BEST BUY'S VIDEO GAMES TRADE-IN PAGE

Check most up-to-date TIV using BB's Video Games Value Estimator.

Check which BB stores do trade-ins here.
In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

:bomb: The values in the Lists do not match the values in the Estimator. What's up with that?
I don't know. It seems the Lists are usually updated on Sundays, and the TIVs are adjusted to reflect the List in a few days. But as trades are made, the TIVs may change and the Lists are not updated frequently. Again, check the Estimator for latest TIV.

The promo says "Trade 2..." or "Trade 3..." but I only want to trade 1 game, will I still get $x amount?
You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. The promo is titled "Trade 2" etc to make the giftcards sound more lucrative.

The 2 games I want to trade are worth more than $60 combined according to the Estimator. Does that mean I will only get $60 for the 2 games?
No. You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. For example, if your total according to the Estimator is $70, you will get a $70 giftcard.

:bomb: If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as you ship it before the "Ship by" date "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value" (as of 5/2), and your games are received in the condition you declared.

How long do I have after I lock in a trade online before I have to ship it?
30 days. Has been recently changed to "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value".

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
According to BB: "We will not accept more than 3 games of the same title and platform from a customer (or address) in a year. Please do not submit more than the limit as excess submissions WILL NOT BE RETURNED." Example, you can trade 3 copies of Portal 2 for PS3 and 3 copies of Portal 2 for x360 without problems. Some people have been banned from trade-ins at BB due to the violation of this policy. If you plan on trading more than 3 copies of a game per platform by doing it through various stores, you do so at your own risk and discretion.

:bomb: Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
BB used to be strict about complete copies, but this has changed, and ppl are trading games in store without manuals or cover sleeve for full TIV. If you trade online it's sometimes YMMV. I would advise you to send in complete games (case, disc, manual) since some ppl are reporting only getting 50% of the locked TIV.

I see people talking about getting Amazon giftcards by trading at Best Buy. How are they doing that?
Some Best Buys sell Kindle giftcards which can be used on Amazon.com like regular Amazon giftcards. You will not get the Kindle card with your trade, but you can buy them with your BB giftcard.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
According to BB's own FAQ:
Q: Is trade-in limited to items I bought at Best Buy?
A: No.

I don't know why this happens, but apparently some stores do not have their system setup to take non-BB purchased items at this time. Check the link above regarding stores that do video games trade-ins first.

So I bought a total of 9 copies of TW2 at gamestop over the past two days, and traded them all into 2 seperate BB loacations. Apparently the 3 of each game per platform isnt real, or is location specific because they didnt give me any trouble at all. I'm sure a lot of this depends on your store but both of mine (in central MA) are apparently very lenient. Also traded in Brink and Dead Space 2, and grabbed CHild of Eden and $300 dollars in Kindle credit
On a side note any other CAG's around this area (978 if there are any) notice that there are like 6 Gamestops and 3 Best Buys within a 15 mile radius

Got my other copies in and Made $60 in profit total in two days. The other money will go to amazon so I can buy books. The $60 is For videogame money.
Wow.. what a clusterf&*^

Did anyone else have this happen?

I locked in 3 copies of Super Mario Galaxy on 05/12 for each individual sku (the best buy trade in website had three listed) because I wasn't sure which copies I'd get from amazon warehouse. I then sent just three copies in like 48 hours later ( I have amazon prime) and couldn't find a way to delete the other 6 trade ins that were for the other sets of skus.

Anyways I never heard anything back from Best Buy so I called after a month went by and got an explanation that they changed the "middle man" processing facility but everything looked good with my trades.

Another week or so went by without as much as a confirmation and then today BAM! I got e-mail confirmations saying that they received all 9 trade-ins (3 copies of SMG for each sku x 3 individual skus). Which is hilarious because I only sent in three copies.

Did they just lose my copies and decide to payout for everything that I originally submitted?

Anyways it looks like I'll be getting a gift card for $270 when it should only be $90
Nice. I just got my giftcard from a trade received 31 May. It was for 120, which was what I had locked in, but had only sent in 5 of 6 games... so I was expecting 100 but got 120. Not as good as you, but still free 20 bucks. That is, until I confirm value of card and spend it asap.

That happened to me too...but I was only credited 1 extra game lol.

Two Worlds 2 and Brink the only games worth flipping from the GameStop B2G1 sale? I'm a little iffy because I have to spend my own money since I don't have any GameStop credit stored up.

Also, do these PowerUp coupons stack? Guess I should spend some points on coupons if they do stack on top of the sale.

Depends on how you do it... If you find 3 TW2, then why drop one to 16, since it becomes the free one? See what I'm saying? I bought 3 and 3 of TWII and a fable with a $10 coupon, since that dropped Fable to $26 and then PUR to $23.xx... Traded for 30...

Stupid question and I apologize if it's been answered anywhere, didn't see it in the first post. Are the Amazon Kindle gift cards usually with the rest of the gift cards or somewhere else in the store? Went in to a BB earlier and couldn't find any in the gift card section.

In the store I was in today, they were moved to the computer department next to the e-readers, which is near the laptop computer/Ipad area. They had $25 and $50 ones.

Thanks dude. I got the feeling I should've checked there, but didn't think of it until after I'd left.

Stopped by Best Buy on my home to trade in 2-Brinks and a TW2...ended up wasting 40 minutes as their "system couldn't connect". Guy asked the manager that walked by if there was any workaround so I could get my credit and shrugged his shoulders and said "I don't know". Nice. So fearful of losing the trade-in value tomorrow I went ahead and locked it in online. Horrible, horrible experience.

Went to best buy store with 3 copies of two worlds 2 and the price was 30 as of 8:30 central time. Howeve, the trade in system is down for maintenece or down in general. The lady personally garenteed if the price drops tommorow she will give me a gift card for the difference. She was a manager so I doubt this applies to all stores. Hopefully she cones through if the price drops.

Same exact thing happened to me but i got to wast 1hr and 40 minutes since they were convinced they could fix it. It was super annoying.

I just got home from a similar, but better experience. The first cashier had the issue. Tried it twice, and then went to get the floor manager. The Floor Manager tried it on a different register ending up with the same issue. I offered the suggestion that I could come back tomorrow "but what if the values change?". They both told me they would not. I asked if the floor manager could write the values down for me. She did. I asked then if they would honor those TIV's even if the values changed, and she said to come in after 7:30pm tomorrow - she would be working and would take care of it.

The games I traded are finally verified. I have 2 Brink games to trade, but I think I'll just mail it too since I'm not in a hurry to get my gift cards.

I had the same problem with the system not working in the video game area around 3 p.m. CST today, but they made the gift card up at customer service with no problem.
From what I understood, it was not the trade in system, rather it was the system for applying credit to gift cards.
Better to lock the games in online just in case BB does change it.
From what I understood, it was not the trade in system, rather it was the system for applying credit to gift cards.
Pretty big bummer. Went to one store and arrived at 8:00pm, took about 45 minutes for them to realize they could not do it. Hauled ass to another store, explained it to them, and they said that that has happened a couple of times and if they just "redid" the trade in that it would work. I suggested that they call rather than spend the 30 minutes it takes to put in 7 games and the CSR was adamant that it would work. Obviously it didn't and I didn't get out of the store until 9:30.

I went ahead and locked them all in online in case the prices bottom out before the system comes back up, since if the system isn't up tomorrow morning I won't be able to get back in until Tuesday night at the soonest.

I think that everyone that got a manager to "lock in" the value should do the same, just in case the manager has a change of heart or something. I don't think they would, but I would not be shocked to hear somebody complaining about it either in a few days.

Early bird gets the worm on this kind of stuff. Also, always check your BB TIV's before you head out to a store; glad I checked on Fable 3 this morning. I couldn't even go anywhere on Thursday, so I was late myself just starting this morning, but was hitting my first GS right as they opened at 10. Managed to trade in a few sets of brink's, Tw2's, and an RDR as a filler (great at the $26.99 pricepoint if you can't get a third TW..trades at BB for $20), as well as a Bulletstorm for $30 (bought the other day at BB for $17.50 used w/ the mag coupon). Ended up converting around $120 GS into $100 Amazon, 3 copies of Strange Journey DS, Wario Land: Shake It Wii, MUA2 Wii, (all of these games were sick clearance-priced) and a used BF: Bad Co 2 PS3 (used the mag coupon again), as well as my last filler game, which I will hold onto for now: Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Limited Ed. PS3 (nice steelbook, with bonus CD). This of course was marked the same as the vanilla UNS at $29.99, so I used that with a set of Brink's at one store, since you don't see it that often.

I wanna throw out another tip for a GS>BB/Amazon (Kindle cards) flip, but I don't want it to disappear off the list, because I've got a little more credit to move over! Definitely want to help my fellow CAG's, though, so screw it! The percentages are not quite as nice as Two Worlds 2, or to a lesser degree, Brink, but those are basically gone as of tomorrow, most seem to think. As I mentioned earlier, Red Dead is $26.99 at GS right now, and fairly available at most locations, and is going for $20 at BB. And, our old friend Fallout: New Vegas is $17.99 for either platform, and has somehow crept back up to $14 at BB. Now that I have posted those, I know I am cursing myself for tomorrow! Good luck...

If you guys really want some money just do what i did-
Already Have Bulletstorm
Bought 2-two worlds 2 (360) 2-Two worlds 2 (PS3) 2-Brink (PS3/360) Total-about $133
Went to best buy and recieved $210 Gift Card
Than I bought about 8 $30 Itunes gift cards for about $25 each because of the 15% off sale. I can probably sell each one for about $30 on ebay. SO I will be hopefully sitting at a total of $260.

Is there a 15% sale for kindle GCs?

You realize ebay charges fees and so does paypal when you receive payment. You probably aren't looking at 260 but much less than that.

Don't like being a debbie downer, but after fees and shipping costs, I doubt you will have $260. You will most likely break even, from the BBY investment, which is still pretty good. Cash is always better than gift cards :)

On an unrelated note, I was just checking the BBY trade in page and saw that my local Best Buy was finally added to the accepting trade ins page...:whistle2:s...:whistle2:k...\\:D/

I will definitely not miss having to wait 2 months for my giftcards to come in the mail. I'm going tomorrow to trade in Dead Space 2, Crysis 2 and Halo Reach.
You realize ebay charges fees and so does paypal when you receive payment. You probably aren't looking at 260 but much less than that.
I realize that but then i might not sell them for exactly $30 either. If i sell one for $32-$3 fees-$1.50 shipping. Im still looking at a pretty decent profit.

Another one that's slightly better is Dead Rising 2. It's also $26.99 at GS and will get you $22 at Best Buy.

Who was at the Santana Row store trading in copies of Two Worlds 2 yesterday? I was just there and the Trade-in Supervisor denied me on the trade-in due to a number of reasons (which fluctuated from one to another during the conversation)....

1) they don't accept games with no manuals,
2) they don't accept games in a generic black case (even though it still had the cover art),
3) they don't accept "Pre-Owned" games at all; they only accept games that were bought "New"

^ Of course, none of this was in the Trade-In Policy, but the Supervisor gave me some "new policy" bs. The employees and the Supervisor seemed to know about the flip; the Supervisor even asked me if I was the same guy who came in yesterday with Two Worlds 2.

Oh well, I'll just try again tomorrow if the values hold; otherwise I'll just try the online route or return the games to GS.

yeah I was able to sell a $10 amazon gc for $14.50 so you might get lucky

They took one look at the game I was carrying (Two Worlds 2) and immediately said the system is down. Glad it wasn't a lie...

Yeah when I tried trading in the games, it said "Unable to connect" . Waste of an hour. The employee let me lock the tradein online using there computers. At first, he made it sound like they would just take the games after I locked it in online, but the employee had no idea how to do it online. I was standing at the trade kiosk, typing in the games and locking it in.

I might do that one. I don't care much about making profit. I just want to convert my gamestop credit to amazon credit and this would work out.

Well, I see it wasn't just me. I wasted an HOUR in 2 stores with them trying to get the system to work but it kept throwing them back to the start page or crashing or showing error screens.

What a fucking nightmare. It was so easy when I traded yesterday and today it was horrible. It is my wife's birthday and I just wanted to rush out really quickly and do a few trades - turned into a much longer expedition than I planned. I'm not happy, she's pissed, and I dislike Best Buy with a passion now :bomb:.

It wasn't so much that the system was down. That wouldn't have made me happy but if they had at least said that up front and didn't make me waste so much time that would have been OK. The problem was the total waste of time. At both stores, even though they were nearly empty, they had people with complex phone/return issues so I had to wait 20 minutes before they even got to me. Then at the first store they were convinced it was the new contraption they had for trade-ins that was the problem. They had some wacky device that looks like it took fingerprints, blood samples, etc ;). None of that stuff is required here for trades, but whatever. So they called the other store and of course no one picked up.

So I just went down there anyway. Once again had to wait a long time. Then instead of the main guy helping me I get some manager who has never done it before and he bumbles through several attempts, frequently opening and closing the games and looking at the discs multiple times (WTF!?). Finally he gave up and I had to wait for the main CS guy to finish his complex return issue to help me. He then goes through it all a few times, looks for gift cards with numbers in the front since the cards apparently don't scan, etc, etc... After 15-20 minutes of this he just tells me it isn't working. I then ask if they can write down the values so I can have some sort of guarantee in case they drop. First he tells me no way will they drop - it will take at least a month or two, he says (oh really?). Then he says he can't write them down as he looks at the "crashed" screen (never mind that we went through the values like 10 times). Then he says there would be no way to override it anyway even if it does drop. (OK, maybe there's such a thing as customer service and a manager approval for a gift card, eh?) Considering that both he and the manager apologized profusely for how long everything took they didn't make much effort to do anything about it. He just told me that before I come in again I should call to make sure the system is working first #-o. Well, we tried to do that but they didn't pick up...

Why do people on ebay do that? PSN cards were like that 2 a while back.

Huh, I didn't have any issues trading in a couple games yesterday (for me) at all.

..OK except for a paper jam which was fixed in about 2 minutes. :p

Sucks to hear people had issues.

Worst Best Buy in the area by far ... I never go to that one just for that reason. I still remember the last time I was there and the manager told me I could only get an online BB website match on a game if I presented my gamerzone membership card ... ...

Whoops. Forgot to lock in my trades online. Suddenly my pickup orders at GameStop seem silly...

Fight Night Champion, Dead Space 2, and Crysis 2 are however still $35 each thanks to the EA sale at GameStop and still getting $30 through Best Buy. Not as excellent as Two Worlds II but still profitable.

Stinks you had such a crappy experience. I went to trade in a couple games tonight and also found out their system was down. The employee doing my trades was one of the geek squad guys and it appears he handled it the opposite way of those buffoons you had to deal with. He looked like he knew what he was doing, tried entering the data a few times, tried two different gift cards, then quickly notified me the system was down and sincerely apologized that I would have to come back later. He then wrote down the transaction number and said my trade ins are accepted and locked in, they will just have to wait until the system is back up to finish.
Of course they still have time to screw up everything when I go back in later this weekend, and then I'll resort to mailing them as I also locked in the prices earlier today as I had a feeling their would be issues in store.
