Has anyone been to the Braintree, MA Best Buy. Just wondering so that that I won't make a trip over there for nothing if they don't have any guides left.

Was just at the Utica, Michigan Bestbuy last night. I scored Breakdown, Crash n Burn, Astro Boy, and a demo disc that had Front Mission 4 on it (jampack summer 2k4). Each game was in plenty supply, except Astro Boy, which there are only 3 copies left as of last night (I would have bought them all, but FYE never has anything I like for a reasonable price anyway). The demo disc was only $.99 as well.

i went to another BB today and i scored 2 ncaa march madness, 2 jak 3 guides, a kotor 2 guide, and a xenosaga 2 guide. these guides are all up for trade so PM me with what you have and maybe we can work out a deal

I got THUG, Castlevania, MoH, DB:GT, Metal Arms (Xbox) and the Xenosaga 2 guide. THUG and Castlevania's boxes were kind of beat up and the guide had some impurities, but who gives a fuck when they are that cheap :D

I just stopped by a BB in West Palm Beach, FL and picked up NCAA MM 2005 and Tomb Raider for $4.99. The only guides I could find were LOTR TTA and FN round 2. I got all that for $10.65. I really wanted Psi Ops but they didn't have it or Crash N Burn.

Anyone have a Psi Ops they would like to trade?

BTW, thanks for the heads up on these deals. When I saw the guides ring up for a penny in my head I was saying YES!!

I've got an extra copy of Psi-Ops....Pm me with what cheapass games you have for trade

wondering

if there was a guide at Best buy that sold for a penny and you got that guide for say 15 bucks that same day at CC would they price match that.

Just think

15 - 1 cent = 14.99 difference meaning they would pay you 1.50 + free guide???

FYI if you search for Astro Boy on bestbuy.com, you'll find a very obscene cd called Blood, Guts, and Pussy that happens to have a track called Astro Boy.

Went to BB today and picked up NCAA Football 2005 and RE4 Guide. They had a lot of copies of Breakdown and NCAA Football and one Metal Gear Solid Acid Guide. I think I might go pick them up tomorrow.

I managed to get almost everything on my want list of the $4.99 titles. I would've picked up FIFA 2005 and Breakdown if they were there, but I managed to pick up for $32.xx with tax:

DBGT Final Bout(PSX) x2
Medal of Honor(PSX)
Astro Boy(PS2)
Psi-Ops(PS2)
THUG(GBA)

There were plenty of Astro Boy's to go around and 1 extra THUG for GBA, so I might be willing to pick up some for others if they wish. Just PM me an offer.

Thanks OP!

I can get copies of Astro Boy (PS2), NCAA Football 2005 (GC), Psi-Ops (PS2), Castlevania (GBA), the 04 sports games and maybe some others (I think I've seen all of them at my BB except for March Madness).

I'll ask for $9 shipped for a game to cover cost of packaging etc. I am pretty sure I won't be able to get the coupon to work for every game (have only had luck with it once) but if I can manage to at least get one for free, that could drive costs lower (theoretically).

Anyways, PM me if interested.

Woot! Thanks OP got:

Guides
Tekken 5
Metal Gear Ac!d

Jak III

Astro Boy (x) 4 for FYE $18.00 credit each!#^%$@#$!!!!#%@#

My BB is usually very quick to dispose of penny guides, but not this time. I went back today to grab replacements for a couple guides I'm trading and they still have quite a few left.

2 Tekken 5 guides at Daytona, FL. 1 got one left one. Cashier commented about how some ass bought a ton of guides earlier in the day.

Fun!
Are the Jak3 guides the ones with the shrink wrap on them???
I've found Jak 3 guides both shrinkwrapped and not. Both still a penny :) .

I went back today and grabbed three of the Astroboys. When I went over to FYE, they said I had to be 18 (I'm 17) and that they wouldn't take doubles. So I have 2 spares I guess, if anyone wants one.

I went to the Clackamas store in Clackamas, OR this evening around 6. No $4.99 PS2 or GCN games left. Didn't spot anything in the Xbox section either, but I didn't look through it thoroughly so there might be something left I didn't see.

There were plenty of the $4.99 PlayStation games left though (DBZ Final Bout was the only one that stood out). I also spotted one copy of the GBA NES Classics Castlevania, and the card next to it said $14.99, so if any local CAG'ers want to try their luck it still might be there.

The only things I bought were some penny guides - RE4 (1 copy left) and NFSU2 (2 copies left). I remember seeing some MGS and Tekken guides too.

Thanks OP! :)

i feel like a jerk for cleaning out the best buy i went to but i was talking to an employee who actually knew what i was doing and assisted me in grabbing all the guides left and he pointed out the other prices drops i knew what they were but he didnt know that but i have at least 3 copies of each guide for trade or sale if anyone is looking for them except jax 3 and kotor 2 but i still have 2 more stores to hit up before the week is over so i hope fully will get more

Just go tomorrow(assuming you bring someone 18). Thats what i did.

Went to BB today, and picked up the devil may cry 3 guide. They had LOTR TTA, NFSU2, and Tekken 5, but I decided I already had too many guides and I didn't even have two of those games. The Tekken 5 I was about to get actually, but a guy wanted to buy it, and I decided to just give it to him. (The funny thing is he was buying the game also so he prob thought the guide would still be 15 bucks)

If anyone is looking for an extra game for a EB tradein deal, Astro Boy is excluded but March Madness is not.

Astro Boy gets $18 at FYE and is POX at EB . . . which store is on the ball with game trade deals???

BTW, having played it, I think the game really, really sucks. Unfortunate because the theme is pretty cool.

How do you guys know how much FYE will give you on trade ins? Is there a list available or did you just ask the clerk at the store?

Does anyone have an extra psi ops they might like to trade?

Went to the Best Buy in Springfield, VA and they didn't have any of the guides on the 1st page except for 1 Fight Night Round 2 (still there if anyone wants it). In the past I have gotten the penny guides at that store even 2-3 weeks after they dropped, so that was a bit strange.

They did have a Ratchet & Clank UYA guide, though, and on a whim I brought it up front - lo and behold, it rang up 1 cent. Is that an older penny guide, or did I just discover a new one to add to the list? I'm out here working so I can't dig through the old penny guide list to see if it has been there before - but I'm pretty certain it wasn't on the last Best Buy penny guide list (with LOTR, GoldenEye, etc). So either it is a new drop or a fluke older guide that somehow made it to the sales floor.

Anyway, keep your eyes out for it. This is a game I actually have lined up to play pretty soon, so the guide will come in handy. All the other penny guides that I've seen are either games I already completed or don't have yet. I tend to pick up the ones for games I don't have just in case I want to play them eventually.

So this makes up a bit for the TRU I went to last week that had a shopping cart full of their penny guides, including several Viewtiful Joe 2 (another game I intended to play soon), that were slated for "disposal". They couldn't sell nor give them away according to the RZone guy (yet they left them in a cart right out in the open at the RZone - very frustrating).

Ratchet and Clank UYA was an earlier pennied out guide. It was pennied out not the last time around but before that with Crash Twinsanity, Star Wars Battlefront, etc.

why do people think hoarding is wrong but dont think people running over to best buy buying 1-3 copies of each game and then running right over to FYE to trade in isnt??

i love my RE4 guide its all mine MINE Runs down hallway screaming

I went to pick up VF4 and THPS4 (with the $5 coupon), but couldn't use it because the games were clearance items.

Such is life.

Ugh, who was the asshat who bought 8 copies of Psi-Ops and 3 or 4 copies of Tomb Raider at the Burnsville MN store yesterday afternoon? Damn hoarders...

has anyone noticed that on bestbuy.com, most of the guides talked about in this thread showed up as "page unavailable", or something like that, but now they are not even on the site anymore??

This batch of $0.01 guides never made it to the website, AFAIK. The last ones, three or so weeks back, did.

I guess BB is wiseing up to putting them on the site. Feh.

Arbitrary designations... IMO buying multiple copies of a particular game for any purpose is considered hoarding, whether it's to trade in to another store or even just to keep. But of course, I arbitrarily assign 2 as the threshold; any more than 2 copies and it's hoarding. All in all, to each his own, early bid gets the worm and all that jazz. :/

I just got back from the Kingston, NY BB and all the $4.99 games were gone, but I did manage to pick up one each of the following guides:

Goldeneye: Rogue Agent
Jak 3 (Sealed)
Lord of the Rings: The Third age (Sealed)
Mechassault 2: Lone Wolf
Men of Valor
Need For Speed Underground 2
NFL Street 2
Resident Evil 4
Star Wars: KOTOR II
Star Wars: Republic Commando
Tekken 5

All for a whopping 12 cents!

All are for trade, even RE4 (I picked up another copy at my local BB in Pearland,TX), so check my tradelist below to see what guides I'm looking for.

would just like to say thanks. Went to best buy here in kansas all the guides were gone but I did manage to pickup Astro Boy and Psi Ops also managed to snag the last copy of Max Payne 2 for 9.99!

went to 86th st. NYC Best Buy, nothing left except for Men of Valor.
However I was there yesterday and there were about 12 NFSU2 guides, and today none.
Hoping not just one person took those and a bunch of CAGS got em instead.

Just bought a copy of Tomb Raider and a Tekken 5 guide. Bought a $10 Fathers day gift card just so it wouldnt look like i was paying a penny for everything.

So the $5 off PSP/PS2 coupon doesn't work on the $4.99 games (like Psi-Ops, etc)? I thought some CAG were able to get these games for free.

It should work, I was able to get both Psi Ops and Astro Boy for free on two separate visits. It may be a YMMV thing where certain cashiers raise a stink about it, but it does work in the system.

Yep, definitely works. As others have said, it helps to buy other stuff at the same time - then they don't even notice. I bought a Psi-Ops with the coupon, and also got a GBA THUG for $5, an Xbox Breakdown for $5, and a few penny guides. The cashier couldn't have cared less that my total was $10 and change...

However, I wouldn't have had the nerve to try JUST the 1 game with coupon and get it for free - doesn't seem worth the hassle. One thing no one notes about the coupon is that it says "No Copies" in the fine print. They could deny it for that reason alone. Yes, WE all know that they were distributed like that (looking like copies) but that wouldn't mean squat if they didn't want to give you the game for free - and you wouldn't really have any basis to argue about it.

On the other hand, I have always printed them full page and have never had them denied except for about 50% of the time they will only take 1 (and not the 2 that I have tried), so I had to pick just one game to buy. It does seem that the cashiers are used to seeing the coupons now and they must have been instructed from on high that they are OK (they don't deny based on the "copy" clause). They used to look at them a while and read all the fine print. Now they just scan, hit OK on their screens, and move on. The only YMMV seems to be if they will allow you to do more than one at a time.

For you DC CAG's, Bailey's Crossing Best Buy in Virginia had GBA THUG, Xbox Breakdown, XIII, and a few others still available (after I left :D). I think they had a decent selection because they didn't mark the games down - THUG was still marked $19.99, for example.

I also went to 2 other Best Buys in the area. The one odd thing is that there were almost none of the new penny guides. I found the R&C UYA that I mentioned earlier, and a few others from the last price drop (like Spyro, LOTR, GoldenEye, NFL Street 2, etc), but only 3 of the new ones. It seems that, unlike last time, they have uniformly cleared their normal shelfs of the penny guides (or people have bought them all up in the last few days, which I don't think is the case because of all the older ones they still have). They must have gotten some instructions from corporate or district managers or something to get rid of them. I was only able to find a NFSU2 and Republic Commando because they weren't in the normal guide sections (this was in the Potomac Yard Best Buy and they have about 4-5 of each after I got my 1 copy). The NFSU2 were off by themselves in a different area and the Republic Commando was in the "Star Wars" display. I wish they had a KOTOR2 though... gonna pick that game up for PC when it hits $20.

Visited Best Buy... I got:

KOTOR II Guide
Tekken 5 Guide
Xenosaga II Guide
NFSU 2 Guide
& Astroboy

For the grand total of 0.04! The cashier was awesome and just laughed at the great deal I got.

Also, they had at least 5 copies left of each guide I mentioned... If anyone wants to post or PM me any requests I'd be glad to help fellow CAG's out. I would have bought some to trade, but I didn't want to push it.

Once again I must reiterate my hatred of Best Buy. No, this is no longer a hatred of Best Buy. I loath Best Buy. I despise Best Buy. I've had it up to here with them. fuck BEST BUY! fuck YOU BEST BUY! fuck you Best Buy. There is not one corporation in this world more than Best Buy that I hate and would love fucking die and rot in eternal damnation. I hope that they go bankrupt with a fury.

But I'm getting ahead of myself.

So this is how my story goes. So today I remember that my one lady friend is supposed to be having her birthday this weekend. So not really knowing what to get her I decide I'll get her a box set of her favorite show since she really likes it and talks about it quite often. So I get in there and don't find the season of it that I'm looking for. Oh well, I still have a few days I'll look else where I think to myself. But like any good CAG and gamer, I head over to the game section just to peruse it. Low and behold I find a Tomb Raider that I've trying to find ever since these markdowns. Also, I find a SW: Republic Commando guide, which I know is .01, and a PoP: WW guide which I've been trying to find for a long time and which I know has been pennied out since a few weeks back or so. I also find some of those X-Arcade MechAssault 2 discs that turn out to be free. So I grab a couple (one for me and one for my friend). Instantly like a flash of lightning, some fucking employee (seemed like a manager trainee) comes out and says that it can only be one per customer. Not really feeling in the mood to argue with him I just take one and think that my friend will just have to go by himself to get one. I head up to check out where I stand in line for what seems like an eternity for the cashier to ring up the 3 people ahead of me, when I finally make it up to her. Then, again as though lightning had struck, these two fucking employees/managers come upto me and start BS to me how they've talked to me in the past before and that they won't sell the guides to me and will only do them at 7.99. I said to the "what the hell! Have I done something wrong, I'm just getting rung up here". They keep on harrassing me even though I haven't done anything to the point where I'm just fed up with it. At this point I've taken enough of their bullshit and just dropped all the items I was holding and just told to their faces that Best Buy and them could all go fuck themselves and that I hope they fucking rot in hell and stormed out. Great night, have always been wanting to say that to Best Buy and was finally pushed to the point of doing it.

To all Vegas CAGs out there, and I know there are a lot of you on this board, stay away from the Stephanie/Marks Street Best Buy. They are just not worth it. That store in particular is the worst store i have ever been to. just thinking about what happened there makes me want yell out. fucking assholes. I have never been treated at a store like they have treated me. And all of this is after I had complained to BBB and BB Corporate. I had thought that something had been done with that store. The time earlier in the week that I had gone had the fat bastard of manager there that I complained about to BB Corporate, but today there was a different manger so I guess my bitching to them wasn't widespread at that store. Should have gotten that manager's name and bitched and complained again to them.

Anyway, I will still do my civil CAG duty and say that if there are any Vegas CAGs out there that are wanting some guides, then that store seems to have gotten more Need for Speed: Underground 2 guides. They also have a couple PoP: WW and one Republic Commando if that hasn't been taken to the garbage or to the back and destroyed.

End of rant.
