Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).
Yeah, you'll be fine. It's definitely not tied in with Driver Licenses, since I've done the same exact thing that you are about to do.
I think what eXION means is that your RZ card is not tied to your drivers license.

Make sense as RZ cards are often shared among family/etc., where as the bans are for individuals.

I had my sister do my last trade for me, she even told them she was doing it for me (I told her to say that so they wouldn't ask her a million questions about whether or not she liked the games). No issue. 20 some games, in and out in like 15 minutes.

Cool, that makes sense. She'd be using my reward zone card.. probably my cell # and email address. They actually never really ask for my reward zone card and always look me up by my #, then later ask for my email address. I asked them if my info doesn't pull up correctly with my phone # and I forgot what they said exactly, but something about how they pull up my reward zone info by my phone #, then pull up the rest of my info by my email address. They said it doesn't pull up all the info for some reason.

Funny that you told your sister to say that. I've had my wife pick up my preorder of Tales of Graces f from GS and she was telling me how they went off about how they were so excited for it and if she's played all of the other Tales of games before. She said she just went along with it and said yes, then when asked which was her favorite she said 'all of them' lol.

Traded in my 5 games today....got $72.50 I believe.

-Twisted Metal
- Uncharted 3
- Medal of Honor
- Homefront
- Halo ODST

Got my 10% it appears.
Banned? For what?
I was a flipper but never went over the 3 limit back in the days, possibly once or twice because I wasn't keeping track . Whatever it is, I deserved it

i feel the same exact way. 99% of people who got banned probably deserve it.

disclaimer: I am also banned haha.

Lots of credit to you guys. I made a couple of trades today:
Band Hero PS3 $4
Front Mission Evolved PS3 $7
Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock PS3 $1
Mass Effect 3 360 $11

After bonuses $48.30. Hope this post helps others out there.

I admit I kinda deserved the ban too, since I did to the 3 limit on virtually everything(Blockbuster sale games, B2G2 PS2 shit sports titles from GS, etc) save for 2x when I traded in my personal game collections. Within a year or two of them starting to take trades(originally they did em at customer service and NO promos:cry:) I had amassed enough of a collection of unique titles to once again trade in 30+ titles with NO duplicates.

But hell, every trade in between those two unique trades was 3 of everything and I think I only ever went over the limit on two titles:)360:RE 5 Gold and one other one). With the new 1 limit(which I still say is valid cuz it was quoted to me by multiple people at two stores) I woulda likely cut back to only trading my personal collection anymore.
i feel the same exact way. 99% of people who got banned probably deserve it.

disclaimer: I am also banned haha.
I would love to know how many games you guys are doing. In the past year I traded about 180 games to BBY (some duplicates) so I am going to assume this is pittance compared to the banned traders.

I'd like to thank confoosious again for helping answer my question. Went in today, and the guy hooked me up with my $21 credit that he missed yesterday. All went smooth, well, besides having to get 3 Gift Cards (1 for my total trade in, 1 for 10% GCU, and the other for Uncharted 3 that was missed yesterday.) All in all though, I'm just glad that got fixed.

Well that sucks, but at least you enjoyed the ride while it lasted right? :D

Now, like what people have said before, what stops you from taking in a friend and having him trade all your stash too?

Then again, not sure how much you actually traded or if you amassed a big collection first before dumping all of them in.

So what I still have a question about, is this rumored limit 1 per console dealio. What I mean is, if I trade 1 copy of Skyrim right now, I won't be able to trade in another even if 6 months have passed or such?
honestly, the truth is no one knows for sure what gets you ban for sure, so do so at your own risk

Yay! It's not often I get to be helpful.

Partially true. But mostly people asking dumb questions that are already in the OP shouldn't be helped.

I posted a thread on the BB forums seeking an official answer from one of the mods there regarding the trade limit per title per year.

http://forums.bestbuy.com/t5/Best-B...e-per-year-for-the-Best-Buy/m-p/527468#M72313

Hopefully I'll get an actual official response from one of the mods, since the only response thus far has been from Jimmienomam(who's also registered here).

And holy ninja editing, Batman. This thread has lost some weight since I last checked it.

yeah. posts in this thread seem to disappear often...

holy cow. difficult day. good flips all over tho.

but wow. they forgot 10% gcu, so i had to get that fixed.
then they put lbp2 as s.e. so i got 6 instead of 10, had to get that fixed.
then the $10 off $35 mw3 didnt work cuz they had put the 13.30 i was owed in tiv as a discount so it didnt auto take off 10 from 35. so i got that fixed...

busy day, but all in all i got a cheap copy of mw3 for my grrl and alot of credit from gamestop/psn+ flips. im tired now, so im just gonna work/toke the day away ;)

peace all cags and thanx

n yeah the 60% last week would have got me more than 110% this week on quite a few games, but no big loss.
games like assault horizon / max payne 3 / spiderman edge of time took a drop, but then lots of $5-11 games stayed still like sniper and heavy fire afgan etc.

For anyone who is looking to flip some credit from TRU to Best Buy. I found on clearance
PS3 Bakugan Defenders of the Core 9.98 (Base trade in @ BB $9)
Wii Jimmy Johnson's Anything with an Engine 9.98 (Base trade in @ BB $6)

Since they are under 19.99 they qualify for the b1 get 1 40% off
My total for both games after taxes $17.44

Trade in credit after bonus and gamers unlocked was $31.50

I also saw de Blob 2for 9.98. (base trade in @ BB $5) Can get slightly above a straight trade of credit when paired with another 9.98 game that trades for $5 base

Going to post this in a couple of other threads because I know how posts can get lost in the large threads

same thing happened to me. They put in the wrong game...twice! I spent 45 minutes browsing in the store while they fixed it. Its such a hassle when they make a mistake, next time I'm going to ask to see what they put in the system before it goes through.

So what is with the deleted posts? I cannot post how many games I traded to BBY anymore? Some mod needs to remove stick from butt.

I just got back from unloading old games I will never touch again (some never even played, bought because of a great sale, but collects dust still in the wrapper).

Traded 11 games, got $174, compared if I traded to GameStop with their Trade promotion I would of only got $95.

The one thing I dread at BestBuy while trading in, is the sales associate WILL ask after EACH game he scans, So Why are you trading this in? How was this game?. It wouldent bother me IF each time I trade games, I trade 10-20 games at a time, so essentialy something that can take 10 mins to complete, literraly takes about 30 mins.

yeah guys cmon. give the mods a break and quit posting your best buy trade ins in this thread. there are specific threads to post what games you traded in and where you traded them to... 'sarcasm if you can't tell'

yeah. i hate when they mess up my stuff. today was just the worst cuz the manager kept giving me looks and not understanding the math. she's like well, 10 for lbp2 and 6 for lbp2 se is only $4 difference, and im like yeah but 110% bonus, so that's 8.40 im out. and she couldnt understand that. and thats after i told them to look it up little space big space. they kept putting littlebigplanet and only s.e. showed up. ugh. it didnt help the employees had no idea what they were doing either. oh well. all worked out in the end but i told the manager i hope im not banned over $13 of lost trade ins. she's like oh no and smiles awkwardly. lol

i want to get rid of all these games i got for $5 and will never play, but i want to give them the attention of at least an hour each. that is hard for craptastic games like Thor / gi joe / etc... but i wanna try to get at least like a tutorial trophy out of it ;)

they dont ask me anything about the games. im just doing 1 game each now, so its easier than explaining 3 games each. but i just tell the chic hey im banned so my grrl is trading these in. sucks cuz then i walk away and pick up my dotd's or kindle cards or whatev and now twice something has messed up. lbp2/se mistake, 10% gcu mistake. oh wellz. my son always runs to the move controllers so i gotta chase him down.

yea basic math skills are failing in america in a bad way. once i was somewhere bought something for 99 cents and the computer was down so they had to calculate the tax manually. they came up with a total of 2.07 is what i owed. you know over 100% tax rate. i its somewhat mind boggling how bad basic math skills are failing in this country. trust me i am no math person but i do know the basics

im good at math so i love flip math. i mean im not an engineering student but i got my A's in calculus / stat n prob / college math all easy. i understand percentage/decimal/fraction problems, but cmon, know your own stores bonuses etc. It was like pulling teeth trying to get her to understand how i turned 4 into 8.40. and how 10% of 49 should be 4.90 so 13.30 total discount on my purchase. she was just like ugh whatever and override for me, but im like, ugh im in the right here. im not trying to screw you out of money(well kinda, but besides the point) i just want to get the money i was supposed to get when you guys messed up. oh wellz

Wow. Looking through some of my backlog of games, some of these games are total turds - Fracture comes to mind. Not sure why I even bought them in the first place. I'll be glad to get rid of some of these, even if it only nets me $4 a game.

I had Fracture from the Blockbuster game sales one time. It was frickin' horrible. But I had wanted to try that(and Turning Point: Fall Of Liberty) for a long time. So for about $5 each I tried them, hated them and traded them in.

Fracture is the only game I ever played less than 10 minutes. I think I paid $5 for it new and I was still disappointed. Plus it was a Lucas Arts game, so I wanted it to be good.

I got rid of a alot of older 360/PS3 games that went for $5-$12 before bonus, only game I traded worth a damn was The Witcher Enhanced Edition 360, and thats only because I already own it for PC. Them little $5 junk games add up big time with this promotion.

Also: I tried searching the forum but found nothing; anyone know what a white DS Lite trades in for? The value estimator gives a whopping value of $0.00 - meaning it can't be traded in? I find it hard to believe that it won't even net me $0.25 when complete POS Playstation2 games get that much...

And a Google search nets this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat244200050021&type=category but it isn't linked anywhere on the main videogame trade-in site.

Best advice I can give you is that if it doesn't show up on the trade value estimator or if it has a zero value, then it has no value and is not being taken anymore by them.

That makes the most sense - thanks. Guess I'll just have to unload it at GameStop, then.

You're welcome. That page you found would've likely been your best chance to get rid of the old style DS systems, but unless it's part of their current promotions I doubt they'd honor it.

It seems like a lot of the deleted post dealt with talk of being banned, which is odd because if anything it discouraged not abusing the system.

I may end up getting rid of a bunch of games in my backlog by the time this is over, regardless if I have played them or not. I could play a game a day and still not be through them all by the end of the year.

Yeah. I kinda figured the people including me talking about how we got banned and detailing our activities would kinda act like a warning for others to NOT do the same stuff.

Of course, if the limits I've heard of from employees(50 games in a year, 1 per title) are 100% true, then a lot of the folks going 'Imma do 3x per title till I hear otherwise' may well be in the same boat soon enough.

Exactly, my post got moderated for asking a question regarding the game limit policy.

I'm just trying to take proactive steps here so I don't get screwed by with a ban.

I felt I took in many games and all I took in was 14 games.

I'd say that as long as you don't go over the one per title you should be good. But then again, many of us that got banned got banned because we did exactly the three per year limit on many titles. So it might be best to space out trades a lil bit apart from each other.

Of course if I were still allowed to do trades I'd probably be going whole hog this week with anything I could find that would gimme a two or three to one ratio return.;)

if that is true with the 50 games per yr, lots of ppl who traded in 50+ games during this weeks promotion, would be banned instantly during the next wave of ban. Oh IAmTheCheapestGamer, why don't you get a friend to trade in for you. ppl who were banned, had their gfs . friends and such trade in for them

Fast ball down the middle. I'm gonna take this pitch.

Yep. Took in a stack of games to trade in and figured it wouldn't hurt to ask in the store. The guy helping me (was friendly and helpful) figured I could at least get *something* for it even though it rang up at $0.00. A second blue shirt confirmed that they weren't taking them anymore, and suggested that I keep an eye out for a DS specific trade-in promo.

I've actually asked a few friends and family members and they just look at me like 'wtf'. They're either not gamers or they don't wanna get questioned why they're trading these games in. So I'm SOL for right now.:whistle2:#

Does anyone know when the 100% bonus credit promotion ends? This post says 6/8, the other says 6/9, and the employee today said end of the month.

Traded in 46 games of various degrees (360, PS3, DS) and got $350 worth of credit. Guess I'm 4 games shy of the unofficial "trade-in limit" for the year. But at least all of my games were unique without multiple copies of a single title!

Nah, BB will likely wait until the end of the year and then start cracking down by handing out bans in waves to the highest volume traders, just like last year.

Those expecting any kind of immediate repercussions aren't likely to see them and those thinking that they're safe because they don't see any immediate disciplinary action taken are likely in for a rude awakening later in the year.

Kinda sucks.. I traded in 10 games three weeks ago during the 50% bonus deal.. didn't think it'd get much better than that. Apparently I was wrong -_-

I'm still not banned... So either they're very slow (waiting for november?) Or hyou have to be flagged by someone? Iatcg seems like a boisterous person, more than likely bragging to anyone and everyone about gaming the system... I always act surprised when they do their, "holy crap you get double due to xyz..."

Still not worried of a ban either way though, would try a passport or make someone tag along
I'm still not banned... So either they're very slow (waiting for november?) Or hyou have to be flagged by someone?
The rep who did my PS2 sports game trade a while ago seemed annoyed that I had broken up his social hour and he had to do actual work for the 20-30 minutes it took to ring everything up. So I kinda figure that's when I got nailed, but it just took a long time to catch up to me. Maybe they were watching future trades to see if it followed the same pattern.

Even when I traded into GS, I had everything figured out right down to the last nickel with bonus promo and 10% for Edge/PUR. So as soon as they told me the total, I'd know if they were trying to sock me with refurb fees or some other shady garbage. Same thing at BB. But I was there so often either buying or trading that I knew the reps by name and we would shoot the shit while they processed the trades.

While I really should have adhered to the 'loose lips sink ships' mantra and not blabbed, I'm sure I probably did on more than a few occasions. But why it took so long for my trading habits to catch me is another thing. That leads me to believe it was one of my more recent slip ups that led to the banhammer finally. More than likely it was the Dead Island triple trade that got me. I guess maybe I was feeling bulletproof, since I had done prior trades of the TF: DOTM DS games right after buying them, so I figured I was untouchable. Boy, was I wrong.
Still not worried of a ban either way though, would try a passport or make someone tag along
Assuming I get an answer for my question I posed on the BB forums regarding trade limits, I'll post their answer here for everyone. Hopefully they can clarify if the 1 per title limit is chainwide or not and/or shed some light on if there's a game limit per year. I've heard 50 bandied about. We shall see.

I didn't mean the boisterous thing as an insult. I gloat at GS all the time, and one kid always contacts the gm/rm to try and get me price matching to keep my business there (I'm sure they love having their weekend golf interrupted lol)...

Anyways, I don't feel bulletproof, but I have done a couple buy/trade ins with the same chick, 3 days in a row. I always come in and she's like "oh there's mr regular"

I hate the hadley, ma store tho, their staff take 20-30 mins to do a trade in... and I've had to correct them multiple times (gotta love umass/amherst kids, future of america and dumb as fucking bricks)
