▼ Read Me! FAQ ▼ Pre-Order $10 Program
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can I pre-order and purchase multiple copies of a
qualifying game and get multiple awards?
No. There is a limit of one (1) award per My Best Buy
member per game title.
What if I pre-ordered a qualifying game before I
saw this offer?
If you pre-ordered a qualifying game before seeing
this offer, you’ll still qualify for the offer as long as
your member ID is attached to the transaction.
When will I receive my $10 reward certificate?
For each qualified purchase, you will receive 500 My
Best Buy points (worth $10 in reward certificates)
credited to your account approximately 15–20 days
after street date or store pickup.
If I pre-order a game now using my GCU and the
game releases after my membership ends, will
I still get the 20% off discount?
- From BestBuy Support Forums (link):
For in-store pre-orders, I can definitively say that if
your GCU membership is expired when you
complete your pickup, you will not receive the 20%
discount. This is because in-store pre-orders are not
processed until the time of pickup, and we only
collect an up-front deposit.

Pre-orders made on BestBuy.com are not as cut and
dry as in-store, but it is possible to retain your GCU
discount on a title released after your membership
expires for these types of pre-orders. Reason being,
when you place your pre-order the GCU discount is
calculated up front, and we then pre-authorize the
discounted total with your bank. If all goes well, the
discount can be retained upon release, however,
there is no guarantee.

A sure way to lose the discount on BestBuy.com
pre-orders is if any modifications are made to the
order prior to release, but after your membership
has expired. These modifications could be updating
the billing address, changing the form of payment,
and others. This is because when a modification is
made it triggers another authorization on your form of
payment, which should recalculate the price if your
GCU membership is no longer active.

I got two $10 certs today but I ordered only one Pokémon game, so one of the certs must be from Luigi's Mansion 3. Hooray, no hassle!

I'm pretty sure my total just jumped 500 points (probably LM3), but I don't see a line item in the history representing it. Weird.
Found it, they itemize it on the day you pre-ordered I think so for me it was on 9/24. Funny because I just used my 25% off a toy coupon since it expires tomorrow and used a $10 cert up. Now I have another $10 to replace it lol.

Same here. Are they pretty good about letting you pick up right at 9 pm? I haven't done a BB early release ever. It was usually only Gamestop that did them for the games that I wanted.
From my experience, yes, they're good at letting you pick up at 9pm. It's up to you of course, but you may want to contact your local BB to see if they will indeed sell tonight. In the past, I've read complaints on their BB forums from customers not being able to pick up late night even though all Best Buy stores were suppose to allow it.

Yep, it's on the order date. A line item "$10 Bonus Reward – Luigi’s Mansion 3" just showed up on that date. 15 days after ship date it posted, not attached to the original order.

Hey I have a question for you Best Buy and GCU pros.  My GCU is about to end (so sad) next month.  If I preorder a game that comes out afterwards, do I still get the $48 pricing?

As for Luigi's Mansion, I didn't think we'd be getting that but, as usual, my son came up to me the week after it came out and said he wanted it.  D'oh!  No $10 bonus for me - but will make it my last (current game) GCU purchase probably.  At least I can apply the $10 from Pokemon Sword to it.  I knew enough to preorder that one even though he wasn't interested when it was first announced - he is now.

I haven't been CAG-ing nearly as much as I used to.  Best Buy GCU has been the only way I've gotten discounts in the last year or two barring Black Friday sales.  I don't do the trading to GS and preordering from them thing any more.  When GCU goes away I'm not really sure what I'll do for cheaper new releases.  Probably just not get them.

I remember you from back in the day! I'm the same way, but yes! As long as you pre-order before your GCU expires, you will get the $48 pricing. If it happens to become a title that gives you a $10 cert down the line, you'll get that as well. I went on a mass pre-ordering spree on games before my GCU expired even if I was just a little interested in them. I then ended up just canceling the games that got poor reviews / didn't want anymore.

Yes, you still get the GCU pricing. Mine ends this month and just preordered a game. There is always the possibility that they'll cancel a preorder, though, but I only ever had that happen once. Preordered a Square Enix Switch game shortly after it was announced and it later got cancelled. Then a number of months later, they started taking preorders again.

Thanks, guys. Guess I need to look into whatever preorders they have available and go nuts! I'm so glad I piled a few years onto my GCU when I had the chance. Only wish I had done more.

Arrived at Best Buy at 9pm to pick up Fallen Order.  I learned that they started selling the game at 8:30.  I was told it depends on the publisher the time it can be sold.  To re-confirm, yes, I still received the GCU discount for Fallen Order even though it had expired.  It only mattered that I pre-ordered when my GCU was still active to receive the discount.

I got my 500 points from Luigi today! 15 days after the game came out. Odd as it's usually ties to the order date based on my past experience, but hopefully others receive it as well

Make sure the credit card you use doesn't expire before the release date. If you have to change your billing after GCU expires you lose the discount.

I never got my 500 points for Luigi, so I went ahead and contacted them earlier this week asking about it since the base points already were applied.  They told me there was a back end issue and that the points were never credited.  They issued me a 500 point reward, and then I look today and there is the Luigi bonus lol.  Whoopsie

And I'm sure you'll do the right thing and contact them again...

For what? They told me there was an error with the points being credited and credited them themselves. I asked what was going on and why I hadn't yet received them. I've had this happen in the past and been manually credited points and never been credited double. Ain't my fault.

Personally, after spending $10k with Best Buy this year using my Visa, I don't think I should feel bad about a free $10 lol.

I "pre-ordered" Sword and Shield last night, and did it as two orders to try and make sure I got the $10 for both.  An hour after picking them up, Sword shows the 500 points, but Shield is missing them.  According to their forums, I should get it for both so I guess I'll wait the time out and have them fix it if it doesn't show up.

Actually sort of regretting not doing it for Fallen Order after seeing the reviews, as I hadn't paid close attention to it.  But, this seems like a game that will drop in price fairly quickly and the backlog is significant so I'll wait.  Hopefully they will iron out some of the bugs by then as well.

I have a question regarding the usage of reward certificates. Let’s say I get the certificate and use it on something else but end up having to return/cancel my preorder item, what happens? Do I have to pay them back or do I get negative points?

Negative points, so future purchases will go towards paying off the balance that’s left rather than accumulating towards a new certificate. At least that’s been my experience.

I had pre-ordered Pokemon Sword and Shield and only got the 500 points for one of them.  20 days past the day before yesterday, so I had to PM a forum moderator at Best Buy to get the points for the second game as they had stated would happen since it was a separate SKU.  Unfortunately they did not show up on their own like with Luigi's Mansion 3.  So if you got both, check your points, seems you might have to request them for the second game.  It took about a day for them to respond, but they gave them with a new line item in my history named "Gamer's Club".

Anyone else having a delay in points being available from Black Friday purchases? I have a couple hundred points pending but it's taken a bit longer than normal. Wondering if others are experiencing the same.

I thought I read that it can take 15 days after purchasing something to get points, but I'm not positive.

Same issue, I think Jedi's points have been sitting in limbo for me; honestly can't remember at this point which one it is but I know for sure the 500 bonus points have been held hostage for whatever reason. It's a wash though, as I need to return it since I got it via the X1X bundle.

Surely stores will get plenty of SBs. You will just have to go for a swap if you don't get the one you wanted.

I don't know if this is the best place to ask/mention this but did anyone with cyberpunk preordered get a "shipping delay" notice? I got a notice and thought it was a bit odd but just a release date change notice but when I look at the order it says there was a delay in shipment and if it doesn't ship by January 29th they'll cancel my order.

I'll have to call them tomorrow I guess. I used my end of GCU coupon to get it preordered for $38 and I'd like to keep that price.

EDIT: They sent a correction email today saying the previous one was a mistake.

Super bummed as my GCU just ended 12/31. I preordered what I figured would be best like the Nintendo stuff. For those that have had GCU end, when did you receive that final “sayonara” 25% coupon? I haven’t seen an email yet for anything saying “thanks for all the money you didn’t really think you’d spend on stuff you haven’t really played yet.”

What’s the email subject line? Thanks in advance for your time. Happy 2020!

I received mine a week before my GCU expired. Others have reported the same. Email subject line: "Thank you, Name. Save 25% on the game of your choice". Check your spam folder, if you haven't already. Also, see if your Best Buy account is set to allow promo emails.
