There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

BEST BUY'S VIDEO GAMES TRADE-IN PAGE

Check most up-to-date TIV using BB's Video Games Value Estimator.

In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracks on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but major updates seem to come on Sunday and Tuesday nights (or at least have in the past). Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually.

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, but word is that will change soon.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll likely need a state ID.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return.

Considering the fuck ton of lurkers it's kind of a moot point.

Like people say, there should be a private forum for trade in. Anyone can enter, but you gotta pass with questions like
"What's the limit of games u can trade in?"
"How would you convert credits from A store to B store?"
"Can you outrun the police?"
"Will you promise not to let them trace back to us?"
things like that
I'm sure others have better ways of finding games to trade but that's how I'd help, instead of giving you a list of what I'm trading in.
That's exactly how I do it too. In addition to scanning target clearance sales (that depend on CAG postings), AWD, and various other CAG postings. But I'm pretty small time with the $ amount I flip and I don't like to use cash, only store credit. My problem lately is that I want some GamStop credit and there haven't been any obvious deals (I liked the Kinect 2 for 1 sale in July although I only did it once, and TRU clearance sale buy 1 get one 50% off stacked with 25% discount, since I TRU credit from my credit card)

Test kitchen is where it's at!

3 test kitchens $4.99 at GS - $5 TIV BB
1 Bioshock 2 ps3 $7.99 at GS - $6 TIV BB

$21 plus credit and unlock credit = $43!
I don't like to use cash,
Me neither. I hate coughing up money unless it yields 3 or 4 times the amount :lol:
Most of my trades are coming from Craigslist.

Game -> GS Pre-PUR Cost -> Base BBy TiV

DJ Max Fever (PSP) -> $4.99 -> $5.00

Left Brain Right Brain 2 (DS) -> $4.99 -> $5.00
Amazing Adventures: The Forgotten Ruins (DS) -> $6.99 -> $6.00
Chronicles of Mystery: The Secret Tree of Life (DS) -> $8.99 -> $8.00
Crazy Chicken: Atlantis Quest (DS) -> $6.99 -> $5.00
Dream Chronicles (DS) -> $6.99 -> $5.00
Game Hits! 4 Games in 1 (DS) -> $6.99 -> $5.00
Heavy Armor Brigade (DS) -> $6.99 -> $5.00
Steal Princess (DS) -> $6.99 -> $5.00
ThinkSmart Kids 8+ (DS) -> $6.99 -> $5.00

Casper Scare School Sports Day (Wii) -> $6.99 -> $5.00

Plus if you want cash, Test Kitchen trades in for $8.40 cash at SecondSpin.com after 20% promo.

Obviously printing stuff off waste money, but if you are looking for UPC's for a product or whatever to help make things go quicker, http://www.freecovers.net/ is one I've used in the past to look up cover art. Never had a problem with anything scanning from their either.

Question:

I just tried to trade in two games to get the extra 25% in TIV (expires 10/29) but the lady couldn't find the promotion in the system. Only the promotion that involved pre-ordering Rage or NBA 2K12 were showing up.

Does the extra 25% automatically show up once everything is entered or do they have to manually put it in? I am going to try another BB in my area today; hopefully, it was just a human error.

All the promos show up the same page.

yeah i couldnt get those with 10 off, but i got them for 25 each, and platted gow o's, and flipped back for 33ish. ill just keep icolossus for 21ish(54-33)

FYI, if TIV is greater than $15, you should do the 30% for rage or NBA2K12 promo. Assuming you going to get rage or NBA2K12 anyway

I look up the game on ebay, find the UPC and plug it in here:http://www.upcdatabase.com/itemform.asp
save the picture (the UPC code) and open it in paint.
then I print out just the UPC straight onto the gamestop disc envelope in post card printing format.
I just post my flips AFTER I get what I want. No reason for me to do all the work if I don't get first dibs. After that I am more than happy to share them.
That's exactly what I did. I found all those values yesterday and posted them once I'd run around and gotten my haul; I've gotten so much from this site I never would've gotten otherwise that I definitely want to help however I can.
Test kitchen is where it's at!
Thanks for that one! My local GS stores both have it in stock. :applause:

Also, here's a list of potential PS3 flips; there's only a few good ones, the rest are only nice if you want to break even and just convert credit.

All PS3, GS price > BB TIV as before:
Pure Futbol $6.99 > $5
Mercenaries 2 $7.99 > $5
Bioshock 2 (like WV Matsui said) $8.99 > $6
SBK Superbike World Championship $9.99 > $7

All the following are $9.99 and trade in for $5:
Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
Ferrari Challenge
Iron Man
Army of Two
Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Athena
BAJA Edge of Control
Fallout 3
Eat Lead
Wall-E
Rise of the Argonauts
Legendary
Battlefield Bad Company
Prince of Persia

Enjoy!
are TIV's listed on bestbuy.com always guranteed to be the same in store?
as mentioned in the original thread, no. usually they are the same, though. but there is no guarantee.

stopped by my local BB with 3 $2 games and 1 $4 game and no go on the 4 for $20 as expected. He said it is $4 + as in the memo posted. Also, there is currently a 40% promo with preorder any game + 10% for unlocked but this will not stack with 4 for $20, as we know.

depending on the base values, I'd figure your better off with the 4 for $20!

Checked my local Gamestop and they had this. Thanks for pointing this out! I was already going to trade in 3 of my games from my collection so i might as well add this to it. :D

Thanks for the flips. Spent $16.21 at Gamestop for Army Rescue, and two copies of America's Test Kitchen with my 3d dot game heroes and got $43 in credit at Best Buy turned to Amazon credit.
not sure if this was mentioned yet, but I just noticed the promotions page on the BestBuy trade in page now includes 40% when you trade towards any pre-order. No sign of the 50% for batman or battlefield pre-order yet though.

Updated OP. This is the general bonus they've had going with pre-orders for a while now and word is they intend to keep having this one till the end of the year (but there was a gap between when it ended last and the start of the new one). I'm happy to know I'll be able to get a 50% bonus (with 10% GCU) for sure this week if we still haven't got confirmation of a 60% (50% with 10% GCU) for next week.

Just wanted to thank JAR for the DS flips he posted; those definitely helped me out today. Got quite a few of the ones he listed. :D

I'm also excited about the 40% pre-order bonus, I was scared I'd end up waiting too long for a 50% and end up losing out on TIVs. This works fine for me!

Text Silver to 332211

After opening my game and looking at the codes I received, it looks like the anarchy dlc is missing. The insert slip has one side with the wasteland sewer mission (and a code), and the other side has the Anarchy pack info, but the section that seems like the code should be is empty. It's possible the wasteland code could include all the DLC, but that doesn't look likely.

And I found a post on the Rage forums saying you need to call CS for missing codes, WTF.

i bet when you "Search" for it, marvel vs capcom: fate of two worlds comes up though?

If you look a little closer, there are alphabet tabs, in this case (M, T) if you click on T, it will come up for you then. Don't know why they can't be simple and auto display all results when you do searches. Had to show the bb blueshirt this the other day as well bc he couldn't find a few disc only ps2 games one time.

Looks like new copies of :ds: Transformers Dark of the Moon Autobots and Decepticons are a big flip from GS>BB now. $9.99>$14 before bonus

Check again; it's showing up for $9.99 online now; you're right, though, it was showing up for $19.99 when the ad first went live.

I'd go, but I imagine if the system isn't updated I'm going to have a hard time convincing GS to fix the error for three copies of the game.

I wouldn't expect it to last beyond tomorrow, if that. The last time there was a good flip that was clearly advertised in the GS weekly ad, BB dropped the TIV by the end of the first day. Plus, these games are sure to have a permanent price drop coming soon with BB running this same sale last week.

My GS already updated the system. They are holding the 2 they have for me lol.

BB canceled the promotion early, an employee showed me the notice. It said due to a glitch that was letting people trade in games that didn't quailfy and still get the promotion. (Said something about $2 and under games were supposed to be excluded). I tried two different stores where the promo was working fine previously.

like how early? traded in with the promotion around 5pm ET without any problems. hard to believe they'll completely cancel something printed in their weekly flyer, but I guess one never know....

It said due to a glitch that was letting people trade in games that didn't quailfy and still get the promotion. (Said something about $2 and under games were supposed to be excluded). I tried two different stores where the promo was working fine previously.

So no one here knows how to call a store..?
Some of us are at work. Would call the moment I am on break. Use them noggin.

wow, that's bad.

"Instead of fixing our mistake, we're just going to cancel the whole thing."

Hmm, just got back from doing the 4/$20 at a few different stores. Only had trouble at the last one. Their scanner was not working so they had to manually enter the UPC. My friend traded first and the promo showed up for him. When it came time to do mine, however, the 4/$20 was not showing up (this was around 6:00 when I tried mine). Only difference between my games and his were that he only had DS games to trade while I had a mix of DS and 360 games. Thankfully the 40% bump worked and it was only a difference of around $2 less (but now I have a pre-order tied to a store I don't go to frequently :cry:).

Oh another note, I hope to not see the inside of another Gamestop/Best Buy for the next few days.
Left with friend this morning around 10 AM, just got back around 7 PM. Ended up hitting 13 Gamestops and 5 Best Buys. We are so going to get banned when/if they finally have a way for the computer to enforce a 3 per year total lol.

did all your games have barcode/case to scan? I remember someone mentioned the 4/$20 promotion won't show up if they have to manually pull up the game in the system.
