:bomb: The values in the Lists do not match the values in the Estimator. What's up with that?
I don't know. It seems the Lists are usually updated on Sundays, and the TIVs are adjusted to reflect the List in a few days. But as trades are made, the TIVs may change and the Lists are not updated frequently. Again, check the Estimator for latest TIV.

The promo says "Trade 2..." or "Trade 3..." but I only want to trade 1 game, will I still get $x amount?
You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. The promo is titled "Trade 2" etc to make the giftcards sound more lucrative.

The 2 games I want to trade are worth more than $60 combined according to the Estimator. Does that mean I will only get $60 for the 2 games?
No. You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. For example, if your total according to the Estimator is $70, you will get a $70 giftcard.

:bomb: If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as you ship it before the "Ship by" date "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value" (as of 5/2), and your games are received in the condition you declared.

How long do I have after I lock in a trade online before I have to ship it?
30 days. Has been recently changed to "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value".

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
According to BB: "We will not accept more than 3 games of the same title and platform from a customer (or address) in a year. Please do not submit more than the limit as excess submissions WILL NOT BE RETURNED." Example, you can trade 3 copies of Portal 2 for PS3 and 3 copies of Portal 2 for x360 without problems. Some people have been banned from trade-ins at BB due to the violation of this policy. If you plan on trading more than 3 copies of a game per platform by doing it through various stores, you do so at your own risk and discretion.

:bomb: Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
BB used to be strict about complete copies, but this has changed, and ppl are trading games in store without manuals or cover sleeve for full TIV. If you trade online it's sometimes YMMV. I would advise you to send in complete games (case, disc, manual) since some ppl are reporting only getting 50% of the locked TIV.

I see people talking about getting Amazon giftcards by trading at Best Buy. How are they doing that?
Some Best Buys sell Kindle giftcards which can be used on Amazon.com like regular Amazon giftcards. You will not get the Kindle card with your trade, but you can buy them with your BB giftcard.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
According to BB's own FAQ:
Q: Is trade-in limited to items I bought at Best Buy?
A: No.
I don't know why this happens, but apparently some stores do not have their system setup to take non-BB purchased items at this time. Check the link above regarding stores that do video games trade-ins first.

:applause::applause::applause: I've been saying this sorta stuff for a while now, but some of the people asking the questions will just keep asking rather than searching for the answers themselves. Although the search function could definitely use some tweaking, since I myself have had to ask questions already covered because the search brought back results for everything BUT my question.:roll:

Eventually someone relents and answers their question and then the cycle starts again.

The people asking questions rather than looking for the answers themselves thing is one of a number of trends on CAG that have either started or increased in the past couple of years that I just don't like. I've found myself ignoring larger numbers of people than I ever ignore on any other forum EVER in the last couple of years here on CAG.
 
Had a friend trade some of my multiple copy games in for me and they said the 50% bonus didn't exist. Had to pre-order something else for 40% instead.
 
I had some rewards $5 off coupons, but forgot to print them! gone now....anyone know a way to get 10% off or how to get some reward points?
I know a bunch of iphone games that you can play to get 250 points, but I have an andriod phone..thx

It looks like I'll be KEEPING Bulletstorm since I don't wanna pre-order something else AGAIN n have to go through the hassle of trying to cancel that shit. Dunno if you actually want GoW3 but there doing a 40% bonus when you pick up the game.
 
I got about $13 from the 10% boost on my trade yesterday, and considering I paid for the GCU membership with trade credit I will basically have it paid off on my next trade and the rest of the year will be profit. Can't complain about that.

Can anyone find a trade in value for Gunstringer online, or has anyone traded it in-store that knows? It doesn't appear to be on the site which is just a little odd. Can't imagine it is a very long game and if the trade-in price is descent it might be worth picking up playing and trading back in since I'd just lose a couple of bucks in GC money anyway.

Not really. I don't even have a 360 at this point. I just wanted to get the best deal possible for my trades I was doing, which is why I'm perturbed at myself for not bothering to remember that I was supposed to get out to trade in Bulletstorm today for the full 60% bonus for it.

Eh. It was only a $1.10 bump lost. Once I get it back I'll just take my time and finish the game after doing the update that I dreaded doing(200+mb's). Then I'll just trade it in using the 40% promo for pre-ordering something else. Hopefully they let me use my Uncharted 3 pre-order receipt to skirt around having to PO something else AGAIN. Otherwise I'll just sell it to the one local flea market guy for $15 cash.
 
Hey FYI they're tracking pre order cancels. I came in today and canceled 2 GoW3 pre-orders and then when I went to trade in my games the guy said not only I couldn't pre order gears again, but that I couldn't pre order anything. He knows me cause I'm in their often and I assured him that'd I'd actually pick up my pre order of the Metal Gear Solid HD collection so he let it slide. But he said they may have banned me had I not been warned by him (the trade in guy). So watch out how many pre orders you return.

Thanks for the heads up. This is really good to know. I've only had 1 cancelled preorder in the last few months. I'm just gonna keep my preorder email receipt and re-use it everytime I do a trade in from now on.

50% still works today. Just did it 1 hour ago. Got the 10% Unlocked bonus too. Just had to show the associate the receipt when they scanned my coupon from the @Gamer subscription. I didn't have any sticker and they just added the 10% at the trade in menu at the same time to get me my 60%.

bestbuy is crazy fail lately. the sales and programs and tivs are great, but the employees don't seem to know what's going on.

i keep trying to get into the gamers club unlocked program and NOONE has any idea what it is or what is going on or anything. I went on monday 9/12 and used my coupon to get it and they seemed like all was good. im tired and don't want to type my whole story, but alot of call 888 and go to customer service and so far nothing. ugh

How many pre-orders have you cancelled? I have cancelled 3 (one I did not want, one that was a duplicate, and one that I cancelled and just recently reordered) and I have not been given any issues.

These were the only ones I'd cancled, but I'd got the 50% bonus with both, and I cancled them both at the same time right before the trade in.

Up till now I've only done a total of THREE pre-orders(Uncharted 3, Gears 3, Catherine). Of those, I've cancelled ONE(Catherine, which was due to them not having the bonus items the website promised with pre-orders) and I will most likely keep the one for Uncharted 3, even if I never pick it up. I just look at the $5 deposit as the cost of getting the 30-50% bump that I would not have received otherwise.

For example, on this most recent stack of 7 games, I would have received only $80 for them without the Gears 3 50% bump stacking on top of the GCU 10%. Instead I received $120-ish in credit.

I will probably pick up Uncharted 3 eventually, but I'm in no hurry to do so at this point.

But thanks for the heads up. I guess this is another way(besides the 10 issues of @Gamer as opposed to 12 of Game Informer) that the Gamer's Club Unlocked and the BB trade program differs from Gamestop's PUR program.

The question is would their point-of-sale system actually have blocked you from placing another pre-order, or was this just an overly zealous employee that recognizes you from regular visits and might have told his co-workers to watch for you on subsequent visits. I'm guessing the latter. I'm assuming that you went to customer service to cancel the pre-orders, so how did the game trade-in guy know that you had canceled them? Did you also do the trade-ins at customer service? I know some Best Buys still do trades at the CS area, but most now have the kiosk in the games area. At least in my area, the workers in the games department would have no knowledge of what transpires as far as returns at customer service.

Yeah I try not to cancel and trade on the same day or at least not preorder the game I just cancelled. Thanks for the info.

It might be YMMV but I cancelled my NCAA 12 football preorder like 3 weeks after release and they gave me money back. My duplicate preorder was from a different store and they returned it also. They did point out it was not from their store and I just told them the guy preorded the wrong game (which was true, I asked for SR3 and he did Skyrim) and I never looked at the receipt until I got home.

i think his issue was that employees were noticing all of the returns. if keep bringing in games to trade in and subsequently cancel a preorder deposit, they know you're gaming the system (no pun intended). In his case, the gaming specialist warned him that he was about to report his account to be banned.
 
One thing I noticed with GS pre-orders when I used to do them was that they would give you back CASH(even if you used credit to pay the deposit) many times.:whistle2:s

I joked around with the employees a couple of times that I planned on converting all of my GS credit to cash by putting down $5 deposits on every game available and cancelling after release.:lol: They were not amused with that idea.;)

I cancled at CS them looked at tablets then went to the trade in kiosk.
It seemed like he could see my account history on the trade in screen at the trade in kiosk, but one way or another he knew that I'd just returned the 2 pre orders.
 
I've cancelled over 10 pre-orders (5 because they didn't associate my rz card when I did the buy 5, 5 because I cancelled them again to move them online, a couple others).

Normally I'm more than understanding of a company putting in policies to protect its business, but I think BB needs to find a level of comfort with pre-order cancellations - that's a way of life in the video game business. People shift their orders from place to place all the time depending on the deals.

So maybe I'll get banned myself, and that's cool. It's their prerogative. I just think it's a mistake.
 
What's lame is I paid for resistance 2 pre order, picked it up, and never received the pre order bonus. It also never got creditted to my RZ 5/$100 account tally.
 
The interesting thing is that the BB gaming staff suggest me return the pre order and then did another preorder again when I did the trade-in on Tuesday and asked if I can get the 50% bonus again if I trade a few games on Thursday.

I just cancelled my five preorders. I preordered five games back in August. But BB won't give me the 50% trade-in bonus in the week before the release. I also cancelled the instore preorder for Madden since they won't do the price match from TRU. But I did purchased the Madden game online.

That just happened to me tonight. I actually brought my original receipt and asked the clerk if he could just scan it and see if it would give me the extra 50% bonus for my trade-ins, but he said it wouldn't work. He then turned back to me and actually said, "Wait, why doesn't that work?" He tried doing it, just to see what would happen, but it didn't give me the bonus. He canceled the original order for me, and I just printed out another Gears of War pre-order.

I seem to find that most of the employees I've had to deal with are just as frustrated as us with the system, so I'd expect them to be giving feedback about it to their manager, and them to their higher ups. The guy ringing me up said it was definitely going to get simpler as it goes on, but for now he even agreed that it was annoying how complicated a simple transaction is to do.
 
What do you guys think of this? If we're pre-ordering something that's not on the 5 for 100 list, then we shouldn't use our Gamer Zone #, that way, if we cancel, they can't link us to it.

I canceled like 7 pre-orders the other day. Just decided that I wanted to go with kmart to pay less up front instead of getting the $100 at the end and hoping for price matches.

Guess i'm "banned from pre-orders"

paid the 15 bucks for the gamer reward thing today and traded in 6 games towards gears 3(which i will cancel)
got 32 bucks for portal 2, 9.60 for dead space and mass effect 1 and demon's souls, 32 for mario galaxy 2, 28.80 for donkey kong country returns for a total of 120. not bad for 3 of them being really old games.
I asked the guy how often they have those 50% towards new games and he said they will likely do for every major release. I use to sell my old games on amazon, but if these kind of deals continue best buy will be my new place to flip my old games.

The problem there is having to pre-order the game when you trade games in to get the bonus. You wouldn't get the extra 10% if you didn't use your account.

Best Buy needs to clarify a few things and make things easier, namely how you could get banned. It seems YMMV on almost everything right now. It's crazy that you might get banned for trading in more than three of one game in a year, even though their system allows it and there's no way to track what you've traded online.

The whole thing is up to their discretion. They can ban you for any reason, but I think they keep it vague to cover their butt really. It helps keep people in line because they don't know how much they can get away with.

Speaking of preorders, why don't they just show what you preordered on the RZ website? Would make it easier to keep up with.
 
my problem is that they don't know what they are doing. i went in the other day because they didn't give me the 10%(after he quoted me price with 10%, lies? computer error?) and i was complaining i preordered and picked up madden 12 and resistance 3 and never got the codes emailed to me. his response was that i should cancel all games at bestbuy if i really want the preorder dlc. i asked what about batman robin dlc and he was like, idk.

i called 888bestbuy and they eventually issued me $15 rz certs because i didnt get the 10% even tho i was unlocked and they told me i would get it. but then after an hour on the phone they still didnt know how to give me unlocked status even tho i was there on 9/12. oh well. they said to go in store. and i bet when i go instore. they will tell me to call 888. ugh. just turning into a headache.
 
You guys dealing with Best Buy this much, I feel sorry for you. The one Game trade Gears pre order deal was so painful for me I will do anything to avoid having to deal with incompetent, rude and unpleasent managers at Best Buy. I really don't care if I save more money at this point, not worth it.

That would make too much sense :) Actually at one point I think it did. I recall seeing a line item on my Rewards Zone page about the games I did the 5 for $100 pre-order for. It seems to have disappeared now though.

That's why I always do those surveys on the bottom of the receipts and I ask for names when I get pissy employees dealing with me. Those surveys you can fill out DO get the attention of management. Albeit if it's a manager giving you a hassle, then you can always go over their heads.;)

Don't let the local customer service give you the run around. I had the same issue on Tuesday as they rung up the coupon with nothing else. I told them on Friday that I would not leave until they rang up the locked SKU and then the coupon SKU. I have listed them below for your reference:

All they did was scan the coupon for me and nothing else...

3-4 days ago when I took the coupon in to the store, I told the cashier he probably needs to scan the GC Unlocked bar code (in the small brochure saying it was $14.99) but he kept insisting all you have to do is scan the coupon.

I tried to trade in games yesterday and I didn't get my 10% trade in bonus b/c the system said "not found" when the cashier entered my RZ number.

Good thing I forced him to let me keep my coupon in case it didn't work. Gonna go in there and get them to do it right this time.
 
Ok guys I need your help to get the most money since I don't know how their system works.

I want to trade in 4 games
Portal 2: $20
L.A. Noire: $17
Fable 3: $14
Shift 2: $14

Should I trade in the last three games for 30% plus the 10% for being a member and trade in Portal for 40% when I preorder plus the 10%.

Or can I place all trade ins at once with the 40% plus the 10%? Or is the 40% only valid for 1?

Can I stack?

And what games should I put in what deal to get the most? (Ex. Noire, Portal, Shift with the 30% and Fable with the 40%.)
 
Trade them all in with the 40% bonus plus the 10% if you get the gamers club unlocked. You only need $5 down to preorder a game. Also read the OP.

If you're going to pre-order do the 40% or 50% for Gears if it's still active.
Otherwise do the 30%.

Then you add the 10% if you're unlocked.

The deal you pick applies to every game that you trade in, not just one or the 3 needed for the 30% requirement.

So if those trade in values are accurate you're looking at a minimum of $91 dollars. (That's all added together + 30% + 10%)

The 40% preorder bonus is applied to all games traded in, not just one.
In your case:
65(base) + 6.50(10%) + 26(40%) = 97.50

Then subtract $5 for preordering which you can cancel at any time.
 
Thanks for the quick replies guys. I'm going to preorder a game and use that deal. I plan on upgrading the gamer card tuesday. Will I have to activate it before using it or they'll use it right away?

That's just the same as the 40% for pre-order bonus.

It's a little different since Gears of War 3 is going to be released next Tuesday.

Isn't the 50% still live? The website still shows it.
