BEST BUY'S VIDEO GAMES TRADE-IN PAGE

Check most up-to-date TIV using BB's Video Games Value Estimator.

Check which BB stores do trade-ins here.
In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

:bomb: The values in the Lists do not match the values in the Estimator. What's up with that?
I don't know. It seems the Lists are usually updated on Sundays, and the TIVs are adjusted to reflect the List in a few days. But as trades are made, the TIVs may change and the Lists are not updated frequently. Again, check the Estimator for latest TIV.

The promo says "Trade 2..." or "Trade 3..." but I only want to trade 1 game, will I still get $x amount?
You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. The promo is titled "Trade 2" etc to make the giftcards sound more lucrative.

The 2 games I want to trade are worth more than $60 combined according to the Estimator. Does that mean I will only get $60 for the 2 games?
No. You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. For example, if your total according to the Estimator is $70, you will get a $70 giftcard.

:bomb: If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as you ship it before the "Ship by" date "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value" (as of 5/2), and your games are received in the condition you declared.

How long do I have after I lock in a trade online before I have to ship it?
30 days. Has been recently changed to "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value".

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
According to BB: "We will not accept more than 3 games of the same title and platform from a customer (or address) in a year. Please do not submit more than the limit as excess submissions WILL NOT BE RETURNED." Example, you can trade 3 copies of Portal 2 for PS3 and 3 copies of Portal 2 for x360 without problems. Some people have been banned from trade-ins at BB due to the violation of this policy. If you plan on trading more than 3 copies of a game per platform by doing it through various stores, you do so at your own risk and discretion.

:bomb: Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
BB used to be strict about complete copies, but this has changed, and ppl are trading games in store without manuals or cover sleeve for full TIV. If you trade online it's sometimes YMMV. I would advise you to send in complete games (case, disc, manual) since some ppl are reporting only getting 50% of the locked TIV.

I see people talking about getting Amazon giftcards by trading at Best Buy. How are they doing that?
Some Best Buys sell Kindle giftcards which can be used on Amazon.com like regular Amazon giftcards. You will not get the Kindle card with your trade, but you can buy them with your BB giftcard.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
According to BB's own FAQ:
Q: Is trade-in limited to items I bought at Best Buy?
A: No.

I don't know why this happens, but apparently some stores do not have their system setup to take non-BB purchased items at this time. Check the link above regarding stores that do video games trade-ins first.

So when getting the "unlocked" status on gamers club (in store only):
1: Grab a "unlocked" gamers club brochure in game section and see attendant there (You'll probably get the current magazine issue free also because you get another year subscription to @gamer free, as far as I can tell, on top of your current sub.)
2: They will scan the brochure for the "unlocked" gamers club (3081375 RZDC UNLOCK)
3: Then hand them your coupon (if you have one) and they will scan it (3106183 MEMBERSHIP COUPON)
4: Boom!!! It's free and you are out the door.
Please don't just have them scan the coupon and nothing else. That just blows it!!!
This should be added to OP!!!
How long do you have to cancel a preorder? I don't plan on going to BB before the GoW3 release
im guessing 30 days just like any other purchase?

please stop asking and answering this crap every few hours, just ignore and let the member take a few minutes to read rather than highlight this ...

well, here's to going back tomorrow or sometime this week and having them do it right.
It's great that it takes cags to tell bestbuy employees how to do this program right ;)
Read the preorder receipt. It states what you can do, especially about getting refunds and time limits.
i dont have one on hand care to elaborate?
Dude, thanks for the heads up!!

All they did was scan the coupon for me and nothing else...

3-4 days ago when I took the coupon in to the store, I told the cashier he probably needs to scan the GC Unlocked bar code (in the small brochure saying it was $14.99) but he kept insisting all you have to do is scan the coupon.

I tried to trade in games yesterday and I didn't get my 10% trade in bonus b/c the system said "not found" when the cashier entered my RZ number.

Good thing I forced him to let me keep my coupon in case it didn't work. Gonna go in there and get them to do it right this time.
I ended up letting them keep my coupon, but I took back the letter that was attached to it and put it back in the envelope with that pamphlet thing for the GCU thing. So apparently it's looking like I'm going to have to speak to a manager at my closest store sometime soon in order to actually get that thing posted to my account.:bomb:

If they're gonna try and compete with GS, then they better put this GCU thing right in their system and just have it as an option that they can select since this scanning barcodes bullshit is too confusing for most of the mouthbreathers they have working for them to understand apparently.
Read the preorder receipt. It states what you can do, especially about getting refunds and time limits.
I just have the standard "30 Day Return Policy" on the back of my receipt. Is there a separate "Pre-Order Policy" that I'm missing?

Common sense says that if I don't pick up my pre-order on release day, then I should have at least 30 days from my pre-order date to do a "return". But then again, business policies don't always adhere to common sense.

If someone could find or create an official Best Buy Pre-Order Policy/FAQ and post it in the OP, that would be very helpful. Thanks!

Does any of the current promos stack or do only get to pick one and which one would be the best if I were to trade in 15 games and wanted to get gears 3.

you know when i did pick up the one game i pre-ordered at best buy they didn't even have the information on file about my $5. I had to go back a separate trip to refund the $5.

Guess it didn't make me feel very good about having $40 tied up in their system when they couldn't even look it up without the receipt.

I signed up for the UNLOCKED thing. Two questions:
1. How long until it shows up on my RZ membership website? I did get the 10% bonus, but the website does not show it
2. Was I supposed to get a FREE issue of @Gamer magazine when I signed up?

Only 1 bonus at a time. They don't stack. So you either get 40% gears bonus (or any preorder gets you 40%) or the 30% for trading in 3 or more games.

The 10% bonus is for signing up for the gamers club unlocked ($14.99 for 1 year). It gets you a year sub to @gamer mag. Along with 10% bonus on trades (stacks with any promo) and 10% off on any used game purchase (stacks with promos).

Take a close look at what I circled sloppily in read. "Limit 5 of each title per customer" Which contradicts with the "Limit of 3 per customer, per year" thingy.

Pretty sure that means you can only purchase 5 copies of Gears of War 3.

I haven't rung out anyone with the coupon for Unlocked but anyone I've signed up for Unlocked and then scanned in an issue of the mag caused it to package out and the mag to be free.

LMFAO!

... So, I lived in Columbia, MO while attending school for the last four years. I moved back home, near KC, in May, but my girlfriend is still at school. I went to visit her this past weekend, and decided to take a gander at Best Buy. I laughed out loud at their used game selection.

Not exaggerating:

100+ copies of Two Worlds II.
~50 copies of Fable 3.
~50 copies of SWTFUII.
~20+ of Epic Mickey
~20+ of Kane & Lynch
~20+ of Epic Yarn

etc, etc, etc. Seriously, 90% of all their games were obvious the collection of a bunch of flippers. Every good flip from Gamestop and BBV was at this store.

that's fantastic. i wish they would send those flips back to my store so i could get them again. but in reality they probly cost alot more than we picked them up for.

and como ;) you went to mizzou? great fun there. lots of cute grrls and all nite bars :)
i spent a few years there once

Nah, man... you're not missing out on anything, I promise! Seriously, most every single used game they had was in the $35 range; it was ridiculous. I've seen Fable 3, new, sell for under $20 at a few places now... and we all know SWtFUII was basically a $7.50 flip. That was the best part. I mean, I know they've got to make a profit; but there's no way they're going to sell through even half that stock with those current prices.

If anything, I'm hoping that we'll see a discount on games in the next month or so, as well as another 50% off coupon in the @GAMER mag.

And, what's odd, is that in all my time in CoMo, I never ran into another flipper. I basically taught the BB employees how to accept games, and I never got dirty looks in GS. Considering the rumor that stores get an equivalent number of used games as they accept in trades, I gotta say I'm surprised this store got so many. Especially because the Independence, MO store, where I've flipped many more games, and have seen a few other flippers, doesn't have **** for a pre-owned section.

I know you make the rounds in St. Louis, and you know a few others that do, too. What does the pre-owned section at your Best Buy look like? Full or empty?

Anyhoo... yeah, man, I was a journalism student at Mizzou. Great college with awesome peers and professors (though I didn't much care for the administrators and whatnot). LOTS of good looking girls, for sure; and the night scene is pretty darn crazy... and lots of "spirit" on tailgate days, too. Alas, I've been with my GF for the last four years, and I'm a faithful fellow ;)

I don't even think the one was at had a used game section but then again, I didn't really wonder around too much, just traded in my games and left.

used section at my bestbuy in soco stl is just riddicks and random overpriced games. like medal of honor for 34.99 and it will be cheaper new right across the aisle. most of the used games are cheaper new, it's crazy.

yeah journalism students all over go to mizzou, it's a good school for that. i was too busy studying/partying to do any videogames or flipping down there. lots of cute girls. you got the naive party chix 1st time away from home and then you got a bunch of trailer tattooed townsies that just want to have fun. good times. i was in the art dorm mc something near the nuke reactors and we were on the far end of the campus next to all the bars/downtown area, so it was a 5 min walk from the bars closing to the co-ed dorms. good stuff. wish i were 25 again (lol). iv been w my grrl for a long time, but i can still reminisce ;)

Just looked over both the receipt and the preorder receipt-like slip.

This is for MW3
1. Present preorder ticket to cashier between 9/12/11 and 11/06/11
2. Pay the $5 deposit toward the purchase price of the item and obtain receipt for verification.
3. Retain your receipt for verifying your paid deposit. To obtain credit for the deposit, your receipt must be presented when picking up the item.
4. Return to store where deposit was made between 11/08/11 and 11/13/11 (Availability date is subject to change. Product will be held 5 days after arrival date.) Proceed to customer service. Present cashier with deposit receipt. Pay existing balance due on the item (plus applicable taxes).
*
*
note: blah blah blah if not redeemed by 11/13/11 , the receipt may be refunded at customer service. blah blah blah.

Basically if you do not pick up your game, you can get your $5 back by turning in your deposit slip (receipt) showing you paid $5 (no need to cancel it, just dont pick it up). Also the way Step 4 is worded is you pay just the difference for the game, instead of them doing a return then full repurchase. Also in the note section it states preorder is only redeemable/cancel at the store initially made.

Step 4 is kind of funny. BB DOES return the $5 deposit and it goes toward the price of the game and you ONLY pay the difference. It's done that way so if you return, pm etc you are doing so against the full price of the game and not just the balance after the $5 deposit.

Got 75 dollars yesterday after trading in some games and adding the 40% bonus for a pre-order.

Ended up pre-ordering Uncharted 3, and used a $20 gift card for a NBA 2k12 pre-order. I'll be paying about 40 dollars cash for 2 games at release.

Also pre-ordered Battlefield 3 last week. I"m set!

It's all saved in the system as well. That's why they take down all your info so if you lose/forget your receipt it can still be accessed.

Yeah. I paid my preorder with a CC and when I went in a few weeks ago to swap from MW3 to MW3 Hardened Edition, I did not have the receipt, so they were able to find it using my ID and CC. It should also have been under my RZ account number, but who actually knows what the heck BB does (my RZ account does not show any of my preorders).

So this ends on the 1st of Oct?
Well, I guess I'll be done with Gears 3 by then - I'll trade that in for Rage (gears will be worth around $44 with the 40% I'm guessin) and since I dont have LIVE anymore I'll prob get RAGE on ps3 for the free multiplayer.

Sidenote: the thumbprint thing at best buy SKETCHES me out!

yea, that may be a little high - But Gears will be worth $31, thats what the guy who worked there said, or "guessed" - plus another 40% - plus i'll snag a movers guide from the post office for another 10% off (not sure if those work anymore for games)

Stoked to snag Gears tonight! But I think I might be more excited for Rage!
Lastly - I wonder what freebies they will hand out tonight at the midnight...

Never count on a best buy employee for any info. ;)

Madden was $30 and the day the 50% bonus started, it dropped to $28. Still great but they always drop it a little bit.
Lastly - I wonder what freebies they will hand out tonight at the midnight...
There will definitely not be free Gears beanies.....oh wait. :D

Going to ask again just cause it got buried fairly quick. Anyone know off hand what Gunstringer is trading for? I haven't been able to find it on the site... (so if someone has traded it in recently or is able to find it on the site, I'd appreciate the assistance).
Off topic but does anyone know if best buy copies that come with exclusive dlc are generally the same upc's as the normal copies or are they unique upc codes?
Unique dlc is u usually packages with teh item
Any one have a problem trading in Trackmania for the Wii? They said they couldn't take mine because the UPC didn't match what was in their system.
It was a little complicated but I calmly pointed out to them that there is literally only one Trackmania game for the Wii (which I invited them to look up and confirm), and that it makes far more sense that someone screwed up when entering the name and UPC data into the system than me having some sort of magical unreleased Trackmania game for the Wii. They seemed to accept this line of thinking.
Unique dlc is u usually packages with teh item
Okay but if it's bundled with the dlc will the game have a unique upc code? or will it be the same upc as any other gears copy from other stores.
Any one have a problem trading in Trackmania for the Wii? They said they couldn't take mine because the UPC didn't match what was in their system.
Same thing happened to me on Saturday. UPCs did not match when they scanned it or looked it up. Guy called over a manager to see what to do, manager let it go through once she saw there was only one Trackmania for the Wii (plus I had also suggested that they could always just take it without the case if that made them feel better lol).
Any one have a problem trading in Trackmania for the Wii? They said they couldn't take mine because the UPC didn't match what was in their system.
I just asked him to type in the name (and then had to tell him it is all one word after), but he accepted it with no questions.

Awesome about the gears price. Means I can grab a gears from each of the major retailers and trade them in for even and keep the code (besides GS of course...) $43.5 TiV with the gears promo and unlocked. Looks like I might get most of the skins after all.
