BEST BUY'S VIDEO GAMES TRADE-IN PAGE

Check most up-to-date TIV using BB's Video Games Value Estimator.

Check which BB stores do trade-ins here.
In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

:bomb: The values in the Lists do not match the values in the Estimator. What's up with that?
I don't know. It seems the Lists are usually updated on Sundays, and the TIVs are adjusted to reflect the List in a few days. But as trades are made, the TIVs may change and the Lists are not updated frequently. Again, check the Estimator for latest TIV.

The promo says "Trade 2..." or "Trade 3..." but I only want to trade 1 game, will I still get $x amount?
You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. The promo is titled "Trade 2" etc to make the giftcards sound more lucrative.

The 2 games I want to trade are worth more than $60 combined according to the Estimator. Does that mean I will only get $60 for the 2 games?
No. You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. For example, if your total according to the Estimator is $70, you will get a $70 giftcard.

:bomb: If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as you ship it before the "Ship by" date "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value" (as of 5/2), and your games are received in the condition you declared.

How long do I have after I lock in a trade online before I have to ship it?
30 days. Has been recently changed to "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value".

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
According to BB: "We will not accept more than 3 games of the same title and platform from a customer (or address) in a year. Please do not submit more than the limit as excess submissions WILL NOT BE RETURNED." Example, you can trade 3 copies of Portal 2 for PS3 and 3 copies of Portal 2 for x360 without problems. Some people have been banned from trade-ins at BB due to the violation of this policy. If you plan on trading more than 3 copies of a game per platform by doing it through various stores, you do so at your own risk and discretion.

:bomb: Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
BB used to be strict about complete copies, but this has changed, and ppl are trading games in store without manuals or cover sleeve for full TIV. If you trade online it's sometimes YMMV. I would advise you to send in complete games (case, disc, manual) since some ppl are reporting only getting 50% of the locked TIV.

I see people talking about getting Amazon giftcards by trading at Best Buy. How are they doing that?
Some Best Buys sell Kindle giftcards which can be used on Amazon.com like regular Amazon giftcards. You will not get the Kindle card with your trade, but you can buy them with your BB giftcard.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
According to BB's own FAQ:
Q: Is trade-in limited to items I bought at Best Buy?
A: No.

I don't know why this happens, but apparently some stores do not have their system setup to take non-BB purchased items at this time. Check the link above regarding stores that do video games trade-ins first.

That's likely what I'd do after getting credit at BB again(buy AMZ gc's), since their name is a major league LIE: Best Buy. More like Mediocre Buy or my personal favorite Worst Buy.
If they'd have more B2G1 sales on the used and/or priced them competitively then they should have no problems selling the stock they have.

But when some of the used titles are $40 NEW and $39.99 used with no discounts 90-95% of the time, I can see why the stock is stagnating there.
Their price for a majority of recent (up to 2011) releases is $39.99 which isn't too shabby when you compare it to GS. For CAG it's not the best deal (GoHastings and AWD are the best imo for used), but for the general mass BB's used price sale holds up well against GS. I think I saw the used price at a high of $45 (for inFamous 2).

Meh. My personal favorite is "Best Lie"

That was after I was told several times by a manager that the penny price for certain guides was a "mistake in the system" but that he'd be happy to sell them to me at full price.

EDIT: that's the only time I've ever sworn at ANYONE in a store. (manager/employee wise, never sworn at a fellow customer though either)

yeah, the 'gaming supervisor' was telling me i really know how to work the system. he says this every time i go in. i just tell him yeah whatever lets get this done with. lol. he asked where i got all the games and i said gamestop and he could care less. i just thought it was crazy he wouldnt take the blue backed ps2 games cuz he said they were fake games, lol.

Get a 50% extra trade-in credit when you pre-order/purchase Madden 12 Offer expires 09/03/2011

Its prob been said before but just a reminder. The sooner you take the games in for trade, the less of a chance of the TIV going down. One of my games dropped a little this week so I went ahead and traded in 6 for about $80 and preordered BF3. Very easy process. So glad I saw this thread for the info about the 40% bonus.
Madden 03? I was thinking of dumping 3 copies each of every Madden and every other sports title GS has for $.99($.90 after EDGE/PUR n B2G2F right now;)) on BB just to see how many they'd take and what their response would be.
My response would be, "I play alot of sports games" then grin awkwardly at them.
How are you guys trading in over 30+ PS2 games at BB when there's a limit of 3/title?
The limit is three per title, meaning you could trade in three of Madden 02, three of Madden 03 and so on.

It does seem at least a lil suspicious if someone were to walk in with stacks of PS2 games with three of each title and may make them question you more than if you came in with 30-50 unique $1 titles from GS.

So that's why if I'm gonna do this I plan on finding 20-40 unique titles from the B2G2.

i brought in that stack of 50 and no probs. turned away a few but i can just go back and find someone else and make them find it plus it gives me fodder for the trade 3 + 30%. so yeah...

Posted this in the other thread but that one is dead soooo....
Anything I should note buying at GS and trading at BB my gamestop has tons of ps2 games the guy says no one ever comes in looking for them so tomorrow I'm gonna buy a few and take them to BB the only thing I know about trading there is no more than 3 of the same game and you can only get a BB gift card. Can I preorder madden without paying it off. (might pay it off anyway because I have really been looking forward to it) If I brought in 30+ games 2 of each (lol) would they turn me away?
EDIT: and do you have to be 18+ to trade at BB I'm still 17 sadly

I think they extended the date for the 50% bonus for Madden 12 pre-order
Other than that, you have 40% bonus for any pre-order and 30% with 3 trade in

anyway
Came in with
Madden 11 - $10
Homefront - $10
34 ps2 games - $.50 each

left with $93

Not bad

I was able to trade in 153 ps2 games I bought at gamestop for around $190 (doing the B2G2 promo) and flipping it to BB for $322.50. If you ask me If I will do it again, the answer is no. It took me almost 4 hours in Gamestop because they had to get the games, I had to check the t-in value of bb, etc, then took me another 5hours in BB because the trade in system didn't want to accept the trade-in, so we had to re scan again and type in again the sku for the games (had to do 3 transactions, system handled 50 games with ease). So I made around $130 of bb credit for 9 hours. yuck.

fyi, i still followed the rules at bb (only 3 of the same title per console per year) that's why the bb gaming guys know me already and are pretty cool and nice still to me even if it takes them forever to do it. (they mentioned to me that corporate would actually commend them for taking such a big trade in). anyway, i might do it again with blockbuster this week, at least it won't be as many games :)

That was the math I came up with too. At $.45 a game you just can't say no to making $1.50(200% profit or a lil over) per game if doing enough to get a new release title for essentially half off or better by doing so.;)

i paid around $190 at gs because it wasn't all .99 cent games i bought, there a couple of decent flips there with the B2G2 PS2 deal, such as call of duty (i forgot the title) it was $17.99 each, paid 32.40 for two (with PUR) trades in for $6 at BB plus 50% madden, its $9 x 4 =36had to let my buddy trade in the other one though because of the limit of 3 per person at bb. anyway, if you really do your research, you can also get the $1.99 games at gs (you end up paying around $3.60) and trade it in for $6 at bb. still a good deal.

$32.40 to $36 is a pretty loose definition of a flip. There's 100+ .99 PS2 games and they're the most profitable. It's your money, but even my trade in without any bonus at all was more profitable than flipping 1.99 games.

Do they charge refurb fees at Best Buy? I don't want to buy a bunch of games at GS and then find out I have to return them all.

Nice flipping!

I agree its totally too much work. But the way I looked at it was that its a 300 percent profit margin. Turning 2$ into 6$ but still, I did the trade in on a pretty small scale and I was tired of it already. But if you have time and credit to burn, best buy gift cards/(amazon gc) goes a long way

That's why you nitpick the games WHEN buying them to make sure they're not completely trashed(even if they ARE disc only), as they should have no problems taking disc only stuff now but may reject it if it's in horrid shape.

Unfortunately that's a good 90% of Gamestop's stock in many cases, so you may be sifting through piles of $.99 games for a loooooong time to find 20-40 that don't look horrible.

Too much work? Too much work? You know how long I had to 'work' to make $1100 in GS credit a couple of years ago? A grand total of around 10 hours or so. Break that down. That comes out to around $110 an HOUR for not alot of 'work'.

That included cross referencing the Gamestop trade value thread that fellow CAG JP maintains quite well with the sales/clearances/other deals for various games and items and buying things that would make me an obscene amount of credit with the least amount of effort put out.

I actually had no discs turned away for scratches...take your pick whether that says something about the quality control at my GS or apathy at BB. Two were turned away because someone wrote their initials on the disc art with a Sharpie, and I didn't have a problem swapping those out at GS.

I had the same situation. I took 32 PS1 games along with some others for a total of 57. I wasn't sure how they would feel about so many games. He said thanks for coming in later in the day and he was excited that they would be able to brag about the large number of trades they took in.

Best Buy has taken over from Amazon as my trade-in place of choice, we will see how long these 40% and 50% kickers stay around. I was able to get $30 for L.A. Noire yesterday, of course I need to cancel my Madden pre-order quickly. The trade-ins on both inFamous and LBP were both in the $8-9 range with the kicker, not too shabby.

I definitely think that corporate (or at least on a store level) that BB fully encourages the trade-in program to their gaming employees in some fashion. I showed up with nearly 30 games, many of them requiring a manual search to find the title in their system and the girl was still happy and even eager to do it. Not like that false customer service eager either, it was genuine. Quality stores send the gaming workers to special training classes to learn about new and upcoming video games, they are constantly getting free swag from all the major hardware and software companies, etc. As I have said in a few previous post, I've gotten to know a few of the people who work the gaming counter at the closest BB and more-so than any other retailer I deal with they really seem to like their jobs.

I just hope that BB never takes the full GS business model though, where the gaming reps will HAVE to get so many magazine/Gamer Club/pre-orders or they're fired, since the reps at GS are fuckin' annoying with all of that shit they have to hawk already.

Recently they even started in with the gameplay guarantees as an added bit of annoyance, to which I responded to the one clerk 'if yer games didn't look like you cleaned them with sandpaper no one would need the guarantee bs'. That shut him right up.

Why do you have to cancel the Madden Pre order quickly? I cancelled my NCAA 12 preorder like 2 weeks after release. As far as I know the Preorders do not follow normal return periods. They cannot keep your money for something they never sold to you. At worst you should get a store credit no matter when you return it.

If the Madden pre-order is anything like the one from Catherine that I did at BB, where they advertised the bonus artbook/soundtrack like every other retailer did for pre-orders, then chances are they won't give out the bonus content with Madden which will make it an easy cancel for many.

But I understand why some want to cancel as quickly as possible, since sometimes you forget you put money down on something and I sincerely doubt BB has a system set up yet like GS where you can look up to see if you're owed any credit for stuff you forgot about.

It certainly isn't, they can't even look up a pre-order for your without a receipt (I'm sure they technically could, but it isn't how they are supposed to do it).

Exactly my thoughts. I've seen some false information on the forums before, but normally it's not the exact opposite of the truth.

since bbv sale was not a go and had to go for my plan B for my off day flip fest

went to gamestop picked up 92.. 99 cent and 1.99 games (no cases or books) for 43 bucks and took them all to best buy and it took him a hour to input each one for a total of 107 before the 50% madden pre order deal and came to 153.50...so i have might pick up madden and still have under 100 left over for my touch pad or something else not sure

lol wow, what's with the bestbuy forum guy saying the exact opposite, lol.
I guess they want the case/art/manual/etc, but telling people they need it for trade in cuz they can't replicate the artwork is hilariously wrong.
if i had an account there i would just link to the site that says 'disc condition the only factor'.
im hoping i get +50% on wed when i go to pick up madden. it says +50% for preorder/purchase, so that sounds like i can double dip on preorder and purchase, yeps? lol
hoping toys r us stays at 45 and i can pricematch, get 20 eventually and trade in for more. if that's the case that's 1 of 5 preorders. ill do batman for robin dlc and battlefield 3 for karkarland dlc, lol. now what else...

yeah and don't worry bout canceling preorder before release, if you do that you don't get the free dlc email ;p
