BEST BUY'S VIDEO GAMES TRADE-IN PAGE

In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracks on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but major updates seem to come on Sunday and Tuesday nights (or at least have in the past). Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually.

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, but word is that will change soon.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll likely need a state ID.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return.
$9.99 new at GS this week. 17.99 for used. I have a nice collection of Transformers cars going too bad its only 2 models.

Oh shit. I didn't want to go to GS because I also saw the $19.99 price, but now I will. Hopefully the TIV at BB doesn't sink and the 50% kicks in Monday
I wouldn't wait until Monday. With the way BB has been quick to close the profitable flips, I suspect the Transformers flips will end soon. Do it today.

I just called my BB about the 4 over $5 for a +$20 bonus and they said it was working yesterday, so they told me to come on in and see what they could do. I'll head over there in about a hour, but was wondering if anyone else had any luck getting this deal post Wednesday. I'm preparing myself to go there and be disappointed, but it sounds like there is at least a chance.

There is no chance that that is happening.
Trade-in history can not be seen (yet) but it shows at the start of the trade-in application that only 3 per year per system per person can be traded in. I have yet to see anyone test this rule but supposedly a prompt should pop up after we enter the person's information. No confirmation if splitting in between different stores makes a difference since technically its all saved under the same system or if the prompt even pops up if you trade more than 3. For all we know its updated daily/weekly so you could dump everything at multiple stores in the same day and the system would be too slow to catch it.
I just want to make sure I understand what you said cause two parts seems to contradict. Is this prompt popping up at the beginning of the trade-in, like when you go to start it simply pops up basically saying "hey, guy in a blue shirt, don't take more than 3 of a game!" Or... is it popping up once you've entered the customer information and it's really saying, "This person has already traded in 3 copies of this game." I'm wondering cause obviously this is a new development and I'm curious if the system is actually enforcing a 3 copy limit now or if the system is simply reminding the employee of the policy.

The system doesn't know who you are until later, so it's just the general "3 limit" thing.

Well he said "at the start" and he also said a prompt "after they enter person's information" so that's what I'm confused about. If it is at the start then yes, it isn't tracking. If it is after, than it might be (or it could just be reminding the blue shirt).

Not going to lie, I'm curious because I'm about to attempt trading in a 4th copy of a game for the first time today. I just want to get rid of this $25 gamestop giftcard from e-rewards and the T:a and b were too good to pass up one of each (with a little test kitchen on top).
It is stupid that the cars do neither of these things: (1) transform or (2) have a slot to keep the DS game in.
But but but, they have a robot that does absolutely nothing designed into the bottom... lol.

Happy hunting at your local GS. If this hit SD by now, its going to be gone fast. Even better if you can get BB to PM the GS sale, you can just buy and trade in one shot, yup.

Whoa, I'm glad I read up on all of the discussions about Dark of the Moon; I was able to put a copy of each version on hold at one of my local Gamestops (in the same shopping center as a BB :D) and hopefully I'll be able to trade in those along with my 2 copies of Trackmania and single copy of Test Kitchen to net about $74 after preordering FFXIII-2.

Since I haven't reserved a game at BB in a while, I have a question: Do you have to put down the minimum $5 deposit out of your pocket, or can you ask for some of the trade-in credit to be applied towards the preorder?

You can put the $5 down anyway you like. Even RZ certs work. Most BB reps just use your new TI GC to put down the $5.

I had a very good experience trading in some games at Best Buy yesterday. I had a pile of games, some pretty old and the values were probably double what Gamestop would have given for them, I was very surprised when she gave me the total.

The only thing that came up was when I found out about the total, I realized that the amount was enough that the Gamer Zone Unlocked additional 10% would cover the entire cost of the membership (and get me some free magazines and good coupons too). Unfortunately they had to back out the original trade and redo it (and had to call over the manager to figure out how to do it), but both were extremely nice about it even though I was making a lot of extra work for them and it is a high volume store attached to a mall. As a tip, if you are going to trade a lot of stuff, try and get the Unlocked membership before they do the trades because their system forces them to back them out one at a time once they have printed the sheets.

When I got my unlocked membership, the guy said the entire computer trade-in worked on an "honor system." They can give you whatever bonuses they want and then sign you up for the program/pre-orders afterwards. I had exactly $200 base, he clicked the unlocked bonus and the preorder bonus then I paid $21.04 (membership+pre) after I got my $320 gift card (during Rage/2K11 50% pre-order promo). I was even able to pay for the promos with the gift card...

So, in short they didn't know what they were doing.

;) yep my jaw dropped when I saw those two posts

ima hold both versions aswell. tell me if you had to pay $10 or $20 for each version?

edit- I see the decepitcon version is $10 while the autobots is $20. Is there a big difference between the two versions?

EDIT: I also saw a mom with 2 little boys at the mall and wanted to give them my bag of Dark of the Moon hotwheels, but figured that would be creepy too. Why's everything have to be so creepy :(
Hah - this is why I'm glad I have little kids. Not only can I give my son these types of things (I think he has 4 or 5 now), but it is way less embarassing when trading in things like Chuck E Cheese Sports Games. Well, OK, that is still embarassing, but at least I have an excuse ;).

They're both $10 in-store

I almost feel ashamed of going to BB so much now. I literally went to BB almost every day last week (mainly because it's on my way to work and school).

In just the past 1-2 weeks I've bought from BB:

- Mass Effect 2
- God of War Origins
- Uncharted Dual Pack
- Ico/Shadow of the Colossus Collection
- 2x Brink
- 2x Hunted
- Spiderman Shattered Dimensions
- 2x The Fight: Lights Out
- All 4 seasons of Mad Men

All that stuff was either because of @gamer magazine, price match, or a sale.

So far I've done two large trade-ins (PS2 deal) and the gaming department manager knows who I am when I come in. I may take advantage of this GS flip, but I always feel somewhat bad for pre-ordering a game just to get the extra % and not actually getting the game.
lol io, same thing with kids ;) it's an excuse why i have chaotic shadow warriors and other kids games, lol.
You ever deal with a manager named danielle at your store?
thank you for the quick response. I know what im buying later on :D
I recommend you do the trade in today because the T:A/D are an advertised sale from gamestop and easier for BBY to catch onto even though it's been flippable for a few days.

I brought in one of each game without the box and they accepted both. I also took the manuals with me but the guy said they weren't necessary if I didn't have the case.

Traded in 5 PS3 games from my collection, because I know I'll be able to get it cheaper soon. Oh but it still hurts to see them go.

Btw, is $30 the highest TIV before bonus @ bestbuy?
They offer $30 for Dark Souls, so yeah, I'm guessing that's as high as it goes.
haha that's what I was what I used for highest TIV too. For some reason I remember black ops was $35, but I think that's over at amazon.

Don't remember a BBY game over $30 but I could be wrong.

Infamous 2 and Red Faction Armageddon were going for $35 trade-in during their release week.

OK. Apparently that Mike-BBY forum mod tried like hell to fix my Gamer's Club Unlocked issue and it's STILL showing me as only being on the free GC.

So I guess I still have to lug my envelope full of paperwork with me into BB whenever I wanna use my 10% bonus credit on any trades.:bomb:

So I guess I still have to lug my envelope full of paperwork with me into BB whenever I wanna use my 10% bonus credit on any trades.:bomb:
Same thing happened to me, what they had to do is re sign me up for the unlocked in store and they took the price down to a penny.

I lined up some games from my collection to trade in if the 60% bonus kick in next week. I'll just pick it back up later this year. We all know they won't get played until then anyways.

Same thing for me but gamer's club didnt even show up on my rz account. I had to sign up online for it to show(as free). I still get the bonuses without bringing in the paperwork from previous tradeins. Then again I have the same guy who "unlocked" it for me (except for wednesday when they messed up the tradein) so I guess that's why....
well, wll aren't you special! J/K... hope it gets sorted out...

when they "fixed" my unlock, my account is now in euros vs dollars, my name is changed when I log in and 2 Reward Certificates have disappeared... BUT I am UNLOCKED! lol

and stop all the reDUMBdent posts about the same trade/flip/whatever
not too "bright" in here the last three days....
:lol:Does BB even have stores in EU? If so, maybe you're unlocked over there.;)

And yeah, the redundant posts are only going to lead to them lowering the tiv's sooner, especially since I believe Enuf pointed to CAG in one of their posts.
Hmm... Good to know. And how did red faction go for that much?!?
Don't know but back that you gotta remember that they didn't have the 40-50% promos going on. They only had the trade 2 for $50/trade 3 for $60 so I doubt we will see those values while the 40-50% is going on.

he has linked CAG more than once, what gives with that ?
another bright bulb.
He should of just posted the link on CAG to the BBuy forum and encouraged members here to post their respective issues. (aka let Amazon know of a better price to get them to pm)
He did it backwards IMO.

so the 40% extra will stack with 10% which is the game club bounus? will it be like(pretend $10 is the reg trade in price is it 10 dollar plus 40 % then 14 dollar plus 10% which is 15.4 dollars
OR 10 dollar plus 10% which is 1 dollar and plus 40% of 10 which is 4 so it will be 16. but last week i went to my local best buy they said they wont stack

It does stack and you get 15 dollars because it is treated like 50% -- no idea wher eyou are getting 15.4 or 16 from (well i know, but uh....)

Thanks for the tip on the Transformer guys. I was checking the forum while I was waiting to pick someone up. There was a GS nearby, so it all worked out. Plus now, I have toys to give to my little cousins. I traded the games today in case the value drops.

BTW I tried a different BB today to do my trades. I pulled out the games only because the Transformer box had the GS sticker on it. I go in with my other games, and the guy somehow looses one of the ds games. He looks for it, and then told me he has to go look at the camera in case of theft. I didn't know if he was implying that I took one of the games, but I'm glad he said that he has a camera pointed at his station at all times. I didn't want to be in trouble for something I didn't do.

My lesson from that experience: watch bb employee when giving them ds/3ds games. And to try and stick with a BB I normally go to :)

People don't read, people don't listen. What do you expect? How many times was it mentioned after you posted? Maybe 4 or 5 times. I posted the same type of message as you last night and the title was mentioned way too many times thereafter. So...

PLEASE DON'T REITERATE ALREADY MENTIONED TITLES!

If people can't be bothered to read the OP to figure out how to get amazon cards, they certainly can't be expected to skim through a few pages looking for good flips. The good flips should be posted alphabetically (and with cost/trade value) on at least each page, possibly 2x per page, to make sure nobody has to do any work and that everyone can trade in all the best games.

it should be posted by values (high to low), so that they just go down the list.

Maybe we can get cheapyd to pay to get like a 1800 hotline and then people can just call that and say what games are in the store that they are in and then volunteers can tell the caller whether it is a good flip somewhere.

We'd obviously all need to make the hotline number part of our sigs, so that people don't have to look for it, too, but I think that might be the best move.

DerClaw...
That's a terrible idea.
I plan to go tomorrow since I heard a while back that BB tends to adjust (read: lower ) TIVs on Sunday if at all. If it turns out that the TIVs for the Transformers games drop tomorrow, then I just won't pick them up from GS.

...Though I'd probably call the GS to say that I changed my mind and that they don't have to hold the games for me anymore, just to be nice.
I'm sorry but someone is planting false info on here. Bestbuy have adjusted tiv's during the week (not Sunday) many times. The latest game that comes to mind was last week when Driver was on sale, Monday. The tiv tanked on Wednesday I believe.

my BB has let me use the same pre-order (mw3) every time for trades to get the bonus. It seems like not everyone is getting that deal or is it just me?

I've heard of others doing so, but I haven't been so lucky.
