BEST BUY'S VIDEO GAMES TRADE-IN PAGE

Check most up-to-date TIV using BB's Video Games Value Estimator.

Check which BB stores do trade-ins here.
In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

:bomb: The values in the Lists do not match the values in the Estimator. What's up with that?
I don't know. It seems the Lists are usually updated on Sundays, and the TIVs are adjusted to reflect the List in a few days. But as trades are made, the TIVs may change and the Lists are not updated frequently. Again, check the Estimator for latest TIV.

The promo says "Trade 2..." or "Trade 3..." but I only want to trade 1 game, will I still get $x amount?
You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. The promo is titled "Trade 2" etc to make the giftcards sound more lucrative.

The 2 games I want to trade are worth more than $60 combined according to the Estimator. Does that mean I will only get $60 for the 2 games?
No. You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. For example, if your total according to the Estimator is $70, you will get a $70 giftcard.

:bomb: If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as you ship it before the "Ship by" date "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value" (as of 5/2), and your games are received in the condition you declared.

How long do I have after I lock in a trade online before I have to ship it?
30 days. Has been recently changed to "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value".

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
According to BB: "We will not accept more than 3 games of the same title and platform from a customer (or address) in a year. Please do not submit more than the limit as excess submissions WILL NOT BE RETURNED." Example, you can trade 3 copies of Portal 2 for PS3 and 3 copies of Portal 2 for x360 without problems. Some people have been banned from trade-ins at BB due to the violation of this policy. If you plan on trading more than 3 copies of a game per platform by doing it through various stores, you do so at your own risk and discretion.

:bomb: Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
BB used to be strict about complete copies, but this has changed, and ppl are trading games in store without manuals or cover sleeve for full TIV. If you trade online it's sometimes YMMV. I would advise you to send in complete games (case, disc, manual) since some ppl are reporting only getting 50% of the locked TIV.

I see people talking about getting Amazon giftcards by trading at Best Buy. How are they doing that?
Some Best Buys sell Kindle giftcards which can be used on Amazon.com like regular Amazon giftcards. You will not get the Kindle card with your trade, but you can buy them with your BB giftcard.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
According to BB's own FAQ:
Q: Is trade-in limited to items I bought at Best Buy?
A: No.

I don't know why this happens, but apparently some stores do not have their system setup to take non-BB purchased items at this time. Check the link above regarding stores that do video games trade-ins first.

Hmmm... So the received within 14 days thing is a bit strange. I see in the FAQ that it used to be 30 days to ship which is what I think Dealtree did before for cash trades. 14 days for receipt is kind of unfair since UPS can be so slow for some of us. I see the shipping location is now Minnesota, though, so maybe that helps a bit. I mean, for Amazon my UPS shipments take 8-9 days, which means I'd have to ship within about 4 days to be sure it would get there on time.

It seems like they should make it 14 (or even 7 days) but have that be a ship-by date, not a receipt date...

Oh well... I'll give TW II a whirl for a few days. As you guys say, maybe I won't even want to keep it longer than that anyway ;).

Glad I dropped Fable III yesterday... I bought 2 rounds fTWII (actually ended up doing the PS3 one in 3 different GS stores, since no one here had more than one - bought 2 in different stores, then took to the 3rd where I know the guys and they redid the transaction with the free game) and then picked up Fable 3 with my $10 coupon and dropped them at BB. My BB is SO easy to trade at. They roll right through it. I'm in and out. Much faster, in fact, than GS, who only had one employee at each store and they were overwhelmed.

Edit - Haha - just saw that is said fTWII - but it's funny, so I am not fixing it :)

Since the other thread is dead I wanted to ask about the 10% coupons here...

It says there's a limit on the items at 3 but is that in one transaction or can I use those coupons 3 separate times as long as it 's 1 item each time?

They may enforce the 3 per coupon limits but I have used this coupon sometimes 6+ times during a promotion, so while you may not be able to buy more then three games in a transaction, if you print multiple coupons you'll be able to buy as many as you want spread out throughout the promotion.

My only advice is to use some discretion (i.e. different cashiers, not all in one trip, etc.).

The computers won't block you from doing it but an overzealous cashier or manager may

Ah cool thanks, I actually used the cell phone one so maybe I'll print one out. Trying to decide what I want to do, got SF 3DS with a $5 digital GC and the 10% off as a placeholder for Zelda on Sunday (my digital GC expires before then)... if I just straight up buy Zelda and keep SF I'll use the coupon again.

:cry:Damn I have to send out my copy of Fable 3 now, Deal Tree still says they haven't received my copy of Medal of Honor yet that I sent out a month ago.

Anyone know how accurate the GS PickUp@Store locator is? I really only want to do this if I know the games are at the store. Otherwise it is just too much running around.

You can't just use the locator, you need to actually submit it. And when you submit it, it allows you to choose another store as a back up.

So far I think 3 out of 4 holds worked for me, with one not being in stock and choosing a (random) store about 45min away. You'll get a confirmation email saying you submitted and then a confirmation email saying it's either in stock and being held or out of stock and not (or that it was held for you at your backup store).

Thanks! Not many copies of TWII around me so with gas at nearly $4 I need to factor in the drive cost:)
I guess I'm not the only one that kept one of six copies of tw2 that I got today, the game is terrible. Hopefully it holds at $30 tomorrow.
I always have the urge to hold onto some games I plan to trade in to mess around/get a few trophies/achievements before I get rid of them but it makes me nervous knowing the TIV might drop at any time >.>

@8055: Brink is a Bethesda title, not EA

@jlenny: TW2 and Brink's TIV will drop within the next 24-48 hours, can almost guarantee it
Is fable 3 the only game that's dropped out of the best flips (fable 3, tw2, brink, etc)?
Brink is gone now. There is another new one missing today that started with a T. I don't know what it was.

Ugh. Two Worlds 2 and Brink just got taken off the list.

The estimator still says TW2 still goes for $30, but I don't get off work for another 3 hours...I think it will definitely be gone by then.

traded in 2 copies of halo reach and two worlds 2 for $90 credit. with the buy one get one half off deal i got la noire and infamous 2 for $6 out of pocket. not a bad deal at all in my opinion.

is it possible to order kindle card online or is there a way to find out whether any near by store sells them (other than calling)?
I think you can try. They are suppose to reject it but I think it's at the discretion of the person doing the trade in and not something the system rejects automatically.

But know that they all share the same account. And also, the online team has access to your instore trade in history. So you risk getting banned if they ever got around to enforcing their rules. Although nobody has reported being banned by BB/Dealtree.
How do you know that this is true? When did they start keeping track with the instore and online together? I've always traded 3 instore and 3 online w/o problems.

Brink in still 30 TIV @ amazon
Brink is $34.99 used at GS? That's still not a positive flip even with PUR.
Combined with the B2G1 Free it is... 34.99x2x90% = 62.98 (not including tax), get $90 for trading in 3.
Brink is $34.99 used at GS? That's still not a positive flip even with PUR.
34.99 x 2 = 69.98 (+tax-10%PUR) for 3 copies

Trade the 3 copies to BB for 30 x3 = 90... how is that not positive flip?

edit: damn you cheapfrag, beat me to it. lol.

2nd edit: This may not be too profitable if you are using cash at GS to start your flip, but most people are using their GS credit to transfer to BB (or even to AmZ) credit.

Yeah I guess, but Two Worlds II is better since that's $26.99 used. I prefer positive flips without promos added on, as then the promos would just be icing on the cake.

Brink in still 30 TIV @ amazon
I mentioned this before. I traded in something (not sure what but it was a real trade in of 1 game and not a flipping situation) at a local store and got an email about it by mistake. They sent another email saying the first one was a mistake.
ya, i'm using it to transfer gamestop credit to best buy, and then best buy credit to amazon.
what's BB credit? are those gift cards or reward points?
what's BB credit? are those gift cards or reward points?
It's a gift card.

BB trade in doesn't have TW2 show up for me. Anyone else have the same issue? Forgot to lock it in last night just in case it dropped.

Protip: You don't get RZ points for buying things with gift cards, so when you trade in games, ask for them to put the credit on the yellow card maked "Store Credit". That's technically a "store credit" card and will give you RZ points.

In store yesterday they had a hard time finding that game as well for some reason, when I traded it in but eventually she found it in there system.

Shit, never heard of this before. Was this "Store Credit" card from an older system BB used to us? More details please :)

I don't care about RZ (at least for now)
I have gift card from trade in. How do I turn that into Amazon GC?
Shit, never heard of this before. Was this "Store Credit" card from an older system BB used to us? More details please :)
No, it's the same system as far as I know. It looks just like a regular gift card except it says "Store Credit" on it.

go into a BB store, ask where the kindle cards are, buy kindle cards, pay with BB gift card. It is that simple.
Yeah I guess, but Two Worlds II is better since that's $26.99 used. I prefer positive flips without promos added on, as then the promos would just be icing on the cake.
Ideal situation, sure everyone wants what you want, but since everyone and their brother/sister/mother/father is out moving Two Worlds 2 inventory from GS to BB, there are not many other games that are as profitable (that have been shared in this thread: for obvious competition in your area reasons).
I prefer positive flips without promos added on, as then the promos would just be icing on the cake.
That's ridiculous... most flips to gamestop only work with the promos added on. So you are saying if GS's base TIV isn't profitable you don't do it?...

thanks
it's a shame fable 3 is no longer $30 and I bought 2 from gohastings yesterday....should have seen that one coming

I'm still on the edge of deciding on whether to flip my best buy gc for amazon? I know this may not be thread related, but does best buy overprice their tvs?

Best Buy overprices everything, plus when you buy from Amazon they will come in and set it up for you. Not that it matters, but free shipping>>>carrying it to your house

I traded in YESTERDAY (stopping at 3x gamestops)
3x Fable III
6x Brink (3 each system)
6x Two Worlds II (3 each system)
Paid approximately $311 in GS credit using B2G1F

Immediately exchanged at Best Buy for
15x $30 = $450 Gift Card (and she screwed up so I actually got more)
That's a 45% improvement!

That was the best flip ever, way easier than hunting Target clearance.
And I can buy just about anything now thanks to Kindle/Amazon Gift cards.
The only reason I didn't get more is that Best Buy has a 3x title/system limit.
Does anyone know if it's actually enforced at the store level?

Note: GS would NOT sell me the $35 EA games on B2G1F at 2 stores, didn't even ask at the 3rd :(
Anyone have luck stacking the $10 PUR coupons on the EA price?
want to trade in bulletstorm epic edition for 360 for the 2 for $60 deal. Do you guys know nay other game on the list i can get less for $30?
You could just trade your bulletstorm for $30, they just call it trade 2 for 60 to sound more appealing.

Just take the Bulletstorm in, you'll get 1x$30
you don't need 2 games to trade in, that's just how they market it so it looks like you'll have enough for 1 new game.

haha that's nice. I'd probably do the same but to make that kind of money, you'll need money which I don't have much right now
so fable 3 is $30 tiv on GS?
