Best Buy YMMV Thread

mikeshinobi

CAGiversary!
Can we have a thread where we share deals we find at our local Best Buys? Of course they're always YMMV but it would give us ideas of what to look out for.

I have two local best buys and each of them had different deals:

Best Buy #1:

  • Dragon Quest Builders 2 (NSW): $15.99
Best Buy #2:

  • Disgaea 4 (NSW): $15.99
  • Dead Cells (NSW): $10.99
  • Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology (3DS): $12.99 (didn't get this, very sad)
  • Some other 3DS title I was extremely sad I missed out on (3DS): $10.99
There were some others but these were the ones that stood out the most that I can remember.

Also for anyone who doesn't know, if your Best Buy has a price placard out for a game but they're sold out, you can ask an employee to order it for you from their website and they will match their in-store price! Of course they have to have stock on the website though.

Best Buy is doing buy 1 get 50% off second title

I snagged:
Cocoon
Balatro (honestly, wanted this for the steam deck, but worried screen size might be an issue...can test on the portal I guess)

Notable ones (to me):
Metaphor Refantzio (if you liked Persona 5, you will love this one and I appreciate the story, only about 25 hours in)
FF Rebirth (enjoyed, but if you didn't play part 1, can't see you opting for part 2)
System Shock (on the fence with this game, never played, but kind of want to..haven't pulled trigger)
Avatar Frontiers of Pandora (I enjoyed this game, really helpful once get mount and fast travel)
Undisputed (have not had an intrest in boxing since Mike Tyson's Punchout lol)
Space Marines 2 (honestly, got bored with this...it's a regular FPS and nothing feels like you can't just walk through all of it blindly)

Where are you seeing the B1g1 50% off? I don’t see it on their website anywhere.

Anyone know what happens when you have a promo in your account “spend 100 get $10 certificate”. If you do that, use the certificate on a different item , but later want to return the initial item(whose purchase gave you the feet to begin with) ?

I had this exact scenario over the summer and nothing happened. I was kinda afraid that they would take the promo credit amount from the return but they didn't.

That's what I wanna know except for cash back. Let's say u got a cash back for buying something and u want to return the item, would they take away the cash back that u already deposited into ur account

I don’t know current policy, but when they had reward points for certs, you could redeem the points then return something and have a negative point balance.

So the current game sale they’ve got going is almost certainly going to be the extent of their BF sales with the exception of the already announced Nintendo games and probably a few Sony first party discounts right? I’d bet money on it anyway.

they usually have a week long black friday sale, with early access for the paid membership/free membership then for everyone, that includes more deals.

Doubtful. More probably added every Sat until TG/BF

I imagine Best Buy has additional titles being added, as will other retailers like Target and Walmart.
You are probably right that the selection is much more narrow/small given there just aren't as many discounts on physical games anymore, and these titles don't draw foot traffic to stores like they used to.

Found out a few weeks back that a store had actually closed nearby, and it wasn't in a bad area at all; quite the opposite. Only reason I found it interesting is I can't even recall ever seeing a BB close down wherever I've lived, even in more rundown areas. I'm wondering what the reason was now, because I don't think they're in trouble yet but I do think they will be facing problems to solve soon.

One store near me in a neighboring town was closed some months ago earlier this year. I believe the intent was to convert it to some kind of "outlet" store (whatever that means) but as far as I am aware it still hasn't re-opened as of yet. The Best Buy sign is still there and there's no signage to indicate that the location is up for lease or whatever so it seems like they still have plans for it. Not sure what the deal is though.

Maybe the rent was too darn high.

Fingers crossed for $30 Silent Hill 3, $20 Stellar Blade, and $20 Dragon's Dogma 2
I'd like to be proven wrong, but I don't think any of these are even remotely possible. May be $50 for Silent Hill (assume you mean 2 remake) and $40 for Stellar Blade and DD2.

Just look at how long it's taken RE4make to get to $20. Game came out March 2023 and only recently this fall could be found on sale for $20.

I have one store closed near me, but that store was only 4.4 miles from another Best Buy so they were very close together.

One of the Best Buy stores near me became a Best Buy Outlet. It’s basically an appliance warehouse now, nothing but rows of dryers and fridges.

Often the open box laptops and handheld devices I'm interested are at the "local" outlet best buy, which is probably an hour away with traffic. Here's hoping you get some of these items instead of just dented dishwashers.

Local BB closed, just to open on the same street less than a minute walk away. Not sure why, maybe to be next to other businesses as it was a standalone store.

Been to the outlet BB but seemed to be better for appliances and TVs. It's too far away to be worth return trips.

Huh, yeah it definitely didn't change locations for mine or convert to one of those outlets I have seen here and there. It actually leaves a pretty sizable gap in coverage for the area too, so it's very strange.
