In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracks on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but major updates seem to come on Sunday and Tuesday nights (or at least have in the past). Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually.

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, but word is that will change soon.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll likely need a state ID.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return.

It'll take a bit but it should get fixed if you post there. Just make sure to put the thread under the Gamer's Club section and title it something like Gamer's Club Unlocked issue or something that'll get the attention of the BB employees on there who can help.

Good luck.

do u think i should be fine i posted on the thread you made earlier

That should work just fine. I've noticed quite a few people using the thread I created to state they're having the same issue. Like I said though, it may take a while. Just make sure you signed up for the forums with the same email address as your Reward Zone/Gamer's Club account and you should get emails saying someone replied to the thread.

do they need to scan a brochure because the guy scan the coupon but not a brochure

Does anyone know what happens if a game is in the system but doesn't match the upc? For example, Best Buy often sells "exclusive" versions of certain games. I just went to the estimator and the UPC for Arkham City on the PS3 is coming up as 799007754565, but the copy in hand (from KMart) is listed as 883929161881. Are they going to stick me with the generic $1 value for this?

You can always search by the UPC number on BB.com's trade in estimator if you are really worried. I know i traded in a copy of Call of Juarez The Cartel that was "exclusive to Walmart" without issue.
I dont understand people who trade in games like bf3 right away. Did you buy it for the campaign?
(and why?)
Maybe they only bought it as part of the 5/100 promo. Figure they could sell the 'goodie' codes and trade back in and either profit or break even and get a game checked off.

Not a terrible idea if you were interested in say four games off the list, but didnt have a 5th keeper.

Oh, and if you listen to the giantbombcast, Vinny on there has said multiple times that he only wants to play the campaigns of major FPSes (mostly talking about CoD). I'd guess that, while in the minority, he couldnt be the only one to feel like that. I personally never played the multi of CoD:MW2 and I bought it at launch (conversely, I never played the single player of Killzone 3 *shrugs*).
I dont understand people who trade in games like bf3 right away. Did you buy it for the campaign?

Well i'm not gonna lie, I was very disappointed with the campaign. I don't think I want to trade it in this week, but I was hoping to sell it back before the value dropped (which I guess since it has yet to show up is impossible) my worry is having a backlog, which in a sense I suppose is irrational. With all the games coming out with the great promotions there's little fear of "wasting money" on if you get a bad apple. Not saying BF3 multi-player is bad at all, really quite fun.
I know I had batman beat in less than a week. I experienced it, and just moved it on to something else before I took a loss on it. I hope I don't get too much flak for my reasoning, as i'm pretty cheap.
Usually best buy is pretty on the ball with putting the Tiv up, but maybe with the mixed reactions, or initial bad taste from the single player they are hesitant to put the value up. or perhaps they just forgot
I dont understand people who trade in games like bf3 right away. Did you buy it for the campaign?
(and why?)
I bought it because I wanted to see how it was. All my friends are on COD and if this game is that much better I might be able to convince them to switch over since they thought blops wasn't that great.

Couple that with me using BBY flipped credit to purchase on amazon and receive more amazon credit (making it truly $40 since I used credit to get credit), sold the dog tags for $15. So I'm sitting here with a $25 game that i can test out for the next couple weeks to see if I should push it or not.

If I decide to just roll and go with COD, I doubt the TiV will be below $25 which makes it $40 after all promos. So getting paid $10 after taxes and fees to try a game out was worth it to me. Wasn't doing it as a flip just a rental that I could keep for $25 or could trade back in and make some money.

Still debating if I should open it though since I know I will want to play online and the online/LE code is selling for $25. Will be a waste if I choose to go back to COD.

I actually did buy it for the campaign, since I figured I could sell off the Karkand/online pass/dog tag codes in a bundle for $20, thus making my out of pocket cost for the game $40. Thus far I haven't listed it on CL, but I'm tempted to do that now for those who may have been stuck buying a vanilla version after the LE turned out to be...actually limited.:whistle2:#

For games that have just been released won't it make better sense to sell on ebay/craigslist than trading in? I mean ebay/craiglist should beat the BB TIV by atleast $10-15 for newly released games in "like-new" condition.

Note: I am assuming you don't get the pre-order bonus every time because frankly cancelling too many pre-orders will get you in trouble sooner or later.

Obviously, all small chances of happening, though BB isn't likely to steal you games at knifepoint.

yep. I don't deal with craigslist at all because people waste your time on there.

I like dumping my newer games on gamestaq though. You get like $37, which is pretty damn good for getting it in cash.

Depends on the game, but I usually steer away from CL for game selling. Too many idiots that have wasted my time by "only bringing" $5-$10 less then agreed upon price or getting 10 phone calls asking me to drive 30 minutes out of my way to sell them a game.

Let alone there have been 22 reported muggings from CL meetings in central Ohio in the last month. 8 of which have been in well lit, public places.

For BBY I can gut any codes and eBay them (which is at least $5 for any new release, heck I was getting $5-$10 for brink codes last month) usually getting me another $10+.

Once the TRade in bonuses drop I will probably start doing CL again, but as long as I can get $40+ (means $25 base with current promos) from BBY then I'll be choosing that route.

But to each their own.

I got the $20 promo credit with BF3 from Amazon and if I can sell off the DLC code/online pass/Dog Tag DLC from Amazon for about $20 total then trade it in for $40 total it'll be about a $20 profit to me.;)

Check the history (advanced search then click on completed) mine sold for $14.99 with an email from the buyer saying if I could get it to him in the next 5 hours he'd add some extra in it. Sold early hours on 10/26.

So I guess technically it only sold for $14.99. It might have dropped a ton due to BBY giving out the codes

Very true and there are exceptions of course but for me cash beats store credit. If the difference is like $5-$10 I usually prefer cash but yeah every one has their own preferences.
Just got an email from my BBY. It's an apology letter regarding the BF3 DLC. All I have to do is show up with all the receipts and they should take care of the rest.
I'm sorry what was the DLC that BB was offering for BF3? I preorderd from there and picked it up at midnight release and was completely oblivious that they were offering anything.

Was the DLC supposed to be sent out in e-mail?

Also, when do TIV drops typically take place?

I have a few I want to do but if I order the games tonight (Thursday) even with two day UPS shipping they most likely won't get here until Monday as UPS doesn't deliver on Saturdays.

I would actually say at least half, but probably closer to 85% of all new releases haven't been put on the estimator till the Tuesday after release.

also waiting for bf3 tiv. hope it shows up by tomorrow since I was planning on trading in my friend's copy (hopefully I get through campaign as well) and other games. also pick up my pre-ordered copy and trade that in as well (will be my 4th game for the promo)

I had an interesting price match experience with BF3 last night. They were willing to match the TRU $10 gift card offer, but only on a "regular" copy of the game. They weren't willing to do it if I picked up my preorder since, according to them, the exclusive content offered by Best Buy is worth more than $10 . It's all relative, I guess. It's worth nothing to me since I don't plan on playing the game.

Since I need to pick up the preorder for the 5/$100 deal I said I'd think about it. I guess I was hoping maybe I could come back and get a different CS clerk who would do it. But then I thought I should have just asked for them not to print me the code. I'd rather have $10 off up front than have to sell the code. What is the Best Buy exclusive stuff for anyway? I'm all confused over what is and isn't included in the "Limited Edition" vs. what BBY gives on the receipt...

If I can get $10 off, then just sell the game for about $50 shipped on eBay, I'm only losing about $10 - but getting $20 on the preorder deal (and of course getting closer to the 5 since after this and Uncharted 3 I'd still only have 4 with nothing left to buy - will probably try to do the same with MW3).

As for the trade-in program, I managed to do a decent set of trade-ins for Uncharted 3 50% bonus. While they might not be as good on the top-end prices and they are keeping up with the obvious flips, they are still good for the mid-to-low range stuff. I dug two old DS games out of my daughter's room that fetched me $8 and $6.40 each. She's in hgih school now and has completely stopped playing video game. These were games I got her when she was in 5th or 6th grade (My Fashion Studio and some Hamsterz game). I'm certainly glad I managed to get $14.40 towards UC3 for stuff that would never, ever, get played again ;).

I might dump BF3 since I really feel like EA wasn't ready for the amount of players they have. Servers seem like they are down every other time I go to play. Secondly, I have a solid connection and I get this laggy jerkiness online (oddly enough I kept being killed by a guys whose GT was "Die by Lag" WTF?) and it's really frustrating. I have plenty of other games to play or finish so it might be best to dump it off and maybe pick it up on sale near Xmas.

Not to get it back off-topic, but I too avoid Craigslist recently. I used offer my games for $35 or $40 and almost every time it was a pain. Some wanted me to bring them the game, like meeting at their house not a public place, some would just not show up and wait 6 hours to text me back and say "I forgot about bill x, I don't want it, etc", and the ones I hated the most would show up with just a $20 bill and want the game right then.

If you haven't already, you should check your email (one for bestBuy) regarding the BF3 DLC. Got the email yesterday saying they know about the BF3 DLC email error and are trying to fix it. All you have to do is show up with your receipts and they'll do a return/rebuy with the DLC printed on the receipt. I went today to trade in a few games, walked out with my SPECACT Kit DLC and a few hundred BB GC

If you have to do Return/Re-buy, make sure you do this before this week is over since it creates complications with the 5 pre-orders for $100 Reward Zone credit they're offering if you return/rebuy after the initial week of a games release.
BF3 tiv is out, 25 bucks. It seems bby trade in good time is over. Rage and gears of war are still 26.
Wow I am actually surprised!

Anyone know what the Banjo-Kazooie/Viva Pinata Double pack goes for in TIV? I dont see it listed on the BBY website. Was wondering if anyone traded one in knew.

Thanks!

Trade them in seperately, disc only.
F.E.A.R 3 - BBY TIV drop to $16
I think the drops are being affected by the online tradein locks. If they were monitoring this thread there would be more drops for even lower values. So it seems like to me that we' re screwing ourselves more than anything.

Yeah I asked about that and it they said it won't affect my 5/100 thing

And what the fuck!!!!! BF3 only $25? I already have 4x copies for both systems!!!!

And I knew NOT to depend on FEAR3's TIV holding up...guess I was right
And for those thinking about flipping Gamefly's deals, better make it quick. I sure by this weekend, BBY will drop it like it's hot

For beginners, you can try and flip Madworld which is $5 at Amazon. Trades in at $4 at BBY.
