Big Daddy Cool's wrestling topic

Damn. I enjoyed him as 'Kona' Crush and in Kronik. Hopefully his passing doesn't re-ignite the media frenzy surrounding wrestling, as there's a good chance it was steroid-related.

If it's roid related, you know the news media will jump on it and blame WWE somehow. Even though he hasn't worked for them for 6 years.

how would that diminish the fact that he used steroids??

It wouldn't. I'm just saying like Jay was saying that if the death was somehow roid related, the news media will probably jump on it and place the blame on someone.

IIRC, Adams was fired from WWE (during his DOA/NOD days?) for having steroids mailed to his house while he was under FBI surveillance. He was fired for steroids before monitoring for steroids was even cool.

I'd say it's sad, but at this point, whatever. No amount of dead wrestlers or congressional investigations is going to change the lack of concern for WWE or TNA for their talent, during and after their career tenures. I'm hardened to any more wrestler deaths anymore.

What was Adams' last involvement in wrestling? I remember the Kronik debacle in the WWF (ever see their match against Undertaker/Kane at Unforgiven? Wow. No wonder they were fired the next day!), but don't recall seeing Adams (or Clarke) after that.

They were both asked to report to OVW I think. Adams said "no way" Clarke eventually reported to Hartland before being released. Adams tried to train as Boxer got knocked the fuck out. He and clarke were both injured on a show in Japan and neither wrestle anymore. They would still do signings as Kronik from time to time as I recall.

He last worked some WWA and AJPW shows while teaming with Clarke, and he wasn't only busted for steroids, but a large amount of weapons, which the media could also latch onto as proof of wrestlers having violent pasts.

Since I was going to HWA shows weekly at that time, I did see Adams once or twice there (and even managed a dirty look when he heard me yell "look where you end up when you don't sell!" - I was a shit-ass lil' smark back then). Clarke never appeared in HWA.

The WWF Wrestlefest arcade game now contains 5 dead wrestlers.

Hulk Hogan
Ultimate Warrior
Mr. Perfect
Earthquake
Ted DiBiase
Jake "The Snake" Roberts
Big Boss Man
Sgt. Slaughter
Smash (Demolition)
Crush (Demolition)
Hawk (Legion of Doom)
Animal (Legion of Doom)

If one more dies, then half of the roster will be dead. This game, by the way, was released in 1991.

Well, that sucks. I swear I had a weird feeling before I opened the wrestling topic, that there'd be bad news inside. Sure enough, another wrestling-related passing. These are becoming far too common.

I don't like tacking on tributes to topics already in progress. So, we'll either wait until this finishes and then do a tribute topic or temporarily lock this and then do the tribute topic and come back to this.

I'd just assume finish this as we're already on page 8 of 10 (using the 50 post per page format).

That game was awesome, I remember being so stoked back in the day when Raine could finally emulate Wrestlefest. Jake Roberts and Mr. Perfect were my team.

From WWE.com:

Adams wrestled his last match in January 2003, suffering a spinal injury that forced him into retirement.

I guess I had them backwards. My bad!

From TMZ.com:
The death of former wrestling star Crush has officially been declared an "unexplained incident."

In the incident report filed by the Tampa Police Dept. and obtained by TMZ, former wrestling superstar Brian Adams aka Crush "was found by his wife unconscious in bed not breathing."

According to the cops, Adam's wife dialed 911, but emergency teams could not revive him when they arrived shortly thereafter. Cops also note in their report that "there were no visible signs of injuries."

An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.

Brian Adams' death just got covered on Nancy Grace - it looks like the media coverage of wrestling is back, and I'd expect it to continue if/when they found out about his steroid and weapon-filled past.

They're covering it again, with Eben Brown talking about his history with Demolition, stating that his death was a surprise. The stand-in host asks if there were other calls to the house, which isn't know, Brown talks about his drug and weapons charge in '94, and stated that his stun gun charge was dropped. According to Eben, Adams was holding steroids and a stun gun, and he was arrested, but isn't sure if he served jail time, and isn't sure what charge was dropped. "Dave Metzler" is on talking about why wrestlers go to Florida, citing the lack of sales tax as a major reason, and stating that some were scared off due to hurricanes, and the Tampa airport is convenient to fly out of. The autopsy will be done tomorrow.

It is expected that they'll look for steroids and drugs in his blood, body, and hair during it. Marc Mero is on, and is asked what kind of person he was - he was a good person who loved practical jokes, and they were in talks to do something business-related a couple of weeks ago. Adams is #27 on Mero's list of people who have died that he's wrestled, and he states that people in war in Iraq don't even know 30 people who have died. He states that there is some industry responsibility, as Benoit was able to get 10 months of steroids and still pass WWE's test. Mero doesn't want to state what he thinks happened to Adams, but implies that it's due to steroids, then shills his program and its website.

Dave's asked if WWE will do anything for Adams, and he says that at most, they'll probably just do a picture at the beginning of the show, but isn't sure. Mero says that Vince just views wrestling as entertainment, and says that he looks forward to talking in front of Congress, and that wrestling needs to be regulated since wrestling hasn't policed itself very well. He says that steroids aren't used backstage, and that there's a code of silence about it. Mero talks about mark doctors, and says that there are probably hundreds of them, and he saw docs just write prescriptions out for guys in the back as if they were a joke. The host talks about wrestlers doing 200 days, and Mero says that he did 250 dates a year, and once again talks about guys working the day after wrestling Super Bowl. He says that wrestling is physically and mentally taxing, and that steroids are used to help guys recover quickly, since guys can't take time off to heal from surgeries. Mero's asked about wrestlers being given psychological help, and he says he isn't sure, but there is a wellness program. A psychologist is on stating that wrestlers are being abused by the system, as the system is making money, while the wrestlers are dying.

There sure is one hell of a roster in the afterlife, huh?

I don't know about you guys, but I just don't have much energy to write the same thing over and over about all these wrestling personlaites who are dying young. These deaths are beyond absurd.
*sigh*

He rocked in Rage in the Cage. I still have that game. I love that game.
As do I - It was the main reason why I bought the Sega CD. I loved the pre-match promos and finisher videos in that game.

HHH HAS to come back as a face since people will cheer him no matter what - he'll be a heel in due time. Boring Raw so far, although I dug the standing rolling fireman's carry finishing the match.
Santino is a fantastic heel.
Yeah... He went from worst face ever to a very good heel.

Also, I wanted to say- Sporadic, you look completely different from what I expected.

Yeah, I'm hoboing it up on my time off.

Always wanted long hair growing up, so I decided to grow it out. Was kind of forced to grow out the beard once the hair got to a certain length. Can't grow one worth a damn but eh, you only live once and it's easier than going to the barber.
A billion Orton promos tonight and he couldn't even get a win tonight? Gimme a fucking break.
Seriously... makes no sense at all. I loved how the crowd just shit on Cena tonight. And I hope they shit on HHH next time he comes to the Garden too, for no showing tonight. What's the point? I'm not buying Summerslam just to see HHH's dumbass comeback and bury Booker T. I liked how Booker dropped his accent repeatedly tonight when Booker was getting enraged, hopefully his character continues to do that and it wasn't unintentional.

Anyway, on the whole not a terrible Raw, but for an MSG Raw, that was pathetic.

Here's a non-spoiler match listing for SNME:

Matt Hardy vs Evander Holyfield in a boxing match... I wish I was making this up
Finlay & Khali vs Batista & Kane
Carlito vs Cena... I wish I was making this up too
Big Vis & John Morrison vs CM Punk & Boogeyman... another WTF? match
Vince segment with Coach about who the child is. I'll save you all the time, they don't reveal anything yet of course, because this show is taped, and it's WWE.

I'm glad you're not making Hardy-Holyfield up, because that sounds AWESOME, especially with Buffer doing intros. Hopefully he doesn't screw up MVP's name.

that holyfield thing was awesome.. main event ruled.. especially the ending

i had fun even though raw itself was kinda blah... i got tired of seeing cena so many fucking times

bread's done
