Big games in 2009 that might suck (but you don't want them to)

I have been looking forward to RE5 ever since I finished up RE4 several years ago. In the back of my head I can't stop thinking that maybe they are going to screw it up. The videos have been pretty enough but adding the co-op mode and not evolving the controls has me a bit worried. I also don't like how they seem to have caved to the "racist" claims a few nutjobs were making when the game was first unveiled. Anyone else feel this way about games coming out soon that you know you will buy but are afraid they might not be any good?

SF4 sort of falls into this category because 95% of the fun will be playing against other people online and I'm just not convinced they can get it working 100% lag free.

Bionic Commando. I have high hopes as the original was one of my fave NES games and I really dug the remake on XBLA.

No, and No.

You dont even know a quarter of the shit thats gonna make it out this year.

RE5 and SF4 will be awesome regardless.
I am so sick of hearing the control bullshit spewed out about RE5.
Its Resident Evil, its the way the game plays. RE4 just evolved tank controls to the next level. Go back and play it again. Not being able to move and shoot is what makes RE, RE. If it didnt it would be another generic piece of shit shooter, ala Army of Two or Gears of War.

Online competition is fun with friends, but to take it to the next level you need to play it with people in real life. Online will always have lag, ALWAYS.

I worried about RE5 with co-op mode. I know creepiness is no longer a major point in the RE series but it is still critical to "experience" the atmosphere of the game. Co-op kind of downgrades that experience. If you are going to talk about family, children and sports event while shooting zombies with your partner, the game is going to suck for sure.

Dont talk. Solution fixed.

100% lag free is sort of an unreasonable expectation. It takes time for data to be sent from point A to point B under any circumstances. Find people locally to play. Get involved in the community.

I find the concept of forced co-op in RE5 through 95% of the game is fail, though the complaint is moot since I wont be playing it.

Not being able to move and shoot is a mere shadow of classical survival horror. RE4 and 5 are in no way in that category. Every iteration moves closer to pure shooter.

You're not even supposed to be fighting! You should dread fighting and avoid it at every opportunity. You shouldnt have the means to, both in how the game handles and in-game supplies.

I'm not really concerned about RE5. I think some people are just setting themselves up for disappointment because the game will not be a leap like RE4.
For me I'm scared of Alan Wake. First off will it actually be out this year? I believe in Remedy cause the first 2 Max Payne titles were ridiculously polished but something about the development of this game doesn't feel quite right.

I liked RE4 ok, but don't plan on buying RE5. Maybe my friend (and soon to be roommate) will pick it up since he likes the series more.

I've never been into survival horror so the tank controls and not being able to move and shoot just lessen the enjoyment a lot for me. I get why they do it, just not my cup of tea.

I guess one I'd list is FEAR 2. The first one was great on PC, but the 360 port wasn't very good. I hope that 1) it's a good game and 2) that the console versions are well done as my PC ran the first crappy and I hate playing games on the PC in general.

I'm so scared that Heavy Rain will suck, but I know it won't. I love QTE's, though.

I'm afraid that InFamous will suck. I'm afraid it will be extremely simplistic and rely too heavy on lightning to make it innovative, in the same way that Fracture banked on the raising/lowering the environment. I am scared it'll be the same old sandbox game with lightning as a gimmick.. but I pray it'll turn out like Crackdown, where it doesn't necessarily force you to do things a specific way.

My concerns are

Prinny game - hopefully it will be better than the preview
Star Ocean 4 - Star Ocean 2 was great but Tri Ace made a lot of average games since their PSOne days.

I had some concern about RE5 but after the demo there is no concern.

One game already came out in 2009 that wasn't as good as I had hoped:

Lord of the Rings: Conquest

Not a bad game by any means, but I was hoping that it would be amazing. It went from a possible "day one" purchase to a "wait until speedy posts a good deal on it" purchase.

Star Ocean 4, SO3 had great combat but the story was terrible.

Also Star Craft 2, Blizzard almost never messes anything up but the whole it's really 3 games bit has me worried.

I'm quietly hoping that a few games will be good enough to compel me to dust off my wii.
I'm rooting for The Conduit in particular.

wow...RE5 is just a copy and paste of RE4 but in HD and with black people...RE5 is so over hyped

So what if RE5 controls like RE4?
If it ain't broke then don't fix it.

SF4 is gonna be great. Just look at the videos online and impressions from people, it will be tourney material for years to come. It will be way better then Spew Calibur 4, which even though I got 1000/1000 on it wasn't the time consumer that Soul Calibur 2 was for me. That was the best SC.

I have this wierd feeling that Alan Wake is going to suck, that is if it gets released this year.

Prototype. I Want it to be good/awesome simply because I loved Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, but all the delays and lack of new information aren't helping it's cause.

Wolverine. An M rated Wolverine game sounds awesome, but I can really only see the action being mediocre though I'm hope I'm proven wrong (lack of QTE gives it a glimmer of hope).

Brutal Legend. I'll still buy it, but alot of it seems more so for just the atmosphere and writing as opposed to gameplay.

re5 and god of war 3. more worried abut gow3 not living up to the standards of the previous 2 and just being a prettier version of the sos.

I'm really looking forward to Deadly Creatures

but as all new IPs I do have my doubts but let's keep out fingers crossed :]

There are really only 2 games heavily on my radar for 2009 so far, and both have the chance of sucking like Monica in a humidor.

Brutal Legend: Admittedly, what first drove me to this game was the thought that since it was Activision published, they were thinking of including Guitar Hero controller controls. Since it's now being published by EA, I still hold out hope. My guess though, is this is going to end up a competent, but ultimately soulless game, along the lines of Ghost Rider for the PS2.

Same could be said about Ghostbusters. While it has a great subject matter to draw from. My feelings are the game is going to end up *competent*, but now outstanding. I think it's gonna end up closer to "Gears Lite": something along the lines of Dark Sector.

Mafia II
The Godfather II
Aliens: Colonial Marines
Afro (have high hopes for this game)

Oh, you said "big" games. Well, in that case:

Brutal Legend
Ghostbusters

Unfortunately, I've dismissed my hopes for Afro Samurai. If you've checked out the gameplay vids, it looks like a glitchy mess with poor hit detection. I like Afro Samurai, but the game looks like crap...

.

I'm kinda excited for "Ride to Hell", but it will probably be bad.

Also, "This is Vegas". Is that even still coming out? I think it's a Midway game...

UFC 2009 - I desperately want this to be good, but no MMA game has really gotten the balance between realism and fun right. At the very least I hope the load times are blazing fast so that if/when you do get knocked out 10 seconds in you don't spend the next minute looking at load screens (like every other MMA game ever).

Why do you feel the need to be a dick? These people that you've insulted were just looking for help, and all you do is shit on them (not to mention they've all been here longer than you)? Who the hell do you think you are? Your statement about SFIV and RE5 was so false that even your pseudo attempt at helping them was shit XD . God.....the nerve of people on these forums.

Anyways, the games I want to be good but might suck are Aliens: Colonial Marines, Afro Samurai, and Ghostbusters (These are all games that Ive wanted but never really looked into)

I'm on the fence about RE5. The videos I've seen just don't look any fun, and they definitely took any horror that was left in the game out (I did find RE4 to be scary at points, I jumped quite a few times, so I don't care what anyone says about that, it still had horror in it - for me, atleast).

Not that I'm discounting it completely, but it went from looking (from the first trailer) like the game we've been wanting for years, to now the game that.. well, we kind of want? I think it just seems to have taken a dip in all directions, even graphics (I do love co-op as-well, and welcome it.. but it seems like it definitely will take away from this game).

So, here's to hoping I'm wrong.

I also agree with Ziv on B.C., I love the NES game, I love the re-make, and I want to love the new game, but I'm not sure if it will live upto the other two.

Alpha Protocol
Batman: AA
Wolverine
THQ's UFC game
Ghostbusters
Star Ocean IV
Bionic Commando
Infamous
MLB Front Office Manager
Heavy Rain
Alan Wake
This is Vegas (if it comes out)

I'm worried about this too, but I'm remaining hopeful. Basically, Capcom's been showing us the same thing and the same areas over and over (through trailers/demos), but some recent screenshots opened up new possibilities (ie. tribal village, swamp).

Resident Evil 4 was scary because it wasn't constant action. There were moments of downtime where you explored and didn't know what you'd encounter next. In Resident Evil 5, all we've seen is guns blazing action. I think that Capcom's just omitted those parts of RE5 for press materials/demos because they're admittedly less interesting to show off. The tribal village has a lot of potential... and the alligators really look like they'll provide some intense moments.

I'm worried that it'll lack atmosphere and a sense of claustrophobia that RE4 had. I have a lot of faith in Capcom, though. I'm remaining optimistic.

Ride to Hell's latest developer walkthrough on GameTrailers was repulsive.

I could be wrong but I seem to recall hearing that it was canceled.

How is he being a dick? He offered a real solution to a something that someone thought would be a problem. He didn't shit on them at all, and I don't think how long someone has been on CAG should really matter when talking about video games. And, what about his statement is false? You seem to be attacking someone for no reason. By the way, he's been here longer than you. Just thought I'd let you know that.

There aren't all that many 2009 games that interest me at the moment.
Killzone 2.
Get a 1080p TV, dummy. That's the solution to all of your PS3 problems/doubts.

There was just an article in the new GI (I think) saying that This Is Vegas is still on track even though Midway was sold. It's due out this summer.

I feel it's up to the man himself if he decides to respond, and not random CAGS I never heard of do it for him. That said, I respect your opinion and hope we can be good friends in the future Naes :)

i think killzone will be good, but there is a chance it will flop. bionic commando will probably flop, dreadlocks are just lame. uncharted looks like it will kick ass. ah man, i really want alien: colonial marines to be awesome, the co-op looks like it could have major promise. SFIV will be awesome no doubt. The game that i am most looking forward to is White knight chronicles, it will probably suck but i really hope it doesn't:bouncy:.

I like how with White Knight Chronicles, they totally pulled a "Killzone 2" with the first trailer, but no one mentioned anything because it's slipped under the radar. Take a look at the very first trailer of White Knight Chronicles and look at the latest one. The latest one will look like ass by comparison.

The first trailer got me all hyped until I found out it was fake gameplay. Developers need to stop doing that.
