BEST BUY'S VIDEO GAMES TRADE-IN PAGE

Check most up-to-date TIV using BB's Video Games Value Estimator.

Check which BB stores do trade-ins here.
In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

:bomb: The values in the Lists do not match the values in the Estimator. What's up with that?
I don't know. It seems the Lists are usually updated on Sundays, and the TIVs are adjusted to reflect the List in a few days. But as trades are made, the TIVs may change and the Lists are not updated frequently. Again, check the Estimator for latest TIV.

The promo says "Trade 2..." or "Trade 3..." but I only want to trade 1 game, will I still get $x amount?
You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. The promo is titled "Trade 2" etc to make the giftcards sound more lucrative.

The 2 games I want to trade are worth more than $60 combined according to the Estimator. Does that mean I will only get $60 for the 2 games?
No. You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. For example, if your total according to the Estimator is $70, you will get a $70 giftcard.

:bomb: If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as you ship it before the "Ship by" date "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value" (as of 5/2), and your games are received in the condition you declared.

How long do I have after I lock in a trade online before I have to ship it?
30 days. Has been recently changed to "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value".

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
According to BB: "We will not accept more than 3 games of the same title and platform from a customer (or address) in a year. Please do not submit more than the limit as excess submissions WILL NOT BE RETURNED." Example, you can trade 3 copies of Portal 2 for PS3 and 3 copies of Portal 2 for x360 without problems. Some people have been banned from trade-ins at BB due to the violation of this policy. If you plan on trading more than 3 copies of a game per platform by doing it through various stores, you do so at your own risk and discretion.

:bomb: Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
BB used to be strict about complete copies, but this has changed, and ppl are trading games in store without manuals or cover sleeve for full TIV. If you trade online it's sometimes YMMV. I would advise you to send in complete games (case, disc, manual) since some ppl are reporting only getting 50% of the locked TIV.

I see people talking about getting Amazon giftcards by trading at Best Buy. How are they doing that?
Some Best Buys sell Kindle giftcards which can be used on Amazon.com like regular Amazon giftcards. You will not get the Kindle card with your trade, but you can buy them with your BB giftcard.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
According to BB's own FAQ:
Q: Is trade-in limited to items I bought at Best Buy?
A: No.

I don't know why this happens, but apparently some stores do not have their system setup to take non-BB purchased items at this time. Check the link above regarding stores that do video games trade-ins first.
Sorry if this has been asked, but I didn't see it in the OP. Anyone know how long the Trade 2 Get 30% bonus is going on for?
promos usually change every Sunday. But I dont think theres a definitive answer.

Did the trade 2 for 30% replace the trade 2 for $60? Since the 30% showed up tiv dropped like a rock. I had been tracking trade in prices for mortal kombat, MLB 2k11 and others and the cart value went from $154 to $105 with this sorry ass promotion.

July 2nd.

It's kind of hidden, but when you are on the "Video Game Value Estimator" page there is a link on the top right corner that says "Show promos available in stores only" and that's where I found it.

I know the OP says you can trade in three copies of the same game, but I remember reading conflicting reports of this in particular cases. Anyone recently trade in multiple copies of a game without trouble?
does anyone know if you could trade in a dsi in-store?
You should be able to. The trade in estimator says it's worth 60 bucks if it includes all original cables etc.

I'm not sure if Best Buy takes accessories, but last time I saw a guy bring in a Wii Fit balance board and a bag full of games as I was leaving.
does anyone know if you could trade in a dsi in-store?
Yes. This started on Sunday. You can trade ds lite/dsi/dsi xl for 50/75/100.
I've never traded in store @ BB before. Is it a pretty easy process? Do they just send you to the customer service section? Also, disc only game ok now in store?
My store currently does it as Geek Squad but in the next few weeks stores are going through a transformation and the trade-in desk will be in the gaming section. They should take disc-only but the believe the trade-in might be reduced. Might be.

Until July 2nd at the earliest. I can confirm this. Take advantage if it before TIVs drop.
Yes, everyone on this board, the SD board, the FW board, the amazon boards, and even Amazon itself (since the cards specifically say you can get any damn thing you want with them) have been saying that these Kindle cards work on anything at amazon as part of a months-long plan to get you to buy the GC and waste your hundred dollars. Our plan is almost compleeeeeeeeeeeeeet! :applause:
I couldn't find the Kindle card at my local Best Buy so then I looked it up and found out that apparently a few select states don't carry them in store. :bomb:

Which states? Guess I better check to see if my store has them before I go trade in games later...

All it states is this:

*Note: Amazon.com physical gift cards are not available for sale in Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, or Louisiana. Designs and denominations vary by retailer.

Just got back from my local Best Buy. Traded in 3 copies of Black Ops, 1 with a case and coverart, and 2 disc-only. Came out with $89.70 in credit.

Motherless fuckin' shit. It's looking like the TIV's on all of the games I saw in BB's used section that're pretty recent releases went DOWN enough that I'd need the 'trade 2 for 30% more' just to get the old fuckin' values.:bomb:

Oh well. It's looking like they're ending up being exactly like GS after an initial period of being pretty decent. Maybe I'll just buy a couple $25 Kindle cards with the $50 merchandise credit I got yesterday for returning Mortal Kombat(after the return period but with my original receipt) and call it a day.

Ummm I think they know people are buying it for $15 with the coupon. Gamestop gives $23 today base for it if you wanna go that route and pre-ordering the E3 titles that are part of the promotion bumps it to $34.50.

You're acting like you don't know how trade in works. Or are you complaining for the sake of complaining. Black Ops came out an eon ago and is still worth $20-$30 and plenty of games that came out later are worth 10. What the hell does release date have to do with TIVs? It never has.
They SHOULD get around their own sales by lowering TIVs, no need for the bomb face lol
I was kinda hoping they would remain oblivious as usual, but I guess they finally have someone competent running their trade-in program who isn't going to let them continue to hemmorhage money on such trades.

It's been a while since I did any trades. I was kinda hoping the rapidly fluctuating values were just a fluke for a week or two and wouldn't last. The only other option left for me is Scamazon/NorScam and I refuse to use their program after the rejections I received the last time I sent them stuff.

As for the smiley thing, my favorite would be a middle finger smiley(if CAG had one;)).

I'm in FL and had no problem finding the amazon kindle gift cards of $25/$50 increments in a local Best Buy. Traded in $100 BB to $100 Amazon and redeemed it on amazon.com. EZ

I guess it varies by location then, just as many Florida stores still require you to have a Best Buy receipt in order to accept trade-ins.

Yes I read that. But I wanted to see if people had recent success with trading without cover art.

Also, if they give me 50% of the TIV, will calling result in getting the other 50%?
I don't know what the best thing to do is when I locked in the values on a different UPC at a higher price.

I recently was denied disc only trades in-store. They were wrong, they should have accepted them, but I couldn't convince them. Point is, whether you deal with someone competent or not is always YMMV.

Oh I'm trading in online because my BB doesn't take no-receipt trade ins :/
I'm guessing I'll be fine if I do a manual + disc trade right?

Earlier, I asked whether anyone had received an estimate without a prepaid shipping label. At the time, the only thing I was given was a link that told me to send my games to an address, without a prepaid label. If it helps anyone, I contacted their support, and later got sent one via e-mail.
How the hell do you get banned from Gamestop? Besides stealing.
You get banned from Gamestop for trading in multiple copies of games over the course of six months to a year(with manager's approval) and trading in 35 HDMI cables(out of a 50 pack you got for $50 from eBay;)) over the span of 2-3 days.

I think it was really the latter that did me in, but unfortunately I never received a clearly defined reason as to why I was perma-banned, so I don't really know for certain.

Thing is, it's only really the stores in my home area that know of the ban, so I can still go and possibly trade in at out of town stores. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm contemplating it soon.:D

I was gonna trade in about 25 HDMI cables at my GS but the manager told me that can't accept that many because of an issue at another store where that manager took in about 35 HDMI cables..

Three of my GS friends were fired for doing (or allowing) the same thing. But it sounds like you were DM banned ? Did you ever approach corporate about it, although I've heard they are hard asses, so it would most likely make things worse.

It wasn't all at one store, but I did give the employees at the one store a bit of lip about not wanting to take in 3-5 like my closest store was allowing. The people at my closest store got a kick outta seeing the receipt from eBay(which they required on every trade:cry:) where I only paid about $.89 per cable really. I think at the point I was trading them in they were getting around $4-5 each.;)

I burned through the remaining credit I had(around $175) during the last B1G1 before I found out I was completely banned from the stores. What I find funniest though is how they missed me still being allowed to use my card online in conjunction with other codes and such. I've cost them MORE money by taking part in a couple of really good glitches since I was banned, including one where they sent me about 20 games for free and a copy of Black Ops for around $21 SHIPPED. What sucked was the copy of BO they sent me was defective(and marked as such), so I had to go into one of the stores to swap it out.:whistle2:#

Actually it's supposed to be a corporate level ban, so I didn't even try to contact them about trying to get it reversed. Besides which, had I done so, they likely woulda stopped my purchasing from the website and/or my valuable subscription to Game Informer. If anything, it's good for reading on the crapper and/or doubles as tp if ya run out.
In regards to gamestop, you generally get banned if you act like an idiot in a store or if your purchase/trade activity is similar to a reseller.
I guess that's what they got me on then cuz I know my purchasing habits included multiples of some games too. But I guess corporate automatically thinks that anyone buying more than one copy must be reselling their fine quality wares(read: shit that looks like it was dragged along a dusty country road for a couple of miles, then dumped in a septic tank n left to dry).

On topic: I'm actually kinda annoyed that Best Buy is now doing like GS and allowing the trade-in of incomplete garbage. But I guess they gotta appeal to the lowest common denominator of the gaming population in order to survive n thrive like their big corporate brother GS has, eh?

You know me too well. Mind you, I have helped out other CAG's before when I've received very low priced games from glitches/sales($7 Uncharted last fall from TRU, Red Dead Redemption from the GS Power Saver sale), so it's not always for the 'omg evil hoarder' purpose.;)

You'd think that with as hard as people over at SD hit b2g1 sales and stuff that there would be a lot more people banned. You are the only person I've heard of getting banned, so I almost feel like it has to be the HDMI cables. Unless there is some big forum of people banned from GS that I don't know about.
