There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracks on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but major updates seem to come on Sunday and Tuesday nights (or at least have in the past). Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually.

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, but word is that will change soon.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll likely need a state ID.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return.
It is stated as part of the trade in process so I would say take it at that.... 2 weeks to get the trade in.

Amazon has a ship by date which will void the trade is not met.
Amazon will take your order if you ship it after the ship date though- you just have to make sure you printed the label and stuff before that date or you can't access it anymore. They aren't really picky as long as it's not more than a week after the ship date.

I was all set to go over there Friday for the +$20. The 40% does me no good since most of my gamers were $5 trade-in. Very disappointing....

I may still try to call over.
I already have 5 preorders, can I bring in an old slip and get the 40% bonus, or does it have to be for a new new preorder?
Question for musicjunkie (or anyone else who works at Best Buy): when picking up a pre-order is it possible to apply more than one pre-order towards the game you are picking up. In other words, I have 3 Arkham City pre-orders; can I use all 3 to pick up the game on release day for $15 less (instead of just the $5)? Has anyone ever tried it before? Just trying to figure a way to cut down on the number of pre-order returns I'd have to make (or just loose out on by not making the return and chalking it up to the cost of profiting off the promotions).

Cool. Amazon rocks that way and in many others.

Shorty answer I would say yes since they just take the $5 and apply it toward the game, you would likely have to "return" two of them and get the $10 on a GC and then use that on the game.

Mishawaka IN store is pretty good store for trade ins, they always let me trade in with my preorder slips, and traded 3 copys of T:autobots and 2 copys of T: decepticons today for 105$.

Pawn lays in IN are 5 copys of any media

Well they are still going to have to do returns on 2 of those 3 pre-orders. If you used a GC on all of those they will just refund two $5 GCs, each on a different transaction, then do an exchange on the 3rd one on a 3rd transaction (assuming you're picking up the game). You can then put that $10 in GCs toward anything.

No way to do more than one return and/or exchange on the same transaction that I have seen.

why not just return 2 slips and get your $10 back then apply to the 3rd slip? I'm sure they'll let you do it.

That's pretty much what I described :p. Three transactions: Return #1, return #2, exchange.

Ok. That's what I was trying to get at (returning multiple on one transac tion), just was not very good at explaining it lol.

And to the other people, yes I know I could just return them on multiple transactions, I just thought that maybe it looks better if they were all applied to getting the game (since some are worried about the too many returns thing).

Looks like I'm going to have to return the extra copy of God of War Origins I was going to flip when they started their next 50% trade in bonus.

Hey don't get mad cause you can't argue a point. Also, don't hide behind the mods crap. It's not as if the mods love me nor do I ever report things to mods. Whatever you did to get banned is on YOU.

Also, it's really cool to talk shit about someone all the while saying "oh I have him on ignore." Like a kid talking shit and then putting his fingers in his ears going "nah nah nah I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!"

I went to a different BB than where I usually go to trade in 3+2 copies of Transformers A/D and the dude there rang them up as generic $1 SKUs cause he typed in the ENTIRE name of the game and the system showed nothing...

Thankfully I caught it before totaling everything. I told him to just type in Dark of the Moon and he looked at me like I was trying to scam them. Rofl.

Pre-ordered FFXIII-2 also, unghhh. Need me some DLC for that!

Just traded in one more Transformers. I pre ordered MW3 they gave me this cool pre order card thing, I've never gotten that before. Is that the norm and I've just been missing out?
Still holding strong on Amazon's trade program for $24.30 a copy.;):booty:
I wish I had picked up a couple copies of Pilotwings Resort when it was $19.99 at Best Buy as that is now trading for $23 at Amazon!
Still holding strong on Amazon's trade program for $24.30 a copy.;):booty:
I traded one copy in two days ago w/ 30+10% bonus for $29.XX... I was waiting for the 40% offer to come back and boom... TIV plummets. Am glad I got rid of at least one copy before then.

It being $24.30 now, I might as well just play through it before dumping the second copy off then keep one sealed for my collection.

I dumped my 3x ($13.99) Pilotwings for $22.50 each after bonuses; pretty much on par with Amazon. Really surprised with how much the Amazon TIV went back up though. AWD had so many in stock! Why do they want to restock their inventory by paying $23 for copies only to sell them @13.99 each...
I wish I had picked up a couple copies of Pilotwings Resort when it was $19.99 at Best Buy as that is now trading for $23 at Amazon!
You're doing it wrong! You were supposed to buy the AWD ones for $14 and then trade it back to Amazon for $23 ;) Just playing with ya.

Pilotwings Resort 3DS (used like new, $20.96 from 3rd party but prime eligible) 7 copies left.

I tried hinting that to you in a previous thread. Could have done better trading in at BB with their promos. You may potentially still be able to with possible 50% promo, the TIV holds, and you can find it on the cheap. But I also seem to notice you don't like to do the 50% promo pre-ordering.

I think we should mention potential flips ONE TIME ONLY. Since people seem to have a hard time reading, if they miss it or can't figure it out, it's their fault. Mentioning titles like T: DotM too many times (and now I am guilty of it too :p) is going to kill it.

@ IATCG thanks for bringing it to our attention in the first place!

Hey if anyone could help out im new to GS flips do most just order and hope the snail mail comes in time before the value tanks or do most just look for pre-owned and do find at store?

I'm really hoping that we still get the 50% next week for pre-ordering Batman. Otherwise, I'm just risking value drops.

I think most will try to go to B&M store first. In the event that the TIV tanks, I will only order online if I will at least break even.

Better to bank your profit before TIV drops. What is an extra 10% worth if you kick yourself for base dropping more than 10%.

Sorry, I didn't tell the full story. I traded the ones I had to Best Buy already (at least one using the 50% preorder promo). I just wish I had picked up a few more for Amazon this week but who would have known they would bump the TiV from $16-something to $23 in just a few days!?

True, the batman games are very good and with Robin and the past history this one should be very good tas well. :)

This may be a dumb question/s or asked before but I can't find it so here I go...

Can or is it possible to trade in three of the same title at two different stores?
(Best Buy employees can't see my history)

Also along the same lines can my wife go to the same store (the first store where I traded 3) and use her own name, but the catch is or what I am worried about is her address is the same on her ID as mine. I know once she traded for me before as when she gave her ID the employee pulled up my account. Can she create her own account? In other words can people in the same household have separate trade accounts and be within Best Buy policy?

I appreciate any help you can give me.

I know once she traded for me before as when she gave her ID the employee pulled up my account. Can she create her own account? In other words can people in the same household have separate trade accounts and be within Best Buy policy?

I appreciate any help you can give me.

I read that too. Thanks for the reply. I will just have to try it out but I am going to do it at another store since I already traded the 3 at the first store. I have 6 copies.
This may be a dumb question/s or asked before but I can't find it so here I go...

Can or is it possible to trade in three of the same title at two different stores?

Trade-in history can not be seen (yet) but it shows at the start of the trade-in application that only 3 per year per system per person can be traded in. I have yet to see anyone test this rule but supposedly a prompt should pop up after we enter the person's information. No confirmation if splitting in between different stores makes a difference since technically its all saved under the same system.

Also if you are a CAG DO NOT ask the employee doing your trade-in questions like 'how often do you work?', 'how many people are normally working your dept?', 'how many people work in your dept total?' and 'what days are you working this week?'
Someone came in the store I work at and asked a bunch of questions like this and looking at his trade-ins he was clearly a CAG. Now everyone in the dept knows what he looks like so in case he tries to pull something everyone is already aware.

Just seems silly to basically flag yourself like that.

For all we know its updated daily/weekly so you could dump everything at multiple stores in the same day and the system would be too slow to catch it.

What would he "pull"? You guys can take as many trade ins of the same game as you want. So if you don't want to take a game he's trading in, just tell him "no"

Try to trade-in a game he already traded 3 of but since it's a different employee he could claim he never traded them in? I dunno but why else would he ask questions like that?

That's getting too friendly in my opinion.

Hope that 50% TIV bonus for Batman shows up this weekend because I'm sitting in a mountain of games that should have went into the 4/$20 deal.

lol where are you from? I asked similar question before through casual convos. Like, "yea I know pretty much everyone here, blah blah blah, I don't think there's anyone else right?" or "I'll come back and trade more games in, hopefully there won't be any problems, you'll be working at this time right?" Not sure what the harm in those would be.
