▼ Read Me! FAQ ▼ Pre-Order $10 Program
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can I pre-order and purchase multiple copies of a
qualifying game and get multiple awards?
No. There is a limit of one (1) award per My Best Buy
member per game title.
What if I pre-ordered a qualifying game before I
saw this offer?
If you pre-ordered a qualifying game before seeing
this offer, you’ll still qualify for the offer as long as
your member ID is attached to the transaction.
When will I receive my $10 reward certificate?
For each qualified purchase, you will receive 500 My
Best Buy points (worth $10 in reward certificates)
credited to your account approximately 15–20 days
after street date or store pickup.
If I pre-order a game now using my GCU and the
game releases after my membership ends, will
I still get the 20% off discount?
- From BestBuy Support Forums (link):
For in-store pre-orders, I can definitively say that if
your GCU membership is expired when you
complete your pickup, you will not receive the 20%
discount. This is because in-store pre-orders are not
processed until the time of pickup, and we only
collect an up-front deposit.

Pre-orders made on BestBuy.com are not as cut and
dry as in-store, but it is possible to retain your GCU
discount on a title released after your membership
expires for these types of pre-orders. Reason being,
when you place your pre-order the GCU discount is
calculated up front, and we then pre-authorize the
discounted total with your bank. If all goes well, the
discount can be retained upon release, however,
there is no guarantee.

A sure way to lose the discount on BestBuy.com
pre-orders is if any modifications are made to the
order prior to release, but after your membership
has expired. These modifications could be updating
the billing address, changing the form of payment,
and others. This is because when a modification is
made it triggers another authorization on your form of
payment, which should recalculate the price if your
GCU membership is no longer active.

Well I'm finally into my final month of GCU. I definitely plan on making quite a few preorders and purchases before and like many of you, once I lose it, can't really see myself buying from BB unless the deal is really really good.
Here, here. I'm down to mine as well although I can't remember how to see what day it expires. Pretty sure it's around mid-may but I need to be vigilant for the coupon so I can take them for one last ride.

Anyone else have their Animal Crossing digital points appear sometime in the last month, by any chance? Looks like they got credited again to my account while I wasn’t paying attention (after support added them manually). Shows as credited on release date, too :/

Edit: by the looks of it, they were added early last week.

Could have swore TLoU2 was part of this promo... but I guess not. My GCU expired and they never sent me my last 10-20% off coupon. Also I don't recall getting a cert with my P5R CE.

I never got a gift card for my P5R CE either, and when I contacted them, they said that cert was only for standard copies. Needless to say, I and a lot of other people on their forums were pretty upset about that. Makes no sense to offer a cert for only one edition of the game (and the cheapest edition, to boot). Since my GCU expired, I've soured on Best Buy, though I still prefer to pre-order collector's editions from them. Nearly every collector's edition of a game I've gotten from Amazon has arrived crushed, so I like to stick with in-store pickups for those.

Free e-gift card with Fairy Tail pre-order (PS4 or Switch, I'm sorry I can't post links yet).

They did this for Atelier Ryza, too, so I hope the trend keeps up for Gust games getting gift card bonuses.

Thanx, I contacted Best Buy thru their forums and they are shipping me a giftcard since they can't manually add it to my Fairy Tail order

That happened with my Ryza pre-order, too. I pre-ordered long before they added the gift card so they mailed me a physical one. A little strange that they can't just send you an email, but whatever.

Which version did you pre-order, PS4 or Switch? I'm leaning toward Switch because it's a turn-based RPG (something I could easily play while watching TV or something) and Ryza looked FANTASTIC in handheld.

I am getting the PS4 version since usually that version is better in terms of graphics

Did not want to start a new thread but check your accounts because they are giving $5 bonus rewards. I got a $5 reward in the mail and it was already waiting in my Rewards account. It's not the mystery reward, just a flat out $5 reward that can be used in store and online.

Well E3 didn't happen. Are you expect them to add certs for games that haven't been announced yet?

I'm referring to their offerings for the past year or two. Much more selective. Used be twice as many eligible titles.

Just look at that list - nothing between April and September. Seriously lol? Plenty of games have released since FF7 Remake

They already make less than $15 per $60 game. Throwing in a $10 cert only makes sense if they are going to get a break from the publisher. That's why you never see Sony taking part.

I use the 10 dollar cert as a guide to know what not to preorder because the game will be half price in 6 months, thus saving 30 dollars instead of 10

Unless a Nintendo game gets a 10 dollar cert. Then you might as well pre-order since that'll be the best deal that game gets for at least a year.

Totally. Not arguing their decision. I'm not involved in the company. My only point is that there's no effort to be competitive, especially now that they've made the digital option cheaper in most cases (ie discounted credit galore, plus/gold discounts)

Not going to happen. They brought in GCU with the goal of becoming the #1 videogame retailer and that didn't happen even with $10 certs and magazine coupons. They just can't compete with how many locations GameStop, Target and Walmart have so it had to go. Better to cancel the program and lose a few sales then to continue making only $1-2 on each game.

Interested to see how the gamble pays off. If more customers are like me, then it absolutely did not. If not, well good for them.

Personally, GCU brought me to BB's website and b&m locations and often resulted in me buying something else, like a movie. One of the last times I used GCU in store, I came across a pair of bluetooth buds that looked nice but cheap. Checked a couple reviews, then bought it. It was $5 more than Amazon, but since I was already there and needed a pair eventually, I happily paid the premium. Now they won't get that traffic.

Does anybody know offhand the subject line in the email for the discount when your GCU runs out?

Thanks
Thank you, ajh2298. Save 25% off the game of your choice.

Fair warning, i got mine in March, and held on to the code and tried to use it on ghost of Tsushima CE, and it didn't work. They gave me a bs reason about how it couldn't be used on a preorder, but also admitted that others had been complaining about it not working, so I hope you have better luck then me

Was hoping to see the sports games added as they've done almost every year but not looking good :(
Yea, it's not looking good. EA had their EA Play Live show last month. I think if they had plans to continue with the promo, Best Buy would have announced at that time.

Yeah, the codes expired but shouldn't have. The page it linked me to showed as "expired" and the code wouldn't work despite it clearly stating it expired on Sept. 6, 2020. I was going to use it for Paper Mario (which was a pre-order at the time, it was on Tuesday of the release week). I pulled up support chat, tried the number and the hold was ridiculous. It took a little explaining, but she told me to order it, give her the order number and she would apply a credit to the payment method. The credit didn't go through until I was charged, but I did get an email about it and it showed up after the game shipped along with the charge ($59.99 charge plus tax, then a $14.99 credit - which technically I shouldn't have been charged tax on the full amount, but I took it as a win in the end).

Good for you. The person I chatted with was as useful as a wet rock. Ironically, if they had actually tried to help and gotten me the CE at the 25% off, i would have lost it, since my nearly full price order (i had a birthday in July, so I used my 10% off) got canceled anyways

Does anyone have experience with updating a cards expiration date on a GCU order where the GCU has expired? I know if I do it on my own I will lose my discount. I tried contacted support via the forums....but since the name on the credit card is a family members and not mine, they refused to help, which is idiotic. I assume I should take screenshots and stuff of the order as it sits now and then call them and explain (or try to explain to the un-informed CSR) and then let them adjust the price back down or something?

Hopefully that all made sense.

Well that was a stupid goal from the beginning. It should have been a first and foremost and vehicle for foot traffic. If gaming is such a low-profit margin venture, with so many other areas to focus on, it's odd for them to focus so much on being a gaming leader, especially as things become more digital. To that end, why would they want to beat Gamestop in an environment that no longer supports the business model? Just seems like a misguided decision all around.

Also it's incredibly stupid for them to have made "#1 games retailer" the primary goal when a) there are so many better opportunities (smart home, appliances, tvs), b) the industry is moving more towards digital (even when GCU first began), and c) the market they are trying to take from Gamestop has already left. It's like putting all your money into competing against Radioshack

There’s still plenty of money to be made in the next few years, and that’s what would matter most to them. Not to mention, even as weakened as Gamestop is, them closing would still leave a significant vacuum many will aim to take.

Pretty sure you are screwed either way - if you update it or a CSR updates it you will lose the GCU discount. I'd love to be wrong about that, but I don't think the system will allow the payment change without running the order again and this time you don't have GCU.

Like you said there is a slight chance a CSR will manually adjust the price back down if you explain it to them, but it won't happen automatically, and I wouldn't count on it.

You're screwed. Kiss that GCU discount goodbye!

I agree with the others. You’re screwed, unless you can get a CSR to manually adjust after the fact. Gonna be tough, most likely.

The list of eligible games is awful. Between far fewer credits and loss of GCU, I don't think BB is even trying anymore.

Can you please buy a fucking clue before you rant about how business works?

My GCU expired over a year ago, but I dealt with an expired card and had a CSR adjust it and they assured me that the discount would remain. Once they updated the card the discount was gone and I asked if they could adjust it and they wouldn't because I didn't have GCU anymore... So I was SOL. I hope you have better luck than me.

Don’t have the time or the inclination. But just know your ranting makes you look like an uninformed idiot. I’m pretty sure any business 101 course at the community college will solve your problem
No time to make an intellectual statement, but time to make more insults. Got it.
