Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

*edit* Serious business here, folks.
I saw your post, wondered what you were smoking, and then realized he edited his equation, which was wrong. He was saying multiplying by 0.6 is wrong before he changed it. (It was obviously not a typo.)

And I'm on mobile, so I can't exactly see a post was edited... And for the most part, I have him on ignore, so I can't can't exactly quote his post, or see immediately that he changed it.
i purchased a used game from best buy a few weeks ago.... but lost the receipt... they now have that same used game for $10 less.... i used a CC when i bought it...
any chance i can get them to price match me the new price and give me the 10$ difference?
They can also look up your purchase if you used your Rewards Zone card.

I was going to use my 30$ worth of bestbuy credit to get a final fantasy 13-2 and a batman ac with the coupons so I can flip them to gs for around 56$ but I fear that on sunday the tiv for both games will tank. Should I just use that credit to buy 6 copys of rage and flip them instead ?

GS base is 16 FF13-2, 19 BAC, 6.5 Rage when I trade on Tues.

You get more if you do 1 of each.
6x6.5=39
16+19+6.5=41.5

Are the coupon on keyring app 1 time use?

It is my understanding per talking to a BBGamer Dude tonight ("Gaming Specialist"), that the one (1) title for the same platform re: Trade-In goes into effect on April 1st, 2012 (albeit about 48 hours from now).

I traded in a shit ton of games today in lieu of getting that 160 GB PS3 Console w/ Free DualShock that's on sale next week. I think they counted up 21 games I traded in. I have never traded in more than two (2) of the same title/same platform but I REALLY hit them hard when MLB 12: The Show :ps3: came out with the $20 off the Vita version. Traded in x two (2) Bodycount :ps3:, x two (2) Bodycount :360:, x two (2) Call of Juarez: The Cartel :ps3: and x two (2) Call of Juarez: The Cartel :360:. At the time (and I think it's still "Live"), Bodycount on both systems was garnering $11.00/each ( + the 40%/+50% GCU), and The Cartel games were getting $9.00/each. The Cartel games, however, are down to $5 or $6 (depending on the version now; and they should be garnering about $2.00, along with Bodycount, IMHO).

It seems like two or three years ago they went all Nazi on trading in multiples of the same title (I think at the time, it was two (2) of the same title/same console per year). They laxed up and must have been getting hit hard to implement the new rules (which mind you (most likely), too, will pass.

What's up with this "Ban" I keep hearing about in this thread? I know BB doesn't give two shits about throwing the "Ban" status on people (usually it's very subtle and you can't get a straight answer out of them re: "Why has my ability to purchase Online titles evaporated?", etc.

wish they had a price adjust on trade ins, i traded in $150 worth of games last week with the 40% bonus, another 10% is another $15...
Not to say BB sucks because as a whole it doesn't I got great deals and in fact some of the best tiv's out there. It's just I can see why they are forcing to close some stores with my experiences. Some of the employees they hired at my local best buy are complete dumbasses and are completely idiotic. I had to sometimes wait 10-15 minutes to trade a game in, not because of lines but because no one would even come to help me at the trade in counter. A lot of other people don't know how the fucking system works and well it is not fun trying to explain it to them .
Some of the employees at the WB store are pretty dumb/lazy, but the main trade in guy there named Tony knows what he's doing and gets ya in n outta the store in 10-15 tops. I actually had him order me a copy of :ps3:Dead Island pre-owned from the Whitehall store on Wednesday. It's supposed to be shipped to the DC store by 4/3 for me.;)

So not everybody is completely useless at your local store.:booty:
How often these questions are popping up greatly alarms me.
That's because everybody answers the questions, thus meaning more people can just ask them and expect an answer. If more people were obstinant like me and refused to answer them, then those people asking might have to find their own answer.;)
But more likely they would just keep asking till someone gave em the answer.

FYI, the guy at the front of the store doing security will call an employee to the trade kiosk as you enter the store and head over there. When you walk in tell him you're doing a trade in and a person will be there when you get back there. If this fails to happen, again use the front guy and ask him to call someone back there as you come in. That's the current company system they put in when the kiosks went in to place.

Since I've been doing so many trades to them I already know the people to look for at both stores, so I just flag them down myself usually.;)
i purchased a used game from best buy a few weeks ago.... but lost the receipt... they now have that same used game for $10 less.... i used a CC when i bought it...
any chance i can get them to price match me the new price and give me the 10$ difference?
you can find purchases on the myRZ.com site under your purchase history, click on the option to print a duplicate receipt, take it to CS & they can print out one for you. You can use the customer kiosks in store.

Honestly, if the deals weren't so good at Best Buy right now, I can't imagine that I would ever trade with them.

Man, the trade-in process takes so damn long at Best Buy ...(and this is my experience at the several stores I've gone to that are within 15 minutes of my house)

It just takes forever to get somebody to come to the register, and the actual process of ringing you out is suuuuuch a slog to go through in terms of it taking a long time.

Not to mention that the trade-in machines seem to be ALWAYS down. Like I said, I have three stores within driving distance that I use based upon where my errands/situation take me (work, home, gym, groceries, etc.) and during this week they have all been down at 1 point and have been unable to accept my trades. The part that has not been working has been the "biometrics scanner" as they call it in the store. It used to requrie fingerprints (I believe) but now requires a drivers license. Anyway, it has been broken and has caused me to have to leave the store 3 times already during the week. Extremely annoying.

Gamestop does it much better in all honesty (no matter how much I hate to say it).

Just did some trade ins today and CSR did say 1 title per platform per year but then I told her I heard it starts April 1st. So she looked it up and confirmed that its 3 per until April 1st when it changes to 1 per.

BB credit is convertible to cash while GS isn't. I agree GS is more efficient at the POS but it takes me forever to unload on my GS credit. I will take BB credit over GS anyday. It doesnt even compare. I think i'm stuck with $300 of GS credit lol.

I go through BB credit like water. Judging by the activity in the various BB threads here, a lot of members dont have a problem doing so either.

I'll take your GS credit if you don't want it :D... Also, if your BB carries Amazon kindle cards you can buy them with your trade in credit. That's a huge incentive for me to trade in at BB over GS, even if I'll get a little less.
Anyone ask if it's retroactive or if the 1 per title starts ticking on April 1?
That's a good question, I'll ask my gaming rep when I'm there on Sunday.

Well i am going to assume they are updating the system to prevent more than one per year because I know for a fact I traded more than 3 of one title per system this past year and they NEVER stopped me or banned me. It won't matter if they change it to 1 per year unless the computer system prevents it or CS rep are more vigilant.

Well that sucks. I'm glad I got in my last trade of three the other day then. So much for Sunday's @Gamer coupon bonanza. I guess maybe I'll just sell the games n novellas seperate on CL locally for $30 n $10 each.:whistle2:#

Not sure if it's anyone elses stores, but system was down at my local BB. System wouldn't process giftcards nor look up BB rewardzones.

No problem here. Traded in my Mario Kart 7 with no issues.

From what I could gather, it was down sometime around 6pm until .. whenever it came up, it was still down when I left.

How accurate is the trade-in estimator? Just checked BF3 ($18) and Zelda: OoT 3DS($16). Anyone trade these in recently and can confirm? Thanks :) I also need to sign up for GCU, looks like tomorrow will be a busy day in Best Buy lol.

EDIT: Also, does BB take disc only games or require the box? Thinking of trading in NSMB Wii and got it from the Red Wii which didn't come with a box. Thanks :)

And the estimator is 100%.

I also had issues with the network being down. However the supervisor, who was also a fellow CAGer, just wrote a note and signed it, saying that I would get the same credit's worth on Sunday.

Hello $72 :) !

shoot I thought it was until April 1st, guess I should head into BB tomorrow than and trade in my game...

and man hopefully i'm not banned either! I don't think I ever broke the 3 per title per system, but it's a pain with no way to look it up online...
How do you convert bbs credit to cash? Last time I tried to buy a visa gift card with credit they said I couldn't do it.
Unless somethings changed, you can. they lied.

They have to put youre using a giftcard to pay for everything. It's something like hitting F11
for the correct prompts to come up to let you use it.
^Amazon Kindle card.

wanted to pm a game but didn't have the ad and I know some stores were able to check online.

the gaming person sent me to regular checkout since he said they can only lookup Best Buy stuff. there I was informed they don't have access to look stuff up online and to go to customer service. cs said their system was down. one of the cs ladies said I could show them on my phone - but I don't have a smartphone. then another guy asked what store (TRU) and he said oh if it were Best Buy he could look it up on his phone. wtf :bomb: that same store I had a lady lookup gamestop on her phone and gave me the PM.

I had a game to trade in but figured with their "system" down and me wanting to get home I'd try tomorrow - Saturday aka the worse day to go out

Fact. I'm debating about locking in the price at Amazon, but then I'm afraid if I get in the habit of doing that and then never sending packages that I'm going to get my Amazon account suspended ha.

So cancel the Amazon trade? You can cancel the trades if you can't send in the items with no penalty...
hey im sorry if this was mentioned but do they pay less if you dont have the original case or cover art
No, you get the same value with or without cover art. I haven't traded in a disc by itself, but have done a couple (PS3/360) in just dvd cases with no covers, and received the full value.

Not only is the 1 per system per title limit going into effect(supposedly) on Sunday, but also that 50% promo is ending TODAY. I wonder if I could just buy them today with the coupon, trade em in for $25 n change each and then go back tomorrow to PM the additional discount.;)
So cancel the Amazon trade? You can cancel the trades if you can't send in the items with no penalty...
I've just heard that too many cancellations of trade-ins are one of the flags to get account suspension (since they are actually paying for shipping which then you don't use)

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is still giving $16 at BBY today, so trade in a copy you have and just rebuy it tomorrow with a coupon. You're looking at $25.60 at BBY versus $21.60 at Amazon (With the gamer club unlocked membership)

I don't think they 'pay' until it is scanned at the UPS store or wherever you ship it...otherwise every online retailer that has a 'free return shipping' slip in the box is flushing money down the drain.

It's a good thing that I made that bestbuy flip book last year to keep track of my trade ins. Now I'm really going to need it with these rule changes :(

I never did anything like that and solely relied on my memory to kick in before trading in copy #4 of a game. But it failed me on at least one game:)360:Resident Evil Gold). Mind ya, if I knew if the banhammer was inbound for all the dupes I've done I'd go all out n trade in like 12 copies of everything I could get my hands on with a decent profit margin. Go out in a flipping blaze of glory.
