BEST BUY'S VIDEO GAMES TRADE-IN PAGE

Check most up-to-date TIV using BB's Video Games Value Estimator.

Check which BB stores do trade-ins here.
In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

:bomb: The values in the Lists do not match the values in the Estimator. What's up with that?
I don't know. It seems the Lists are usually updated on Sundays, and the TIVs are adjusted to reflect the List in a few days. But as trades are made, the TIVs may change and the Lists are not updated frequently. Again, check the Estimator for latest TIV.

The promo says "Trade 2..." or "Trade 3..." but I only want to trade 1 game, will I still get $x amount?
You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. The promo is titled "Trade 2" etc to make the giftcards sound more lucrative.

The 2 games I want to trade are worth more than $60 combined according to the Estimator. Does that mean I will only get $60 for the 2 games?
No. You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. For example, if your total according to the Estimator is $70, you will get a $70 giftcard.

:bomb: If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as you ship it before the "Ship by" date "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value" (as of 5/2), and your games are received in the condition you declared.

How long do I have after I lock in a trade online before I have to ship it?
30 days. Has been recently changed to "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value".

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
According to BB: "We will not accept more than 3 games of the same title and platform from a customer (or address) in a year. Please do not submit more than the limit as excess submissions WILL NOT BE RETURNED." Example, you can trade 3 copies of Portal 2 for PS3 and 3 copies of Portal 2 for x360 without problems. Some people have been banned from trade-ins at BB due to the violation of this policy. If you plan on trading more than 3 copies of a game per platform by doing it through various stores, you do so at your own risk and discretion.

:bomb: Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
BB used to be strict about complete copies, but this has changed, and ppl are trading games in store without manuals or cover sleeve for full TIV. If you trade online it's sometimes YMMV. I would advise you to send in complete games (case, disc, manual) since some ppl are reporting only getting 50% of the locked TIV.

I see people talking about getting Amazon giftcards by trading at Best Buy. How are they doing that?
Some Best Buys sell Kindle giftcards which can be used on Amazon.com like regular Amazon giftcards. You will not get the Kindle card with your trade, but you can buy them with your BB giftcard.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
According to BB's own FAQ:
Q: Is trade-in limited to items I bought at Best Buy?
A: No.

I don't know why this happens, but apparently some stores do not have their system setup to take non-BB purchased items at this time. Check the link above regarding stores that do video games trade-ins first.

Seems like it happens mid morning. Probably in an hour or so.
Yes a good idea... until you go to Best Buy at 10 this morning, check the TIV for Kirby there on the computer (30) and then buy 4 copies and go to the BB 4 miles away and arrive at 10:35 to find out that the TIV has dropped to 11. I made the guy show me the screen since I figured he was looking at the DS version but nope, TIV dropped.

Epic Mickey is back to $30 in case anyone still had theres from when it dropped to $11
EM never went to 11, it was 25 through the sale. I sold my last one yesterday for 25 figuring it would have to drop soon. Whoops. KEY is the one that went to 11.

Any idea on how Amazon will treat the fact that all the different MKs have different UPC numbers? I was going to send in two copies of MK, after selling the Kitana Codes, for 33.75, but if Amazon is going to make a deal about it, I'd rather just trade them in to BB for 30 and forgo the issues.

Oh oops, didn't bother going back in time to check. Wrong game

I'm having too much fun with this. My wife wanted to go to the mall for something and I made her do a loop through EB Games with me, and I bought a couple random games I knew I could throw in the pile with EM for more than they were selling for. She was very confused, like "Why are we buying a tennis game for a system we don't even own."

That is how us flippers roll. Buy low sell high.

Heh, UPS showed up at my door last week with 7 packages. All I said was, "Buy low, sell high brother, buy low sell high."

God of War 3, god of war collection, and COD world at war all go up to $20. Going to make a trip tonight to bestbuy.

Wives. They are an interesting bunch. I remember a very similar conversation with mine from about 2 years ago. I always know when she wants to use my amazon credit though because she starts saying things like, "do you need to go to the mall to trade anything in?". Normally she's not pro-flipping.

I just wish that GS had TIVs that were not the functional equivalent of getting punched in the face and having your games stolen, so that I could occasionally use some of the BB GCs to buy games and get GS GCs and repeat that, instead of using my CC at GS.

Three words:

Promos, promos, promos.

Keep an eye out for promos that offer a good percentage for having X or Y amount of games with NO minimum trade value required for games traded in.

Then bring in games that have decent value still and if you're a game or two short for the top percentage tier, then buy a couple :ps2: Maddens for $.99 each and trade those right back in to get up to the max level.;)

If you do a LOT of trading(like I used to:cry:) to Gamestop, then you should also look into the Edge/Power Up Rewards card, as that does add 10% when you get the "Pro" level version.

When you only have older games to trade to Gamestop, then you're better off waiting for a promo like the one they have going now, where you get $10 more in credit for every three games traded. Turn those $2-3 value games into $5-6 values. Of course, it helps if you bought those cheap elsewhere originally and aren't LOSING money on them.

You also HAVE to do one thing they always tell you when you start trading stocks: DIVERSIFY.

Don't just stick to Gamestop and Best Buy(at which you can buy Kindle gift cards, which work on Amazon as regular Amazon credit btw, so you can buy stuff from AMZ and flip back to GS and BB;)), but also look into local stores to stock up on cheap games to get rid of back to GS as well as larger chains like those run by Transworld Entertainment(FYE, Coconuts, etc).

Many of them take in game trades and offer cash and credit options. If you look hard enough you can sometimes find games to buy cheap from GS to sell to FYE for two or more times what you paid at GS.

It does take determination to do this on such a hardcore level though and even I have fallen victim to wanting that instant gratification that GS gives at times.

But in order to make the best amount back for what you put in, you HAVE to be diligent, patient and resourceful.

Derclaw, listen to IATCG, he knows what he's doing. Sadly we no longer have Hollywood Video, Gamecrazy or the $5 kmart/sears clearances, but monitoring several stores TIVs and prices can still pay off.

Those TiVs are epic. Gonna trade:
:360:WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2011 for $30 (got it on Black Friday for the same price)
:wii:Mario Party 8 for $30 (got it as a gift, not playing it anymore)
:wii:Super Mario Galaxy 1 for $30 (maybe)
For those games to be worth $60-90, that is awesome. Now only if I can find a cheap Epic Mickey...
I'm in a similar boat. From what I've researched, it sounds like expect 3 weeks from sending the game out the door to getting your gift card. This lag time for BB to say they have received the game seems long, though. Not sure if they are just behind, or what, but UPS also has a notice in the tracking page that some of their hubs have been hit with really bad weather, delaying shipments, too, so that might have something to do with it.

I general, I'd wait until next week, if only because this program is probably limping along and I'd not want to draw any attention to myself right now.
Two games (each in two separate mailers) were signed for Thursday (from the UPS tracking numbers) by dealtree. The account still has not be updates as "received" or anything (nor have I received any type of e-mail about the receipt of the items).

I suggest removing the "Trade 2 for $60" and "Trade 3 for $60" from the thread title. Its unnecessary to advertise it exactly as bestbuy does...it just causes confusion here. Make it a general bestbuy trade in thread like the amazon one.

Thanks for the heads up on Epic Mickey. Even at $16.00 at ToysRus, I wasn't sure I wanted to deal with the camera issues to play it. Easy choice to just trade it in.

How much longer is Epic Mickey deal at TRU going on?

I already locked in the TiV, then went to the one closest to me and ask where the gamer mags where and the guy in the game section looked like he never heard of them. Then went to CS and the guy says well if their not up front we don't have anymore. Then asked to price check Vanquish, figuring at least I'll have something to show for the trip...nope scanner says it $40.

Kinda pissed with gas prices and all. But if its still going on guess it worth trying the next closest. Buy 6, 3 for me, 3 for parents addy and make 84-tax&gas.

Epic Mickey Deal was dead for me over the weekend (It was live on 4/30 and dead on 5/1 at my store), so I think it's dead now.

Probably saves me a wasted trip anyways...thanks. Hmm I do have about 26 days left to find another deal.

Don't know how BB can do that? 30 days is a long time and a game's value can easily drop dramatically.

That's going to be part of my experiments over the next few weeks, I think. To see how close to that deadline you can get. I mean, 30 days is an eternity in video games.

SO SO Sorry, i know this has been asked countless times before, but if my best buy sells kindle gift cards, i can buy them and use them as amazon gift cards right? I just enter it like a regular amazon gift card and i get it on my account? Or is it done a different way?

They just enter like normal gift cards and go into the gift card total. The only thing annoying about it is that, depending on how much you do this, you're going to have a big pile of GCs on your desk.

Went to Best Buy and they told me I had to be 18 to trade in games.

Weird considering I trade in games to Gamestop all the time.

Just be glad you didn't get arrested, then told that you have to be 18 to go to jail, and then shipped off to BB's private game-trade-in jail, never to be heard from again.

EDIT: As a serious note, people under 18 (I think that's the age) can sometimes get out of contracts if they want, so -- in theory -- you could sue BB and get your games back eventually, if you decided it was a crappy trade. I don't know much about this, but I guess that would be the reason why BB would have turned you away. Seems kind of self-defeating, though, since I'd say that even with games becoming more "grown up" there is still a huge portion of the population that is under 18 and plays games (and in reality those are probably the people that most need/want to trade in games, since money is probably more of an issue for 17 year olds in general).

Seems like GameStop has taken up that policy officially this year too. At least one of my stores checks ID to make sure you are 18 now, and they mentioned it was a corporate policy now.

Probably something to do with pawn laws, but just be glad the GameStop in your area hasn't stopped you.

More likely has to do with the laws that under 18 = minor = you do not have the capacity to make decisions as an adult would by law.

theres not a whole lot of games on that trade-in lists for the 2 or 3 for 60

I have a good one for the flippers. It's a YMMV of corse. If you buy two Call of Duty games at Best Buy you get a $30 gift card. Best Buy price matched K-Mart on CoD WaW and CoD4 to $20 each. Trade in value for W@W is $20.
Got CoD4 and W@W for $43.28 yesterday and got a $30 GC
Got CoD W@W X2 for $43.28 today and got a $30 GC
Traded in CoD W@W X3 for $60 GC.
So basically I used $86.56 in gift card money and got CoD4 and $120 in gift cards.

BIG NEWS * Online trade has been changed to items must be received within 14 days.

Also it seems like online option is now: playable or not.. no mention of complete anymore.

These games are 30 each in store. Are you actually saying you got bestbuy to price match? If so then they pm'd wrong

You still got the giftcard even when you pricematched? Did they automatically give it to you still or did you have to ask for it?

What has been everyone's mileage with using the BB credit to purchase a card that works for Amazon? I wasn't that interested until I saw they're paying $30 for older sports games like NHL 11 but I'd rather have amazon credit.

I mean, it works. I don't know what else you're looking for. They have $25 or $50 card varieties near the kindles if your store has them at all.

Yes, twice, after they found the price on K-Marts website and price matched, gave me the gift card, don't ask for it, it's automatic, then I payed using a gift card. The second time I think the cashier was going to let me use the new gift card she was giving me to pay for it, all they cared about was the price match, not the gift card.

guessing you did it for 360 then since PS3 version is showing full price online still.

Excellent work! though may be difficult to PM now b/c Kmart is showing out of stock; depends on who does the price match for you.

I told them they have them "in store" and TRU was the same price "in store". They didn't call the stores. I was honest, I told them it shows up as out of stock on the Kmart site and it doesn't come up at all on TRU site. Both times the put " price matching Kmarts web site in there comments for the PM.

Just noticed it tonight. 30 days was epically long, but the fact that there is no notice as far as when they did the switch is sketchy. I had locked in some games that I'd like to trade it, but wanted to get one in as a test before sending the rest. Now they'll never make it since BB won't officially acknowledge "receipt" for like a week (at least?) after they sign for it.
