Thought this was worthy of a new thread. Its back! And with a vengeance. As of this writing its at [see title]. Link

And for those that dont know, the amount of uses for this promotion seems to be doubling at a steady rate, now at 40 uses per account, and the maximum amount you can get back PER A SINGLE TRANSACTION was reduced from $250 to $200. The total culmulative cashback allowance is capped at $2,500.00 per calendar year.

How this works:

If you dont already know about this, its a very simple promotion offered by Microsoft in order to promote usage of their search engine live.com. All you have to do is go to www.live.com and search for something common, like "Wii" as in nintendo wii. In the Sponsored sites at the top you will see a link to Wii's on ebay with a small logo next to it that says Live Search Cash Back and below that "You may get xx% off paypal eligible". When you click on the cash back logo it takes you to ebay and BIN (Buy It Now) auctions for Wiis. From there you simply use the ebay search function to find the BIN auction for the item you desire and purchase it. When you click the BIN button prior to clicking on Commit to buy you should see a message below with the Cash Back you are eligible to recieve. Once you buy the auction pay for it with paypal and give it an hour. Eventually you'll get a message in your ebay account saying "You've earned cashback" simply click on it and follow the instructions. If you dont have one you'll be asked to create a live account. I believe most people will already have an existing live acct due to their Xbox, MSN, or Hotmail associations so feel free to use that if you like. This is quick, and thus far i havent gotten any spam due to it, nor have i read of anyone getting any spam. And thats it, 60 + 15 days later [they allow a buffer period incase you return what you bought] you can redeem the money.

So to summarize

1. use live.com search engine to find any product on ebay. Any keyword is as good as another, hence i used "wii" as an example.

2. Once activating the link use ebay.com to browse for the Buy It Now auction you desire and purchase and pay with paypal. Wait until you get a message from ebay and get your cash back with your live account. This can take a few hours.

3. ~75 days later its in your pocket. [60 days before you can redeem and then an additional 2 weeks before it actually transfers into your paypal account]

Again this is just a promotion by MS to promote use of their search engine, theres no catch. You dont have to promise your first born nor random legs or limbs. Its as simple as it sounds.

Some things to note

-This promotion is limited to only US residents.

-You must pay with paypal and it must be a BIN auction.

-It takes about 75 days to recieve the actual money which will be in the form of a FEE FREE deposit into your paypal account. From there you can spend it or transfer it into your checking or simply request a check.

-If you return the item you purchased and used the promotion on you LOSE the refund.

-This is only valid for Ebay user/store auctions on Ebay.com. No live auction or ebay motors etc.. Though i think you can get away with buying international auctions you're watching on ebay.com. I also noticed that this works if you're offered a "Second chance" on an item you bid on since it turns the auction into a BIN.

-You may only use this a maximum of 40 times per ebay account per person. A few people are reporting success using different ebay accounts with the same cashback account in order to achieve more than 20 uses. YMMV.

-Maximum of $200 back PER AUCTION [$2,500 Cap per account] and the percent savings does vary and can change without notice.

Rest of the terms are here:
http://pages.ebay.com/cashbackoffer/terms.html

I recommend at least skimming them. Enjoy.

Couple additions

"Instant" Cashback is now available. However, to quote "Instant cashback will be eligible for some, but not all users." Its unknown what the criteria is to be "eligible". I would not suggest you make a purchase unless you dont mind waiting.

Ebay/Paypal Coupons WILL stack with this. The amount is deducted off the full auction value. IE 10% Coupon applied to $100 purchase will save you $10. If the Cashback percent is 25% you will still get $25 additional back for a total savings of $35. Usually the Ebay/Paypal coupons have a maximum savings of $100 for a maximum total of $300 saved on any single purchase. This also stacks with other promotions run by Bigcrumb/ebates where you can earn some more money back based on an items selling fees.

I did this a couple of days ago and I got 30% transferred to my paypal account almost immediately after the ebay transaction was completed. That was $50 in my pocket.

I'm curious. I'm in London at the moment but obviously live stateside. I was wondering if there was a way for me to search using Live and have the ebay link pulled up? For some odd reason when I search for anything I never get the mentioned ebay link...
Has anyone not received the ebay message for cashback? I ordered something yesterday
and ebay still hasn't sent me a cashback message.
This has happened to me twice. I got no ebay message, but the cashback still showed up on my live cashback account 2 days later. Just wait a little while, sometimes there is a day or two delay.

Use this link: http://www.live.com/?scope=web&mkt=en-US

It works for me while I'm in China for the week.

Showing 25% right now.
I assume cashback only covers the price of the product, does not include shipping...
Correct doesnt include shipping.
Go back to 30%, damn you. This is an economic crisis, and I want to help out by buying a TV!
Seriously...I'm a little more demanding than you though. I want 35% somehow. Either 25% + 10% coupon. Or a straight 35%. I need a new PC monitor/stealth TV.

Damn, was 30% /w Instant Cashback 2 days ago, 30% with normal 60-day pending time yesterday, 25% this morning/afternoon (actually 2 hours ago), and now it is 20%. If you guys want something on eBay, you better get it before this deal gets any worse.

damn there was an ebay 10% coupon :wall: fuck

bought a lcd monitor the other day with 30% cashback (60 days)

now I hear it drops to 25% or even 20%

well all us cheapasses I guess should be slightly gratefully for some kind of cashback...

I'm still able to get 25% for now. Do a live search for 'iPod'; I got two cashback links of the three in the box--the top one was eBay with 20%, the third link was to somebody's eBay storefront for 25%. By clicking that one, I can search all of eBay from there, and it's showing 25%
Nope. No more buying from ebay BIN now.
What do you mean? A poster told me earlier (on page 91) that the % changes from time to time.

If you look at it squarely, them dropping the % is just a way to rush you into buying something NOW. Simply wait for the percentage to go back up again.

Check out this link and you'll see that when the program premiered earlier this year, the discount was as deep as 35%:

http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/838081/

What the earlier poster said is correct. Look at the link. The % will go back up and down and back up again. It's bait. Simply bid your time. That's what I'm going to do.

Think about it, it's too far away from X-Mas for the best deals to be available yet....

Going from the earlier poster who told me to bide my time, thanks. That's exactly what I'm going to do.

The 35% only lasted a day before it was nuked. I dont think you'll see higher than 30% again and im even surprised it went that high recently. Could even be awhile before that comes back, if at all. Initially this thing went from 35%, 20%, 25%, 15%, all the way down to 8% which lasted for a month.

Point is, i wouldnt suggest you get greedy. You might kick yourself for it later. Of course if you have purchases that you want but can go without, then it doesnt matter.

Yeah, I'd pretty much given up all hope of seeing above 25% for a long long time. I snagged my PS3 with the 35% and we've never seen it since. I've also never received a coupon, so that's pretty annoying.

I just spent the last two days researching laptops, and then when I go to order I find MS yanked the rug out from under me. :bomb: I went ahead and took the %25 while the gettin' was good, but I lost $32. I assumed we were going to get at least a week of %30, but maybe it's on it's way out. I think I'm done shopping in any case, I've already spent a ton of money with this deal.
I got the 25% to show back up with the iPod search. It's 20% for normal Ebay, but this one gives you 25% for ebay stores.

Should I take the plunge?!

I know have 60 minutes and I found some other Ebay codes:

http://www.retailmenot.com/view/ebay.com

Lemme know your honest opinion. I want that 360 elite!
The ebay codes probably won't work...just a heads up.
The ebay codes probably won't work...just a heads up.
yeah, those codes seem unreliable.

do you guys honestly think the microsoft deal will get any sweeter?

i still have 25% up on my ebay window and it's valid. I can rattle off a few 3ds max and maya books from buy.com's store as well. just wondering if this is the end when there's still so much more month left???

To be fair, the November 10% off code that wasn't in my messages/email worked for me when everyone said it wouldn't...just 'sayin.'

Grrr. Snafu!

The buy.com store on Ebay is allowing me 25% off the Xbox 360 elite, but the store *doesn't* use Ebay Checkout, which means I can't use the Ebay coupons for more off!

Might have to go another route.... grrrr!

Eventually the Ebay percentage will have to drop down to a reasonable Ebates/Fat Wallet type percentage, like only 3-4%, right? There's no way they can keep up these losses for the sake of promoting live.com. Does anyone here still use Google Checkout without the discounts?

Do some searching and you'll find Ebay has a workaround for using live cashback specifically with the buy.com store.

Apparently, you can still get the 25% cashback to show up if you search for an item that has that much. It works for me by searching Live.com for "Wii Fit", clicking on the second link with 25% cashback, then doing a general search on ebay.

For the ebay/paypal coupons, how do those work? Is it a combined cashback + 10%, or is it applied before or after cashback is taken into account?

Hmmm. Haven't found anything yet....

What's it consist off? The coupons for Buy.com aren't as good as Ebay. Just $10 off at most.

I'm looking for this workaround now. I have Ebay coupons I want to try to maximize my savings. I won't go to sleep tonight until I get it right! :)

For instance, at the buy.com store, i search for xbox 360 elite bundle new and the display says:
Qualifies for coupons and MS Live Search cashback

I'm guessing that means I'm in the clear, but unsure...

I finally purchased my Xbox 360 Elite Bundle on ebay through the buy.com store at 25% off thanks to searching for "ipod" at live.com.

I was shown that I would receive $99.00 off of the purchase price, bring my total from $398.99 to $299.24.

The rules say you must purhcase the eligible item using BuyItNow and pay with PayPal within 60 minutes of starting the Microsoft cashback session.

It's been more than 2 hours since I commited to buying the item, but still haven't paid for it (I don't expect 70 people to buy a 360 elite to push me out of the running).

I wondering now, though, if, because I didn't pay within 60 mins, if it means I've lost the 25%. From what I can tell, when I log back in, it still shows that I must pay with PayPal to get the cashback. I don't see anything regarding an expiry.

Has anyone bought within 60 mins, but paid the following day through PayPal and not been penalized?

I'm only delaying because I'm having a hard time getting these Ebay codes to work in PayPal checkout, and I'd like to have that extra discount.

Any more ebay codes that work? I just tried a buy.com code for $10 off a $200 or more purchase and it worked. My total was brought down to $388.99 (before the cashback offer). The ony thing now though is that my Xbox is in a cart at the official buy.com website, which is how the coupon was applied. The coupon shows as the second item in the cart, along with the Xbox bundle.

Here is the -$10 code page:
http://www.buy.com/retail/coupon.asp?prid=82955137

Here is the -5% code page:
http://www.buy.com/retail/coupon.asp?prid=84773074

With the 5% code (up to $15 dollars), my total comes down to $383.99, which compensates for missing out on the 30% cashback, minus $4.

I'm not going to pay yet, because I'm not sure how this will play out. I'm not sure if paying through Buy.com's website will offset the Microsoft cashback feature.

Any ideas?

no, you'll be fine. You have 60 minutes to commit to buy something, but 30 days to pay for it. Keep in mind though, that the 60 day countdown wont begin until you pay for the item.

Good. I was hoping that was the case. It seems to be to my advantage to actually checkout at buy.com after all. The extra $15 saved from Buy.com's code couldn't be gotten using Ebay's codes.
Thanks for the ipod search tip. I got 25% instant cash back deposited in my paypal account.
Instant! I notice in the conditions that Microsoft/Paypal does say it's at their discretion to have instant cash back to some buyers. Looks like you made the cut.

Besides "ipod", "wii fit" also works. ;)

I dont get how you guys are getting 25%.

And are you getting it from Ebay? Because I dont see Ebay anywhere on the list of stores.

Don't click on the cashback tab when you go to live.com (at the top tabbed/menu area of the web page)n; just go to live.com and enter into the search engine (in the middle of the page) what you're looking for (example nintendo ds) - you will get returns (like a normal search engine) except the items listed at the top will usually be cashback sponsored links - ebay always comes up here. Click on the cashback link next to it (looks like a green price tag) and it will take you to ebay showing you the eligible BIN items.

go to live.com

you're right -- "ipod" no longer works.

instead use "wii fit" it just worked for me

you'll see 25% for ebay stores hotspot

simply click the link to arrive in ebay, then go find item you want

the 25% banner will be atop your page and will appear at checkout saying how much you've saved

The November code is the exception to the rule, but it already expired. Ebay codes are tied to the accounts that received them. The November code is the only one ebay has made universal since the old days (1999, I think was the last one - probably because they didn't have the ability then). ;)

only purchase #5 and my recent purchase #6 gave me instant cash back. so i dont know exactly how that works.

If you clickthru live.com to target's website, you should get 20% cashback...not sure how long this will be active. You will get a pop up box with 20% listed and an email field/ capatcha. The discount will show in your cart after you login.

You're preaching to the choir, I'm just saying that it's worth the extra couple minutes to try a code sometimes instead of writing it off completely. Whose to say there won't be more exceptions like the november code? That code was also supposed to be tied to accounts, but sometimes worked for folks. I know I had to try it 3 times on the same purchase before it'd work.

Edit:...and that purchase was to get 40% off a PS3!!!
