There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracks on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but major updates seem to come on Sunday and Tuesday nights (or at least have in the past). Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually.

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, but word is that will change soon.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll likely need a state ID.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return.

it's prob YMMV. I've used the same pre-orders to get a lot of these bonuses too. They just pull up my account and see that I've already pre-ordered and bonus gets applied.
OK. Apparently that Mike-BBY forum mod tried like hell to fix my Gamer's Club Unlocked issue and it's STILL showing me as only being on the free GC.

So I guess I still have to lug my envelope full of paperwork with me into BB whenever I wanna use my 10% bonus credit on any trades.:bomb:
My unlocked status wasn't showing up when I went to do a trade in today but after they put my email address into the computer it showed I was unlocked. Usually I just hand my card to the employee and I get the bonus no problem but for some reason my unlocked wasn't showing up after I gave him my card and my phone number.

Maybe you can try giving them the email address tied to your GC unlocked :)
I'm sorry but someone is planting false info on here. Bestbuy have adjusted tiv's during the week (not Sunday) many times. The latest game that comes to mind was last week when Driver was on sale, Monday. The tiv tanked on Wednesday I believe.
Huh. Well, then I guess I'll just hope that the TIVs for both DotM games holds through tomorrow. :whistle2:#
DerClaw...
That's a terrible idea.
When I was trading my games last night, Chuck mentioned you traded in 1100 worth of stuff. Seems like they are in awe of some of your exploits. The one thing I noticed while there too, was that there are some really cute girls working there.

The 40% bonus just started, so what are the odds they really roll out a new deal before next week?

God... the people at mine act like it's the end of the world when I trade in like 300 bucks worth of stuff. I need to step up my game :)

My local Best Buy (Williston, VT) still had signs up for $20 extra when you trade 4 games as of 5pm Friday.

Brought 4 games worth $5+ each in on Wednesday afternoon (before reading on here that the promo had apparently been cancelled), and the promo wasn't showing up in their system. After 2 hours, 4 managers, 6 different registers and a stack of gift cards that wouldn't activate, the store manager told me he'd take $20 off Forza 4 when I pick it up on Tuesday.
he has linked CAG more than once, what gives with that ?
another bright bulb.
He should of just posted the link on CAG to the BBuy forum and encouraged members here to post their respective issues. (aka let Amazon know of a better price to get them to pm)
He did it backwards IMO.
There is no doubt Enuf has gone above and beyond to get things right with BB, but when I saw that he posted the link back to CAG I was shocked. I applaud his efforts, but what is the old saying? "Cutting off the nose to spite the face". Anyways. what's done is done.
Have we ever experience TIV drops in the middle of the day?
We've seen drops at approx 10-11 AM EST. We've also seen an unusual drop at around 11 PM EST which was still within business hours for the west coast.

Should I trade in MvC3 now? With the 40 plus 10% bonus its $25.50, which is over half the cost of ultimate. Should I trade now or wait? I need guidence!

The majority of drops have come on Saturday's and Tuesdays (around midnight in the case of Tuesdays), with Tuesday evenings being the most typical. That said, price drops have come completely at random in the past and the safe bet is to assume that any hot TIV, i.e. hot flip, may not stay around very long. *midnight being central time as Best Buy is located in MN.

As for Enuf, yes he linked CAG, oh well. You really think CAG is some sort of secret? This site gets more hits in a day than my site has had in 8 months. Next to SD, CAG is probably the biggest site dedicated solely to good deals (and definitely the biggest dedicated to good gaming deals). Amazon, Kmart, Family Video and I'm sure more have official reps on these forums. Not to mention, BB reps have been quoted as saying before that they would like to get someone on CAG in the same manner as Kmart does, they just haven't managed to go through all the corporate loop-holes that is required to get something like that done.

Let's face it, soon it will be like the amazon trade in. It started off great with all sorts of promotion, but dried up after a while.

I'm guessing you're waiting for the 60%? which will give you a whopping $1.70 more. If it does drop, it'll drop $2 or more from its current $17. There is no sale for the game, so i don't think there will be a surge of the game coming in, but it's random these days so I'd say trade it NOW!!

I never traded to Amazon while they were still doing promos but their values have been decent. However, a trade in I did a while ago(albeit with two glitched TIV's) where they rejected my trades as 'broken' when others got accepted for the same games seemed a bit shady.

But Amazon came through in the end and credited me what NorAm denied as promotional credits.

I'm guessing this change probably stems from the huge tiv glitch a while ago with fat PS2's that some CAG's(even mods) sent in for $200 each.

Out of over 4 dozen trade-ins to Amazon/NorAm I've never been rejected on video games, but was rejected on 2 Mariah Carey DVD sets (same title) for "Incorrect UPC". Don't know why as these were the only UPCs in existence for that title. They were $2 outlet fillers for BB.com orders and Amazon was paying $3.50 each. After I received them back (I always pick return item vs. lower value) I watched one and actually enjoyed it. Gave the other to the kids.

The only time I ever sweated a trade-in with Amazon was with a 360 FFXIII bundle I picked up on Target clearance for $175. I took the easy $230 from Amazon instead of trying eBay or CL first. I read all the HW TI horror stories, but figured how could they reject it since everything except the outer box was still sealed. After the first one paid out I went back to get a second one at Target, but when I got home I found out it was gutted. HDD removed, insides swapped (adapter didn't fit), extra controller missing. Whoever did it was a pro and got that sticker off and back on real good. I took it back to Target and explained the situation and they gave me a refund. Was kind of surprised it was so easy.

Damn I just checked the trade in estimator and black ops went down from $23 to $18. Glad I traded it in today and transformers autobots.
Of course killzone 3 also dropped to $9. fml lol.
holy crap, good thing I dumped that truckload of copies at $20 a pop when I did.

Debated ordering some of those gamefly games. Looks like most would have still been good flips, but I figured that they might drop more than that.

I just done trading 40 min. ago at BB 4 ea. TDOM and got the full price $78 and change. Traded 2 ea. TDOM and 2 other games 1 1/2 hrs before that and 3 ea. TDOM yesterday. Total was over $200. Thank You CAG!

I just got home and saw your post and checked BB estimator and snap I just barely caught that last trade before it went down.

Sorry for those who didn't get it and congrats to those that did.

is it just me or the trade in site crashed?

nevermind just checked catherine, infamous 2, hot pursuit, shift 2, black ops, MK 9, la noire, no more heroes, and a bunch more all dropped $2-4. =/

Why is Best Buy dropping trade in values for everything. Values are nearly equivalent to Gamestop now. What a load of crap. Picked up 2 TF this evening and didn't get a chance to drop by BBY. My Gamefly shipment is now useless too when it finally arrive.

WTH.

no wonder TIV tanks like crazy with such over-abuse

Yep. Autobots $8, Decepticons $6. Little profit on Autobots still w/ bonus.
I debated doing one last T:A flip on the way home, but wanted to watch the game. Bummer. I'm getting low on BB credits, too.
I snuck into GS at 9:01 (after leaving BB of course) and got 2 more Autobots and was going to go to the 9:30 BB at the mall, but decided to go home. Will be sending them in now.

I know the pros probably did it, but for the noobs: anything with a base TIV more than the purchase price, lock it in online for the maximum quantity no matter what.

I don't know who at BB/Dealtree slept on TDotM for so long. BB had it on sale for $10 themselves all of last week and now 3 days for $10 at GS this week busted the bubble.

See now kids, when you have flips mentioned in an open forum without knowing how many other users will do them and in what quantities, you end up with trade values dropping like crazy.

So remember, open mentioning of flips in a forum leads to this happening:

Then tiv's drop and NO ONE can do the flip to make money/credit.

You are right. I am usually against such crap. But after seeing all the hoarders and flippers here on CAG and getting temporarily banned for being a jerk to others about it I saw the light. This is the first time I have traded so many of one game and it will probably be the last.\

Sorry Bud.

Oh give it a rest. Many CAGS got the deal and it helps the site. It brings more users and more users means more purchases which means overhead gets covered which means the site stays up.

I don't think cheapyd made the site so everyone can "keep it secret" and just have stupid conversations. Hello mcfly??!!

Do you guys know if Batman Arkham City will have Robin for PC? I don't see it listed at Best Buy online as a pre-order bonus, but if I go to the kiosk in stores. It's says that the PC version comes with Robin if I pre-order.

Then tiv's drop and NO ONE can do the flip to make money/credit.

:wall:
I don't think the problem is it being in an open forum, helped a couple people get in on the flip. Didn't help that it was constantly reposted.

Unless there's a private section to post good flips I'm unaware of, the open forum is the only way to inform other cags who do deserve to know about the flip what is good to flip.

I have seen a few older women (think cougars) who are buying :ps3: system and games for their kid/nephew/etc and asking about cables and stuff. The employee of course directs the lady at the Monster Cable HDMI for ~$100. I have wanted to walk up and say "you know you could buy an identical copy 'not branded Monster' cable from Monoprice and save ~$95.
Talking about cable. While I was at Gamestop, this soccer mom came in looking for a HMDI cable for her PS3. Douchestop clerk sold her a - wait for it... "USED" hdmi cable for $20.

What a load of shit, these cables sells for less than $2 on amazon w/ FS.
