Best Completed TV Series

CAGiversary!

For the past two weeks I have been watching Arrested Development. I decided to give it a shot after hearing that it was really good. Anyway after watching all 53 episodes, I have got to say it is probably one of the best shows I have ever watched. No other comedy has caused me to actually laugh out loud so often. It is a shame that it was canceled since so few people watched it.

There are a few shows that I watch on TV (Lost, Heroes, The Office, South Park) but episodes are always so few and far between. I enjoy being able to watch when I want and as much as I want. When watching a completed series (like Arrested Development) I am not limited by this.

Anyway, I'm kind of looking for something else to watch now and am hoping to get the recommendations of some of my fellow CAGs who seem to usually have similar tastes to my own. So does anybody know of any good Cult Classic shows or anything like that? Thanks

Not sure about completed, but The Wire is the best show on TV. There are 4 completed seasons out already and the final season is this year. It gets very little attention for such a quality show.

Heat Vision and Jack

Stars: Jack Black, Owen wilson as a talking motorcycle, and Ron Silver as himself. It's also Written by Ben Stiller. There's an interesting story behind its creation, if anyone wants to know it.

Deadwood, Carnivale, and Rome. I would also put in a vote for Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Deadwood was just canceled by HBO for God knows what reason. Supposedly they are trying to close the series with two, two hour "episodes."

I will do something different, best complete series in one DVD boxset...

Sports Night
Firefly
Odyssey 5

The best DVD sets to this day are Futurama, wonderful sets.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned The X-Files yet. I wasn't really a fan of the last two seasons, but the show had some GREAT moments, especially around seasons 3-5.

And as far as cult classics go, Firefly. Amazing following since cancellation.

Married with Children and Fresh Prince are classics.
I remember lots of good family sitcoms that used to come on at night like Family Matters and Perfect Strangers.
She Spies was a fun guilty pleasure.

Nip/Tuck is pretty solid, though it's not completed. However, there's no new episodes until October or so, which gives you ample time to catch up on the first three seasons.

No one mentioned Greg The Bunny yet? It's like $14 at Target for the entire show (it lasted one season, reportedly because Seth Green was doing movies and Family Guy full time), and features a puppet bunny. Can't go wrong.

Sliders is pretty good too, as long as you stick to the first two seasons. Everything after is pretty weak.

wasn't hbo's first choice..the creator/producter/writter of the show, came up with a new show. HBO told him that they will have only 1 of them at a time on tv, he decided to go with the other one. As for the 2 x 2 hours shows, that was the original plan, but it looks like the creator has no interest in doing it, and all the actors/actresses are working elsewhere, it seems unlikely that it will happen:roll:

Carnivale, get that, you will be amazed at it!The only thing is that it only lasted 2 seasons, and the end leaves u wanting more, such great development of characters and the events that conclude it, are a classic in tv series.Highly recommended !

Futurama! It's chock full of goodness.

If you know a bit more than the average Joe in mathematics, science, or computer science, you'll find some witty puns on top of the already-great writing.
Oz. That was by far my favorite HBO Original show.
I'll second that... assuming the occasional wang doesn't scare you off. I wish they'd make a new Oz, in a women's prison, the only obstacle is that would pretty much be viewed as porn.

In the first few posts, a lot of people don't understand the concept of "Completed".

Rescue Me is great, but it won't be over for a while. Curb Your Enthusiasm had better days, and will hopefully get better, as it's not over. Scrubs is mid-season right now.

As for completed shows, I'd rank my favorite (recent) shows as Arrested Development, Dead Like Me, and Wonderfalls. AD ranks up there as one of my all-time favorite shows - I really can't get enough of it.

Wonderfalls, Freaks and Geeks, Futurama, Da Ali G Show, Firefly, Buffy, and The Twilight Zone. There is a little bit of everything in that list.

Wow, thanks everybody for all the replies. I see a lot of things I want to watch.

-I have been watching scrubs.
-Carnivale looks really interesting. The premise seems kind of like the book American Gods, one of my favorites.
-I've heard a lot about Alias but never actually watched it, so I might give that a try.
-Never seen the X-Files either so I probably should.
-I liked the movie Serenity so I'll try Firefly.
-Odyssey 5 looks like an interesting SCIFI show.
-What's this Greg The Bunny? Ive never hear of it. Is it any good?
-I've watched all of Futurama and it's one of my favorites.

Thanks again for all the responses. Any other ideas?

hey, relax tv is supposed to be fun. Plus we're turning OP on to other shows that he can watch, are near the end of their run.

for example I suggest The Sopranos after the 8 upcoming episodes air over the next few months its done forever.

-Second Wonderfalls
-Dead Like Me
-I liked Tru Calling - still need to see the second season that made its way out(i.e. 5 episodes)

Dead Like Me is great too, have watched through the whole show 2 times now since I got it a few months ago.

Deadwood was canceled because the cost of the protect was massive.

In a January 13, 2007 interview, David Milch stated that he still intends to finish the 2 films, if possible.

Clone High. A friend introduced it to me a few weeks ago, and I plowed through the entire show (1 season) in a day... it's an obscure premise (historical figures are cloned and now go through adolescence together in High School), but there are just moments where you just can't help but laugh... it's like Drawn Together meets The Wonder Years meets Daria.... or something like that. In any case, good show... well worth it to pick up and give a shot.
Buffy
Angel
Add in Sports Night, Alias, Dark Angel, Playmakers, and Tilt as well.

Also, it wasn't released in full season DVD's, but if you have digital cable/satellite and get ESPN Classic, check out some episodes of Arli$$.

I have to reccomend Six Feet Under. It's not everybody's cup of tea, but the acting is amazing. Homicide: Life on the Streets is also amazing. It's probably the best police drama of the 1990's. I'll second the reccomendations of OZ, X-files, Arrested Development, Carnivale, Deadwood, and Dead Like Me among others.

I must agree with Seinfeld and Oz, I always watched Oz, always preferred it over the Sopranos or anything else on tv at the time. I also highly recommend Homicide, excellent and under appreciated show.

I could've sworn I read that the creator wanted to do them to wrap up the show. I know most of the actors were tied up in something but I thought they were going to try and do it not that it was totally dead. It sucks if it doesn't happen though because the series was so good it needs an end.
Greg the Bunny is a sitcom that aired on the American television network Fox in 2002. It starred Seth Green and a hand puppet named Greg the Bunny, originally invented by the team of Sean Baker, Spencer Chinoy and Dan Milano. Milano and Chinoy wrote and co-produced the Fox show. In the show, Greg was the co-star of a children's television show called Sweetknuckle Junction (a parody of Sesame Street). Like The Muppet Show, Greg the Bunny treated puppets as though they were real creatures within the reality of the show, although in this show, they were treated as a racial minority, sometimes struggling against second-class citizenship. The show was spun off from The Greg the Bunny Show a series of short segments that used to air on the Independent Film Channel, which were based on the cable access show called "Junktape".
It starred Seth Green, Eugene Levy, and Sarah Silverman. It also was one of the shows Fox ran in place of Family Guy when Family Guy was cancelled in '02, and was then cancelled itself to bring back Family Guy.

agreed 100%

i just finished s1, starting s2 today

i wish bender and fry were real

op: i would also suggest News Radio and as others have mentioned, The Wire.

Greg The Bunny is awesome, but if you've never seen it - maybe rent first to try it out.

It's an acquired taste, imo.
