre-order certificate towards it. But they sent me Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Pre-Order Bonus - PlayStation Captain Price for Blackout in Black Ops 4 code. Even in the description for the Xbox One version, it says you get a PS4 code. Why would they think people ordering for Xbox would want a PS code?

Now I have a dilemma. I'd like to upgrade to deluxe since the sp00ky skins are up my alley but I know damn well returning the pre-ordered base copy will remove the 500 bonus points, despite having bought a new copy. Just how difficult is it to request the points back once everything is all said and done? I don't doubt they'd be willing to do it, since they can clearly see the chain of events on their end but I'm wondering if they've been hassling anyone that has done this before?

I might return my unopened Super Deluxe this weekend, I rather use my giftcards/certs on Ghost Recon or Modern Warfare since my GCU expires 12/4

Be aware that the digital version of Super Deluxe has already increased msrp from $100 to $120. Getting the physical for $80 after GCU is a nice deal. For now, physical SDE is still $100, though not sure if it will stay that way.

So exactly how bad is the new Contra supposed to be?  I'm debating preordering it and getting the $10 egiftcard (comes out to $31.99 plus the additional gift card), but if it is terrible I will probably wait until it hits $10 or so.

Giving you a like for the Actraiser avi. The game is still beautiul to this day.

I haven't heard good things. But I do believe a demo for it just dropped recently if you'd like to check it out for yourself.

Was planning on pre-ordering  Ghost Recon Breakpoint and i noticed all of a sudden it seems everything is sold out except the digital deluxe for Xbox one.  I find that kind of hard to believe but maybe BB website is having issues.

What is the proper order for a $10 trade in coupon and gcu applying? Snagging FIFA on Friday and can’t remember.

Sku, coupon, then reward zone id to kick in gcu?

Or sku, rz id, then coupon last?

Thanks for any help.

I think is coupon last. Don't forget fifa is still $50 and $40 w gcu

I saw. I’m hoping the $50/$40 holds for tomorrow.

I think you are right on the coupon last I just couldn’t remember.

I’m just looking forward to the sale/gcu/coupon triple combo headache.
